The star of the show here is the pies, and they are AMAZING! You can't go wrong with any flavor. Just order them. I got the Lamb & green onion and they broke my mouth. The top and bottom are seared enough to give it some texture and hold it together while you're holding it. Trust me--it's necessary because of how much literal soup that comes out of it, and every drop is delicious! That being said, have a good amount of napkins readily available 'cause you'll need them. The inside was a mouth singing trip to flavor city, and worth it! I also got the Lamb & green onion dumplings, and they were amazing as well. The insides were also swimming in their own soup as the pies surrounded by a soft wrapper which could barely contain itself. 2nd verse same taste as the first, but different delivery this time. In this application, they were marinating in a container of the chili oil they supplied, but not without tasting one on its own first. Unfortunately, I carefully ate it in the car due to Covid reasons. I chased the dumplings down with the pool of it's own soup created by the dumplings I mercilessly devoured. I would've ordered more, but the day was early. I had to save room for a few more places. There's not question that I'm going here again the next time I'm in the area albeit with more room reserved for more orders. :D
Very delicious handmade juicy meat pies. Also the frozen dumplings are great to take home. I recommend to everyone to try this place. The lamb and squash meat pie is great.
Delicious authentic Beijing food even years from when we first started coming here. Fun experience for my kids and lovely interaction with the staff.
Best Chinese meat pies u have to try. Make sure y ask them to cook it on the well-done side, otherwise it's always undercooked. We love the lamb meat and beef choices better than pork. VERY inexpensive but super delicious. 4 small pies for less than $10
This place was so good. Honestly worth the drive from echo park. Affordable prices, and delicious authentic food. We got the house special buns, lamb and green onion buns, and veggie + mushroom buns. The house special was definitely the favorite, but all were amazing. Can’t wait to go back.
Excellent! Leek and pork is just like my mother use to make. Nice and juicy. One order is perfect for two. It's very filling. Also ordered green onion cake. Crispy filled with green onions and a little salt. Perfect balance. Unlike other resturants that are bland and in need of salt. Definitely recommend it.
Not sure if there are new owners (name change), but quality is the same. Our order took a while, probably because everything was made fresh. 京东肉饼 was made to order and came out piping hot.
The meat pies are to die for – cooked to order, with sizzling hot soup inside, and a variety of meats and vegetables to choose from. Everything else, like the dumplings, is good but not as exceptional as the meat pies (and can be more commonly found elsewhere). The staff are friendly and efficient. The location is simple: a counter for ordering and tables to sit at. There is a parking lot, but it can get packed during lunchtime. My personal favorites are the lamb with green onions or cilantro. When my friends and I go, we usually get an assortment of lamb, pork, and beef meat pies, which you can’t go wrong with.
Love the meat pies here. All the standard Beijing noodles that you can think of, dumpling, wontons and meat pie galore. Definitely bring a friend as you'll want to order a few orders of the meat pie, noodles and the green onion pancakes. Tight parking lot so you may want to park on the street.
My god! Where do I start? Everything was amazing 👏 🙌 the best food me and my family had in LA! The pork? Shrimp, green onion meat pie 10/10 the dumplings 10/10! And we got a pork Pancake 😱 amazing food! This place should have a 5 star rating, we almost didn't try it but thank the lord we did!!
Call in your order or be prepared to wait 30 minutes cause they are made to order but worth it! The texture of the bread was crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. You also have to suck the juice out from the first bite or it will squirt! I saw a video on YouTube of them making this in China and had to find a spot that makes it. I ordered the beef with green onion and pork with leak and they are delicious! The amount of meat in there was perfect and you can air fry it after storing it in the fridge and eat it with eggs and coffee for breakfast!
We are in town from Texas . The person that helped me I’m going to say was probably the owner he was absolutely amazing and I gotta say these are the best Pies and dumplings I have had in a long time . Found my new spot next time I come . Super Juicy and amazing flavor
My first time here. Just tried their meat pies. So so yummy! Owners are super super nice. It's a small restaurant and felt so family friendly. You can tell the owner loves kids and greets them with a huge smile. Was fun eating their pan fried dumplings as you break them apart from each other. Definitely recommending to all my friends! UPDATE: Went back to eat again. I don't want to take away their five stars just because their food was tasty. We made the mistake of ordering their steamed dumplings instead of the pan fried. Stick with the pan fried. Their steamed dumplings weren't cooked all the way through (still raw on the inside). Also, we found a bug that was fried alongside the meat pies. Needless to say, not going back. Although it was tasty when we went the first time.
Superb food. Seems to be a favorite from the elders of the area. It filled up quickly at lunch. Owner takes pride and it shows as he greets each table.
This place has the most delicious meat pies. We get the lamb & green onions every time and they are so juicy and delicious. Highly recommend!
This is a must go to place. The meat pies are like giant pan fried xiao long bao: juicy and soupy and savory on the inside, crispy on the outside. Don't try to eat these while driving! You'll make a mess. I had (and recommend) the lamb and cilantro, and the beef with green onion. The pies must be hand made when you order; the cilantro inside of mine was still crisp, while the meat was cooked through. Service was quick and friendly, and the interior was inviting and clean. They also sell other items, like popular bottled green tea.
What a gem this place is! Absolutely delicious meat pies, dumplings and so much more. Don't let the unimpressive interior and decoration fool you. The focus here is the taste of the food. The pie servings are huge and one order could easily serve two people.
My first impression walking in was how amazing the staff is! The guy running the front of house had a great personality definitely a people person. Now to the food! This place is known for their pies aka fried pork buns aka fried soup dumplings. These were the best pork pies we have had so far in the LA area. They are made fresh to order so be patient they are worth the wait! If you are ever coming to the LA area I recommend the pork and green onion pie. Just be careful when taking that first bite like I said they are like a soup dumpling.
Delicious!! Small little spot. Just a few tables. The pork pancakes were so good. Juicy in the middle, crispy on the outside. The cucumbers were sour and refreshing!! The pork, shrimp and leek dumplings crispy style were so good. My favorite was the wonton soup. So delicious!!
Love their northern Chinese pies with different kinds of delicious stuffings with beef, lamb, or pork. The owner is super friendly. It’s definitely worth the 20 minutes wait! They also have frozen dumplings that you can cook at home, $30 for 50 pieces, looks like a pretty good deal!
Amazing authentic Chinese location with some good wholesome food. Stopped by with some friends and we ordered some meat pies, fried meat dumplings, scallion pancakes and soup dumplings. Food here is delicious and it comes out piping hot. Seasoning and added spices are on point. This is a hole in the wall, but I loved how delicious everything was
They changed owners a year ago and are now called JinHai Pie House Handmade Kitchen. The new boss said he started making meat pies and the like since he was 14, he is in his 60's now. The pies were so good, even better than before in my humble opinion! A very mom and pop sort of place. Not fancy looking but the food is delicious! Come and keep them in business! Their meat pies, pancakes and dumplings are to die for!
Absolutely delicious mom and pop shop for meat pies, dumplings, and pancakes. The beef/green onion pancake was deliciously crispy and was amazing on its own and yet somehow managed to be overshadowed by the lamb/green onion meat pie. The meat pie was deliciously flavorful and juicy. The owners didn't speak any English and it was no problem at all, we were able to communicate just fine. Can't wait to come back.
This place is a must for me every time I’m back in LA. I dream about their lamb pies and wake up with a drool spot. The lamb pie order comes with 4, and they are fresh out of the kitchen every time. They make their own pies here and you can tell it’s authentic af. Hold the pie upright inside a bowl, take a tiny nibble of the wrapper to let the hot steam out. And slowly start slurping the soup out of the pie. It’s amazing. It’s juicy. It’s flavorful. It’s everything you need to feel like you’re in lamb heaven. It’s protein heavy so it’s also the perfect post workout meal. It’s filling. I also sometimes get the potstickers and .. I mean.. just look at it. Cooked to perfection and juicy. The appetizer we always love getting is the tripe. It comes with cilantro and has a numbing spice to it. It’s perfectly salted. It’s crunchy. I’m drooling just writing this review. Don’t worry about the atmosphere or the waitstaff manners - it’s all part of the Asian experience. We don’t waste time on making you feel nice, we just care about good food and getting you out of there to serve the next customer.

The meat pies are flaky and soup-filled—eat carefully! Green onion pancakes are also solid. It’s a cozy room with simple service and quick turnover. Great spot when you want something comforting and a little different. Cash or card both fine on my last visit.

Amazing lamb and beef pie dumplings! Be aware there are juices from the meat nestled inside and it's hot as hell! Really good food for not too much money. The atmosphere is very traditional asian. They are worried about logistics rather than social niceties. This is well worth the venture!
Good homestyle cooking. The restaurant dining area is bright and clean, but it gets filled up quick. The parking is bad, but that is just the way the shopping plaza was designed. I had the beef noodle, the pie, and dumplings. Although the broth and overall flavor we're good, the noodles themselves were rubbery. The pie was good, it's kinda like a calzone minus the cheese, and throw in a bunch of leeks. The dumplings were good overall, with a crispy bottom. I would come here again.
The Beijing noodles were delicious. The lamb pie was so juicy and tasty. The cold tofu appetizer was really good as well. Definitely will be heading back to try the other pies. Place was clean, and service was quick.
The food is fantastic. The green onion pancake reminded me of street food in Hong Kong. They run a very lean crew, most of them are courteous except one. The one usually in ponytail is just not very nice. If you don't mind "rude" waitress the food is good.
One of my favorite things to eat in L.A. is here: Pumpkin with Pork & Shrimp Dumpling, pan-fried... the dumplings lightly stuck together with a crunchy bird's nest-like thin crispy batter. Don't let the words Pie House fool you... This small formica table bare-bones restaurant is not the Beijing version of Marie Calendars... there's nothing dutch-apple about this place. The menu is divided into sections: Pies, Pancakes, Dumplings, Soup, Appetizers, Noodles&Wontons. The "pies" are hockey puck sized dumplings, pan fried on the sides, crammed with your choice of fillings: Summer Squash & Lamb, Fennel & Pork to name just a few favorites. The "pancake"s are not of the Grand Slam Denny's variety... but flat pan-fried crisped dough (a slightly thicker flakier distant cousin to a flour tortilla) filled with your choice of Lamb or Pork or Beef with Green Onion. And the dumplings... filled with delicious combinations like Leeks with Pork & Shrimp, Basil Eggplant & Pork... and the before mentioned mind blowing Pumpkin with Pork & Shrimp... should not be missed. Start things off with an appetizer plate of Cold Cucumber with Garlic and you will be happy that you're not in a Baker's Square eating a slice of Corporate pie... you're eating some good pie, though... Beijing Style.
We came here for lunch on a Friday, base on recommendation from a nephew. The restaurant is in a typical strip mall, inside not too big with about 8 tables. Their specialty is Beijing style meat pies, so we ordered 3 types: summer squash and lamb, leek and pork, both of which comes in round forms (4 per order), and lastly the Homeland meat cake. The meat cake came out first, and basically was two thin layers of breading with a layer of seasoned pork. Very tasty! The round pies were also full of flavor and juicy. All were freshly made and came right out of the fryer. For our picky son we ordered xiao long bao, and he seemed to enjoy it. The only thing that detracted from the food experience was that the interior was grimy, paint chipping in the walls. Service was okay and not better or worse than a typical Chinese restaurant. 4 stars for the food, maybe next time will carry out instead.
Authentic Chinese spot with piping hot meat pies. It’s called Jin Hai now. Came here with a couple of friends for dinner on a Thursday evening around 7pm, and were seated immediately. They seem to speak Mandarin only, but they were still friendly. The menu is in English. Free parking is available in the lot. Credit cards are accepted. Indoor dining only (no outdoor dining available). We got an order of lamb pies (4), pork and shrimp wonton soup, and beef roll. The lamb pies were very tasty and had a lot of juice (like a xiao long bao). The beef roll was a bit cold, but there was a good amount of meat and was very filling. The wonton soup also had a generous amount of wontons and were could be split among 2-3 people. The owner/waiter was really nice and brought us hot tea.
Looks like the restaurant changed hands yet again. It is back to being called Beijing Pie House. We arrived at 10:45 on a Sunday morning but they appear to open so we went ahead and ordered a pork pie. Unfortunately because we were the first order of the day, we didn’t receive our food until about 11:25. Tip 1: call ahead. We also didn’t realize that instead of one large pie (餡餅), you actually get 4 regular sized ones. Had I known before hand, I definitely would have asked if it would be possible to order sets of different flavors as the pricing is all the same. Despite that, the 餡餅 is quite good in flavor and not too sweet as other reviews have mentioned. Would visit again if I’m in the area.
Came here because of Mark Weins on Migrationology on YouTube. It was better than average. The pies came out HOT. He fried dumplings also good. We ordered two juicy dumplings, which were excellent as well. The beef noodle soup here is BLAND. I would not get that again. Just stick to the pies and dumplings.
Casual dining with fried dumplings and seafood big pies that are very good. Sea weed. A seaweed salad is also very good. This restaurant also sells uncooked dumplings abd ravioli (饺子和馄饨) .

This small eatery was recommended by a family member and received excellent Yelp reviews. My high expectations were not met, though it wasn't bad. Food quality was average (ordered dumplings and meat cakes). The staff tried hard, but (for me) there was no connection in quality from what I ate in Beijing and this place
Great and delicious food, but not a very welcoming atmosphere to people who dont live in the area or speak any of the languages. That being said, its a great spot to grab a bite to eat if Mama Lu's Dumpling House is too crowded as long as you're okay with being openly stared at by some of the patrons and employees. The lamb and green onion pie is a must try on the menu!
We have a lot of love hate relationships with this place. We have been here 4 times in the last several months and we probably won't be back for awhile. Their meat pies are top notch, probably one of the best in Los Angeles. Noodle dishes are average. Side dishes are forgettable. Everything else in this restaurant needs improvement. Zero service, long prep time, and not-so-clean dinning environment. In our last visit, we arrived at 1:20pm. There were 4 other groups of people are eating in there already. We knew what we want so we placed our order right away. At 2:25pm, not even one dish was served. We talked to the owner and he said our order was coming next. 2:40pm, nothing came. Feel bad for the small business, but it was ridiculous that they weren't able to prep not even one item. So we left.
The food is good but the service is HORRIBLE. I almost got angry because one of the waitress was with such an attitude that I didn’t have a good time. She looks very unhappy and raised her voice multiple times when I ask her questions about the menu. The pancake took half an hour to come out. Have to say the food is tasty and not bad but if you are looking for something with a good experience and all, don’t come here. 真给中国人丢脸 态度差死了 谁欠你钱啊 还是你欠钱还不上啊 以后**会不会好好说话
I would give this restaurant a low rating because 1. It’s super pricy compared to some similar restaurant and 2. Their waitress or the owner just sat in front of us while we were eating made it very very awkward. More importantly the taste of their food is very very mediocre and there’s nothing making their food stand out among others. I would NOT compare here again.
They don't speak /understand English at all. They made mistake taking our order, and when we asked them to make our collect order, they told me "but you already ate it"... Well, yeah, we won't realize it unless we cut the pie and look what's inside. Service was awful, they won't come take our order, no refill. When we were ready to pay, we wanted to use gift card so we asked them to charge on gift card first, then pay in cash whatever the rest of the amount. They couldn't understand and after arguing, they said "no, we do our way". Very rude workers from start to finish. NEVER AGAIN. and was the food amazing? no.
