Takumi Omakase in the LES was honestly one of the best omakase experiences I’ve had in NYC. Instead of a fixed number of courses, the chef serves endless omakase piece by piece for about 90 minutes, and you can keep going until the time ends or until you decide you’re full. It makes the experience feel really personal and relaxed, and every piece is served fresh right in front of you. The fish quality was incredible and each piece was thoughtfully prepared by the chef. You can tell a lot of care goes into every bite. Also a fun little perk, if you leave a Google review, they offer complimentary sake, which is a great touch while enjoying the meal. Just make sure you save some room for dessert at the end… it’s worth it. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a unique omakase experience in the Lower East Side. Dining at Takumi was an absolutely amazing from start to finish. The moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcomed. They were attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between elegant and relaxed, with soft lighting and an intimate counter that lets you watch each course being crafted with care. Every piece of fish was incredibly fresh, the textures and flavors speaking for themselves. Each bite reminded me how exceptional true omakase can be without breaking the bank. My wife and I had the endless omakase option. Highly recommended. The location is also great since it's near a lot of bars and clubs.
Started with a slightly off tone due to some seating issues, but they quickly made up for it. Staff is very hospitable, and attentive. The restaurant fits about a dozen people at the bar with a few tables by the wall. Quite clean and nice atmosphere. We got the Endless Omakase and promptly lost count! 15 course base plus Chef's Choice unlimited. Variety is good, and in particular I enjoyed the smoked wagyu, bluefin tuna, oyster, eel, and scallop with lime zest. Perfect date spot!
Been here twice and had an absolutely amazing experience both times!! Their endless omakase can’t be skipped, it’s mouthwatering!! We loveddd their: • Bluefin tuna w truffle paste - IMO the BEST bite! • Spanish mackerel w cherrywood smoke • Fatty tuna w uni (sea urchin) • Steelhead trout w crispy onions • Salmon w foi gras • Hokkaido scallop w truffle salt Highly recommend Takumi on the lower east side in NYC!!
We came here for a celebratory date night last night and tried their AYCE omakase for $130pp. We learned that it was BYOB when we got there and was able to conveniently pick up a bottle of good sake from a liquor store down the street (<5 min walk). The food, vibe, sushi chef, customer service was 10/10! The pieces were imported from all over the world and our chef, Lee, was so passionate about the quality and worked to get our belly’s full and happy. I will definitely come back here and will try their regular omakase as well!
Takumi Omakase was the first omakase experience for us and it totally delivered! The service was amazing and each bite just kept on getting better! The eel, salmon and uni were the show stoppers😍 Great hospitality and vibed, would recommed if you’re looking to eat good in NY!
Endless Omakase experience. Tasty selection, solid and accommodating service. Music is a little loud for me personally but not overwhelming to the point of being a problem. I would have liked to have more of the Amberjack(?)Seaweed Salad appetizer. The sauce was excellent. Another highlight was the black sesame icecream dessert. I would have 30 of them if possible over the fish.
Endless omakase was amazing!! Everyone was kind and good atmosphere. Highly recommend this restaurant! We ate almost 30 pieces. So full and delicious!
Amazing food and amazing staff. The chef was incredible and super nice. BYOB and endless omakase was delicious . 10/10
absolutely a hidden gem, every bite melted in your mouth. people were friendly, amazing service. highly recommend coming here, its a must try.
this was so delicious and such an enjoyable experience!! i loved every piece and the unlimited omakase was super filling.
Set course: perfect amount without feeling too full endless omakase: Great value for the quality and amount of pieces you get.. truly endless You can request what pieces you want to try again Toro with caviar melts in your mouth👌👌
Such an amazing omakase experience! We decided to do the endless omakase, and it truly exceeded our expectations. Every piece was incredibly fresh, and each course felt unique and thoughtfully crafted. It was just the two of us in the restaurant, and it honestly felt like a private dining experience. The service was amazing! If you’re looking for a high-quality omakase experience with outstanding service, I highly recommend this place.
Takumi Omakase is hands-down one of the best $89 experiences you can have in the LES. I came here with my best friend on a Monday night and every single one of the 15 courses was fresh, unique, and genuinely delicious. The vibe is amazing too: great playlist, attentive staff, and the kind of sushi that makes you do a little happy food dance without realizing it. We also got a bottle of Dassai 39 which paired perfectly and made this random weeknight feel even more special. Between the quality, the service, and the price point, this spot is an absolute gem. Can’t wait to come back!
Phenomenal experience on all fronts from start to finish. The quality of the fish was excellent, and the chefs did a superb job of accenting those flavors with careful layering of various seasonings/add-ons. The vibe was very relaxed and felt homey. The music was good and there were natural interactions between the chefs and customers. This was the best omakase experience Ive had in NYC and would highly recommend. Big kudos to the chefs and the kind waitress.
🦋 I could honestly eat this every single day. The food at Takumi Omakase was so fresh, so diverse, and absolutely wonderful. From yellowtail to shellfish, shrimp, and even beef options, every dish was crafted with so much care. We had something tailored to us based on our preferences, and I enjoyed every single bite. The chef was amazing, and the whole experience felt special from start to finish. Such a perfect spot to unwind after work or fuel up before a night out—I went at 6:15 PM and it set the tone for a great evening.
Takumi Omakase is the best affordable choice for an omakase experience in NYC. They offer a $89 15 course omakase and a cheaper and a cheaper off menu omakase for slightly less and two less courses. Each hand crafted course is meticulously prepared in front of you and explained. Everything we tasted was extremely delicious and fresh. The flavors were unique and thoughtfully constructed with flavors and texture playing wonderfully together. You can ask for the amount of wasabi to be adjusted to your preference too. Takumi also offers complementary sake which was delicious.
SO GOOD AND WORTH IT FOR ITS PRICE! The sushi bar was very simple yet aesthetic. The quality and the amount of courses (13) you get is definitely worth it for the price of $89 per person. Server is nice and so are the chefs. I was never a big oyster fan but when i tasted the oyster appetizer with yuzu cream and salmon roe beneath, i was mind blown. Definitely a highlight for me. King salmon melted in my mouth like butter. (Photos from every course below + handroll)
I recently went to TAKUMI OMAKASE with close friends and had a truly enjoyable evening! The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with a simple yet refined decor, especially the sushi bar design, which makes you feel very comfortable and welcomed. The quality of the food was impeccable; each dish was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The chef’s skills are top-notch, and the freshness of the sashimi and sushi, along with the unique flavor combinations, provided a delightful experience for the taste buds. The entire Omakase process allowed us to appreciate the unique charm of Japanese cuisine, with every bite showcasing the freshness of the ingredients and the care put into each dish. The chef introduced each course, sharing insights on the ingredients and flavors, giving us a deeper appreciation of each dish. The waitstaff were also very friendly and attentive to our needs, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant! TAKUMI OMAKASE is perfect for any special occasion or if you just want to treat yourself to a wonderful meal! Looking forward to coming back!
If you like omakase this place is must go. The price is very reasonable with 15 courses and the food is super fresh. We got seated right away. The server and the chef greeted us, and the courses started. We got our own bottle of sake 1.8L. omg, it's about to go down, lol. Chef took it to chill. About 15 minutes in, We were ready to drink, but the bottle wasn't chill, so the chef took one of their own chilled bottle and gave us instead. Super nice of them. Every course was nicely done and presented to us. From top foam oyster to eel with foie gras light flame to give the smokey taste. Everything is so good for a late meal. 😁 Definitely be back for more.
Me and my partner went for their endless omakase $118pp and we enjoyed the first few courses that came out however when it got to the “endless omakase” portion we were expecting it to be different from all the other AYCE omakase we tried because they promoted it as staying true to the quality instead of swapping the fishes out with a poorer quality which they did. But what got us disappointed was that they also said “Endless” so we were expecting to be able to request however many pieces of fish we wanted without compromising the quality like what other AYCE omakases do. Hence why we’re were willing to pay more than what other AYCE omakases were charging. But instead it was chefs choice so we weren’t able to request what we wanted we also couldn’t get however many pieces we wanted either. Total pieces I had was 32 pieces and that was within a 90min time frame which included the starting 15 pieces. Maybe for some of u guys you’d be able to get full off that but I could’ve had a couple more. A few other things that made it feel less like an endless omakase was the time constraint 90min we had a pretty slow chef who talked to the customers this meant he paused his work as he was talking so we also had to patiently wait till he stopped talking and go back to making our food. We also heard some staff say “are u almost done” to the sushi chef and they replied saying “no I have 2 more” so it felt pretty scripted to be exactly a certain amount of pieces you should be eating rather than it being truly endless. Additionally I felt like after the first 10 pieces there really wasn’t much flavor to any of them that really wowed us. It tasted pretty bland compared to other omakases we had. I did however liked the first 2 pieces we had and the squid. I understand they are still doing test trials so I hope they take this review as a way to improve and adjust. The service was ok. I liked the lighting that came from the window. However it was pretty cold inside the place or perhaps it was just me but I was freezing.
We had a 7:00 PM Friday reservation to celebrate a major milestone, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. We tried reaching out afterward through the restaurant’s website, but their “contact” form/server does not work. We eat omakase frequently, and this was the first time we’ve ever had to leave in the middle of a meal, due to food quality. At the beginning, the quality was good. However, once we reached the tuna and red snapper courses, the quality noticeably declined. My girlfriend’s red snapper tasted foul and not fresh. She nearly spit it out but didn’t want to create a scene in front of other diners. On the way home and later that night, she became ill. I also experienced an upset stomach. I discreetly pulled our server aside to explain the issue rather than mentioning it in front of other guests. They seemed shocked but not particularly apologetic when I raised concerns about the fish quality. There were also service inconsistencies. After we were served our second course (yellowtail), another server took mine back because it was missing the sauce. Apparently everyone’s was missing it, but others had already eaten theirs. Mine was corrected only because I hadn’t started. For an omakase experience, this kind of mistake is unusual — dishes are typically executed correctly the first time. Additionally, timing and service felt off. The sushi bar guests were receiving their plates immediately, while we were left waiting at our table. The overall dynamic felt unusual for omakase. While the servers were polite, the service was slow. Reservations were also confusing. We — along with other couples — did not realize we had booked a table instead of the bar. The reservation system lists “Omakase Table,” and there was no available option for “Omakase Bar,” which made the distinction unclear. Overall, a very disappointing experience for what was meant to be a special celebration.
Takumi Omakase is a place my partner and I’ve been going to for close to two years now. Its always stood out for stellar service and food quality. But, on my most recent visit everything was off, and i mean everything…. First, we had a reservation for 8:45 and were waiting twenty minutes to be seated. Then the table we were seated at to wait until our actual table was ready was filthy, to the point i couldn’t even believe and had to take a picture (shown below). If i’m paying $80+ per person for a meal with all due respect i should never be seated at a table like this. My partner is vegetarian and for the 10+ times we’ve been here in the past they always ask her what she’d want to replace the wagyu with. On this visit for the first time they decided to just pick the replacement option for her which was the cheapest option they had… Lastly, a lot of the omakase dishes just didn’t taste as good as were used to them being this may just be because the chef making the food was different then were used to. Again, we’ve been there at least 10 decently one of our favorite omakase places in NYC but they definitely misfired on every cylinder our last visit, to the point where i honestly am not sure if id want to go again i was that disappointed sadly :( P.S. I kid you not i literally had to ask the server for the finger towelette to wipe my fingers on while eating. the service is usually always 5/5 but if google gave me the option to give them 0/5 for that day i would….
I had really high hopes for celebrating a special birthday with dinner here. While the food was tasty, there were too many bumps otherwise and I left disappointed given the price point that was spent here. I made the reservation a week in advance, and an hour before I was charged a cancellation fee of $50 totally unprompted. I was already on the way to the restaurant so this was cause for stress especially because it was a special occasion. I was never refunded for the charge. When I arrived there was no host to help us and one server on the floor that was kind but very stressed. When I explained our situation she said she'd "try to squeeze us in" and had us stand there for 15 or more minutes while trying to clean and serve people at the same time. As we waited to see if we would even have a spot at the bar, multiple other parties came in complaining of the same cancellation problem. Everything worked out and we were all able to be seated but there was not so much as a "Sorry that happened, that was a mistake. You still have a spot at the table" - this place was lacking in hospitality and could have used a host or manager on the floor. Dinner service was good, for the price you get ok value with the pieces you are served. We opted for a bottle of sake and a few extra pieces at the end of our meal. They even brought out a special treat with a candle for our birthday, which was appreciated. All in all, I would not recommend for special occasions. They seemed short staffed and flustered, and I was never refunded for the unprompted cancellation. When I am spending over $300 on dinner, I expect basic restaurant etiquette and hope for even better.
