Altro Paradiso is a beautifully decorated restaurant with delicious food and a warm atmosphere. The pasta dishes, especially the Pomodoro, ragu, and cacio e pepe, are highly praised. Some diners found the portions small for the price and experienced slow or confusing service.

The always impressive sister restaurant to Estela. It’s on the larger side vs the standard downtown squeezed-in situation… ideal for when you’re in the neighborhood and need a last minute table. The arancini, ingredient-driven salads, perfect pastas and amazing alcohol program are all a delight. The cacio e pepe is a sleeper hit.
I love Altro Paradiso. My mind forces me to try other Italian restaurants in the city, but Altro never fails. It's no longer "of the moment" or particularly trendy, but Altro Paradiso serves beautiful pasta. On this trip, I tried the Linguine al Limone. It was the best pasta I tasted in a week of dining in NYC. Service was pleasant at the bar, and I was made to feel comfortable. While I'll still try experimenting with new Italian restaurants in Manhattan, Altro Paradiso will always be the ultimate comparison. ------------------------------------------------ I am back in love with Altro Paradiso. It is the quintessential Lower Manhattan Italian cafe/restaurant. Altro will always have a place in my heart reserved. My daughter was in Manhattan for business a few years ago, alone and feeling blue. She was cocooning in her hotel room, nurturing her sadness. I phoned and, in my fatherly way, told her to get up, get dressed, and cab downtown to Altro Paradiso. She listened and texted me from her barstool at Altro. The food was great, her cocktail soothing, and the bartender was fun to talk to. Say goodbye to the blues. This time, we sat at the bar for a pleasant lunch after enduring New York’s humidity. My Piscelli salad of fresh snap peas and a unique Ricotta cheese was refreshing and unique. I want to have another Piscelli now! Cacio e Pepe was made with a thick noodle, Altro’s personal touch, but delicious. Altro has aged well as this neighborhood grows around them. It was once a “no man’s land” of Holland Tunnel traffic, not salubrious or cool. Now, it’s just the west end of Soho, as hip as Soho can be. May Altro Paradiso remain vibrant and welcoming, a soothing respite for all New Yorkers.
Awesome night! From the hostess to the staff and the food. Pretty lively atmosphere and intimate sitting adds to the experience. Our waitress was so attentive and accommodating, who also turned out to be from Montreal. Great wine selection. Pasta is amazingly simple yet done properly with quality ingredients that show when you take each bite. We had the whole dorade which felt like it was just caught the same day, so fresh and delicious, and cooked to perfection just as the pasta. It's marked as my top places for a proper pasta and an amazing vibe. Definitely will go back.
Ohhhhh waw. What a nice vibe! Very luxe, very delicious. I loved it. And had too many martinis!
The servers were very friendly and accommodated to your needs. The food was absoulutely delicious and the flavors literally danced in my mouth. I ordered a medium rare steak and I enjoyed every bite. I've never tasted anything that delicious. Beautiful interior, but a bit too dim. Overall, wonderful resturant and I would definetly come again.
There are so many modern, upscale Italian restaurants in NYC. Altro Paradiso is definitely competitive in this fierce market. Even though I came here just for meatballs, they were probably the best meatballs I have ever had. A perfect tomato sauce paired with tender meat with Parmesan shavings on top make for a pleasing appetizer or snack. The atmosphere was also amazing, along with the service.
I went for a corporate lunch and this restaurant was perfect. Great service, delicious food and the right atmosphere.
Went to Altro Paradiso last night and really liked it. I went on the earlier side so it wasn’t too loud, which made for a nice vibe. Had a spritz and some good wine — both were great. Lamb Ragu was amazing. Service was solid across the board. Would definitely go back.
From start to finish Altro Paradiso was spectacular! Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. The wine selection was absolutely fantastic with some true rare gems that you don't see often, and at a reasonable price as well. The food was stellar, we enjoyed Fluke Crudo, Fennel & Provolone Salad and the special which was a 55oz Porterhouse with Fries and Arugala Salad for three. All very appropriately priced. Overall for a birthday dinner I was pleasantly surprised and cannot wait to go back when the opportunity presents itself!
Such a good time here tonight. Thanks Tim and Eric and Damien. Great drinks and the food is from heaven, the Italia one, The Malfatti is like you wish your Nonna had made. That “pork chop“ is enough for four people and you can taste the heritage. But the wine, the Alpine red, Blaufrankisch from Abraham. Just speechless.
I really enjoy the atmosphere and the restaurant's food is excellent. The portion is just right, and the service great.
Overall, my experience here was not ideal. There were a lot of unfortunate mistakes while I was dining there. There was a lot of waiting around as well. However, I was satisfied by the way the management handled the situation and I was able to move on without having any hard feelings. The fact that all the food we had was excellent helped a lot too! Despite all, I am definitely going back to try out more of the delicious food on their menu. I just wanted to acknowledge the staff's effort and give a shoutout:))
This is and always will be my favorite spot in nyc. They have the best cacio e peppe and pomodoro, the best service, and such a beautiful space. I now go almost every week and take everyone I know here.
My favorite place ever! The T-bone steak is absolutely incredible 🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾. The atmosphere is always great too, comfortable, lively, and perfect for any occasion. I always enjoy my time here
We love AP. It’s set in a beautiful space, service is warm and gracious, and the food is spectacular. In fact, the grilled branzino ranks as some of our all-time favorites. In a word, splendid.
Been coming here since they opened in 2016 and they never disappoint. The food and cocktails are always delicious, they have an amazing wine list, the staff is wonderful, and they converted me into a fennel lover with that fantastic Finocchio. We also ofc love Estela and miss oh so much, Flora Bar.
What an amazing place and such a delicious meal!! The restaurant is all the way downtown and the area around it is nice but not crowded if you go during the weekend. One major nit was that their outdoor patio is well heated but not properly setup. My chair was at the edge of the opening and had to have my jacket on during dinner the entire time. With that said, everything else was perfect. I really liked the touch of an on table taste of the wine to confirm that’s the one we want. My wife tried a few before settling on her wine. For appetizers we got the arancini (5/5), polenta (4/5) and they served us the house sesame bread. Everything was amazing and I could eat 10 more of the arancini. The calabrese pepper sauce that comes with the arancini is sooo good. I dipped everything in it. I generally rate Italian places with how well them make their pasta al dente and how well they make cacio e Pepe. While the restaurant passed on creativity and texture on the candele pasta, I wished for more thicker of a sauce and the pasta was a bit too heavy on the pepper for my liking. Overall it’s still a solid dish and I’d give it a 5/5. For dessert we got the seasonal persimmon jam pie which was super thin and flavorful. I loved the addition of a HEAVY cream dollop that helped balance out the flavors. Highly recommend!
Updated review: Came back for dinner with my family! We ordered the polpo, candele, malfatti, Bolognese, & the cod. The bolognese was very good and I’d order it again! The cod was a bit too salty for us. Staff was very friendly but service was a bit slow. First review: Loved everything we got, especially the pasta & oysters! Our waiter was also really nice because he gave us a free dessert 💗
Tasty!!! Great fun Italian joint. Noisy but very hip. Great pastas and I loved the German sausages. All the apps are wonderful as well. Lots of fun to eat here. It seems odd to say, but the olives here were really outstanding as well. We loved this place. Check out all of our reviews. I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Altro Paradiso, and it was truly one of the most unforgettable culinary experiences of my life! Every dish was a masterclass in simplicity, sophistication, and bold flavors, with only the freshest ingredients used. Standouts included the Finocchio, Milanese Di Vitello, branzino, spaghetti pomodoro, polpo, and arancini - each one a testament to the chef's skill and creativity. But what truly elevated our evening was the exceptional service and expertly crafted cocktails. The tequila melon infused sorbet and chocolate torte were the perfect finale to our meal. Special thanks to AGM Damien and our incredible server John, who went above and beyond to make our night truly special. If you're looking for a must-try destination in Soho, look no further than Altro Paradiso. I cannot recommend it enough - don't miss out on this culinary gem!
New American style Italian spot where everything is done just right - good ambiance (day and night, bar and dining room), consistently well executed and curate menu with seasonal ingredients, nice wine selection, reasonable price, friendly service, and easy reservations. Other than their ricotta spread and pasta, highly recommend the charcuterie plate, grilled fish, and their silky panna cotta and very dark chocolate torte.
Arrived early for a 12 o’clock reservation on a Saturday and they were able to accommodate adding an additional 2 people. Service was quick and the staff were very kind. Was a little warmer than we needed. Arancini were very good and great to share. Spaghetti pomodoro was more flavorful than a simple red sauce. Cacio a Pepe was absolutely the best dish. Didn’t love the mela spritz and was a little disappointing that they couldn’t make a Bellini but the mimosas were delightful. Would recommend coming with a group of friends, was a lovely time!
Super fun private event for our sons May wedding. Staff, food and atmosphere were great. We may have to throw a late February event every year because people were in a mood yo party.
Went here with friends and cute atmosphere. Service was nice and quick… and spacious location. Went with a friend— enjoyed fennel salad (dressing was amazing) as well as some pasta dishes ( had the staple carbonara). Enjoyed wine as well as tiramisu which was so so good. Cute classic Italian spot and really good quality- really recommend
Excellent food and drinks! I had the rotolo and a spritz rosa. So good. Staff is very kind and attentive without being too crowding. The restaurant is clean and pleasant to be in. Had a wonderful time here with my friends, next time I’m in the city I’ll be sure to come back!
Such an incredible vibe here. Everyone is super nice, especially Grace. The food was not only delicious but the service was truly out of this world. Will definitely be back. I’m gonna be dreaming of the Pomodoro.
Amazing food and staff. My fiancée and I had our engagement dinner here. The ragú and cacio e Pepe lived up to the hype. The large portions of both were plenty for two. Lastly for dessert, we were a bit disappointed they were out of tiramisu, Our waiter, Sekou, made our night extra special with the mango sorbet and panna cotta. Both delicious.
Stopped in for drinks and a snack and had a great time! Tim was an excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable bartender. The Manhattan Beach is a great cocktail with tons of depth. The appetizers we ordered were light and delicious. A touch on the pricey side, but well worth it.
Altro Paradiso checks all the boxes. Superb food, attentive but never intrusive friendly service, warm atmosphere, inventive delicious cocktails, and approachable and thoughtful wine list. The sommelier was also warm and friendly and is clearly passionate as well as knowledgeable about wine and he took his time to explain the history of each wine he recommended and what makes it so special and how it pairs with each plate (many of which we have not seen anywhere else). The Caio e Pepe is the best we have ever had and beats any version of this dish we have had in Rome. How they prepare a basically three-ingredient dish so beautifully is nothing short of magic. The same applies to the other dishes on the menu that we have tried. Simple, fresh ingredients that Italy is famous for, prepared beautifully with just the right balance to enhance the flavors both individually and as a whole. Altro Paradiso makes the whole experience seem effortless, and we always leave feeling happy and taken care of, looking forward to our next visit. Delizioso!
I took my family here as an end cap to a European vacation. We started with bubbles, a delicious mocktail, and arancini. We followed with incredible pastas, chicken, beans and salads. We had an Olympic finish with incredible desserts and Amaro. It was a perfect experience from start to finish. The service was flawless-super caring and charming, and the food was both simple and dazzling. This place is perfect for an easy dinner, a special occasion, business or pleasure, solo or in lots of wonderful company. Not pictured is the family asleep in the cab on the ride home because they were so relaxed.
Had a fantastic dinner at Altro Paradiso. The food was exceptional—especially the shrimp carpaccio and the buffalo mozzarella with anchovy and broad beans (mind-blowing!). The pesto pasta with roasted chicken was great too, and we loved the homemade ricotta and dark chocolate gelato for dessert. Service was friendly and attentive. The only downside: the restaurant gets very loud, so maybe not ideal if you’re looking for a quiet spot. But if you’re after great Italian food in a lively atmosphere, this place delivers.
A really gorgeous restaurant, beautifully decorated and relaxing to sit in. Great staff. Stand out meal of the week esp tuna tartare, steak for two and rhubarb dessert. Knowledgeable sommelier and our waiter Miguel was brilliant. Such a good experience we went back the following night. Expensive restaurant but the quality lived up to the cost and it was a super night out.
Big prices small portions! Ordered pappardelle with ragu. $34. Was told it would be hearty. Was green, with some lamb chunks and several strands of pasta. Partner ordered a dish that was served in a bowl with a bigger rim than the food. Left hungry. Not sure if they want you to order the Secondis, but at these prices could we have a little more food??
Great pasta spot in a pretty restaurant. Nice bar in the front and appreciated the NA cocktail options. Overall, service could have been more attentive, and the portions are small given the price point. 5/5 fennel salad- light, refreshing, crunchy 5/5 cheese & meat plate - good variety, silky smooth pate 5/5 lemon pasta - simple but executed well 3.5/5 mushroom pasta- sauce was salty but the pasta itself was great 5/5 tiramisu - large portion
I love this restaurant! The maitre de with the dark curly hair is always such a treat and handles everything with such grace. The food is of course excellent, but she really makes the restaurant worth coming to.
Fennel salad and Arancini balls - strongly recommend. Pasta dishes are very good. Desserts are average specifically Tiramisu
Escaped the soho shops for a Friday lunch and very much enjoyed. The pasta was spot-on (all varieties!) and the tiramisu was pretty darn good. Funky layout means you need to land on a table that works....which we did get (after a move)…..but once settled this restaurant made a very positive impact - a little gem!
Two of my friends recommended that I come here for lunch. So I did just that. My husband and I ordered 2 kinds of pasta. Both were delicious, but it is important to note that the portions were rather small. The service was great, except for when I asked for a blanket because it was extremely windy outside and was told that there aren’t any. I think having blankets is rather basic but important in case the guests get cold and can’t be seated inside. Aside from that, I enjoyed the place
Review for Tock: Pick up Valentine's day menu only. Originally had a reservation for 6:30 pm for pickup which I had the restaurant push back to 7:00 pm due to a scheduling conflict. Arrived at the restaurant at approximately 6:50 pm and was told to wait outside the restaurant as the order was not quite ready. At 7:05 pm the hostess comes outside and apologizes for the delay and offers a complimentary glass of proseco as a consolation, nice touch. I finish the glass while I continue to wait for another 10 minutes in which my food, wine and flowers were delivered into my hands. Food and packaging look pleasing. 4 courses in total, appetizer is a citrus arugula salad very refreshing and light. Onto the 2nd course a cappelleti pasta dish - a but heavy but delicious. For the main course we got a roasted lamb chop and grilled artic char dish both very delectable on their own right. After the main was finished we were quite stuffed, will save the dessert for later possibly add the review for the dessert on a update. Wine package came with an ensemble of Italian wines, one red mix, one white and a bottle of bubbly. I would recommend this restaurant for a nice date night or romantic evening. Would go back and try the other dishes another time.
Food was pretty good. Scallop crudo was meh but the arancini were delicious. The swordfish was good, but the polpo dish really stood out. Cocktails were tasty too, the speciality martini was delicious.wasmy wowed but we had a nice time.
Their food is great, but a bit pricy. We paid $110 per person (not including drink) and we were still hungry, so I guess we need to spend about $150 per person to be full and $200 if we add drinks. It was great except they made us sit in the middle of the isle when there were other tables available. I made reservations about 1 month ahead and was not happy for the seat. They changed eventually for us but the first seat already ruined our Valentine’s Day mood 😥
I had a lovely brunch at Altro Paradiso recently, and it was quite enjoyable! Food: The dishes were both creative and flavorful. I tried the avocado toast and the ricotta pancakes, both of which were delicious. The fresh ingredients really made a difference, and I appreciated the presentation. Service: The service was friendly and efficient. Our server was attentive and checked on us regularly. However, there was a brief wait for our food, which could be improved. Atmosphere: The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a modern yet cozy feel. It’s a perfect place for a casual meal or a small gathering with friends. Overall, I’d recommend Altro Paradiso for brunch. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu!
The food is amazing. The T-bone steak is the best in NYC. The sides complimented the steak well. The service on balance is very good. There is a main dining area with a bar area sectioned off by a low wall. We were seated on the bar side of the wall. I had an issue being seated by the kitchen and bathrooms when there were multiple tables available in the main dining area. Go to appreciate the food. Be aware of where the host seats your group.
Our reservation was at 3pm. Didn't get seated until 3:30pm, it was very busy. From start to finish we had 4 different servers which was a little confusing. The service was quite slow. The food was very good. We really enjoyed the octopus salad and the arancini. They ran out of the chicken so we got the skirt steak which was very delicious as well. The affogato wasn't great, but the vanilla custard was very enjoyable.
Altro Paradiso is a very expensive restaurant. We spent $200 per person. For this price point we expected a phenomenal experience. It did not deliver! Service was below average: here are menu’s, let me know if you have any questions” then leaves for 15 minutes. Wine is marked up 2x on retail; we spent $120 on an entry level Chianti Biggest complaint was the portion size for the price. Very small portions at a premium price. Pasta was the best but very small portions. We spent $400 for two people and left hungry. We will not be a repeat customer.
I’m not sure if they were running low on ingredients today, but the portion sizes—especially the proteins—didn’t reflect the price point. The lamb shoulder, in particular, seemed to be no more than 2.5 ounces. The burrata in the burrata appetizer was almost non-existent. And while the food tasted fine, it wasn’t anything memorable or exceptional.
This place was okay. The highlight was the bread and ricotta, if you are going here definitely get the bread and ricotta. The rest of the meal fell a bit flat. The wagyu burger was a little busy and unharmonious in terms of flavor, too much happening. The spaghetti fell a bit flat. Atmosphere was nice, lots of space, and service was good.
I am a regular at this restaurant because I love the food; However , The times I have called to try to make a reservation the person that picks up the phone is really Rude and Disagreeable. I would expect somebody who knows how to work in the field of service And attention to clients.
Nice room exceptional service outrageous corkage 75$! Great fennel salad sub par pasta offerings all the way around underseasoned and not very warm.
I normally never leave reviews for places, no matter how “eh” they are, but this is one I feel was especially disappointing. When we ordered food, we simply did not get bread. We had to ask for it— and ask for refills once it was empty for our party of four. For a restaurant of this caliber, skimping out on bread? Yikes. The food was good, although the portion sizes were a little small. The hake was the highlight; flavorful; and the pasta was cooked to perfection. Our primary problem was our server. She greeted us at the beginning, came to check on us once, and only came to us again when we specifically called her over. Because of that, paying for the bill was an absolute pain. Not only did it take forever to get to us, but it also took forever for it to be processed— despite it being clear that we were a tired family of four ready to head home at 9:45 PM. Imagine our surprise when we got up to go to the restroom or looked around, and she laughing and serving other guests cordially. Was it because we were dressed too plainly for a Michelin guide establishment? I’m not sure. But we’ve dined at places of the same, if not worse caliber, and have received far better service for this price tag. If you’re looking for something a bit more worth your money and your time, move on.
The atmosphere was inviting and exciting, but the waiter’s attitude was disappointing and noticeably affected the experience. We ended up asking to have our untouched pasta packed to go, purely out of respect for the chef.
It's definitely not as good as the ratings say. You would think, because of the limited selections and over priced menu, their dishes would be more delectable and memorable. Definitely had better Italian fare at less known neighborhood restaurants.
We had a mixed experience here with the food, however the service was good. We started with the finocchio fennel salad which was the best thing I ate all day, the dressing was superb. The arancini was crunchy with good flavor but it was served cold, which we didn’t like. Chicken Milanese parmesan was huge and tasty enough. Pasta cacio e pepe was decent. The biggest disappointment was the dessert. The pear galette had a super salty crust that was challenging to eat, perhaps it should have been an appetizer. The meringue-ata cake had a weird texture and was basically inedible. It felt like biting into butter, not in a good way. I am glad I tried the restaurant but don’t think I will go back.
Food was pretty tasty but portion size to price ratio was completely lopsided unfortunately. +30 for 5 bites of pasta. We were situated in an awkward position as well. Basically a two top in the middle of every server walking behind and hitting out chair. Seemed like a restaurant obsessed with revenue maximization. One and done for us.
The food itself was fine, but the service left a really bad impression. We were only ordering a few small dishes and the server immediately looked annoyed, her demeanor going icy. She even said, “That’s all you’re getting? Umm oookay,” and then left. The place wasn’t busy, and we were just enjoying drinks and small bites, but she made us feel completely unwelcome. It was unpleasant from start to finish.
The food itself was good, but the overall experience was disappointing. The menu wasn’t explained at all, and it felt like you were expected to already understand it. Portions were extremely small for the price. After paying a $115 bill with $155 cash, I was called two blocks away and accused of not paying. They never followed up with an apology or confirmation after checking. Very unprofessional and left a bad impression.
FYI I’m giving 2 stars not because quality of food was bad. In fact you have great ingredients, however your chef can’t use them properly. It is incredibly weird for me, that you cannot make a simple pasta dish. I ordered a squid ink linguine and I was so disappointed. Pasta itself was slightly overcooked , which is already a big no, but the worst was a lack of salt and a huge amount of chilli. I could taste cuttlefish and basil, but it should have had a hint of garlic, plus in this kind of restaurant you shouldn’t be adding salt yourself. Prices are expensive so food should always be on point. Unfortunately a nice ambience and a decent service isn’t enough for me if you pay that much money.
This is my first ever 1 star restaurant review and while I didn’t really want to write this, I waited until the following day and still feel it’s necessary. This was the worst service I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant in my life. So much so i literally left in tears because i felt like it had ruined my boyfriends birthday. I brought my boyfriend here for his Birthday because he had been wanting to try the famous cacio e pepe. We got seated at the worst table in the entire restaurant. It was a 2 top table that they must have thrown in there for extra seating because it was surrounded but other larger tables and was literally in the walkway of all of the servers. It took 14 minutes before any server even acknowledged us. He came by and quickly took our drink order then we didn’t see another server for another 10 minutes after that and it was a different guy. He didn’t ask us what brought us in (i didn’t have the chance to say it was for my boyfriends birthday) and didn’t explain the menu at all. We order a meat plate as an app that came with cheese and bread and when my boyfriend asked if we could get bread instead of explaining that the $30 dish we ordered comes with bread and olives already, he put in an order for another bread that came with all of the same things. Neither of us realized that we would be charged for the bread. After our appetizers came we literally never saw a server again until the dishes were cleared and we were waiting for entrees that took another 20 minutes to come. A table of 4 next to us came in 40 minutes after us and had eaten and paid before our entrees even came. By the time our pastas came out we took 1 bite and asked them to wrap them up so we could leave. Never felt so invisible and awful at a restaurant in my life. $200 and many tears later i can’t say i reccomend this restaurant for anyone going for a special occasion
What a strange and disappointing experience. Walked into this pretty restaurant with a pretty bar to get a drink and a small plate or 2. That is where the "pretty" ended. We arrived at 3:55pm and noticed that apertivo hour started at 4 so we asked about a couple of choices from that menu. We were told that the kitchen was "in transition" and that menu was not available right now. Things got worse after that- I ordered a cosmopolitan & a seltzer with cranberry for my friend. After some whispering and climbing around behind the bar,, I was told that they were out of triple sec and there is actually a shortage of it in the city. I asked about Contrieau instead and got a nasty I don't have it. How about a splash of lemoncello? Really??? Sounds quite nasty. Could have offered to make a drink similiar to a cosmo with the ingredients on hand, but was offered nothing so I settled on a vodka & cranberry. At first sip, was tasting noting but pure vodka because it had not been mixed. My friend got up to get a straw for me at the end of the bar and the passive agressive bartender said "I can get you whatever you want, including straws". Well, apparently whet he couldn't get us was a decently made drink and some good customer service. Those 2 behind the bar gave off the strangest, unwelcoming vibes and so passive agressive. Needless to say we didn't order anything else. We felt extremely uncomfortable being there and couldn't wait to leave. Would never return and would not recommend to anyone.
Don’t try it. It doesn’t worth it in sum. I mean the main dishes aren’t even good enough for finishing it, and we reserved a table for 6, they don’t have any tables suitable for more than 2. Although the table are so tiny even for 2 persons. Needless to say, serving, cooking, and everything else with this restaurant are not acceptable.
The menu is very limited. We got the chicken (pollo arrosto)and was too salty with lack of any other tastes. The pappardelle pasta was also not delicious and very disappointing . Not recommended at all.
Unfortunately, the pasta was not tasty at all, and the portion sizes were very small for the price. Even the cocktails were noticeably smaller compared to other places. Overall, it was not a good experience and I wouldn’t recommend it.
Very bad experience with the service. We were served by a young, tall, blond waiter who was quite rude and unfriendly… When we arrived, he didn’t even move aside to let us pass comfortably to our table, even though his coworker asked him cordially to move several times ... Moreover, when we asked him about the menu, he lied and said that the fries were homemade when it clearly weren’t. I believe a restaurant is about more than just the food service and attitude matter, too and this was RESLLY BAD.. The food was fine, decent, but nothing especially worth recommend in and definitely too expensive for this “experience”..
The main dishes are so bad that we didn’t even finish it. Although the appetizer quality is good but the quantity is disappointing. FYI, no burger for dinner. Even though the menu range around $35 to $50, you’ll easily pay around $70-$80 a person.
Our family is from Uruguay and we wanted to try this Uruguayan - Ignacio Mattos’s restaurant but if he had been there last night, he would’ve been ashamed. They apparently had a private party but allowed reservations after 8:30- unbeknownst to any of us who made reservations. It’s Funny, when we called saying it was for a birthday they didn’t warn us whatsoever. We entered and it was so insanely loud with wealthy drunk folks and so cold because the private party wouldn’t leave but kept the door wide open. Those of us who had reservations were told to wait it out. Why? Why did they allow this? When we asked to move to another table we were told we were only 2 for a 4 top yet four other 4 tops had just couples sitting at the 4 top tables- turns out they were all VIPs so they got the preferential tables. There are only about 10 total tables so this was strange to us. When the tall blond young manager came over he said, yeah sorry yeah there’s nothing I can do about the VIPs - which were just people who knew an employee… so we got up and left. It was to be my birthday dinner at 9pm… and we had to leave. Too cold, too loud and that we were treated as less then others. I hadn’t eaten a bite and we didn’t think we to have a backup restaurant for a 46th birthday dinner after 9pm. I’m incredibly disappointed and dismayed. It ruined our evening and my birthday. Sadly I will tell everyone of this experience. And by the other reviews you can see others aren’t having great experiences either. We arrived here for a 6:45 PM reservation for my husband's birthday celebration with his family in town from London. Our server was pleasant but she did take a long time to check in between and during courses. We ordered plenty of food and it was fine. Pasta was good, my husband thought the chicken was bland and nothing special. We enjoyed the salad appetizers we ordered. The real kicker for us however was when the stone- faced manager - who never smiled once all night- came over to our table at 9:30 PM and asked us to leave because they had other reservations. We had spent plenty of money, we weren't drunk or rowdy and we had literally just paid the bill. I have never in my life had a restaurant ask me to leave the way this one did. The fact that they claimed it was for reservations is laughable considering it was 9:30 PM and the crowd was winding down. Does she think they're Corner Store? It's laughable. Will never go back. That's not how to treat your guests.
We dined here recently to use a Chase restaurant credit in December. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. Our server was very curt and didn’t return to take our entrée order until we had already finished our appetizers. After that, she disappeared and never checked on us. The busboy, however, was very pleasant and attentive, keeping our waters filled. Someone who appeared to be the manager checked in on us, took our dessert order, and ultimately rang us up. Once the bill was settled, our server reappeared only to ask when we would be leaving. The food itself was fine, and the tiramisu was excellent, but the service didn’t match the warm, welcoming ambiance one expects from Altro Paradiso. Perhaps it was an off night, but overall, I don’t think this is a place worth going out of your way to dine at.
We had guests with us, and the restaurant was really disappointing. The cocktails were tiny, the portions were small, and the food had almost no flavor. The prices didn’t match the quality or portion sizes at all. The chicken was completely tasteless(basically boiled with a ton of salt and then deep-fried!!), the meat in the pasta was also strange and had a strong, unpleasant smell.
I booked a reservation for one by calling ahead and was explicitly told a table was available. When I arrived, I was informed that no table had been reserved for me and that I would need to wait “a good while,” with no time estimate provided. After leaving and returning about 20 minutes later, I was eventually seated, but the experience never recovered. Service was inattentive throughout; I had to repeatedly flag down a waiter just to ask basic questions. The menu is also extremely limited for vegetarians. None of the mains were suitable, and only one appetizer met dietary requirements. While the cacio e pepe was genuinely good, that alone does not compensate for a disorganized reservation process and poor service. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone dining alone, vegetarians, or anyone who expects attentive, quality service with their meal. At most, solo diners should expect to be directed to the bar rather than accommodated with a proper table.
