I had a fantastic dinner at Il Posto Accanto recently. I opted to sit at the bar, which was pleasantly spacious and not cramped at all. It made for a very attentive and enjoyable experience thanks to the bartender. The food was truly excellent and reminded me of the small, authentic trattorias I have visited in the mountain towns of Tuscany. I ordered two of the nightly specials: the burrata served over grilled focaccia with cured meats, and the Paccheri with Pork Shoulder Ragú. Both were simple, high-quality Italian dishes executed perfectly. If you appreciate honest, well-prepared Italian food, this place is a must-visit.
Italian food is never quite the same once you’ve traveled to Italy, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a restaurant with such a wonderful neighborhood vibe. The dishes are wonderfully simple and deeply flavorful, instantly transported me back to Italy with that same soulful, homemade warmth only a grandmother can deliver. The owner is incredibly kind and made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. I appreciate that the menu changes often, giving your taste buds something new to look forward to each visit. This time we tried the Calamari alla Griglia, Fettuccine Fatte in Casa con Pomodorini e Shiitake, Linguine Vongole, and the Tiramisu. Every dish was fantastic. A true neighborhood treasure that brings a taste of Italy to the city.
a dream of a restaurant. a family owned spot, where the owners have fostered a genuinely friendly and relaxed atmosphere. we joined a diverse crowd of regulars-- friends having real conversations, people meeting partners after work. the food was truly spectacular-- fresh, veggie forward, creative and bursting with flavor. we had the salad, the eggplant (with ricotta and wide pasta), the polenta with mushrooms, and the mascarpone gelato with pistachio and olive oil. we are fortunate to have shared this space
Everything was amazing!! Went on a Wednesday and it was very empty but the vibes were still great. Service was excellent and the food was exquisite. Also the wine was affordable yet delicious. Would 100% go back!
Always my favorite place to visit when we come to New York. We always make sure to reserve a piece of lasagna when making our reservation. Every time I come I get the lasagna and one other new plate so I can try everything and everything is always so good. We had a reservation at 7pm on a Sunday. Atmosphere is always great, always a lot of regulars who are very friendly. Julio is a great host. Can’t recommend this place enough. Our server / bartender Ricardo was also amazing
Kind of a weird vibe but in a great way. The owner is wonderfully chaotic, which is reflected in the menu. Squid ink pasta is stunning. Good wine selection too. Sat next to two highschoolers on a date. They were splitting a bottle of wine which provided great entertainment
As an Italian : I SUGGEST TO GO. Ambience : really CUTE! I loved it even if I ate at the bar, was such a vibe. Sandro, the manager and the colleagues have been really cordial and professional. The service is quick . I had the tortelloni that were AMAZING , the meatballs super good and I split the mushrooms polenta that wasn’t amazing but do you know what ? I told to the manager when he asked me how was the food and I genuinely told him the truth and as a GOOD Italian e offered me two more glasses of wine as an “excuse” GRAZIE SANDRO E GRAZIE POSTO ACCANTO, I felt home . I don’t give 5 stars to the food unless it’s amazing .
Exceptional! The jimmy nardello peppers were the best peppers I’ve ever had and I don’t even like peppers. So good we ordered another serving. Puntarelle (not pictured) was so crisp and expertly prepared. The fall salad was fantastic. Everything was great. The sweet bea pumpkin crème brûlée was delicious. Their attention to seasonality and local produce is top notch. You can tell they are excited about food and what they do. Will come again (and again).
A very authentic Italian restaurant that reminds me of my trips to Italy. I thought the outdoor seating was really cool where it was more separated and facing out. Was not cold since they have heaters. The food really reminds me of Italy since the dishes are very simple yet delicious. Not a crazy amount of ingredients and tons of flavor, instead it tastes very authentic. Thought the daily dinner special was cool. An entire page dedicated to specials. I got the special with seafood and it was so good. Great flavor and very fresh. Shrimp pasta was also delicious. Fiancée loved it! We got the calamari and chicken breast as well. Both go back to the very simple yet fantastic meals. Calamari is just olive oil and lemon. Fantastic. Cooked perfectly. The chicken was on the dry side but still quite nice. Rosemary stuffed under the skin gave it a great flavor profile. I would recommend this place to anyone and look forward to coming back.
This was recommended by a friend, absolutely loved it! Don't go there if you are looking for a fancy premium experience, but the food is great quality and the wine list is very nice. You have to call to book which I found at first being annoying and bold for New York, but it also makes it very authentic. Overall highly recommended and I will be back!
Great dinner here last night. Food is deliciously rustic and unfussy with top ingredients, vibrant flavors & generous portions (market-sourced specials esp worth considering). Well-curated, reasonable wine list, too. A bit loud and tight, but convivial with a festive buzz. Friendly, efficient service and co-owner Julio is a great host. Just a terrific neighborhood spot... reservations recommended !
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve been coming to this restaurant for almost six years, and it never disappoints! The food is truly authentic — real Italian pasta made the way it should be. The atmosphere is always warm and friendly, and the service is excellent every single time. The owners are wonderful people who make you feel like family. It’s one of those rare places where everything — the food, the people, and the experience — comes together perfectly. Highly recommended! 🇮🇹🍝
I had the absolute pleasure to dine with my best friends for my 25th birthday at Il Posto Accanto, and I could feel the love in every bite of delicious food from this beautiful restaurant. From my dirty martini to the squash blossoms, scallops, and lasagna - I felt my heart fill alongside my tummy as the night progressed. We felt welcomed and a part of the family. Thank you Julio and crew, and if you dine here - TAKE SUGGESTIONS! The food is picked and served with purpose🤍
I had a wonderful experience dining here for a second time. The food was delicious, and Julio's wine suggestion was on point. I love that the menu changes often, which provides your taste buds with a different experience each time you visit. Situated in the middle of the block, you don't get any of the avenue traffic noise, even on a busy East Village summer evening. The restaurant has a great neighborhood vibe. If you come on the later side of the evening, be prepared to see the domino table set up and a nice, friendly game taking place between some of the regulars.
Oh.My.Gawwwd. This place feels like Nonna is in the kitchen putting her love into every dish. The pasta was handmade, heavy and fresh. The food was so delicious and authentic. The selections are not basic and every bite makes you feel like you're eating dinner in Italy. Dishes are truly a masterpiece and service was impeccable. The owner came by several times and ensure we were happy and satiated.
Finally made it to Il Posto Accanto. Tucked away in the East Village, it’s is an absolute hidden gem for authentic Italian cuisine. From the warm, welcoming service to the thoughtfully curated wine selection, every detail adds to the charm of this spot. Their famous Sunday lasagna lives up to the hype—rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. Every dish we tried was exceptional, delivering that homemade, rustic Italian taste. Whether you’re a pasta lover or a wine enthusiast, this place is a must-visit. It is advisable to reserve in advance by calling them.
25 years in the game, Il Posto Accanto ages like… fine wine. This place has won me over and does so time and again with each visit. I’m a regular of several years and I only wish I learned about them sooner. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. Ricky’s recommendations and wine pairings are sublime. Julio & Bea are 1 of 1 characters and beneath all the humor and charm, they are two of the warmest kindest souls of all time. I join my best friends here at least 4 times annually for fellowship over food that never misses and a perfect vibe. I was reluctant to give away New York’s best kept secret, but this is too good not to share. You’re welcome.
Very wonderful find. This lovely Italian restaurant doesn't have an overly authentic feel , however, the food was very tasty, and the service is some of the best i have experienced in NY so far. The calamari is definitely a winner and was cooked almost to perfection and full of flavour. It absolutely did not need the additional chilli oil that was offered. The main was perfectly cooked and packed with flavour, though I would have like to have more shrimp inside . Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Though you are best to make a reservation as the restaurant is very busy. I was seated at the bar because I just turned up.
Had dinner here with a friend recently who follows the restaurant on Instagram. Not sure what to make of this place overall. One of my definite dislikes is the the selection of "cream" based dishes. I had the Cavatelli and it was cream based, my friend had the Tuna and was laid on top of a cream based lentil puree. Their menu at the restaurant doesn't fully match their menu online. They are adamant about NOT allowing you to say the word "Parmesan" or use it on anything. They charge $5 for bread (yeah I get it, some restaurants do that), but with prices already high in general at restaurants, I feel bread isn't something that needs to $5 (which included a long bread stick in this case). Their cocktail menu vacillates between basic (mostly spritzes) and overpriced ($20). Yeah, I get it's Manhattan, but there is nothing about this martini on their menu that says it should be $20. (i.e homemade stuffed blue cheese olives, etc). As an Italian, I would say this place is an Americanized Italian restaurant. Not really bad, but not really great either. It's also very small, so expect to literally sit "right next to someone". My cousin used to live near this restaurant and went here often. When I told her I was going there, she said she knew the owners from her frequent visits. When I was leaving the restaurant one of the owners (recognized from their website pic) was standing by the door. I said "Hi, are you the owner?". His immediate response was, "yes why is there a complaint?". I was expecting a friendlier response like, "yes, did you enjoy your dinner? etc...SO.......I'm going to leave right there folks.......
Calamari Fritti was excellent, very solid Italian fare. Would give higher star review except the male host was not friendly and unreasonably rude when making a reservation and coming in for said reservation. Would not come back if he was my host for that reason. Overall food was good for a family dinner.
Cozy decor and very convenient location. The food did feel authentic. The staff was not mean at all, I actually appreciate when folks really want to have a specific way that they prepare their food. The service was not at all mean but it was a stressful experience. That was the most rushed meal I’ve ever had at a sit down restaurant and there were 4 of us. We each had at least one drink, we shared 3 apps, each had our own entree, and we got dessert and coffee and were outta there in no time. The staff does try to be nice about it but I couldn’t relax with the constant “may I clear your plate?” Sometimes I was still chewing and couldn’t answer. Twice one of us still had food on the plate that we were passing around. At one point one of the servers told us to please finish our appetizers because our entrees were coming. The place is small and the tables are very close together. I got bumped into by staff a total of 7 times during our meal because there just wasn’t enough room between the tables. I thought my bag was in the way so I moved it but it kept happening. It wasn’t the same person bumping into me tho so I don’t think it was intentional, they just were in a rush. There was a lovely manager that wished us bon appetite. I thought about asking if we could slow down a little but I didn’t want to ruin my friends’ time or embarrass the friends that chose the spot. At the end of the meal, we were asked not to linger because there were other tables waiting. Everything was so fast. Some of the plates were pretty good, some were just ok. My friend wanted to try it after seeing it on a tv show or social media or something. I’m glad she got to try it. I don’t think I’d go back but perhaps on a weekday night it would be a better flow. I’m editing this to say that I’ve just read other reviews just now and the manager consistently responds with nothing but class. I respect that a lot and the restaurant industry is tough so I get it. It’s still a business and surviving in this city is brutal. I’d say just manage your expectations and you’ll enjoy it more!
Thoughtless. If I had to describe my experience in one word, that would be it. I called twice, a week in advance, to make sure my best friends and I had a nice dinner to celebrate our brother’s upcoming wedding. When we arrived a few minutes early for our reservation, the “manager” casually told me there was no record of it and that another party of five was ahead of us. At first, I thought he was joking. Who dismisses a customer like that? When I confirmed the phone number I’d called, even showing him my phone’s call log, he acknowledged it was correct but showed no concern, turning instead to chat with other patrons and staff. When I tried to have a calm conversation to understand what went wrong or how they’d fix it, he brushed me off, asking if I wanted to wait for a table or not, and that was it. Be aware!! This restaurant doesn’t take online reservations or provide any confirmation number or email. It’s literally call ahead and hope someone writes it down. Clearly, that system isn’t working! Overall, the manager on duty (a Black man wearing glasses) was rude, dismissive, and disinterested in resolving the issue or acknowledging their mistake. If you care about customer service or want any confidence in your reservation being honored, I’d steer clear of II Posto Accanto.
