One of the best Szechuan places I've been to. 😋 loved everything about it. Even the pineapple juices that we ordered. We ordered each with different levels of spice since my friend isn't as tolerant 😂 I definitely enjoyed more of the food. Felt like a fatty... 😌 Definitely going back for more. First time having beef tendon in chili oil like that. Each piece looked so pretty and perfect~ loved it the most 😋 I think we could have shared one rice... note for next time.. one rice is enough lol
Hui is a hidden gem in the UES. I moved away from the area but I still order delivery from here all the time! They have a varied menu and a good amount of non-spicy dishes that are delicious and filling. Definitely visit Hui if you’re looking for authentic Chinese food in the neighborhood!
OK, so we haven’t actually eaten at the restaurant yet. But we’ve ordered from there multiple times when I have guests in town and the food is so good when the guests return, they want to order it again. It’s also so good that we order extra just to have leftovers the next day. Best Chinese ever!
I order here all the time and dine in occasionally. Everything is great - if you're a fan of spicy, the spicy dishes deliver perfectly. Go for the main dishes over the dim sum, but either way you won't be mad.
Wow the food here is so good! This was my first dry pot (fish), and the taste was so sophisticated, -- I ordered it very mildly spicy, and the combination of the slight heat and the slight sweetness, it was just amazing. Somebody in my party can only eat bland food with no sauce or spices - this is not the restaurant for that so they only ate white rice. The service was great, available but gave us a lot of space, never pushed us to order, just so nice. The place is small to medium and very clean. They have soda although it's not on the menu. Highly recommend for authentic Chinese food!
Take-out Review Only I ordered via Grubhub and the order was ready within 10minutes! I thought that the soup dumplings were amazing in terms of the flavor, softness of the meat, and amount of soup. The filling inside falls apart and is not congealed, which tells me it's a fresh dumpling. I think the skin could be a little thinner. I also ordered the Beef w/ organic mushroom & black pepper. Every single cut of the beef was *extremely* tender and well seasoned. The mushrooms were fresh and the sauce was just right. I will definitely be ordering from here again!
There was no wait when we walked in on a Saturday evening around 7pm. The waitress quickly came to help. She had an amazing sense of humor which brought my 2yo great fun. I ordered Mapo Tofu (麻婆豆腐)and Beef and scallions(蔥爆牛肉). In less than 10 min, the dishes were brought to us. My son ate all the beef. And my tofu, oh man, I was crying. I've ordered Mapo Tofu every time I see a restaurant featuring Sichuan(川菜 or 淮) style. The majority of restaurants do not get to this specific flavor. It could be the wrong kind of tofu, or a specific spice missing(麻). There used to be a restaurant around Columbia University that did it perfectly to my liking but it was shut down in the year when the health department all of a sudden decided to look very carefully (which was supposed to be). Anyways, Hui did it perfectly, just like the flavor and sensation I remembered from childhood. My mom would add ground pork into the dish, but this tasted amazing as it was. I can't wait to go back and try more. The restaurant looked clean and stylish. The people working there were wonderful. You should give it a try (especially if you enjoy spicy food)
I started coming here when I discovered this restaurant in February 2023. It has become my go to Chinese restaurant whenever I’m in New York , which is often. I’ve waited a year before writing a review. They have a very friendly staff who are welcoming and always smiling. I love the whole snapper and the fried rice is the best I’ve had in the city. They also have great cocktails , especially the lychee martini All cocktails are $14. Can’t beat that anywhere in the city. The room is cozy with soft jazz playing. I have only come for the lunch but I definitely recommend for the food, drinks and great service. On a side note, I’ve noticed most of the patrons are Asians. That is always a good sign that the food is authentic. I read a review where the writer said she was hassled for a tip. I have been to the restaurant easily ten times in the last year and NEVER have been disappointed.
Wowowow the food here is delicious! We had the Husband and Wife's Delight (aka Fuqi Feipian or Couple's Delight) it is a popular dish in Sichuanese cuisine and boy did it deliver! Then we had the chicken dry pot (more spicy) and fish (less spicy but sour due to pickled vegetables). All very very good dishes. Heads up though it can be spicy if you're not used to Sichuanese cuisine. Talk to the waiters to bring down the heat. Restroom: Only one available and gender neutral. Service is great and fast (even during lunar new year!)
I have ordered takeout and dined in. The food is fresh and tasty, but can be a tad salty. The service is great. My mom and I recently came in for a weekday lunch and enjoyed our lunch. We ordered mapo tofu, veggie delight (?), and a crispy chicken dish which were all outstanding. We like the brown/purple rice too.
Some really good authentic Sichuan food, great service, and an interesting app/website that you use to order through and ask for a server. We got the husband and wife beef, cumin lamb, and pig trotters. Would definitely recommend all three of the dishes, but if I had to choose one, get the cumin lamb. Only downside is that it is quite pricey, but you won’t find better quality Sichuan food in the UES.
This place reminds me the ULUH in East village: cozy and low key decoration with homey Chinese food. We tried Peking duck, pork belly, boiled fish, cold noodle, fried rice, and eight jewel rice pudding. All dishes were above average and at the authentic side. The average cost per person was 26 including tips which I think reasonable. I will definitely go back if I come to this neighborhood. Overall a nice place to hang out with family and friends.
We have ordered take out which was very good. My first time dining in though. The food is very authentic. Don't have photos for two dishes, the pork belly wrapped cucumber which was very good, and the fried calamari which was tasty as well, but not as crispy as traditional fried calamari. We also enjoyed the pan fried pork buns, the pork filled soup dumplings, and the pea shoots. The Overlord chicken, had a subtle flavor, and was a very generous portion. We finished with the sticky rice which was an unexpected delight, but not served in a fashion we have seen previously. It had a sweet but smoky flavor and was served in a warm slightly sweet egg soup. And I almost forgot to mention, the staff was amazing! I highly recommend this restaurant!
I came here for lunch but ordered from the chef’s special since the lunch specials featured cliche westernized Chinese food and I was looking for more traditional sichuan cuisine. I ordered the boiled fish and it was mostly okay, and the soup dumplings were a bit too chewy compared to the great ones I’ve had in the past. Overall, decent spot if you’re nearby
Decent neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. It is authentic but not the best I’ve had. We started with a lackluster Dan Dan mien - noodles were a bit overcooked. But it improved from there - the beef with chili was nice and warming but the star of the evening for me was the pork belly and preserved vegetables - the fat from the pork adding wonderful flavor the vegetables.
Ambience: I loved the look of the restaurant. It could easily be a local date spot. Service: Service was a little spotty and confusing. We weren't sure if we were to order off the QR code or if someone was going to take our order. No one was really telling us and it took awhile for someone to come to our table. Food: The food was delicious but a little plain for my tastes. We ordered the dumplings and they tasted fresh but just needed a little more seasoning. The chow mein just felt a bit too oily to me. The pickled vegetables were really good. Overall: I'd say it's a nice place to try but just needs a little better service and sauces to go with the food. Instagram Handle: @TheShahLALand
Service: The service is okay for us, but we heard the waiter argued with another table’s customer for unsatisfying tips, with quite bad attitude. The waiter finally argued for more tips and walked away even without a thanks. This is not right to treat tip/gratitude like someone else has owned you. Food: The food is salty and oily, not too authentic Chinese cuisine. The restaurant mistaken the spicy tofu fish with beef.
