Excellent place to stop for good food and drinks. It's a Slow Food-certified kocale. The owner and his sister, besides being friendly, are very knowledgeable about local products and wines. They also gave us excellent advice on where to buy sparkling wines from the Oltre Po Pavese area. I recommend trying the risotto and cheeses. Fair prices.
Besides being one of the few places open for lunch on Mondays, this very pleasant restaurant stands out for its excellent cuisine, showcasing local products from the Oltrepò and Lomellina regions, and a good selection of local wines. When I went, they also offered a very affordable lunch menu with several options (though I didn't take advantage of it, preferring instead to order dishes à la carte, which weren't included). Very good value. Recommended.
A true Osteria...a gem I discovered by chance while passing by. The menu is delicious and very interesting, the service impeccable, and the service is passionate. I ordered an appetizer, main course, and dessert, but I had a hard time choosing. Both the à la carte and lunch menus were packed with interesting dishes. A great selection of ingredients, raw materials, and wines. Highly recommended!
An exquisite experience in every way. We ordered two cheese boards and two charcuterie boards to share: a truly curated selection, featuring quality ingredients and interesting pairings. Next, we split our time between maltagliati with farmyard ragù, ricotta-stuffed zucchini flowers (delicate and well-balanced), a tender and flavorful sliced beef steak, and a risotto. The service was excellent: we were greeted by a waiter—who we believe was also the owner—who was extremely kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. He carefully explained each dish, conveying a true passion for his work. Highly recommended: warm atmosphere, authentic yet refined cuisine, and a warm welcome that makes all the difference.
A welcoming restaurant is like a second home. The warm and inviting atmosphere immediately puts you at ease. The delicious aromas wafting from the kitchen whet your appetite. Each dish is prepared with care and passion, a true pleasure for the palate. Returning to a place like this is always a wonderful experience.
I returned to this restaurant because I had fond memories of the service and food. I can confirm the quality of the dishes and the extreme kindness of the family who runs the restaurant. The wine list is good, both local and international. There are numerous digestives and liqueurs, all very good. The off-menu dishes were the porcini mushroom salad and the fried porcini mushrooms, both incredibly fragrant and authentically Italian. The tiramisu was noteworthy, truly delicious. Regarding the vitello tonnato, I would have liked a little more sauce, but that's a matter of personal preference. The eggplant parmigianina was excellent, and the borage gnocchi were delicious. Overall, a very positive review. The food, wines, and service are consistently good.
In the center of the small village of Torrazza Coste, this osteria is featured in numerous food and wine guides, so I decided, intrigued, to try it. As soon as you enter, you're immersed in the typical atmosphere of an old tavern from the early 20th century, with period paintings and images. But let's get to the highlight: The menu fully met my expectations! For starters, I had the green tagliolini with black-eyed peas and salami paste from "il Tizzo," a company a few hundred meters from the osteria. A very balanced dish, only to my taste, slightly under-creamed, but that's just a small detail. Then a duck breast with a Slow Food Presidium chinotto di Savona and mustard sauce. Truly excellent, both in flavor and cooking. For dessert, a tiramisu with homemade ladyfingers and Angelo Carena's mascarpone. Amazing! Possibly the best tiramisu I've ever had. The friendly service makes this restaurant a must-visit if you're in the area, and I'll definitely be back to try other dishes.
A very rustic location, filled with period photographs, where you can savor the true history of this area. The menu is rich in local ingredients and crafted with a modern twist, both in the plating and the flavor combinations. From this perspective, I was pleasantly surprised, as the cuisine's style is very close to fine dining, rather than what you'd expect from a traditional osteria. For my dinner, I chose the pumpkin risotto, sheep's milk San Carlone, and licorice drops as my first course. For my second course, I chose the bell pepper flan, while for dessert, I opted for the two-chocolate mordido with lemon custard. Everything was truly visually captivating, delicious on the palate, and, above all, beautifully crafted in its balance of flavors. The service was friendly and attentive. The price was in line with the menu and perfectly reflects the quality of the ingredients.
Torrazza Coste, a village in the Oltrepò Pavese that's probably little-known to most, hides a very interesting Osteria in its central square, serving traditional cuisine. The dining room, on the first floor of what from the entrance almost looks like a bar, is warm, welcoming, and sheltered from street noise. It's very relaxing. The attentive and friendly staff offers carefully prepared local dishes, closer to a fine restaurant than a true osteria, but still with the flavor of traditional dishes. It all began with a delightful and tasty amuse bouche while we waited for our order. The cured meats, both classic Oltrepò ones and pure goose ones, were incredibly delicious and of amazing quality—not by me, but by my companion, a native of the area and an expert in the local produce. They were enjoyed accompanied by an inviting basket of different types of bread. The first courses were very well-prepared and tasty, both the local ravioli and the spaghetti with fava beans and pecorino cheese. After the first courses, I wanted to try a second course, but honestly, I was already full. So I let myself be tempted by a delicious and well-structured dessert: a shortcrust pastry tart with pastry cream and delicious chocolate shavings. We'll honestly have to return to try the other dishes, which really piqued our interest. The wine list is well-stocked, with choices that allow for a good wine for any budget, all with a focus on local producers. I highly recommend it. I'd highly recommend making a reservation.
We came here for dinner: the place is unfussy, the menu thoughtfully curated, with a wealth of choices that showcase the local area, using quality ingredients to produce truly delicious dishes. Even the bread is outstanding. The tartare (which I didn't take a photo of) is delicious, as are the ravioli. The staff is extremely kind and attentive. The owner has put together a beautiful wine list featuring only bottles from the Oltrepò region and offers expert advice. The wine selection by the glass is also excellent. The prices are fair considering the offerings.
Love this little gem for either a quick but discerning bite on regular days or going the whole hog on special occasions. The food is superlative. The wine list doesn't leave much to be desired. Everything sourced locally including most wines. Been several times and never been disappointed.
Randomly stopped here as a pitstop on a long drive and couldn't be happier with the food, wine and service. The €11 set menu is a steal and everything was so delicious and the service was exceptional! Highly recommended
Abbiamo pranzato di domenica in questo ristorante molto "easy" ma gradevole. Non bisogna farsi ingannare dal termine "osteria": i piatti, tutt'altro che semplici, sono preparati con maestria e ingred…
If you're on the border between Piedmont and Lombardy and looking for an authentic culinary experience, this restaurant is a must-visit. The atmosphere is immediately captivating: the restaurant, furnished with a rustic yet refined style, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere, ideal for a special evening. The details, from dark wood to exposed brick, tell a story of tradition and love for the local area. The real highlight is undoubtedly the dishes. Each course is a celebration of cuisine, with bold flavors and top-quality ingredients. I enjoyed an excellent risotto with herbs and a superb veal with tuna sauce. The staff, while professional and attentive to every detail of the service, is somewhat reserved, maintaining a formal approach that can sometimes seem a little cold. However, this in no way detracts from the experience. Furthermore, it's a real pleasure to discover that many of the products used in the kitchen are available for purchase, allowing you to take home a piece of this culinary excellence. This restaurant is a celebration of taste, a place where local tradition is honored and served with mastery.
The location is fairly clean, with classic furnishings and elegant wood accents. The staff is friendly and accommodating to various requests, the menu is reasonably priced, and the quality of the food is slightly above average for the area. We sometimes had trouble finding a waiter with enough eyes to call them, and the bathroom was dirty (but this is also due to some rude customers). All in all, it was pleasant, and I will definitely return.
