Anibal was amazing server and attentive and kind and I will be back again because of this !
This was our first dining experience in NYC. The food was great and margaritas even better. Overall good experience with friendly staff and good music.
A mix of excellent foods from all types of cuisine. There are tapas and non-tapas options. It's a sister restaurant for Calaveras - an excellent Mexican restaurant a few blocks away - but Calaveras Corner is definitely not a Mexican restaurant. We had the potato soup, burger, and fish tacos. All were superb.
Excellent service. Delicious food and signature cocktails 🍸. We watched the European soccer final and they made it a great weekend experience. Thank you so much for being so attentive and professional. Will be back SOON
Great new Tapas place in the neighborhood. Roasted brussel sprouts are a must. The chorizo with naan and portobello mushroom work great also. Our waiter Jorge couldn't have been a nicer guy!! Super welcoming. Great guy.
Food is ok it can be better. The service is Great all the waiters are nice and friendly!
Best tacos I have had in a long time. Great service and lots of drinks. Highly recommend!
Angel is an angel the chips and guacamole are delicious and the passion fruit mojito is a must. LGBT friendly and woman friendly. Highly recommend.
Highly, highly recommend. Great drinks, great food, great ambiance and the staff is super friendly. It’s become my go-to neighborhood place!
We went here to celebrate my birthday. We felt like we were hanging out with old friends. That's how cozy the atmosphere is.
I had the Enchiladas and they were delicious! Great atmosphere, too!
Best place in the area for Mexican fare. They have a solid Taco Tuesday deal and a good happy hour too - but my favorite order is the molé.
New little gem! Food quality was amazing for the price and service was exceptional!! I recommend the crab cakes and chorizo with naan bread
Food was excellent, Bess is the best server!
Overall the experience was really great. Anibal is the best bartender on the UWS
best service, drinks, and food. come here to have a great time :$
Been there several times for different events. They are clean, had good service and recommend others!
Good Food, Great Service, Fair prices
Everything was great!!!! Loved the Piña colada. Great food and music. Great attention
Great drinks, food is fresh, amazing service.
By far the best authentic mexican i have ever had! We walk 80+ blocks just to enjoy the atmosphere and the food! fantastic seating, service, and family energy! Not too many TVs so you don’t feel distracted and rushed! Will come here 1000X if i could!
I ordered a takeout order here, but accidentally sent it to the wrong location. The staff went above and beyond to make sure I got the order & they had a staff member deliver it from the other location. The fajita quesadilla was definitely one of the best quesadillas I’ve ever had, and I’ve had many in NYC + beyond. It’s a good lunch deal as well given that it includes rice + beans. Will def be back here for a sit down meal soon :)
From the Carnitas to the Birria through the Tapas choices. The food was fresh and delicious. It's a small place, but there is heated seating in a fully enclosed patio. The service was five star. We will be back!
Taco Tuesday, sign me up! This place charges $20 for 3 tacos and a margarita, not a bad deal! The tacos were tasty (I got the Al Pastor) and they didn't skimp on the meat, which is a huge plus for me since I eat a lot. The margarita was also pretty good but on the "three sips and you're done" size. They also have one of the better guacamole I've had in the city. The chips and guac were really flavorful and they gave you more than enough guac for the amount of chips. I hate going to a restaurant where they give you 400 chips and one scoop of guac...am I really paying $20+ for 1/25 of an avocado! If you're in the area and in the mood for some tacos, swing by next Tuesday.
I went to this place during storm Henri. Lovely wooden outdoor patio dining. Fun music. Nice manager. Sweet waitress. Happy clientele. Got a burger that was served with potato fries and fresh lettuces, red onion, tomato, and a pickle slice.
Delicious foods (quesadillas, fish tacos, chicken tacos, chicken wings, chips and salsas) and they were brought out efficiently and well presented. Servers were super friendly and welcoming. Great place for group events.
Nothing to say except, Taco Tuesday, strawberry margaritas, and queso fundido. Just amazing 5* all the way.
We love this place! Food is always delicious and service is fantastic. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and the space has a great energy!
My friends and I loveeee Calaveras. I love how they’re a late night spot with great food and amazing!!! Service. We always have a great time because of the good energy and the drinks are 🔥
Great drinks, authentic food… definitely order the ceviche. Great spot for lunch, date night or late night
Only ate dinner once here during the first week it was open, and it was good! Wanted to go back for brunch today but they don't open until 12 - I found it surprising that they have a brunch menu but open so late. Either way, still 5 stars from the time I was able to eat there!
Bartender was great. Food came out super fast. The brussel sprouts are some of the best I've had. Fair prices. Wish they gave free chips & salsa.
Calaveras Corner is my favorite spot in the neighborhood! They recently partnered with Demitasse and so I tried the new breakfast and coffee menu this weekend -- everything is delicious. Try the Colombian breakfast or the breakfast burrito for a flavorful breakfast/brunch option, and the blueberry muffins and Nutella croissants for a sweet pastry on the go. Plus the staff are always incredibly friendly and welcoming. I'll keep coming back.
The chicken nachos and margaritas are so delicious! The waiters are so friendly, this is my go-to spot for a good time and some delicious drinks!
Yes. Make plans to go here. Drinks, food, service, location. Fantastic. Watch the world of 106th & Amsterdam walk by as you enjoy great food in a great setting. Indeed/outdoor make it happen. Red sangria, chicken fajitas and the nachos. Also the various margaritas are on point.
Was very delicious, nice cozy place. Will definitely come again!
Pretty decent food open late if you’re in the area
Top notch food, service and drinks! This was my second visit and will be back again.
Super cozy vibes and great food and drinks! Came here for new years and had a blast. Also have come for the brunch which is super great! One of my absolute favorite spots for margaritas
Calaveras is our local Friday night dinner spot. We dine here most weekends and always get the loaded nachos a round of (skinny) margaritas and quesadillas. The staff is fabulous and always makes room and food accommodations for our kids.
Finally a place that feels great! The food is just an explosion of such amazing flavours which have been balanced and honed by a good chef. The three tapas for $30 is such a killer deal. We had the mussels and chorizo, the octopus and shrimp dish, the calamari and the pastor tacos and boy was everything was such an experience! So delicious! And the portions are so perfect! Our host was such a pleasant gentleman who just made the experience fun and homey!
All you people are asleep when it comes to this spot!! This has become my favorite. Not only is the food amazing and fresh! The drinks are fabulous! My favorite is the The One from Oaxaca margarita. A Hibiscus margarita that does not disappoint! This spot is cozy and intimate. The staff is the friendliest and service is always on point! Anibal was our server this evening and he so attentive! Everyone here is so attentive and fabulous! Oh! And the music is great!!!
New spot on UWS, located where The Ellington used to be. Good setup for both indoor and outdoor distanced dining. I can tell they are still tightening up their operations, and woking on their liquor license (only beer & wine for now). Overall, the service was friendly and the food was tasty. I had the All American Calaveras burger, which was a good sized portion and came out quickly. They also did a good job of checking everyone's temperatures as they were seated. I'll give them a month or so to smooth out their operations before I return.
The tortilla strips use for the salsa and chips were ideal for getting that perfect ratio of salsa or guacamole in every bite! The quacamole was a meal on its own. Great vibe, cozy, fun.
I love the food, the service, and the giant Nachos, Which Are Available all day. The enchiladas are perfect.
I am so happy with every point of experience here. Delicious food, delectable drinks, friendly and interested service. Great atmosphere. ❤️
Can a great operation be extraordinary in only a couple of details? I think not. That’s why I am giving 5 stars here. My specific experience tonight is one cocktail and one appetizer. But both are write-home-about good. I have a bit of regret that I eat only so much in a day because I believe all the food here is likely beyond the ordinary. So skip my novel. Order the fried Brussels sprouts. Resist licking the plate.
We had the Roasted Cauliflower and the Big Nachos with Guacamole. Both really delicious!! A bit noisy but well worth it!! Thoroughly recommend.
My new spot! We were a party of 4, seated outside. Drinks were very tasty. The shared appetizers were wonderful. The staff was attentive and entertaining.
Had a delicious meal here sitting outside as a group of 5. The Ceviche, Brussels, Birria Tacos and Shrimp were my favorite. Also great margs and for $10 during happy hour, a great deal. I had the creamy mango. Our server was very attentive and funny. We almost didnt get our second drink order in before the end of happy hour because she had to deal with a customer on the phone named Elizabeth who kept blaming her for issues she was having with the online ordering platform despite it being totally out of her control, but alas she still was able to help us out and make our meal memorable! Get a life Elizabeth!
We just moved from the East side of Central Park. I’d heard about the restaurant but thought it was East Side. We went quite late to have a few drinks and a snack. We were served by a delightful young lady called Bess. The chef brought our food out (I had shrimp and sweet fried plantain) I regret not finding this place beforehand. Our cocktails were expertly made (I didn’t get the name of the bar person) and shots were generous. Low lighting was nice. They have large tv screens for games and news. There were a few other parties coming in. We left at about 2am and would have stayed had we not had guests arriving. We will definitely be back. Hoping Bess will be there as she was great at suggestions on the menu for me. Totally worth at least one visit. Limited parking at night (I’m tee total so driving isn’t an issue).
This place reminds me of home, and I'm glad I was able to find somewhere that serves great-tasting, traditional Mexican food, with a modern twist, so far from home. They also have a great selection of drinks. Depending on the time and day it can get busy, I went for brunch on a weekend and they had available seating. The atmosphere and overall vibe also adds to the positive experience.
Came in for taco Tuesday and ordered the special. 3 tacos of your choice (minus shrimp) and a margarita. It was delicious. The drink packed a punch and the tacos were well seasoned and garnished with all the typical things. The staff is amazing as well. Very friendly and attentive. I prefer this location over the Columbus Ave location tbh.
Good food and drink. Nothing special, however it's a solid place
Friendly staff who were quick to take our order and helpful edith dish descriptions and recommendations. Drinks came a little slow but the food was pretty quick. Food is good and not outlandish in price.
Good burrito! That said, the drinks and food at this place are about 25% more expensive than my usual favorite Mexican restaurant, Nina's Burrito bar, so I'm not sure I'd come back. Also, it was too loud inside to have a comfortable conversation.
Celebrated Cinco do Mayo with friends there. Had wonderful drinks specials and eats. There's dining inside or outside. A bit small on the inside but never the less comfortable.
The birria tacos were delicious. Guac was also so creamy and tasty. Chips however were stale. I liked the staff. The margaritas ($15) were overpriced for the taste.
The food was overcooked and a bit salty. I ordered the calamari was as tough as shoe leather. Plantains overcooked. Otherwise, it is very reasonable meal.
I wanted to love this place, i really did...BUT...went here for brunch with a group of about on a rainy day. There really werent any diners when we came. out of 9 of us, about 6-7 had errors with their food. Either the food wasnt cooked to specification or the sides were on the wrong plate, or they gave pork to a person who specified no pork. They were gracious and kind to change the errors. The atmosphere was cute and the drinks were amazing however.
tl;dr nice atmosphere, confused concept, okay food. I believe that when the owners of this place envisioned what it will be, they thought, "let's make a place where everybody can find something they like". And so, they serve dumplings, and tacos, and chicken wings, and pasta. And just like that, without noticing, they accidentally re-invented the American staple that is... the diner. But, at least from my dining experience there, none of the food is "specialty". It's palatable and generic. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad. It's really decent. But this is not where I would send you for "fish tacos" ($9) nor for "thai red curry" ($19). It's a good place to visit if you really want American and your friend really wants Italian (or Thai, or Mexican, or Chinese, or French, or Spanish). But the food almost certainly won't blow your mind. At the end of the day, this place has a really nice atmosphere with decent food. Not for me, but maybe you. P.s. I do feel somewhat bad for posting a non-glowing review when I know so many businesses are struggling, but I do think my experience may inform future diners for the better.
Was very excited to try this place given the great drinks and eats at their Columbus location. While the food was decent, the brunch pace is very slow. Spent quite a long time just waiting for drinks and then a longer time for food. I did enjoy the sandwich presentation of the chicken and waffles.
Went in for lunch with my toddler. Great vibes, great music, and the food is amazing! The Cucumber Agua Fresca is delicious and refreshing. I definitely recommend! The downside was that the employees were not attentive. They hovered around the bar talking amongst themselves across from where I was sitting and I waited way too long for the check. There were only two other tables being occupied and a woman sitting at the bar at the time.
While I wanted to really to like this restaurant I had a few issues. The first being we asked for corn tortillas and got flour, they fixed it. The carnitas were over cooked and dry. The plantains were really good as well as the chips and guacamole. I just would have liked the whole meal to be like that.
Had a nice evening here with friends. Staff was very friendly (Brian). The food was not good. I ordered a burrito that was tasteless and some of my friends ordered quesadillas ( the same ones), but the flavors were not consistent. One of them was so salty, they couldn’t finish it. Nice place for drinks and maybe snacks.
3.5 stars rounded down to 3. We went for an early outside dinner on a beautiful summer evening. I was happy to find out that this place is owned by the same people that owned The Calaveras on Columbus Avenue and 107th St., which had been on my list for a while. I had a strong Creamy Mango Margarita while we waited for the food. We had 4 tapas ($36). By far, the winner was the large-portioned fried calamari. It was lightly fried with a soft texture. Also very good were the meaty Thai Chili Wings which had a nice charred flavor with the standard Thai sweet chili sauce. The dense crab cake had the wrong sauce. It was suppose to be mustard aioli, topped by cilantro leaves. I think I got the bland chimichurri. The Grilled chorizo was a disappointment; the chorizo was over cooked, thus dry as was the naan. The mild but nutty manchego cheese, melted/then cooled, was a strange accompaniment. The Arrachera tacos were not what I was expecting. I was expecting marinated steak grilled and then sliced, instead I got sliced meat, marinated and then pan fried so it seemed braised vs grilled. The meat portions were somewhat generous but we could have used a double tortilla. With so many places around, I would come back for outside drinks but not anytime soon.
Food was bland, drinks weren't great, service was terrible. Very understaffed.
This is probably the blandest Mexican food I have ever had. If you are looking for flavor, look further. I got a Birria Burrito and it was quite bland. My partner got fajitas and again no flavor. The atmosphere was neat and the service was friendly but the place did not have the bit of a good Mexican restaurant.
What was good: chips & salsa, margaritas, the staff were friendly What wasn’t good: fish taco was mushy and smelled off; salad was boring and had very or no dressing. Prices are way too high for quality and quantity of food.
Good okay , fajitas didn’t come with hot sauce in to go order
soggy fish tacos. bland steak tacos. no salt in the rice and beans. don't know what's going on here but it used to be much better. also expensive for what you get
Went on a Friday, the atmosphere seemed good for other patrons but I walked in was not greeted and sat at the bar unattended for 15 minutes while 2 other parties walked in were greeted and sitted then served. Could be because they were sitting at tables but I always assumed the bar was a little quicker service I guess I'm wrong. I've had better margaritas a little too tart for mt taste. The bartender (young lady) was not friendly and it came off as maybe an attitude but did not greet with a hello or hi. Guess it was her break time. I may try again with more people another time I hear the food is good.
Me and a friend went here for lunch. The guac and chips were good so was my margarita. What threw everything off was the shrimp tacos, they had no flavor. I felt like I was eating tortillas with vegetables. Also the waiter never came back to ask if I wanted another drink or to give us the check. We had to go inside to pay. No bueno and not worth the 80.00
Ordered takeout, they delivered the wrong food, and they don’t pickup their phone. They use some shitty ordering app but the customer support chat on that doesn’t work either. Will be doing a chargeback since they don’t even have a way to contact them, and will never order delivery from them again. The food they DID deliver was pretty mid.
The worst online ordering experience. Missing food and what did come was inedible. DO NOT order from here.
They cancelled my order but didn’t inform me or the delivery service. An hour later I call to figure out what’s going on and all they can say is ‘I don’t know what to tell you.’ It’s now two days later and they still haven’t refunded me, so I’m out near $100.
Mediocre food, overpriced. Wouldn’t go again. Location is good, but will probably go out of business if they don’t step up.
I had lunch there a few weeks ago and it was great. I went today and it was horrible. The ceviche was weird and sour in a bad way, the chorizo was boring and the wings should have been cooked a little differently so the skin wasn’t chewy. The burrito and the steak fajitas were bland. Literally no flavor. Complete waste of money.
I recently visited Calaveras Corner, a Mexican restaurant located in 949 Columbus Avenue, and unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. The ambiance was nice enough, but the food quality was disappointing. The flavors lacked the authenticity and vibrancy you'd expect from Mexican cuisine. Additionally, the dishes felt overpriced considering the mediocre quality and portion sizes. Overall, while my visit wasn't ideal, I hope the restaurant takes this feedback constructively to enhance its offerings.
Let me tell ya that they're racist the manager tried to hold my receipt hostage(hence why it looks so rough) and say "don't come out if you're broke" meanwhile they're the one charging prices that's not even on the menu and not disclosing full transactions. I also found out they added a 7.40$ that I didn't solicit and somehow hid the tip section/part from me. They put whatever prices they wanted, they overcharged for drinks. Mind you we sitting there like what's taking him so long to close out the check (the server aka employee on receipt) NOW WE KNOW WHY but Thank you now I'm gone get the whole transaction disputed with my bank. STAY AWAY from this business they're very shady and mad because people didn't like their food. We had ordered nasty plain chicken quesadilla no seasoning and fish tacos, took one bite of each and didn't like it. Told them to return it we don't want it and would like plantains instead(never got those btw). Server gone say you didn't pay for the food. That's their reason and defense here ya, so that means charge however and whatever you feel that's ILLEGAL. I mean we were the only people of color there but damn. Now I'm gone let all my followers on all my socials and platforms to know to NEVER TO DINE HERE ‼️
