My brother and I loved our respective veggie burgers!! The patties had so much flavor and the fries were just right!! I loved the Harlem Shake draft beer! His red shake however did not taste like red velvet at all, that was our only complaint! Besides that a lovely atmosphere with live music if you are in to that sort of thing :)
Harlem Shake isn’t just a clever name—it’s a full-blown flavor party with a retro vibe that hits hard and leaves you craving more. This spot is all about big flavors, bigger personality, and no apologies. Let’s talk burgers. These aren’t your average fast-casual patties. Harlem Shake’s burgers are smash-style perfection—crispy edges, juicy centers, and layered with just the right amount of melted cheese, tangy pickles, and special sauce that’s actually special. The “Hot Mess” burger is a must if you like a little chaos with your bite—it’s spicy, saucy, and wildly addictive. But the real showstoppers? The shakes. Thick, creamy, and unapologetically decadent. Each one is made with Blue Marble ice cream, and it shows. The Red Velvet shake is basically dessert royalty—sweet, rich, and topped like a sundae that went to fashion week. Whether you go classic or wild, these shakes aren’t just drinks; they’re an experience. Harlem Shake nails the throwback diner feel without feeling like a gimmick. It’s where old-school cool meets bold, modern flavor. If you’re in Harlem and not stopping here, you’re doing it wrong. Go for the burger, stay for the shake, and come back for both.
Stopped in on MLK day before hitting a local museum. This was our absolute favorite meal the whole two weeks we spent in NYC. The best food, beautiful atmosphere, and the staff is wonderful. Definitely recommend stopping in.
Went for the first time on my first trip to New York back in 2017. Came back again on my second visit just recently, and they haven’t changed a bit — thank God for that. Still top-quality burgers in a top-quality spot. A real old-school joint that stays true to its roots. They keep it 100%, even though they’re pretty well-known now. The burgers just hit different — the sauces are next level, everything perfectly balanced. Took my girlfriend there thinking she’d just like it — she’s not even a big burger person — and she ended up loving it. Easily her favorite meal of the whole NYC trip.
This place felt like a hidden gem. I was surprised to say the least. My kids enjoyed it they say it’s one of the top smash burgers in the city. And I don’t think I disagree. It was well put together didn’t get to greasy bun was perfect. I truly enjoyed it my kid had the shake also and he loved it I’ll definitely be back here again
Was in Harlem for an extended visit and had lunch at Harlem Shake. I loved it so much that I took the family here when they came up from Maryland to join me. I grew up in Harlem and I am excited by all the great restaurants that have opened up over the years. Harlem Shake offers up some great diner food with a Harlem twist. The first time I was there I got the Harlem Classic and that was really good. The 2nd time with the family I got the Hot Mess Burger (Pickled pepper and bacon relish) and the girls got the chicken tenders (Fly Child). The Hot Mess was great and the girls loved the tenders and fries. I would rank it as one of the best burgers that I have had. I also got a watermelon cooler which I would also recommend (if you like watermelon). The staff members were really friendly and the experience was great. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. I would highly recommend you check it out.
We had a lovely experience here. One small mishap was corrected. My child ordered a chocolate shake, but received a mocha shake. When she mentioned that it didn't taste right we were able to get the shake swapped out. Burgers were good as were the shakes. Staff is kind and welcoming. It had an old school diner feel to it.
Had such an amazing time at Harlem Shake! The service was great as well, the staff were very accommodating and helpful. I throughly enjoyed everything I tried there! The watermelon punch tasted just like a piece of candy. The lobster was so fresh, and the bun was so soft. I loved the tanginess when added some squeezes of lemon juice. Their burgers are astounding. The meat isn’t too heavy and their special sauce adds so much flavor to the burger as well. I loved the addition of the onions which most burgers don’t have. I dined in with my family and we sat outside enjoying the nice summer weather and Harlem atmosphere. 10/10 definitely recommend. There’s something for everyone on the menu!
Harlem Shake totally lived up to the hype! The jerk burger was bursting with flavor, the milkshake was rich and wonderfully thick (just the way it should be), and the curly fries were crispy, golden perfection. Add in the cool retro vibe and friendly service, and it’s the kind of spot you instantly want to come back to. Comfort food heaven in the heart of Harlem!
Just had Harlem Shake and it was so good. The food always hits different fresh burgers, crispy fries, and the shakes are on another level. One of those spots you go to when you want real flavor and a good vibe. Definitely a place worth stopping by if you’re around Harlem. 🍔🥤🔥
Harlem Shake was absolutely delicious! I went there on a Saturday night and was pumped that it wasn’t too over crowded and that I didn’t have to wait forever to get my food. We ordered at the counter and then grabbed a booth inside - and got to see a lot of great signed photos of celebrities and entertainers who had visited this location along the walls. The decor was straight out of a 1950s burger shop and the food was so good. I got the regular burger and fries and The Harlem Shake - a red velvet milkshake that was incredible. My friend got the yam fries that were even better than the regular fries! Highly recommending going to this place when you’re in the area! If I lived nearby I’d be getting takeout or delivery from here all the time!
Havent had a shake in about 15 years. This was amazing...im gonna pay for it but damn wow. My only issue with this place is that I didnt know such cheap straws existed...you just gotta think about taking a sip from these Harlem Shake straws and they crack in half. Hot mess Burger and fries was great signature taste and blend of meats.
While visiting we decided to stop here for lunch. I got a beef smash burger and my husband, turkey. The burger was pretty good. I was told the turkey was good also. We got fries on the side. My sweet potato fries were actually cold. I really didn’t feel like going back up there so I just ate a few and ate my husbands fries, he had regular ones. Constructive criticism, I would suggest a better system of calling your customers. I mean, idk if that’s a staple thing for the establishment to yell the names, but just sitting there observing, people do not hear their names especially when they were sitting outside. Nevertheless, if I were in the area and wanted a burger, I would stop by.
Got a classic burger and fries here and they were fantastic. The burger was a smaller portion but honestly the perfect size and tasted fantastic. I also got a red velvet shake and it was okay, but not worth the price to me. Service wise, the employees were nice but it took a long time for my food and then my shake to come out.
The food was good. But buyer beware the “classic hamburger” comes with mayo and cheese. I ordered my wife the classic hamburger thinking it was Lettuce tomato but no, this ruined my Saturday as my wife had a complete meltdown over wasting money here. I ate most of the food myself - it was pretty solid. Wish the big menu was more descriptive
I visited Harlem Shake in late September and early October 2025. I’ve always walked by this restaurant while in the area and always wanted to try it. I finally decided to give it a try. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by staff. From the moment we walked into the establishment I loved the atmosphere. We waited about 5 -7 mins in line before finally getting to the register. Once we placed our order the representative at the register flipped the screen to ensure our order was accurate. I think all restaurants should do this to ensure the accuracy of customer’s orders and also to ensure food is not going to waste. We decided to dine outside at first, I was concerned I wouldn’t be able to hear my name. But they were loud enough for me to hear outside. I also received a text message when my order was ready. During my first visit I ordered a cheeseburger and the C-dog which is a grilled hotdog with sauerkraut and mustard. I requested it well done like the burger. The burger was absolutely delicious and grilled to perfection just the way I love it. My hot dog was also grilled to perfection my only complaint was they put too much mustard on the hotdog which made it drown out the other flavor and also really mess. They also stacked a whole bunch of sauerkraut on the hotdog that I had to take some of it off. I decided to try a milkshake since people raved about it. I had the Black & White and my aunt had the cookies and cream. Let me tell you they both weren’t good save your money. I ended up washing down my food with the water I was carrying around. My aunt also had a Froze I wasn’t a fan of it as I’m not a drinker and it solely tasted like straight alcohol. When I visited again in October, I ordered the Classic Fried Chicken Sandwich and it had absolutely no flavor. I only tasted black pepper. It was too bland for such a chucky piece of chicken. I was very disappointed. I don't think I'd order this again. I ordered another hot dog but forgot to say I wanted it well done. It was okay this time they put the right amount of ketchup but again way to much sauerkraut. I decided to try their Shirley Temple Soda. I’m warning you now do not order this. If you’re like me expecting the Shirley Temple you order at a bar/restaurant this isn’t it. I don’t know what this taste like. The store accepts both cash and card. It’s also accessible via public transportation. I say give it a try.
I liked my experience overall at this restaurant. The service was nice. The wait for food was a little long but I didn't mind, it was pretty busy in there. I loved the retro vibe of the place, super cool! The bathroom had a cool design as well, but it was a long wait as there was only one. I tried the mama's fried chicken sandwich, curly fries, and vanilla milkshake. All very delicious! Unfortunately I couldn't try the red velvet milkshake since they ran out of ingredients. They had a live band playing outside too, that was fun! It was a little more on the expensive side, but not overly so. I would definitely come back to try other things from the menu.
While the food is really good, the service is really bad. I would rate the food a four out of five and the service of one out of five. I got their hot mess burger in addition to their french fries. The burger was exceptional. It had sweet, relish, as well as really crispy and savory beef. It was a perfect ratio of ingredients and was super fresh and flavorful. The fries were also really exceptionally great. They were perfectly fried and had so much flavor. The reason this place only gets three stars is because the service was terrible. When I got there, it took at least 15 minutes for any of the workers to decide to help me. Several of them looked my way with distain, and would not come over to help take an order. Once I did place my order, they still were very unfriendly throughout the entire experience. Personally, I would only order food to be delivered from here to avoid interacting with the staff.
