One of my favorite restaurants in NY!!! The quality of the food is outstanding and the price is so reasonable! The service is also amazing every time I go there! This is one restaurant that I go back to time and time again and always recommend it to friends and family!! I highly recommend trying the skirt steak, octopus and lamb sausage- they’re are my favorite!
In a nutshell, electric chair worthy! I’m a huge snob and pride myself with a taste for meats. I’ve been to Don Julio in Buenos Aires rated #1 in the world, and many others, including locally. I’m mostly disappointed when I go out for steak. I rarely ever feel compelled to write a compliment. Well, this is the darn best Ribeye I have ever had. And the price is top deal. Add Monday BYOB with no fee, just a killer deal.
A highly recommended venue for authentic steak lovers!! You will be greeted with an Argentinian hospitality led by the manager Alex that makes you feel comfortable. The waiters are extremely friendly and helpful, we received full and thorough run through the menu. The food is spot on! The steaks will leave you with a mouthwatering rich flavor that made me not want to have anything after. Thank you Balvanera, I would definitely come back!
By far, this is the best restaurant in LES and I have had the best green salad ever. It was so delicious with the balance of their delicacy’s, the combination of greens, cheeses, herbs and their hand skills. The fresh ingredients of Caesar salad dressing and their secret recipe of their homemade dressing is something that I am convincing you to try. We were sitting at the bar and were so satisfied and lifted with professionalism service provided by Cynthia. She was so sweet and we were delighted to be taken care of by her. It’s been a real pleasure to dining with this marvelous restaurant. Thank you indeed
Absolutely phenomenal experience at this Argentinian gem. From the first bite to the last sip, everything was top-notch — rich flavors, perfectly grilled meats, and an authentic atmosphere that transports you straight to Buenos Aires. Special mention to Nicolò, the manager, who was truly outstanding. Warm, professional, and passionate — he made us feel like VIPs the entire evening. A rare combination of great food and even better hospitality. Can’t wait to return!
Balvanera is a hidden gem on the Lower East Side. The food is expertly prepared, with each dish leaving you craving more. Their wine list is outstanding, thoughtfully curated to perfectly complement every course. Beyond the food, the service is exceptional. The staff makes you feel at home from the moment you walk in and throughout your entire meal. Alex and Jason, in particular, go above and beyond to ensure a wonderful dining experience!
11/10 experience. My girlfriend and I were shocked by how well we were treated at Balvanera. Alex, the manager, was such a great presence and made the ambiance incredible. The staff are extremely well mannered and the food is so damn good. Go, go, go
Last night in New York and we found this fantastic restaurant . What an absolute gem ! sensational flavours We shared 5 of the starters and each one was delicious . Thank you so very much for the wonderful friendly service and outstanding food Highly recommend
This place was PHENOMENAL!! The Huevos a Caballo was cooked perfectly. The sauces accompanying the dish were perfect. AND the bottomless mimosas were great! The flavors all stood out on their own, but together really made it memorable! The drinks weren’t watered down (or juiced down) as many other places are. Definitely will be returning ASAP! Also our server was so nice, attentive, and genuine. If you get a chance, GO THERE!!
Balvanera is now one of my favorite Argentinian restaurants in the city. Walked in on a friday night with no issue. Food and service were excellent. We had the raddichio salad, morcilla, ribeye and the setas (assorted mushrooms). From beginning to end the food and service surpassed all expectations. The morcilla and ribeye were perfectly seasoned and grilled and the setas and radicchio were excellent sides. We had a couple glasses of their malbec as well. Our server had great enthusiasm and energy, we will definitely be back!
Came here for a friends birthday dinner. The hostess greeted us in a very professional and welcoming manner. The server was very knowledgeable and steered us perfectly with our choices. The beets were amazing, empanadas mmmmm, cheese impeccable and steak was very tatsy- true Argentinian style. Deserts were delectable as well.
Had an amazing birthday dinner with 12 friends, and everything was perfect! The food was delicious, the wine selection was excellent, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Alex, the restaurant manager, went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic experience. His team provided attentive service and friendly demeanor made the night even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for a great dining experience—will definitely be back!
Perfectly cooked Argentinian steak. Might be the best in the city. Staff is super friendly. Small chill spot. I’m surprised they don’t have a Michelin star or bib gourmand. Sangria is delicious, they have a wide selection of wine as well.
The food and vibe of the place are great but the service here is fabulous. I’ve been several times and something that always brings me back is the staff. I usually come when Emanuel is working and he is extremely personable and attentive - one of a kind guy! I come for the food but end up staying because of the hospitality, one of my favorite places in the city.
What a great place! Had an early dinner with my husband and his sister and ordered plates to share. Zanahorias, coliflor, mollejas (sweetbreads), and of course the Tabla de Carnes. Everything was tasty and fresh. Only thing we could not (would not) eat was the morcilla (blood sausage). Just not for us. Other than that cleared the plates and washed it down with the house Sangria (yummmm).
Server who was also the sommelier was so helpful and attentive. Beautiful and quiet to sit outside. Enough space between tables. Beyond five stars Dessert and dessert wine- incredible. Only thing is you cannot taste the cardamom in the cake easily. Beyond five stars. Food - we choose all veggie options. Many options and very filling and tasty. One was a bit to salty. So is give the food 4-4.5 stars.
Great place for an Argentinian steakhouse meal. The ribeye steak was very a perfect medium rare, and well- seasoned. Provoleta and the grilled sausage were both delicious, and the corn empanadas were warm and soft. Good selections of wines with an Argentinian focus that has more than just Malbecs. Seating is a bit tight, but the overall cobe is very warm and relaxed inside. Need a reservation on the weekend
Amazing cozy spot. It is very small. You feel so comfortable and relaxed. Almost like in somebody's dinning room. I am not Argentinian food guru but we enjoyed all the food. Our server Fabiola G. was sweet, helpful, professional, and cheerful. We had Sunday brunch. They have unlimited Mimosas you would enjoy very much, especially size. All food is very tasty. We had a great time.
The place impresses on many levels. Their culinary approach succeeds beyond most others. Friendly and quick service. We noticed exceptional cleanliness!! All parts of our visit were wonderful & I plan to come back!
visit 1: The berry best Had a wonderful brunch last weekend at @balvaneranyc in the Lower East Side. The Argentinian steak house is serving up some delicious options. The waffles with berries and chantilly were so yummy. The streak and eggs was quite a fancy breakfast meal as well. Plus there was bottomless mimosas or sangria for only $20! visit 2: Such an eggcellent brunch I’ll always return to @balvaneranyc for brunch. I need to try just about everything in menu. What I’ve had so far had always been amazing. We did bottomless sangria again and we ordered Torrejas Lola - sweer milk brioche, dulce de leche, caramelized banana, berries - and Huevos a Caballo - 2 sunny eggs, skirt steak, papas, fresh chimi.
Went at ~1:30 on a Saturday for brunch. Make sure to make reservations as the place is small and was packed. However, the service was phenomenal and our waiter was very attentive. Used the Pulsd deal for brunch and would highly recommend if you’re satisfied with 2 drinks per person. Drinks were DELIGHTFUL and STRONG. Would recommend the spritz and the sangria which were both generous. Definitely would go again.
Really enjoyed our dinner here! Great environment, it wasn't busy when we got there around 6:30pm (which was very nice) and it got busier when we finished (and we understand why). Delicious food, nice service, would recommend and would repeat. We ordered the empanadas (carnitas + humita), the burrata (they recommended it to us), pulpo (also recommended) and one chorizo. For dessert we got a flan (OMG!) and the torrejas. Everything was sooo good!
Discovered this place by accident but very glad that we did, had a espresso then ended up ordering a glass of wine and empanadas my wife had a sangria which was amazing. The empanadas were really good I liked the beef ones with the spicy green sauce. Our bar tender just recently moved over from Argentina and the restaurant was a very pleasant atmosphere it had a simple old school vibe.
This was such a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and Emanuel was so kind and accommodating. My friend and I will definitely be back!
Amazing from start to finish. I had my birthday dinner here and the food was fantastic. The sangria pitcher was yummy. The steaks are absolutely delicious directly from Argentina! The empanadas alwere flavorful and nice as a snack. The octopus appetizer was perfectly grilled and delicious. Our waitress was super cute. I will be back 100%. Thank you!
This place balances all aspects of the dining experience. The ambiance, staff attention, and meal quality are top-notch. Cheerful feeling throughout. I look forward to catching up with my friends on staff. Make a point to try this restaurant.
After a long day of having fun in Soho with the family I had the task to find a place to have a great time and enjoy some food. Found this place and went for a 20min walk to get there, reservation was required and we didn't have one but that wasn't a problem because Nicolas was so attentive and nice to us that he arranged a table for three in just minutes. Great, the music was awesome, Cerati in the air! An Spinetta LP in the wall, asked for a couple sangrías, Provoletta, Argentinian Rib Eye medium rare and jamón ibérico. I could go into details but in one word all I could say is "perfection". If you are planning a day in the Soho, go to Charly Garcia's corner, do some shopping around, visit a musum, enjoy the Washington Square Park and finish the day in Balvanera!
Love this place! Been twice for brunch and it was wonderful both times. Their sangria may be the best I’ve had in the city, dry (which I prefer) and simple. All of the food great as well. Steak cooked perfectly. Surprised it isn’t harder to get in, especially with their bottomless brunch deal. But glad it has a such a cozy chill vibe. Definitely check it out!
We had an incredible experience at Balvanera. It was one of the best steaks I have had in a long time. So flavorful and masterfully cooked. You can truly taste the quality and care in the preparation. The staff was attentive and friendly throughout the night. Even while the restaurant was busy, our waiter made time to connect with us, which made the experience feel personal and welcoming. The sangria is very good and the perfect complement to the meal. We will absolutely be back.
Great cafecito, proveleta, chorizo sandwich, and Torrejas Lola (sweet brioche French toast). Excellent service as well. Emanuel was so so sweet. We will definitely be back
This place will knock it out of the park, the food is just the best, freshest, and the staff are outstanding. I had fish, and my husband had a steak that was to die for. Great wine list, I was able to get my fav Torrontes here. Great appetizers....which we had jamon and sardines.
Don’t know if it’s hidden, but talk about a gem. I have recently made a point of not repeating restaurants, and this is the only spot I had to break the rules for. I also don’t typically write reviews. Very warm, welcoming and homey with an uplifting spirit - perfect spot for a date, special occasion or a dinner with some buddies. I’ve had the chance to try 2 different steaks here, and they were both incredible. Entire wait staff is awesome and really makes the meal special. Artur is an amazing and very informative guy, couldn’t be better at what he does. Very high quality beef all prepared masterfully. Notable dishes I’ve had include the beef tartar, provolena, empanadas, and of course the steaks. Great drinks. Really cannot say enough.
Loved this cute place! The vibe was buzzing but comfortable—you could actually talk without shouting, which is rare. Service was great. The food was top-notch: The Angosto steak was perfectly cooked and so flavorful. Don't skip the empanadas or the fresh beetroot salad. Easily a 5-star recommendation for steak lovers!
Celebrated our daughter's birthday this past Saturday night. Service could not have been more attentive, food could not have been more succulent. We have visited this restaurant a number of times as we visit from Washington and are treated as old friends each time we do. We picked from among the Argentinian steaks on the menu and were and were rewarded for doing so. Ambiance is always warm and welcoming. Balvanera must be on your list!
Delightful! Despite my limited knowledge of wines and meats, the staff guided me perfectly to one of the best dinners I’ve ever had. Everything was excellent — top to bottom. Perhaps just a bit more attention to the outdoor tables, as service there can take a little longer, but overall, absolutely outstanding experience. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Have to give this a 5 star rating. Excellent, juicy, tasty Argentinian steak, grilled to perfection! We tried the rib eye and skirt steak. Superb service, superb gelato (try the mix of 3 flavours - matte, mango and dulce de leche). Go expecting to pay...it ain't cheap! Recommended joint in East Village.
We loved our first dining experience at Balvanera, it definitely won’t be the last! The staff were all extremely nice and easy going. Our waiter had great wine recommendations and took the time to walk us through the menu. Every dish we had was a 10/10 but our favorite was the Setas mushroom dish. It is a must order. Can’t wait to visit again!
Had a very enjoyable meal here on a Friday evening. Thank you to Arturo for great service, making the evening even more special! Everything we ordered was delicious, but we especially enjoyed the skirt steak and croquetas! The atmosphere in the restaurant also has a great vibe. It was nice and lively.
This place is a beauty! The interior is very warm and gives you a feel of a very elite setting. The octopus was good, cooked well and dressed perfectly. We got the salad and the rib-eye, the salad was so earthy, fresh, sufficient to share and just delicious. The steak was cooked well, it had a good amount of marbling on one side, it was soft, it was juicy, it was good! Glad we came to check it out!
My husband has a knack for picking amazing restaurants. We needed something close to a venue we were going to later on in the evening and he picked this place. We couldn't decide what to get so we felt the Argentinian feast was the best option. We started with the empanadas and they were little pockets of deliciousness. I'm still dreaming of the Provoleta which is baked provolone cheese with honey, fresh oregano, pumpkin seeds and tomato confit. Next we had the blood sausage (morcillo) and chorizo. I never tried blood sausage before and really enjoyed it! Also the housemade chorizo was exquisite. The trio of meats were perfectly seasoned and cooked. They had a beautiful char and still managed to be ridiculously rare as requested. The accompanying chimichurri and salsa Criollo were delightful. Even the watercress and roasted red pepper on the plate were divine. The french fries were crispy and delicious. Instead of looking at the wine list, we told our attentive server what our usual preferences are and he provided us with a bottle that complemented our meal and was very tasty. The service was great and the food was top-notch. I only wish I had room for dessert but I know my limits. Hopefully next time!
Loved everything from the food to the service here. We got the steak tartare and provolone as apps and both were great. The skirt steaks we got - entraña - were fantastic. Very good quality meat, seasoned and cooked perfectly. Strongly recommend! The waiters and waitresses there were also great, polite and welcoming. Also love that the restaurant was pretty spacious for the lower east side. Noise level was good, you and your friends can have a conversation without having to yell.
A great place for Argentinian meat! Octopus was nicely cooked and paired with nice, slightly spicy dressing. The steak and potatoes were good - just good meat. The chorizo pan was good too, though the presentation was a bit funny - it was a burger instead of actual chorizo in a long hero-style bread. The price is also much cheaper than most places for what you’re eating. Quaint little restaurant tucked away in East village, with unassuming exterior. The interior is quite charming with mostly wood decor.
A very busy popular bottomless brunch spot. Sangria was a bit dry and not sweet at all, mimosa was nice and refreshing, left refill pitchers for the table. The sunny side up eggs nice and runny. The steak was cook well, but just a weeee bit smaller than expected, it stops at the egg in the picture not covered by it. Server was friendly and attentive even with all tables packed.
I'm not a big fan of Argentinian-style empanadas, but I liked these a lot (carne, humita), moreso than I liked those I've had in Buenos Aires. Torrejas Lola was delicious. The brioche by itself is great, and with the caramelized fruit and dulce de leche it's more delicious. One random bite of it was too burnt, otherwise a nearly perfect meal.
Nice spot for a date night since it’s kind of a slow paced spot. We got the sardines on toast, cod croquettes, octopus and empanadas to start- everything was good but i think the croquettes were my favorite. I would skip the empanadas next time, the filling wasn’t super interesting/flavorful and the breading was a little soggy for us. Steak and fries were excellent, the 16oz was plenty for two people to share.
Great Argentine-inspired food. I tried several savory and sweet brunch options with some friends, and all the food was really good. The food is prepared with a higher-class flair than in Argentina (where I grew up), and even though the authenticity is lost, I think the food tastes better this way. The service was really friendly and helpful.
Love the croquettes and quesos for appetizer. Decent steak. Didn’t like the flavor of the octopus. Delicious dessert and sangria! Great service. I just don’t like how they placed all appetizers all together and tell us to eat the queso first. By the time we ate the croquettes and octopus, it was already cold.
All the appetizers were absolutely perfect, with creative combinations that strike a delightful balance of flavors and textures. However, the steak as a main course fell a bit short of expectations, and the wine selection didn’t quite meet the standard I was hoping for. That said, the atmosphere is wonderful—inviting and stylish, with a warm, welcoming vibe. The service truly stands out; the staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home, even taking the time to learn and remember your name. Such thoughtful touches make the experience memorable and worth a visit!
When you’re going for bottomless brunch, you kind of expect the food to be mid, nothing special. This place proves that you can not only get the drinks you’re looking for AND great breakfast options. Listen it’ll surprise you. And get the burger!! Just go and have fun My ratings are a little different from others 3 stars is average would recommend if it’s accessible 4 is above average highly recommend take a train it’s worth it 5 is I would literally travel just for this place. 2 is in a desperate situation 1 is one and done never go back
I had a really pleasant experience at Balvarena, an Argentine steakhouse in downtown NYC. The service was attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I ordered the ancho, which is a ribeye, and my wife had the skirt steak. The ribeye was excellent, and the skirt was good, though I felt it could have been a bit more flavorful—just not as bold as I expected for a skirt. The fries were tasty, the dessert was delightful, and the cappuccino was on point. The salad, though simple, was refreshing and light. The sangria was also really nice. Overall, I’d give Balvarena around 3.5 to 4 stars. On Valentine’s, the total for two people came to about $230, including tip.
Came here for birthday dinner for 2 without reservations. I was able to get a seat because the restaurant was empty, but the place was buzzing with people shortly after. Balvanera provides an intimate and cozy atmosphere, efficient service though it could've been more friendly, but I'm giving 4 stars for the food and the value of their dinner service. My partner and I both ordered the Argentine feast (~85/person). Our feast came with 2 Argentinian empanadas and Provoleta as appetizers - both of which were very delicious. Our meat platter was cooked to desired temperature and came with 1 side of fries, but it didn't reflect the quality, flavor or expected serving size from a feast. The serving size seems to be the common base of inquiry from all of our neighboring attendees, as all of them were advised that the dishes weren't something you'd share with the table. Perhaps their reviews are based off their brunch service/ BYOB Monday's, something I'd be willing to checkout after feasting elsewhere. But I wouldn't return to this establishment for their entrees.
It was a cozy intimate setting with excellent grilled meat (tender, moist inside and crispy outside, flavorful), sausages and empanadas. The wine selection was decent as well and the service was attentive. I would had given 4 stars to the atmosphere if it was not cold in the restaurant…not sure did they have a heating issue just that night.
We visited this restaurant yesterday and enjoyed the good ambience, friendly staff. However, I ordered a well-done steak as I’m sensitive to red meat, but they initially brought it medium. After mentioning this to the waiter, they took it back and returned a few minutes later, but it was still medium-well, not well-done. My husband, on the other hand, was satisfied with his medium-rare order. Just a heads-up for those who prefer their steak well-done – this might not be the place for you.
I had heard so much hype from friends about this place, but unfortunately it just did not hit the marks. First off, prices are higher than what is advertised on the website, which is unfortunate as a consumer, but I get it, coming back from a pandemic + inflation…just would be better to have that in mind before coming here. The second thing that really bothered me, was my partner and I ordered two IPA’s from a brewery which we have the beers of at home. The waitress was confused and asked us if it was the ale we wanted (from that same brewery) and we corrected that it was in fact the IPA that we wanted. When she brought the beers to us though, it was immediately obvious that the beers were the ales and she had mixed something up. So when she came back around, I respectfully clarified if there was a mix up, but she insisted they were the IPA’s and not the ales, yet we knew this was incorrect, and when we got home we confirmed this. The IPAs we have wt home had a distinctly different taste than the beers we were served. Lastly, and probably the most frustrating, we ordered the platter, which comes in at $70, and for that much you’d expect everything to be perfect. We ordered our steaks medium, and the first two were DELICIOUS (melt in your mouth), but the strip steak was obviously completely overcooked and 100% a wel done. From the pictures you can tell that these are not the same temperature. When you pay so much money, it’s really disheartening to leave an entire steak on your plate because it’s just not cooked correcrly( it unfortunately tasted and had the texture of rubber. I’m positive if it was cooked how we’d asked, it would have been just as delicious as the others. Overall, like I mentioned, it just didn’t hit the marks. Maybe we came in on a bad day and the waiters/cooks were stressed (for some reason they allowed these two tables to toss a paper airplane across the restaurant for like one hour and be super rowdy), but I really wish this place lived up to the hype my friends made it out to seem :( I’m sure that for others, their experience did hit that mark but unfortunately it didn’t for us.
Went here for brunch. The burger was super juicy and delicious. The ham and cheese empanada was really tasty as well. I just felt bad for my husband because he ordered the eggs and skirt steak. If you see the picture the steak and potatoes are hidden underneath the eggs. The steak was tiny. I ate a piece and it was like gum. We also ate indoors but I was still harassed by mosquitoes so next time I will apply Off before coming here.
Very disappointing experience. Winter evening in NYC and the place was cold. Only two tables were taken, the place was empty. A few dishes were OK but others very disappointing; above all, there was vey little value for the prices charged! Also pricing policy is disturbing e.g. you order a steak for $46 and then you are charged another $12 for fries, come on... My recommendation: avoid this place !!!
