So pleased with the service and food at La Petite Grocery! In our visit to New Orleans the best food has been either in the Garden District, Touro or East River (ish) neighborhoods. La Petrie Grocery was innovative and thoughtful in their food selection and preparations, a refreshing change form the staunch and old fashioned “classics” of other restaurants in NOLA. The service was personal and attentive, while the food was delicious and beautiful. 5 snaps!
What can I say that hasn't been said? Food, excellent. Drinks, same. Service, outstanding (behind the bar, Hannah, was outstanding, super friendly n efficient...as was young man wo - sorry!!! - I didn't get his name). Really, one of those rare occasions when all is excellent to perfect. This place lives up to the reputation. Excellent. I'll come here each time in NOLA. BTW, had boudin balls n red snapper specials. Really. really good. Another big standout in a city with many!
I have been to New Orleans many times, this was the first time I visited. This is easily the best cheeseburger I have ever had. Cooked to perfection. The burger fits in your hand, not greasy at all. The bun is soft with a slight crisp when biting and all ingredients are arranged perfectly. I had to add ketchup to it, should of asked if it can be done prior. The only issue I had is they offer basic fries with the burger. Sweet potato fries would have truly made the experience perfect. Must have burger. The waiter, who I thinks name was Savannah or Hannah, was amazing. Did an amazing job explaining the taste. Very friendly. Promote her now! Will comeback every time I come to visit New Orleans!
We had a stellar and memorable dinner at charming La Petite Grocery. The blue crab beignets are delectable and craveworthy (seriously, my mouth is watering as I write this!). Our entrées (the snapper special and the rabbit) were creative and perfectly executed. The peach elote dessert was an amazing finish. We enjoyed a lot of great food during our trip to New Orleans, but this was definitely the best meal we had.
Probably the best meal I’ve had in New Orleans. The bolognese was one of the best I’ve had. The sauce is perfect. Turtle tastes mostly like ground beef you’re worried about liking the flavor. Burger has to be top 10 I’ve ever had. Normally with a patty that thick it’s dry or raw inside but the flavor and texture is perfect. Fries are thin style and good but there’s better in NOLA. Ricotta Dumplings are perfect. Dunk as much of the perfect sauce on them as you can. Roasted lamb t-bone was perfect. Get it medium rare. Not a single bite you had to chew forever and it almost tasted like filet mignon. You have to get the crab cake beignets because you won’t find it anywhere else but they’re not my favorite. It’s perfectly fried and texture is great and creamy inside is great but it would be better with more meat and some bites were a little bitter.
Another excellent meal at La Petite Grocery. Unique cocktails, great chef and good service. I thought it might not be open on a Monday night, but it was quite busy. For cocktails, I had the Blood Oath and Makin' Groceries. For the meal; Citrus Glazed Pork Belly as an app, Shellfish Stew as the entrée and a Pear Macaron thing for dessert.
This restaurant won the 2016 James Beard for best chef south for a reason. The crab bigneits are probably the best in town. The creative takes on classic dishes are wonderful, such as a turtle bolognese. You won't be disappointed by the cocktail menu either. Try their take on the French 75 - the LPG French 75. And be sure and leave room for desert if at all possible!
After a long drive to New Orleans, we quickly looked for a decent restaurant from the eater website. I picked this restaurant because of a good review on eater and because it closes at 9:30 pm on Thursday. I didn’t expect that it was going to be one of the best restaurants experience we had during our 4 days in NOLA. Inside the restaurant has a classy yet relaxing ambiance. The service was great throughout the meal. If you like floral drinks, try the “In The Clouds” cocktail. They put egg white in it, making the drink tastes so smooth. It also looks very pretty. Their other cocktails look interesting too. For appetizers, we ordered Yellowfin Tuna Tartare, Ricotta Dumplings, and Blue Crab Beignets. Yellowfin Tuna Tartare and Blue Crab Beignets were good as expected. The creaminess of the Ricotta Dumplings was perfect. The crab in the Beignets was fresh. It met our expectations. For entrees, we ordered Confit Duck Leg and Turtle Bolognese. They put a perfectly cooked egg on top of the Bolognese. It was probably the first time we tried turtle meat. I didn’t notice any strong character of the meat. It was nice and tender like pork or chicken. We were happy with the meal. Highly recommended!!
Very pleasant and friendly staff. The Watermelon & Cucumber Chilled Soup was such a pleasant surprise. It was refreshing and light and the perfect way to begin to cool down for a lunch break. The Chicken Salad sandwich was good and the fries were such a salty treat. It was a very nice and pleasant meal.
What a charming and quintessential New Orleans restaurant. I sat at the bar today and had great service from the two bartenders this afternoon. Whatever they suggest to try you can trust. Everything was delicious. I could cut the beef short rib with a fork. And you’ll have to ask about that chocolate dessert. Chocolate Cremeux wasn’t on the dessert menu. Freshly prepared and melt-in-your-mouth good. It's an event eating here. A wonderful event!! Thank you all!!!
La Petite Grocery, LPG, easily became one of my more memorable meals of the year... everything is delicious; to the point where I'm out of town so my wife is already planning a return to LPG when I return in 2 months. We enjoyed everything from the service that was fully enthusiastic that we came in to the food that was deliciously crafted. We ordered the blue crab beignets (MUST HAVE), steak tartare (yum!), and the savory and creamy Shrimp and Grits!!! We'll definitely be coming back as we stated earlier. @phidingthefam
Had a lovely dining experience! Very pet friendly, we sat outside and they even brought our dog a bowl of water-which was very thoughtful! Excellent attention to service and detail. The food is delicious…returned to there for brunch. Best Bloody Mary hands down. It tastes as good as it looks!!
Dinner was delightful at LPG. We shared a few dishes between us and everything was delicious. Portions were a little on the smaller side. I loved the crab beignets! And the ricotta dumplings! The tuna tartare, beets, and fish was also amazing. Couldn't fault the food. The staff were attentive and helpful. For dessert we got three - and loved the pecan tart and the butterscotch!
Bistro setting with white tablecloths. We had blue crab beignets, apple salad and turtle bolognese. Each were distinctly delicious. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful in selecting dishes and drinks. We’ll have to come back for the burger - every table had one and it looked good! Would recommend.
Wonderful restaurant with amazing vintage charm. Had a lunch reservation on a Friday for noon. Arrived an hour earlier and they were able to accommodate us. Wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We ordered a glass of champagne as well as a French 75, both drinks were between 12 and $17 with a beautiful presentation. We ordered a side of broccoli for seven dollars, the pork cheek raviolo for around 12 or 15, and the beef tartare which was also around 12 and 15. Everything arrived promptly and was absolutely delicious. Wished that we had more room, will definitely be back on our next visit!
Unbelieve, top notch service, lovely atmosphere, and one of the best meals we have ever had in NOLA. Everything was so fresh and perfectly cooked with no excessive waiting for anything. Worth the price for a phenomenal birthday dinner. Just a short walk from our house too, so we will definitely be back. HIGHLY recommend!
I gave this 5/5 stars but really it's more like 20/5. One of the best meals I've ever had. The Gumbo AND the Macaroni are probably the best I've ever had in my life. My entree was the Alligator Bolognese and she got the scallops. Both were so delicious. And desserts were absolutely top tier stuff. I will DEFINITELY be going back. This is literally my new #1 favorite place in NOLA. That good.
Everything we had here was amazing, including the service! We started with the Ricotta Dumplings and a off-the-menu Okra Shrimp Fritters...both were fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend the dumplings. I had the Shrimp & Grits and they were hands down the best shrimp & grits I've ever had. Lots of big shrimp! Another member of our party had an off-the-menu Tuna dish that was incredible. The tuna melted in your mouth. The Pan Roasted Tenderloin was also great and perfectly cooked. We had the Roasted Broccoli, jar of pickles, and Mac & Cheese for sides, served family style. I don't ever say this, but I would steer clear of the Mac & Cheese. It wasn't bad but there's definite room for improvement, and I imagine some of the other sides are better. Overall, great dining experience and highly recommend!
Don’t let the name fool you. There’s nothing “petite” about this great lunch. We started with the pork belly appetizer. The smoky pork, combined with the tangy kimchi was a great contrast. The tuna tartare is also very good. Finally, we had the blue crab beignets for the table. They were delicious, light, fluffy and tasty. For lunch I had the alligator bolognese (mostly to annoy my daughter). I won’t lie to you and tell you that it tasted like chicken. It didn’t. It was far better than chicken. The egg in the middle is a very nice touch. My wife had the shrimp and grits. I don’t normally care for grits, but these were creamy and delicious, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. My daughter had the pork shoulder sandwich special, with pickles and cole slaw. It could be one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. Finally, even though most of us were already bursting at the seams, we had dessert: the butterscotch pudding, and the bananas foster. I love butterscotch, and the addition of crushed peanuts and sponge cake made this a dessert to remember. The bananas foster, while not prepared in the traditional way, was quite good. I would not miss this place, even though we had to walk about 5 miles afterwards to try and make ourselves hungry for dinner in a few hours.
Pricey? Yes. Worth it? YES! Amazing food, Great cocktails. We got a seat at the bar. Honestly, the whole menu looked great and it was hard to choose, still I had to pick the specials 😅 I would order the butternut tart and the beet pie again in a heartbeat. And then I would try to actually order from the regular menu too. My husband would order the steak and ganache again.
Amazing flavors at this restaurant. My steak was tender and juicy. It came with potatoes and crispy kale. It was spectacular. Tomato salad was so good with the olive oil drizzle and sunflower seeds. Delicious. My crab beignets were really good too. I would come back to NOLA because of the food!
One of the best meals we had in New Orleans. We had heard a lot about Petite Grocery so were pretty hyped for our meal, and it didn't disappoint. We wanted to try everything, but settled with cocktails, the blue crab beignets, gulf shrimp & grits and the fish special that day. Everything was fantastic, but we both could not stop eating those grits! Wow. It was rich, creamy and comforting but it had texture & tasted like fresh corn, so didn't feel heavy at all. The crab beignets were also memorable. Again, for a pretty rich dish, it didn't feel heavy. It was filled with crab and the aioli had a good amount of acidity to balance it. Our least favourite dish was the pecan tart was had for dessert, which was just ok. The service was great. I'm a slow eater and even though it was a weekend, wasn't made to feel rushed. I would 100% go again.
We celebrated our anniversary at this quaint little dining restaurant. It had a nice southern decor. The staff/waitress were professional, friendly, timely and knowledgeable with all aspects of their menu. PLUS, this chef owned place has been awarded the prestigious James Beard award, too many times to count. It did not disappoint with the unique dishes that were offered. We only had 3 in our party, so couldn't try it all. We will definitely be back! We started our meal with scotch and 2 of their signature drinks. The Bee's Knees cocktail was delicious with gin and lavender/honey. My son enjoyed the 100 years cocktail. Such a complex array of flavors! Trust me...you need to try this! We started our meal with the Crispy Pork Belly and the Blue Crab Beignet. WOW!! Both appetizers were amazing. The Crispy Pork Belly had pickled vegetables and Kim Chee. The pork Belly was perfectly roasted/grilled/ idk? with a crispy texture and tender inside. So So good. And the Beignets, were an over the top little ball of deliciousness! Our party enjoyed the Flounder speciality, the Paneed Rabbit and the Shellfish Stew for our entrees. The Flounder was perfectly fried on a bed of couscous, with a beautiful variety of asparagus and snow peas . Most delicious was the fried Squash Blossom. We would only suggest to lighten up on the salt on the flounder, otherwise perfect! The rabbit was deboned and had a panko type breading. A delicate white moist meat on a bed of grits and a smooth/creamy sauce. So so good. The Shellfish stew was plentiful and in a hearty broth. It had wonderful whiskered shrimp that really were the stars of the dish! For dessert we shared the Buttermilk Icebox Pie. We have mixed feelings on this dessert. It was beautiful but more of a showpiece than a delicious dessert. My son said "It's the type of dessert that wins on Iron Chef!" It's a busy dessert with blueberry compote, sorrel granita, these tiny wafers and a buttermilk custard. It's a gorgeous dessert, but not enough for sharing. I highly recommend this restaurant. Amazing Delicious Unique Cuisine! Most importantly, the staff were kind and professional.
On a road trip with my wife and we decided to see what all the hype was about here. This place did not disappoint, great service (Jeffrey) and the management were very educational about the whiskeys and varieties. Ended my night with a glass of neat bourbon and the Butterscotch Pudding… hooooooo lordt! I wish I could give this place more stars. I came over on a budget and still had an incredible experience, top notch!
We had reservations for five o’clock and showed up at 6 thinking that we were on time, but they were able to accommodate us. This was such a great gastronomical experience. We ordered the cucumber melon soup which was a great starter. The synchronization of the melon, cucumber and chili oil with the mint basil was just perfect. The salad was just such a fresh combination of flavors. The steak tartare had beets which made it very interesting. the special fish had Crabtree on top and lentils on the bottom. The fish was cooked perfectly and the crab was delicious. The lentils to my liking were a little dried, but once it was combined with the juice of the cherry tomatoes was delicious. The paneed rabbi was great. The breaded component was very delicate and the capers along with the lemon was just perfect. I highly recommended.
This place has great ambience, food, and service. We came here the first night in Nola, and it did not disappoint. I got Julius' Demise and Bee's Knees. I loved Julius' Demise!! For food we got the following: crab beignets, fried green tomatoes, and shrimp and grits. This place has the trifecta- good food, service, and great drinks!
absolutely WONDERFUL experience. the food was delicious. the pork belly appetizer was much larger than i expected and it was extremely high quality. the crab beignet appetizer was alright — the pork belly was much better. salad was very good and large enough to split with 2 people as a pre-dinner salad. the chicken breast was PERFECT and moist. the rabbit was tender without bones or gristle. the tres leches dessert was perfect.
Absolutely fantastic brunch this past Sunday. Two of us got seats at the bar on Mother’s Day without any reservation. Service was fantastic throughout. We tried nearly all the cocktails on the menu between the two of us, and all were very good. Definitely a lighter/summery/brunch vibe to the cocktail list but all really tasty. Shrimp and grits were phenomenal, the brioche French toast was great; and the special crawfish cakes plus the specialty crab beignets were all on point. Everything is quite pricey (almost $200 for 2 of us) but quality and service was great. Definitely will come back!
Wow, discovered another wonderful place in New Orleans, the food was amazing, service was great (the bartender on Tuesday night April 02). I had the fried green tomatoes and the Shellfish stew... wow, that dish was BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUS!! I'm not big into fried foods but the fried green tomatoes were very well done, nice pairing with the cheese and bacon... This place is kind of casual fancy, very nice interior, great subtle lighting (good place for a nice romantic dinner... if I had a date...) but in any case, book a reservation (highly recommended) and enjoy the wonderful presentations, smells and tastes of these delicious foods! I will l definitely be back!
The service is great and food is delicious. Soft lighting and good music set the right atmosphere. We got the alligator bolognese and the rabbit. Great flavors. The cream puff dessert was delicious as well. We came to celebrate a birthday and they were kind enough to bring out a nice cardamom ice cream.
We had a very pleasant late lunch at Le Petite Grocery. We did not have reservations but we were able to get a table by the window with lots of light and plenty of people-watching opportunity. Our hostess was great and shared with us her favorites. She also checked on us during our meal. All the food we had was on point. We had all the classics: gumbo, fried oyster salad, fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits. The highlight was the blue crab beignets- we have not seen it elsewhere on menus in NO and it was very unique and good. Overall, highly recommended.
So delicious! We are big Top Chef fans and were excited to try Chef Justin's restaurant. It's the kind of place that it's tough to decide what to get-- everything on the menu sounds so good! We enjoyed everything we got, but the blue crab beignets were especially dreamy. The cocktail program is fun and unique too! Our service here was the best we experienced during our weekend trip to New Orleans, and we definitely look forward to coming back.
Petite Grocery delivered the best meal of my visit to New Orleans. Housed in an elegant, classic building, the restaurant strikes a perfect balance between refined cuisine and a lively atmosphere. While the indoor space can be a bit noisy, we chose to sit outside on a lovely evening, which enhanced the experience. We started with the apple and celeriac salad, complemented by blue cheese and pecans, alongside the delicate and flavorful blue crab beignet—both were fantastic. For mains, the shrimp and grits were absolutely out of this world, and the short ribs on polenta were rich, tender, and deeply satisfying. I would not hesitate to order a side of French fries, they are addictive. Desserts maintained the same level of excellence, perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. Every dish showcased careful preparation and a respect for classic flavors with a refined touch. If you're looking for an exceptional dining experience in New Orleans, Petite Grocery is a must-visit.
I dined in for Sunday brunch while in town and wow…La Petite Grocery showed me such a good time. The brunch and cocktail menu is well balanced. While I only tried a few dishes, La Petite strikes me as the place that doesn’t go overboard with their options and what they do offer, they execute extremely well. The Stonewaller is an absolute MUST try. The smokiness from the mezcal paired with the honey, orange, and lime is such a nice pairing with the seafood heavy offerings. This place is an absolute gem, and it’s no wonder Justin Devillier won the 2016 Best Chef James Beard South award.
The food is spectacular the shrimp & grits is an easy item to recommend & so many items I tried were prepared with flavor, finesse & skill. Even items like Mac and cheese that typically I’d not order or pass by on the menu, were better than expected & I found myself coming back to order again. The house salad is again an easy item to recommend. The dressing is a freshly made flavorful buttermilk-like dressing. What truly make this place a special destination is the people you meet who work here. They are truly people that if they moved to LA… they would easily become stars. They have so many interesting, talented & fascinating people that work here. I often thought how the person in charge of hiring is very astute. The people are that magic sauce & the food is the cherry on top.
We had the BEST double birthday celebration dinner. The environment was absolutely immaculate. The staff could not have been friendlier or more informative. They gave us our time to catch up and peruse the menu but were right there if we had any questions. As someone who doesn't drink o was pleasantly surprised at the mocktail options as well as the virgin espresso martini. I will be back and the short rib was heaven. The chocolate mousse had so many layers of flavor as well. Everything was delicious.
What a special place. This lovely restaurant is in a great part of New Orleans. The experience and atmosphere was very peaceful and delicious. I had one of THE best burgers I’ve ever had. Top 5 for sure! My hubby had the rib tips, which were so tender and delish. We also had the crab beignets, a signature appetizer. Excellent! The gnocchi was also an amazing appetizer! So tasty and savory and the shrimp and grits., fabu! We visited the restaurant for my friend’s birthday and were pleasantly surprised by a delicious dessert sorbet. They made an amazing whiskey based cocktail, Bee Hive and a mocktail , Tropical Flip. The staff was amazing, attentive and professional. A fantastic experience and meal! Thank you La Petite Grocery!
One of the best restaurants we had the pleasure of trying during our stay in New Orleans! The food was exceptional - the blue crab beignet was so good and is a must order! The beignet had a perfect crisp and the crab was so flavorful. The turtle bolognese and the shrimp and grits were amazing as well. Everything was cooked to perfection. Our server also briefed us on the rich history of the restaurant as it used to be a grocery store. Overall a fantastic place - the food and history makes it worthy visit!
Eat, drink and be Merry here! We had the most unique and delicious meal. We had a feast with 3 appetizers for the table (ricotta dumplings were my favorite) 4 mains (rabbit was my very favorite) and 5 desserts (butterscotch pudding and the blackberry cheesecake my favorites). A nice cocktail selection, a bottle of wine and two tawny ports. Fabulous service from Lucy the very fun Minnesota gal! Great conversations and people watching! Love it.
Fantastic restaurant. Excellent atmosphere. Food was outstanding. Our group had the steak, duck breast, turtle bolognese, and Paneed Rabbit. Everything was delicious! Crab beignets were great! Baked macaroni was yummy, get it! Cocktails were awesome. Service was excellent. Noise level increases as the space gets busy. But, we were a party of six and the we were able to have great conversation throughout dinner.
I visited New Orleans with my friends, a married couple, with the intent on trying some of the best restaurants the city had to offer. La Petite Grocery came highly recommended. We made a reservation for 11am for lunch, or maybe brunch. I can't remember exactly. Irreguardless, the service was attentive and staff were helpful and patient. The food was great. I don't drink but my friends did, and they truly enjoyed everything they ordered. The decor was simple yet elegant. A great experience.
Stopped in as a single with no reservations and was seated at the bar. I had the gumbo and fried oysters with the fried oysters being one of the best things I have eaten. (Sorry no pic I ate them too fast) and had the butterscotch pudding for desert. The food was fantastic along with the service. This is a recommendation of the highest regard. Please stop and enjoy when in town.
A group of 10 of us all enjoyed our lunch. We ordered The Pickle Jar, Fried Green Tomatoes, Blue Crab Beignets and fries to start and they were all delicious. I ordered the Pan Roasted Chicken Breast and it was amazing. Others ordered Shrimp &Grits, Shellfish Stew and the fish sandwich. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their entree. The staff was attentive and service was great.
We enjoyed a terrific lunch. The blue crab beignets were very different and delicious. Friendly wait staff and great service.
Food is delicious! Pricy but so worth it! I ordered the duck breast and was not disappointed! Dessert was also spectacular! We ordered one of each, they were all superb!
Another wonderful experience at LPG. Food was delicious - special recommendation for the pork belly and gumbo appetizers. Our server was perfect, attentive without being disruptive. Can’t wait to return!
La Petite Grocery absolutely knocked it out of the park. The food was exceptional from start to finish, but the pork belly deserves its own standing ovation—it was hands-down the best I’ve ever had. The service was just as impressive. Our server, Lucy, was phenomenal—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm. She struck that rare balance of being right there when you need her and invisible when you don’t. She made the experience feel relaxed, personal, and special without ever trying too hard. La Petite Grocery is one of those places where great food and great service come together effortlessly. It’s the kind of meal you’re still talking about the next day—and planning your return before you even leave. Highly recommend.
Absolutely incredible and unforgettable culinary experience. Finally getting to visit this establishment has been a dream of mine for over 15 years. When we arrived we were treated better than family and everyone in my party left full and raving about everything they ordered. Executive chef Joe Tiedman did an absolutely outstanding job sending pure culinary perfection out of the kitchen to the patrons tables. Manager Katie was so on top of taking care of everyone’s needs in the dining room that a drink never ran out and an empty plate wasn’t left on the table. I will definitely be back. Thank you to all of the staff at La Petite Grocery for a truly unforgettable experience.
Truly exceptional from start to finish! The flavors of each bite of every dish were 10/10 and the cocktails also 10’s. I go to a lot of restaurants so are not easily impressed, this place made it into my “best meals ever” category. Can’t wait to go back
Hands down the most amazing meal I’ve had in a long time. As a Louisiana native I can tell you this is no New Orleans tourist trap selling you out on typical Cajun/creole dishes. This is a step above in a comfortable fashion. As for our server Lauren, her impeccable service and warm demeanor should be awarded.
Came for brunch for our birthday trip and did not disappoint. Pork belly was delicious. I had the blue crab and brie melt and highly recommend. My wife had the poached shrimp Benedict and wow. Fried green tomatoes were amazing. We split the dark chocolate torte for dessert. Excellent restaurant, service and food and highly recommend for any occasion.
Espectacular,un lugar unico,atencion ,higuiene y muy buena comida.GRACIAS.
Nice fine dining spot when you want to get away from the Quarter. Service is superb and the food is very good. Some of the dishes are a little over-thought. Example, the "pickles" on the burger are more like cucumbers than pickles. It's still a good burger, but if you're serving a $22 burger with fries, it should be decadent. Same with the macaroni side. Mac n cheese, but not enough cheese. Good, but I've certainly had better/cheaper mac n cheese. Salads are pretty lame, don't waste time on them. Again, very good overall, but trying to do too much. Would have enjoyed more fundamentals, bounce pass, pick and roll, layup, etc.
We visited La Petite Grocery for a small celebration, and while the evening was intimate and enjoyable, it missed some of the charm we had hoped for. Arriving early, the atmosphere felt subdued and did not quite capture the vibrant spirit of New Orleans. The service was warm and attentive throughout. My entrée, the paneed rabbit, was exceptional. It was tender, rich in flavor, and easily one of the best rabbit dishes I have ever had. It brought together comfort and elegance in a memorable way. The steak tartare, however, was disappointing. A dish that should feel bold and refined tasted dull and uninspired. It lacked the clarity and finesse that make tartare feel special. Instead of lifting the meal to new heights, it faded into the background. La Petite Grocery is a solid choice for a thoughtful and relaxed dining experience. While I would not place it among the very best restaurants in New Orleans, it is certainly worth a visit, especially for a quiet evening where good food and conversation matter most.
I want give this restaurant 5 stars . The food was really good and the service was spot on with suggestions. We had a Sunday brunch; I ordered the shrimp and grits. I enjoyed the grits... and all 4 of the shrimp. But just 4? Maybe the kitchen missed 2... at least 1...? I'd certainly go back and give La Petite another try. Reservations are highly recommended.
Writing this review to acknowledge our wonderful serve from Rainey. I think is the best service of all the restaurants we’ve eaten at in NOLA. I liked the food, but the Blue Crab Beignets were a bit too salty. My Brioche Pan Perdu was good too ( just burnt around edges). I still highly recommend for a mice meal!
As someone with a peanut allergy, I could not eat most of the menu. When I read the menu online, there were no allergy warnings on it, so I didn't know in advance. With that being said, my friend and I split the cassoulet and the ricotta dumplings. The ricotta dumplings were out of this world delicious. Pillowy, with a delightfully smooth mushroom sauce. Our service was fantastic as well.
Food was okay, not great. Soup tasted like paste. Bread was delicious. Gumbo was average. Scallops were above average. Duck was terrible, dry, chewy, and bland. Temp was nice to sit outside, but the street was very noisy with the vehicles. For $230 for a family of 4, I would expect more.
The crab Beignets (5/5) were one of the best bites I had in NOLA so get them. Light and packed with crab. We also really liked the chai cheesecake. However, the shrimp and grits were so salty - shame since there was excellent flavor. Seems like a nice atmosphere.
So the drinks were not very appealing. Nobody in our group liked the cocktails. The chicken sausage gumbo though was amazing!! The lamb had too much lime but was fairly done well. The Mac and cheese was good but honestly they should mix it with the gumbo. I would recommend for a light meal but with water.
Not sure what to make of this place. I initially arrived well before closing only to be turned away by the hostess. She would not allow me to dine in, sit at the bar or order to-go. I then left and returned shortly before closing to be seated immediately by a different hostess. Once seated the food and service were fine and I had no further issues.
The crab beignets were good. You get three for $15 and they're the size of a donut hole. This is what they're known for and while they're good, they are small, overpriced and not anything to write home about. I also had the turtle bolonaise. It was good. The pasta was fresh and the sauce was good however as far as I know the meat could have been anything. The sauce made it so you could not discern what meat was used. They say turtle so I suppose it was. Let me say that after that dish, I still don't know what turtle tastes like because the sauce overwhelms the meat. My daughter had the short rib, and that's what it was...one short rib, about a tablespoon of grits in sauce for nearly $40. That means about 3 - 5 bites in the entire dish. One thing I will say is that the prices don't match the quality/quantity of the food. The atmosphere was good but personally I'm more about the food than the ambiance and that's what you pay for here - ambiance because the food is definitely overpriced.
I went for dinner to celebrate a friend’s birthday and was immediately impressed by how cute this place is. They have a free parking lot across the street and there was also some street parking. We tried the crab beignets because of the other reviews, but no one at the table was impressed with them. I wasn’t a fan of the menu selections so decided to play it safe with the LPG Cheeseburger. It started out good, but the more I bit into it, the more I realized the quality of the meat wasn’t the best. I couldn’t chew portions of it. The concept was good but the execution was flawed. If going in a group, know that they can’t provide separate bills. You can tell them how much to charge to each card but that sucked because we had to calculate and figure out who should pay what.
A tad overhyped and overpriced. All the portions were incredibly small yet incredibly expensive. To excuse this, the flavors have got to be amazing. The crab beignets was the only thing we tasted that was redeeming enough. Crispy on the outside and creamy crab filling on the inside. The Ricotta dumplings were a little bland for my taste. No idea why so many people like the shellfish stew or the shrimp and grits. The stew was fishy shrimp broth and a bit of soggy seafood with a piece of bread and the shrimp and grit was sour? We sat outside since the restaurant was freezing inside. Maybe they had dine and dashers but right after my cousin and I ordered, our waiter asked if we wanted to pay our bill under the facade that I said I had an hour lunch and he wanted to help with me getting out in time. I think an hour was more than enough time to eat and not have to pay first. It was just a weird request and the first time that happened to me.
Kind of funny! Looked super cute online. They didn’t actually have a larder, so not what I expected. My meal was delicious, but vibes were kind of weird and I think it was overpriced for both the portions and the service for lunch. Played oldies which was also a weird vibe haha. This feels like they’re targeting an older crowd. I’d imagine in the evening it would be cozier but didn’t love the lunch vibe. A couple funny things. The seats at the bar were too high so you couldn’t scoot yourself all the way in. They put out what they called “mats” which were just stock black towels. Felt like they just didn’t want to clean the bar… weird. They didn’t have purse hooks. They didn’t give me a spoon with my cassoulet. Just some funny service things that felt like just checking a box rather than providing good service. If it was well priced or if portions were bigger I wouldn’t mind, but spending $50 for one person for lunch (2 small appetizers and a non alcoholic shrub soda), I want the details to be a little more up market. This might be harsh, but I feel like they’re skating by with high prices due to past James beard wins. Kind servers and bartenders working with what they’ve got and very delicious small portion food.
Neat place. Cool history. My table was a party of 9. Drinks were brought out quick. Food was on order for over an hour before it came out. It was middle of the road. I wish I could give a better review. I really wanted dessert, but was afraid of the time it would take to receive it. Very limited menu and I didn't get a sense of the true NOLO cuisine.
i judge places based on price value quantity ration. they stacked up james beards 10 years ago and now seem to be resting on their reps while milking the customers by serving salty slops. with 0 michelin, 39bux for their shell fish “stew”: 5 measly clams (2 were empty), 3 shrimps (rubber). not even nyc charges these kinds of prices. everything else was overly salty, from the fried green tomato to the turtle bolognese of course, chef response was this is normal saltiness. management did comp the fish stew. hopefully the feedback will give them a wake up call.
Buyer beware. The food is mediocre and insanely over priced for what you get, but the service is terrible. We've had two terrible experiences dining here and will never go back. The people who work there are just plain rude, seating there is an insane process, even with a reservation. Apparently, moving a barstool over to an empty space to allow two people to sit together is NOT ALLOWED!! But letting people from the parade saddle up and squeeze into the space next to you is. Bottom line. They have a terrible attitude, and the food is just okay. Too many other great places to eat in NOLA to waste your time one this one.
