Great place! First time here and first time trying Ethiopian food. Delicious. Plenty of flavor. The ladies here were so lovely, kind and welcoming! Wrapping up my meal with an Ethiopian coffee. Stop by and have lunch here it’s great!
An all around great experience. The food was great, and customer service was refreshing. A nice location easy to access 1 block away from the train station. I had the veggie platter, tea and tiramisu. Ambiance is welcoming. It seems the neighborhood is enjoying this new addition. It's so nice to support a family owned business. I will definitely be returning.
By far the best Ethiopian in the tri-state. The food isn't dumbed down for American palates like so many other Ethiopian restaurants do. Also a very friendly and easy atmosphere.
As a native Ethiopian, you’re not going to find better food anywhere in nyc than here. Trust me. Try the doro wot with a side of shiro wot and a Habesha beer. Tastes like home and smells like home too!
A neighborhood gem - family run and always delicious! Highly recommend the vegetarian combo, awaze (lamb) tibs, doro wat, tomato salad, and baklava. The hot tea is excellent as well.
This small yet cozy spot is a great find! Delicious and authentic food only outdone by the amazingly friendly and attentive staff. Great for meat lovers and vegetarians alike! The attention to detail is evident in everything they do from the food, to the service, to the decor, and even the bathroom :) You can tell how much thought and care they put into this place, which somehow makes the experience and food even better. Even if you don't live in the area (I don't!), it's worth the trip to Washington Heights!
My wife, Marty, has been here before and did me the great favor of taking me here today, in my last hours before I turn over another year, birthday eve. OH, MY! What a gem in a still growing neighborhood. Sure there’s a couple local diners, yer usual pizza joints, coffee places, Ethiopian is sooo much fun and the food is delicious, the decor is beautiful and comfortable, the service is great and welcoming. Co’mon! Skip pizza or take out Chinese! Make tonight ETHIOPIAN! You’ll thank me later! Tell ‘em Marty and Fitz sent ya!
I can't help but smile when I think about eating here again. The interior feels high-class yet comfortable. I brought reinforcements for this meal. Capable workers who gave excellent suggestions and kept my family smiling the entire time. Nice performance! I'll be back!
My walk through the area revealed this charming little spot. The staff adapted to our dietary needs and delivered quality service. Their dishes present flavors without comparison elsewhere. They serve big portions, charge fair prices, and make delicious meals. Enjoy and good luck!
This place is an absolute gem! Wow. I've admittedly not had much Ethiopian food in my lifetime, but these kind ladies have set the bar very, very high. Some of the most thoughtful and kind service I've experienced anywhere in New York City. Even if they're busy, they make an effort to talk to you and seem joyful with every interaction. I couldn't get enough of my Vegetarian Platter--everything was so packed full of flavor. My wife has an unfortunate allergy and they were very accommodating and kind, and even took the time to explain how they make their dishes and how it differs from more conventional ones. Truly unique! And no joke, they legit make some of the best tiramisu I've ever had here. They've put a lot of effort into making it feel like you're dining in someone's home in more than one way. I can't wait to come back and try more things.
The culinary skill on display here is remarkable. The place has charm that's enhanced by warm staff. The food was tasty and waiters were attentive. The workers maintain positive attitudes consistently. This spot is exceptional and will see me frequently.
Amazing experience, start to finish. Who I can only assume are the owners are incredibly warm and friendly - it felt like coming into someone's home for supper! The food is delicious, and we were given time to enjoy our meal and socialize without being rushed out of the door (a novelty, in the US!) Addey Ababa is easily the best restaurant in the neighborhood and I suspect folks might avoid trying it because they've never tried Ethiopian food, or because it looks a bit unassuming from outside. Don't make that mistake!
Restaurant was a far drive from where I live but it was WORTH IT. Small but cozy. Got the vegetarian combo and, while I don’t usually like green beans or cabbage, those were my favorites!! The split peas and lentils were also delicious. Our server was so friendly and open. The food came out at a good pace. Plus, they have gluten free injera! For sure will go again🙂
The ambience is very casual but the service is superb; better than most fancy restaurants. The server was very attentive and seemed to read our mind before we asked. The food was all top notch as well. Ordered the Ethiopian spiced tea, the beef combo, and baklava. The tea was bold and spicy, similar to a great chai tea. The beef combo injera was absolutely delightful, with bold spice, tender meats, and some lentils too! 11/10 definitely recommend
What a spectacular find! This lovely Ethiopian restaurant has a welcoming ambiance and delicious food cooked by sisters with complementary talents — one specializes in the vegetarian dishes and one in the meat dishes. Both are perfectly spiced and served with the care that such beautifully crafted food deserves.
The staff at this Ethiopian restaurant create a warm and welcoming experience, adding to the great quality food being served. 🇪🇹 In my visit to NYC I was looking forward to dining at an Ethiopian restaurant. I visited Addey Ababa as a first timer and the restaurant definitely deserves a second visit. I have to give the staff a 10/10 for their service and kindness. In terms of the food, the restaurant can cater to both vegans and meat eaters. I ordered the Shiro Wot, a very tasty, non-spicy chickpea stew. I also had a coffee, which was delicious and needed absolutely no creamer added. High quality restaurant. I recommend you give Addey Ababa an have the experience for yourself.
We had such a great meal here this afternoon! We ordered two of the vegetarian combo plates. Every item on the platter was seasoned perfectly, and our server Martha kept the injera coming. Our favorite side was the cabbage. They don’t have coffee yet, but they do have this wonderful Ethiopian tea spiced with clove that we had after dinner and it paired sooo nicely with the homemade tiramisu. We got three to-go plates so the rest of our family could experience it too. Aside from the wonderful food, the atmosphere of the restaurant is cheerful, warm and inviting. Martha was so incredibly kind and welcoming, before we even got our food, I already knew we would be coming back. Support this local small business!!!
I came in today and asked to use the bathroom offered to pay for a meal just to use the bathroom. I had to pee really bad. I was walking an hour stopped at this beautiful restaurant playing jazz and got denied even if I would’ve paid for a meal the ladies excuse was that she has customers there that she cannot let me use the bathroom so I was wondering if I was a customer sitting would I still be not using the bathroom or was she racially profiling me? I am disgusted if I could give zero stars, I would. Disgrace
