This place is super busy over the weekend and you can see why - they have an excellent selection of brunch options and the service is highly efficient. The golden folded eggs and the Mushroom Toast with soft scrambled eggs on the side were both excellent. The tangerine ginger tea was also very good. Highly recommend!
Banter’s dishes are as delicious as they are beautiful. The avocado toast, topped with perfectly poached eggs and a hint of chili, was an elevated classic, and the ricotta pancakes were a dream—fluffy, rich, and topped with fresh fruit. The menu strikes the perfect balance between indulgence and healthy options, so there’s something for everyone.
We went to Banter for breakfast and absolutely loved it. We ordered the avocado toast and the Nutella French toast, both were outstanding. The grain & seed mix on the avocado toast adds great texture, and the nut crumble on the French toast takes it to a whole different level. Definitely a flavor we’ll be craving again. Highly recommended for a special breakfast spot!
Simple but executed very well. Their dishes don’t need to be modified at all in my opinion and every flavor is perfectly balanced. Seating is a little tight but to be expected in Downtown. Service is relaxed but very attentive which is the perfect middle ground I feel. The fried chicken sandwich was perfect, not heavy at all and well balanced. Poached eggs and hash browns were perfect. Technique wise, it rarely gets better than this.
Loved this place for breakfast. The food was very good and they had great tasting coffee. We got here for an early brekkie round 8:30 and the place wasn’t full and quiet. Highly recommended if you’re in the area looking for a delicious high quality breakfast. The food was fresh and very tasty.
A very enjoyable address for brunch. The employees are very polite, the prices are affordable. The location is also very convenient. I definitely recommend it. I had avocado toast and it was delicious. We ordered the sweet potatoes. Falafel wrap was also very delicious. Recommended for a pleasant brunch. 10/10
One of my favorite Greenwich Village Brunch Spots! It’s cute, cozy and delicious food at a reasonable price! It's typically packed, so ensure your group arrives together or you might not find a seat unless everyone arrives! They have outdoor and indoor seating perfect for spring and summer! As far as I recall they don’t take reservations so you have to walk in!
As this place has good reviews, I expected more. Food was average, small portions. I had an avocado toast with poached egg and avocado on the side and it wasn’t spectacular. Chai latte is ok, coffee not so good. When the waiter see you put your last bite in your mouth, he immediately takes plate and asks if you want something else or a recipe. I find it rude. I didn’t finished my coffee. It’s breakfast time and wwant to take it slow. It’s ok option if you’re close by and don’t have time to look for better option.
I saw great reviews for this place & wanted to try it with my friends. We had to wait a while for a table for 3 (1 hr 40 min). Luckily we were in a busy area and had time to wander before we got our table. I ordered the Salmon toast and espresso martini; my friends ordered the BYOB (build ur own brekkie and a chicken burger. The food came out fast and drinks right after. The salmon toast was gorgeous. The right amount of everything. They added pickled onions and the right amount of dill. So good. They were also surprisingly generous with their salmon (better be for the price!!!). It's crowded in the restaurant, but the seats were cozy! I wouldn't visit again since nothing really stood out to me & there are a ton of other brunch places in the area -- but it was a good experience and nothing was bad.
Banter Layout/atmosphere *Tables; two seat window counter; covered outdoor dining structure in the street Food/drink *Cappuccino - OK *Banter Big Breakfast (two poached eggs, bacon, halloumi, roasted tomato, mushrooms and sourdough toast with tomato jam on the side) - solid; wasn’t a fan of the jam
Banter offers a delightful brunch experience with a menu that showcases modern takes on classic dishes. The Omelette, Golden Folded Eggs, Pumpkin Matcha latte and the Nutella Stuffed French Toast are particularly noteworthy. However, it's worth noting that the noise level can be quite high during peak hours, which might not be ideal for intimate conversations. Despite this, the friendly staff and quality offerings make Banter a worthwhile visit for brunch enthusiasts.
During a recent trip to NYC, we were delighted to be recommended this charming spot for breakfast—and it did not disappoint! This cozy, hygge-inspired café was the perfect place for a late morning meal. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the friendly staff and seated at a quaint little table. We took our time exploring the menu, brimming with intriguing “Brekkie” options. Ultimately, we opted for the classic Two Eggs Any Style and the Bacon & Egg Roll—a hearty sandwich packed with fried egg, crispy bacon, pickled onions, tomato jam, and garlic aioli, all nestled in a fresh ciabatta roll. There was even an option to add mashed avocado, which sounded tempting, but the sandwich was already so generously filled! Honestly, it was so substantial that it could have easily been shared. To accompany our meal, we ordered lattes that arrived beautifully adorned with intricate latte art. The atmosphere was made even more inviting by the walls adorned with paintings by local artists, a thoughtful touch that showcased and supported the creative community. Outside, a well-shaded seating area offered plenty of space to enjoy a leisurely breakfast without feeling rushed. It’s the kind of place where you can truly relax and savor your morning. We’ll definitely be returning the next time we’re in NYC!
⸻ Overall, this is a charming and low-key spot with friendly staff, but the menu and food quality left a lot to be desired. While the menu states you can get eggs “any style,” egg whites aren’t an option, a surprising and inconsiderate oversight for anyone watching their cholesterol, especially given how easy it is to accommodate. The grilled chicken was completely bland, with no seasoning whatsoever, and the hash browns were clearly just frozen patties that had been reheated. As a military veteran, I recognized the scrambled eggs as powdered, a detail that might be acceptable in a chow hall, but not at this price point. Coffee options were also disappointing, with limited sweeteners and no liquid options for iced drinks.
Visited about 10 am on a weekday. Got seating after about 10 minutes. When visiting their homepage, they have a slogan all over the place "delicious + healthy". That may explain the flavours I felt. I had french toast, that tasted "too" healthy for my preference. The texture of the french toast was as if made with multi-grain bread and the overall sweetness was low. I think it is better to have other options than the sweet one's for more flavour. The latte did not taste good.
Hands down the worst French toast I’ve ever had. Calling it “Nutella French toast” should be a crime unless Nutella rebranded and changed their recipe cuz it tasted like some off brand chocolate spread. There was also barely of it in the French toast, just a thin sad smear like they were rationing. And the granola on top made everything so much more dry and chalky and was a terrible random match. I don’t go into the city for brunch often at all so this was a major let down.
We were exited to try this spot based off of the reviews we seen but it didn’t really meet our expectations after trying it out. Most of the food we received were frozen goods instead of being fresh. The place is pretty small so it just feels kinda awkward having someone in the front staring at customers constantly. Wouldn’t really recommend this place. The only thing we somewhat enjoyed was the music and chai.
CHANGING MY REVIEW FOR THE SECOND TIME FOR AN EVEN WORSE REASON. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS RESTAURANT. IVE SPECIFICALLY ORDERED EXTRA SCRAMBLED EGGS AND DEFINITELY DID NOT RECEIVE IT. I KNOW WHAT EXTRA EGG LOOKS LIKE BECAUSE IVE ORDERED IT BEFORE. THEY WERE ALSO VERY CHEAP WITH THEIR SALAD THIS TIME. IM NOT UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUE BECAUSE I WAS A LOYAL CUSTOMER, SEEMS AS IF THEY ARE PURPOSELY DOING THIS TO ME. THEN THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO NOT HAVE A PHONE NUMBER, THEY ALSO DONT GET BACK TO PEOPLE FROM THEIR REVIEWS!!!!! DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!!! I AM GOING TO MAKE A VIRAL VIDEO TO WARN PEOPLE OF THEIR LACK OF CONSIDERATION TO CUSTOMERS AND TO NOT EVER ORDER FROM HERE OR DINE IN. THE AUDACITY OF THEM!!!!!!
