It was a great experience and the fries and hamburger were delicious. I recommend this place. They have a nice spacious seating area and on the other side they have a bar sporty area when you enter the place. The place has a mixture of Rustic museum, country, and fisherman type of cavern style.
Decided to take a ride out east and found this cool place for a quick bite. There chili was amazing, chips and some fresh sour cream. My boyfriend had the New England clam chowder. Everything was fresh hot and tasty. Nicole our server was friendly and told us to make sure we visited the lighthouse for the holiday. Great place if you're in town
This is one of the only places we could find in town that was open during this time of the season. When you walk in it’s a small bar and to the right they have a dinning area. Very cool pub like vibes. Ali took great care of us. She was very nice and attentive. The food was very yummy. The clam chowder was a nice change to what my normal liking is. I was impressed with it. The French fries and sweet potato fries were some of the best I’ve ever had in any restaurant. The crab cakes were nicely made not overdone with breading. We had chicken fingers and fish and chips. I suggest giving the fried food here a try. It’s very good.
I was surprised by the negative comments for the food, as we really enjoyed what we ordered. The steamed mussels are super tasteful, the fish tacos and fish and chips are great as well. The prices are at first expensive but we had a great amount of food. The service was also very great.
The energy in the place was simply amazing, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home. The food at this restaurant is truly impressive. While I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, I did find the burger to be a tad salty. However, its delicious flavor more than made up for it, and it was still a delight to savor. Chowder was so delicious 😋. One of the standout features of this establishment is the fantastic staff. The people who work here are incredibly friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. They go above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels welcomed and well taken care of.
We always get a lobster when we come to Shagwongs, a favourite indulgent treat when visiting Montauk. Its a no fuss restaurant and bar, the service is always friendly and never a long wait for anything. A huge variety on the menu but no quality or flavour is sacrificed for the range of choice. Wine tasted a little old this time, but I guess its not a place you come to for the wine! Highly recommend this place for a walk in dinner.
We’ve been dining at Sagwong for about 3 decades and had many meals here. Food was nothing special, but we were pleasantly surprised by great food tonight. Fluke franchise came with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Fish was so fresh and veggie was tasty. My husbands fishwich was great! With blackened fresh catch, it was so delicious! Service and ambience is just ok but it’s a popular local spot that stays open year round. If you choose right items to order, you will have a great meal. Price is reasonable and staff are efficient.
I was pleasantly surprised with this place. We had a long day hiking the trails and stopped in for lunch. The hostess/waitress had her work cut out for her. I ordered the clam chowder and husband got the cheeseburger and fries. The chowder had a creamy flavor and big chunks of potato and clam. The cheeseburger was cooked really well and had a thick patty. The cheddar cheese is a nice touch. They didn’t have French’s mustard so hubby ate it dry. Overall it hit the spot.
My recent visit to the restaurant left me with a rather average impression. The food was quite bland and the slow service did not enhance the dining experience. I also found the menu to be overpriced for what was served. While the ambiance was pleasant, the overall meal fell short of expectations.
A local restaurant and bar with a cool atmosphere. After reading numerous fluctuating reviews, I've decided to go safe for my 1st meal in Montauk. * Clam chowder: good but nth special. * Parmesan chicken wings: salty but good for price. * Fish Taco: Not bad, definitely tastes fishy, but worthy to try * Shagowong signature burger, medium : beef patty was dry. Wanted medium rare but couldn't order it due to some bad reviews. Again, it has cool near ocean vibes with huge fish decorations, and the servers were kind as well.
My husband and I came in with my task-trained service animal (I have Tourette’s syndrome). We didn’t know that the owner was not keen on animals. The gentleman who greeted us was quite reluctant to seat us and said that the owner, Jason does not permit animals inside. I explained that, per the ADA law, service animals cannot be denied. It was clear that the host was really grappling with letting us stay and I tried not to be a “Karen” about it. After some consternation, we were sat in a corner and my service dog curled up quietly under the table, where she stayed for the next 90min. Initially we waited to get a drink order but a young woman finally came by and was lovely and cheerful. She offered my service dog a cup of water. I ordered a Guinness, my husband ordered an IPA. We waited a little bit and a very handsome and kind young man delivered our drinks (I now know that is Eoghan.) he asked if we were ready and we were not. The young woman came by a bit later and we ordered a dozen raw oysters, the prime rib sandwich and a cheese burger medium rare. I should have specified to have the oysters come first. When the food runner brought out the oysters and the prime rib sandwich he did not mention at all that my burger was on the way. He just sort of drop the two items and then walked away. The first oyster I went to enjoy was just a shell no oyster in it so I did a quick inventory and learned that three of the twelve oysters were just a shell. Eoghan was able to get us the missing oysters replaced quickly. But no luck with the burger I was waiting for. And then, finally it arrived! It looked so pretty! I got the zucchini fries and they were so delicious. Sadly, my medium rare burger was legit well done. It was extra disappointing because the cheese looked so good the bacon was crispy and the lettuce/tomato was super fresh! I had about 2 bites only. I decided to drown my sorrows and when I next saw Eoghan I got a Jameson neat. It’s a $17 glass of whiskey. It helped ease my pain, lol. The busser/food runner asked if I would like a box for the cheeseburger and I said no thank you, I could not eat it because it was way overcooked. He just smiled. I was hoping he would ask if I wanted to see manager or have it redone but I did not bring it up. We got the check from Eoghan who delivered it with speed and alacrity. We were charged twice for the oysters but it was promptly removed from the bill. Then the check just sat on the table with our credit card on top. I saw FOH staff walk by and look at it and just ignore it. Finally someone grabbed it. It was $176. We gave Eoghan $40 cash tip.
less than friendly service. Refused to turn on the college game to the big screen when asked. I asked to replace a dirty wine glass - got an attitude. Been coming to Montauk for years but will skip this place.
Have loved this place for years but today was sadly our last visit. The waiter was working hard but he was the only one handling 6+ tables so service was lackluster. The food took quite a while to come out and still managed to be lukewarm. The wings were dry despite being tossed in sauce. The icing on the cake was having to kill a cockroach that was walking on the wall next to us. Update to respond to the very kind owner: This review was left after we paid our check in full. Have the day you deserve ❤️
We had dinner yesterday at Shagwong, and we were very disappointed with the service, the food, and how we were charged. We ordered two lobsters, and the menu listed each at $34. However, we were charged $65 each — $130 total — which is almost double the listed price. They also added an automatic 20% gratuity, even though the menu stated it would only be applied to groups of 6 or more. We were only 5 people, so this charge was not correct, and it feels like they simply took extra money from us. On top of that, two of our friends became very sick after eating the lobster.
Their French fries are crispy and overdone. Not like soft chunky cut fries offered at many burger joints. Their prices are very affordable which makes it a budget friendly alternative to anyone preferring not to throw away an obscene amount of money for grub. But the thing I disliked most was the very unkept and neglected area outdoors which has atrocious fake grass and moldy cushions on the benches. The fake plants are just awful. Not classy. Kind of a last resort for guests looking to dine locally. Just about anywhere else is better. Definitely go elsewhere if the budget is not an issue. The outside seating area is a bad example of hospitality. Seriously in need of upgrades. Also, there were zero napkins on the dining tables which is really strange and unheard of. This place must be among the worst spots in NY state. Very low quality atmosphere, not aesthetically appealing at all. Avoid.
