Came for the pancakes. Stayed for the salad with chicken katsu which was seasoned well and cooked well (juicy). Their kimchi soup was good with the grilled cheese, and sando. Desserts were great too. Would highly recommend. Definitely get a resy or come here and put yourself on waitlist. On lunar new year aka a Tuesday at 2:30pm, still had to wait close to an hour.
We came here based on the recommendation of our daughter for "best pancakes" and the Golden Diner did not disappoint. The pancakes were indeed fluffy and delicious. They were so good that I forgot to take a picture of them before eating... Located in a lively and artsy neighborhood on the southern edge of Chinatown, the Golden Diner has a great vibe. Friendly and efficient service. Breakfast items are served until 5 pm which is great. Reasonable prices. But be prepared to wait for a table since the place is small and very popular. If you have some time to pass before your table becomes available, I can recommend a visit to the nearby Management art gallery on East Broadway.
I was finally able to snag a reservation here, and I now understand why the wait times are so long lol. The honey butter pancakes are absolutely divine and by far live up to the hype, I’ve never had a pancake melt in my mouth like these did - they’re somehow both fluffy and creamy, and the honey butter syrup isn’t overly sweet, balanced with just a little citrus from the yuzu. I also got the chicken katsu sando to save for lunch the next day, the red cabbage slaw was perfection and balanced out the saltiness of the katsu and sweetness of the sauce so well. I’m so glad I finally got to try this place and enjoyed it so much that I had to write an actual review, Golden Diner exceeded my expectations and is well worth the commute and wait times. Highly recommend!
I love breakfast. I judge breakfast joints HARD. Especially "diners". Golden Diner pulls it off exceptionally well based on the first visit. Eggs were perfect consistency, not dry/rubbery and not wet or undercooked. Asked for crispy bacon and they listened- perfect bacon and a lot of it. Breakfast sausage links are hit or miss for me- some of them are so thick and coarsely ground that I cant eat more than a bite, but these were...well, perfect. And...the "home fries"? Okay, to be frank, they are not home fries. They are more akin to hash browns or really, smushed tater tots, but they were SOOOOOOOO good. My dining partner loved their pancake, super thick and cakey. Good coffee. Good service. Clean bathroom. Biggest complaint/criticism- the glasses of OJ are tiny and overpriced considering thebsize, it was like $4.50 for 2 glugs of OJ....yikes. water glasses were similarly child sized. Dont like that, but will just get water // immediately ask for "extra water" immediately next time (never had to ask for extra water before in my life)
Golden Diner is worth the hype - especially the Honey Butter pancakes and the Korean Fried chicken wings! We also ordered a pancake with the berry compote, but the honey butter glaze that they come standard with is absolute perfection on its own. We (my brother - he’s the real MVP) arrived close to 9 to get in line and we were told we’d secured a table for our party of 4 for around 10am. About 30 minutes later we got a text that our table was ready, so we rushed back (we were within a 5 min walking distance). Not only was the food incredible, but every staff member was kind, friendly and it felt like they were genuinely happy to be there. We wish we would’ve ordered more off the menu as what he has was phenomenal, but there’s always next time. Get there early to wait in line for a table, or have a really cool brother like mine who will do it for you. :)
The hype is real. Absolutely go here, the pancakes are delicious and have a unique taste thanks to the buttery sauce and lemon zest and unique cooking method. The staff are super friendly, we arrived early for our reservation and despite being super busy they made room for us early. Paid around $20 for tea and pancakes. Worth every dime. Make sure you secure a reservation weeks in advance . .
Honey butter pancake was so worth the hype! Definitely the best pancakes you will ever eat. However they were incredibly sweet, I ordered a single stack and only managed to finish about half of it. Also do order the berry compote with it since it complements the dish very well. I was able to be seated right away at 9AM on a weekday solo. Do arrive before they open to make sure you won’t have to wait in line too long.
Food was amazing, be prepared to wait because the food is so good you may wait an hour or two before you receive a text to be seated. I normally don't care for pancakes, but the honey butter pancakes they make set the standard high and changed my mind! I travel and these are hands down the best pancakes I've ever had. You receive your food fast, the staff is very friendly and from what I saw, you can't go wrong with any menu item. Highly recommend
The pancake lived up to the hype! If you're going solo I'd definitely recommend the single stack because it's already pretty big. I did not have to wait at all for a seat at the counter at ~11am on a Thursday as a solo diner. I didn’t try any of the other dishes but the pancake itself was stellar! Texturally, it was next level. Soft, squishy, rich, and decadent is how I would describe it. It's denser and heavier than a typical soufflé style pancake, and less egg-forward, but still impossibly fluffy and soft. The batter is nicely seasoned, not too sweet but still full of flavor, and the salty, dark sweetness of the honey maple butter ties everything together. The lemon zest is also a nice touch, brightening up the dish without steering it too far away from its flavor base. I will say though, while I did like the berry compote, I don’t think it was worth the extra $4. It was a nice topping to have but the pancake was already more than delicious enough on its own. If the compote was a bit more acidic I might recommend it, but the way it was I wouldn't suggest paying for it personally. All in all the pancake was really awesome, and I think it would be a shame to miss it while in NYC! (If Golden Diner is too crowded apparently they have a sister restaurant called "Golden Hof" which serves a very similar pancake... I haven't been there yet though so I can't say).
I came here with 2 of my friends before the doors opened at 9am we arrived around 8:20am and was second in line and we was really excited to try the pancakes, it didn’t disappoint at all! It is hands down the best pancakes I EVER had in my entire life. Man 10/10!! I got the blueberry on the side. A double stack, eating one stack of pancake made me full but I recommend coming to golden diner with an empty stomach. This is worth every penny !!
I’ve heard people talk about this place and of course it’s all over social media. Today was my wife’s birthday and this was the place she HAD to try and it was WELL WORTH IT ! Food was absolutely amazing and the customer service was incredible as well. The wait was pretty long so if you’re coming by, it’s best to have something to do while you wait. But it’s worth the wait ! Pancakes and fried chicken and we also got the breakfast burrito. Everything was delicious 🤤. The server we had was amazing too, super nice and friendly and very accommodating. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SPOT !
We haven’t tried their other dishes yet, but we ordered the pancakes with berry compote, and they were honestly the best pancakes we’ve ever had! My boyfriend is extremely picky when it comes to food, and even he couldn’t stop saying this place is the best pancake spot. We’re definitely planning to come back soon just for the pancakes :) ❤️ It feels perfect for brunch, breakfast, or even a light dinner!
On a Saturday morning after getting there early (about 9:10) we checked in with the hostess staff at Golden Diner a little after 10 and were told we had secured a table for 4 which would be ready in approximately 50 minutes. Our group was ELATED. After about 30 minutes we received a text indicating our table was ready. After hurrying back we were promptly seated and greeted by our server. We ordered a double order of plain pancakes, a single blueberry pancake and an order of the fried chicken wings. Everything we ate was as delicious (if not more) than the hype had led us to believe. The chicken was seasoned and fried to crispy perfection with a slightly sweet and slightly spicy flavor. The pancakes were easily the fluffiest I’ve ever eaten and the flavor was pleasantly sweet. Every staff member we encountered was helpful and pleasant and our food arrived hot and fast. My only regret is that I didn’t order more from the menu. Oh well, until next time.
Obsessed with Golden Diner. The pancakes 1000% lived up to the hype. I love pancakes and expected them to be good, but how good can pancakes really be? OMG... THEY ARE AMAZING The salad was great, and so were the wings and the breakfast burrito. We shared everything and the portions are generous. It’s a small, cozy diner with a great vibe and really nice staff. Make sure you book in advance so you don’t miss out! we reserved a month ahead and it was absolutely worth it.
Pancake & the Egg&Cheese Sando was 12/10 Thai Tea tres leches cake 5000/10 Place is packed and people wait in lines even before opening. The Staff handels that very well! We got a table on a nearly set time (45 Minutes after half an Hour in the queue, so def fine for such a popular place) Waiter was friendly, but definitely focused on changing tables fast (we can understand that). We would come here again! Greetings from Germany to the whole Golden Diner Team.
Actually SO good. 100% recommend making a reservation in advance - we could only get a dinner res as breakfast/brunch fills up instantly. Service was 10/10, waitstaff was so friendly, and the meal came out quick. The space is small but ambiance is lovely. Pancakes were everything we wanted them to be and more, and the other dishes were great too except the quesadilla was a touch too salty. I need to come back here for brunch one day!!!
This was a very cute place work only about 6 tables (that's why reservations are so tough). Everyone was so nice and welcoming! The waitress was on point with her discriptions of the food! We enjoyed our food throughly! So much so my husband and nephew were ready to go back the next morning.
A lot of fun - we took the kids here and had a very nice meal - exactly what you'd want from the concept - somewhat high end comfort food with an Asian twist. The burger and breakfast sandwich were delicious and the wings were crispy. We liked the fries better than the home fries. Got 1 pancake for dessert and that was enough. The vegan Caesar was ok.
TLDR: Nothing can prepare you for these pancakes 🤤 Put our name down on a Sunday afternoon as a walk-in and checked out LES while we waited for our table - pretty seamless process, only took 1.5hrs. Can’t believe the pancakes met the hype and then some. Berry compote was unnecessary / too overpowering - you should enjoy the pancakes unadulterated. Fricken divine. Wings were also fire, but katsu sandwich was over-breaded and not that amazing imo. Yuzu palmer was great. Decent ambiance, solid service.
lined up 45 minutes before opening on a sunday morning to join the waitlist, and the wait was about an hour long for a party of 3. definitely worth trying at least once, since the food was quite good, and i’d recommend getting the largest allowed party size (6) if possible so you can try more dishes. my favorites were the chicken katsu club sandwich and the breakfast burrito - both were such a great blend of flavors
We saw a huge line around the block near our hotel and it just prompted us to take a look, after looking at Google reviews, we noticed it's a very popular brunch spot! The pancakes were really nice and fluffy! The Korean friend chicken was very crispy and saucy but honestly it wasn't needed, the pancakes is what's worth mentioning! I highly recommend coming to line up pretty early if you want to try it out! (Like 9:45 AM is good enough) Don't worry about the line, it goes quickly if you're EARLY but you'll be added to the wait-list if you come around 10:30 AM - this takes way longer and not recommended if you're starving
Walked in on a Monday afternoon without a reservation and ended up waiting around an hour and 40 minutes for a table—be prepared for a queue! We got the famous pancakes and the chicken katsu club. The pancakes were super fluffy and buttery, exactly as expected. They are, however, very sweet. If you aren't a fan of super sugary dishes, you'll probably find them too much. It really depends on your taste! The Chicken Katsu Club was perfect for me. It was the right blend of juicy katsu chicken, crisp cabbage, and savory bacon. Definitely hit the spot. Overall, a solid spot for diner classics with a twist, just know what you're getting into with that sweet tooth!

Nice staff and great food. This place gets busy so be prepared to wait a little while when NYC is at its busiest. We will definitely go back next time we’re in the area.
Sunday brunch in China town. Pancakes outrageous. chicken katsu club delicious. Will go back for sure to maybe try breakfast burrito, burger or Ruben quesadilla.
Food was delicious. Small restaurant, but they have a good amount of heated outdoor seating so we did not have to wait. I ordered the egg sandwich with sausage. Came out looking and tasting great!
We went for the viral pancakes and wings, left with an over hour wait! We actually ended up ordering carryout, so we didn't leave empty-handed. The pancakes were true to their hype, fluffy and thick and very tasty, but the honey butter was a bit over the top. Regular maple syrup was the move for me. Very very filling, so get the single if you are ordering other food. The Korean wings were crispy and very delicious, and pretty big. But the kitchen shorted us 2 wings as well as the daikon. Also had the Green Tea Coffee Cake and the Thai Tea Tres Leches dessert. Both were very average, say 6/10. Overall, I'd give it a 7.5 to 8/10, with the wings being the best overall.
Food was delicious! Their wings were crunchy and saucy ufff so good. We went for the pancake and it was great thick and drenched in that honey lemon syrup! Very small interior very cozy! Service was nice they were polite and attentive!
The pancakes are the real deal here. But is it worth the wait? We were told an hour and it took 1.45 Mins in a Tuesday at 1 pm. Thats a long wait we experienced 4 entrees and the pancakes. The burger was good but not great, the egg sandwich was good on GF toast but had better, the chicken Katsu sandwich had an interesting twist and the fried chicken tasted like Korean fried chicken. Overall the place had good vibes and was well thought out but the lines on an off day were outrageous. So many food choices, prices were decent and a strange location. But this is Nyc.
I actually had no plans to go to golden diner the day I dined in but was walking around Chinatown, just coming from a bakery and I saw the line forming right before they opened. I decided to stand in line and give this place a try. I dined solo so I only had to wait 30 minutes for a spot. Ordered the honey butter pancakes and a cup of tea. The pancake is very good. Fluffy served piping hot. The honey butter on there was a nice touch and not too sweet. Service was good and very attentive and friendly. Personally….I would not stand in line for this place again. While the food is solid, it is nothing original or one in a million. While I was leaving, I heard the wait for a table for 2-4 people was up to 4 hours. Insane (this was the weekday too). The restaurant is small so they are doing the best with what they got.
Golden Diner has a unique twist on pancakes that’s definitely worth trying at least once. The texture is interesting — slightly chewy and firm on the outside but soft and thick inside. There’s a hint of saltiness, though it’s not overpowering, and the flavor and texture remind me a bit of a lemon pound cake, with a subtle lemon aroma. It tastes rich and buttery, so I imagine it’s quite high in calories! The chicken katsu sandwich was decent — pretty much what you’d expect, nothing extraordinary. Overall, it’s not a place I’d wait a very long time for, but if you manage to get a reservation, it’s absolutely worth a visit.
I was suprised by their pancakes, they were so good, a little bit crispy on the outside and soft inside. The sweetness was perfect. I also like their sparkling oolong lychee tea. We got good service as well. I recommend to reserve in advance because the restaurant was so packed. The atmosphere was cute and cozy, a little bit hot inside when we were there. But overall, it was good experience dinning here.
We had breakfast on my birthday here and I loved it! Making a reservation in advance is highly recommended. We managed to do it and all went smoothly. The pancakes are amazing, but so much that you can easily share it with two people. The chicken wings were tasty as well. Friendly staff, chill vibe, overall good experience!

Probably our expectations were too high? But it was disappointing. We didn't have a reservation, so we tried walking in to see if we could get a table on a weekday. We were glad that we only waited around 45 minutes. We tried the double pancake with berry compote on the side, Korean fried chicken wings, and chicken katsu club. I’m not sure if it was a bad batch, but the pancakes were dry, and we ordered the compote on the side so we could try with and without it. The berry compote made the pancakes a little bit better, but without the berries, I don’t think that we could finish the pancakes. The chicken wings and katsu club are okay and ordinary—nothing special.
