I’ve been to many Pupusa spots around the world. This place has the best hands down! They have an amazing curtido that I can’t find anywhere else. The staff are great and sexy.

We frequent this place. Delicious food. Great prices. Warm and welcoming staff. Thank goodness for an alternative to the usual suspects (not great food diversity) in this neighborhood.

I'm not the most adventurous eater, nor do I travel from Brooklyn to the upper 100s, but La Cabana's pupusas are SO worth a return trip! We were served a box of steaming pupusas that smelled so good, I didn't wait for any of the sauces to make it my way, and I'm glad I didn't, because it was a perfect snack. Thick, but light, corny but not bland and it nearly melted in my mouth!

Good prices and good food, highly recommend. I know I'll mark high price but its for 5 people.

I love this place. They make delicious pupusas with ask the fixings. I usually get the lorroco pupusas. The dishes seem like simple El Salvadoran staples but everything is cooked and drained to perfection. My favorite dish is the chicken stew. Their horchata is not the best but I just get a Presidente instead :)

This is my 2nd visit! They have amazing pupusas and tamales here. Everything is quite affordable and you will leave full and satisfied. They accept cash or credit and the menu is in Spanish and English. I will be back.

Hot, fast, and delicious. Pleasant service and cold beer.

Great food! Las pupusas y los tamales de elote are delicious. Nothing beats a bowl of beef soup when sick or during winter. I love this spot!

Food is great. Have enjoyed this place many of times It's been around for many years. My favorite is the steak with rice & beans. I highly recommend this place . Enjoy..

So a friend of mine and I decided to do the broad city tik tok challenge and walk all of Manhattan from 225th st down to battery park. Needless to say we didn't get very far and ended up chilling at Fort Tyron Park. At the back this lady recommended La Cabana Salvadorena as an authentic Salvadorian place that you can only get in InWood. So we came to check it out and she was right! We ordered the combo plate that is steak, a tamale of your choice and a papusa of your choice. All of this for only $12! We also had a papaya milkshake and it was delicious! Will definently trek back up here just for the food because it's worth it. Everything was fresh and homemade! Lastly they were really nice to let me have my dog in the outside shelter seating area!

Whenever I crave pupusas in the city, this is where I go. There aren’t as many Salvadoran restaurants in NY compared to LA, but more seem to be popping up and I love it. I highly recommend this spot for delicious pupusas!

I ate here many times while in NYC and it was always deliciosa. This is authentic Central American food in a friendly setting. Authentic, delicious and friendly. And affordable. I miss eating here.

The food is wholesome, tasty, and just enough. The folks are friendly and never rush customers with the bill. A very relaxed, laid-back attitude!

Long live the pupusas here! Yum, with a nom! So delicious, I have been telling everyone about this place. I tried ones packed with veggies and cheese with a slaw on top. They are so good that it is worth a trip up town, you won't be sorry!

R

I love this place. I've been eating in this place for a long time and I never seem to get bored of the variety of foods they have. Besides their food, they also have a fancy bar. For those of you that drive, their's a parking lot structure right next door but, it does not belong to the restaurant.

A

We got the pupusas to share. I got the cheese with broccoli flavor and my husband tried their cheese with pork pupusas. This is the first time I ever had Salvadorian food and it is so good! It is kind of like pancake but chewy and very cheesy. I was surprised by how inexpensive it is and how delicious this is. I would love to come back and try other things on the menu!

best food in the world. Before I came here my wife was mad at me for cheating on her but then I came here with her and she forgot about everything. Definitely recommend would try again!

Cute little place in Dominican central... The pupusas are cheap and really good! Beer prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is casual but enjoyable. I recommend this place for good Salvadoran food. Definitely good bang for your buck!

This place has the best Pupusas around. Since ordering here I have not had any issues with my orders. I would recommend and enjoy because it’s delicious!

The pupusas here are DELICIOUS and cheap ($2.50 each). Our waitress was also so sweet, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience!

The ambiance is really good. They have TV's if you like to enjoy a game while eating your food. They take the right amount of time making the food, it taste delicious and fresh. I would definitely recommend this place.

Everything we've tried here so far has tasted delicious. Highly recommend the churrasco with rice/beans combo. My husband loved their tostones. All their pupusas are amazing. I love the chicharón con queso. The star was recommended to us by a lovely staff member: pupusas con todo y guandules y queso salvadoreño.

Food here is amazing. The pupusas are the best I have had in NYC. Not sure how this place ended up in the heights but I am thankful! Very good food. Come here for that alone, service is a little scattered. I have had most things on the menu and they are all great. I recommend coming w a friend or two so you can try more things.

Oh my goodness, I just have to share my latest food discovery with you! I found the most amazing pupusa spot, and I am absolutely over the moon about it! The 3 Ings pupusa with pork, cheese, and beans was out of this world. It was perfectly cooked and had such a delicious flavor all on its own. But wait, it gets even better! They also serve it with a side of pickled cabbage and homemade tomato sauce that just takes it to the next level. And the best part? They have other types of pupusas to choose from, including a vegetable one that I can't wait to try. Plus, they offer takeout which is super convenient. And let's talk about the price for a moment - it's a steal! You get a larger pupusa for only $3, which is way better than the smaller and more expensive ones you find on the street. I recommend getting one if you're not too hungry, two for a medium-sized portion, and three or more if you're really hungry. Trust me, this place is a gem and I can't wait to go back! And of course they have other items in their menu to choose from.

A real New York restaurant! Amazing food, made fresh, nothing soggy and sitting around. Even the drinks are fresh, like limonada (not made from some crummy sweetened mix). I have tried many items on the menu and would recommend them all. The beef, pork, soup, tamales, pupusas, all recommended! Good quality, big portions, low prices. For the price and the home cooked feel, it’s hard to match or beat this place. You must try if you haven’t!

R

I love the beef Enchiladas here. They are made fresh to order and taste amazing.

This place was great. The food was excellent. I didn't eat what was on the menu & they made a separate meal for me. The price wasn't bad either.

A

Was pleasantly surprised to find that they have good vegetarian food here. Great service too! My fave items to order are the ceviche (although it comes laden with chopped tomatoes by default), the tostones, and the sweet corn tamales.

G

We had lunch at La Cabaña Salvadoreña after visiting The Cloisters. It was our first time eating Savadoreñan food and the pupusas and tostones were delicious. Our mistake was not to pour the sauce over the pupusas, something we later saw other guests do, but, the pupusas were very tasty anyway. We now know how to eat them!

Lovely place. Popped in mid walk and everyone was very welcoming. Food (I ordered the plato tipico) was great and the refresco de marañon (which I've never tried nor heard of) was also delicious. Not very busy during a weekend lunchtime.

Amazing food! Although I ordered takeout this restaurant serves the best chips with guac hands down in all of NYC! the churrasco steak was 4/5 just because I was expecting a different taste but the steak was juicy nevertheless the rice and beans tasted really good. Other reviews are probably fake because my food tasted just fine I have nothing bad to say concerning this resteraunt definitely be ordering delivery again sometime soon

Sooo delicious! I always order the frijol y queso papusas and they are always great. They come with some coleslaw which I don’t believe is made in house but is still yummy. Have also tried the rice and beans which is great.

This is THE BEST food in our neighborhood, hands down. It’s fresh, handmade, full of flavor, and a major bargain. $$$✔️ Yes, the staff is busy, and you have to flag them down occasionally, but I sense that’s because they are actually making the food. I’ve seen them rolling the pupusas, hand squeezing limeaid, chopping cabbage... If you want food that tastes like someone took their time to make it, at a price that is unbeatable, come here. They never let me down. ❤️ Recommend: everything! But yes pupusas are a must and the casamiento 🤤

Yuri Kazakov

This is a rare find: a genuine, small, family-run restaurant in NYC. If you want authentic Salvadoran and Latin American food, this is the place to go. I had shrimp ceviches, a fantastic, juicy, and cool lunch on a hot summer day; my friends got pupusas and a sausage and rice breakfast. The price is also extremely affordable. Service was warm, fast, and friendly. It doesn't have the posh appearance of a high-end restaurant, but it makes you feel like you're in an old-school New York establishment instead. Recommend!

I have been coming here since I was a little girl. This restaurant is a staple in the neighborhood, they have the best pupusas in Manhattan. They are reasonably priced as well as being irresistibly delicious. You have to try them out!

Liz B

Humble restaurant with excellent food quality. They carry several Aguas flavors. They have a large variety of typical plates from el Salvador with excellent customer services. I have visited this establishment a few times and all the waiters have been polite. The food takes time since they prepare it as ordered but the wait has always been worth it. The establishment is small but offers outside seating. Could offer cleaner tables at times but they won't feel offended if you request for it to be cleaned again. They are usually packed inside.

If I could give it 4.5 I would. I was debating between 4 or 5. I decided to go for 5 and here is why: Being part Salvadoran, my family and I enjoy coming here for some authentic flavors when we can. The pupusas are incredible and I never get tired of ordering a few of queso or revueltas. The horchata is also very comforting and tasty. I have not had the bigger meals, but I will definitely be going back for some soon. I was thinking about potentially a 4 because of the outside seating arrangement which I believe is relatively new since the pandemic. They are probably working on it still. Yet, the overall restaurant feels homey and that is a plus! Regresare pronto.

Fast and friendly service, and for $7 (grilled steak lunch special with white rice, kind of pico de gallo side and green plantains) had myself a meal for a whole day. Tostones were soft and very different from Dominican tostones (that are double fried), but still very good. Min order on a credit card is $10.

C
Craig Turpin

I had no idea how tasty and rich Salvadoran food would be. This is another local gem I wouldn't have known about it it weren't for Google Places. The unassuming outside hides a great dinning room and even better food inside. I went with a group and we shared a couple varieties of Pupusas. They were really warm, soft and creamy but what added that extra zing was the fresh slaw and pink hot sauce. Adventures in eating to be continued.

B
Brooke Brod

Really tasty pupusas with tasty fillings that go beyond the regular bean & cheese to include spinach, zucchini & potatoes. The chicken tamales were filled with veggies. Great sides. And all incredibly affordable!

C
Ceffy

I would have given it 5 stars if waiters would be more welcoming and friendly oriented I walked in and they just looked at me and kept walking away no bueno, but other than my first time that i tried these famous Salvadoran chicken and cheese pupusas and the well lightly seasoned cabbage and they were delicious!! As far as the steak goes is well cooked aswell. The best part my bill wasn't near $10 that's a first for me aswell lol.. Go for it!!! 😉

J
Jona

Food was good! Authentic Salvadorian, only issue I had was the wait time for an order for pickup. I called and the lady told me 10 mins. I showed up in 15 and still had to wait another 20. Other than that legit

L

Good food. Everything is made fresh to order, so call half an hour ahead of when you open to pick it up or an hour ahead for delivery. Nice staff.

Always have great food there, but have had really slow service experiences sometimes. Not enough to stop me from going though. Great atmosphere, great food, great people.

V
Vicky Bv

first time we went to this restaurant, the food was very good, but the service was very slow, We arrived and it took about 10 minutes for them to bring us menus to the table, then more customers arrived after us and their food came out before ours, too much. staff working and lousy service, I will give them another chance we will go once again.

B
Betsy Romero

Loved the pupusas here they were fluffy and were a decent size. Only thing I dislike is the tomato sauce that comes with the pupusas. I've tried a few other places where the sauce is to die for and compliments the meal well. Overall great choice in pupusas. My favorite are the chicken and cheese followed by the Chicharrón and cheese.

J
Jeffrey Sosa

Every food Ive tried taste good. Pupusas are a most try. The only reason I dont give them 5 stars is because the waiters are not that attentive, they take extra long to bring the bill or to get your change back. Also there coffee is very good but they dont serve it in a mug they serve it on a regular grocery store cup. Overall food os great.

S
Sergio R

The food was good I love the pupusas so yeah. The four stars it's because the service, it was a little slow service even to check on people they never checked on my table so I had to go up to the counter to order more drinks because I was eating my food but had no more drink.

C
Christopher Gil

I would rate this place a four across the board. On tastiness, service and overall casualness of the place. They have a side entrance to a bar right next to the restaurant. Haven't tried the drinks but I see people orbiting from time to time. If you need parking try next door.

D
Daphne Griffith

Hi Everyone My name is Daphne Griffith and I visited La abana Salvador with my friend Dr. Michael Kent and we had a fabulous delicious lunch. we're giving them an "A" grade. The salmon was delicious and flavorful but the chicken was a little tough.

M
M G (Mgonza)

Great bang for your buck. I've ordered from here plenty of times for delivery service since it's not near by whenever I have a crave. The food delivered is solid but doesn't come near having it fresh out the kitchen. Great taste ,solid service, and decent portions.

A
Alonso Gil

Food was sooo delicious and a perfect portion. I don't know where else I could have a delicious steak meal for under $10. Only issue I had was I was served a single 12 ounce glass of water and was never offered a refill. The waitress took our order, brought back our water, then our food, then our check. Never really "checked up" on us like most restaurants do. Still amazing food and atmosphere so I'm not even really mad about it.

A
Anna Watrous

Small and cozy, this little Washington Heights gem has home style Salvadoran dishes, beginning with pupusas (corn cakes stuffed with meat, beans, cheese, etc) topped with savory coleslaw. The chicken soup was just right on a cold winter night. Fried plantain, both ripe, sweet, and the starchy, salty green types, were on point. Rice and beans complete the meal.

A
Amanda Perez

The pupusas are great. My favorite is the chicharrón. Love that you can mix what goes into your pupusa. For example, you could get chicken and beans or chicken and cheese or just chicken. Whatever you’d like. I especially love the pupusas with both the red sauce and cabbage that it comes with.

C
Chinomso Ejiogu

Very good food, although the awning and decor can use a slight update, but do not let this dissuade you from going. The lunch special stewed chicken with salad and plantains were the perfect pairing and perfect afternoon portion. I would give them 5 stars, but lunch service was a little slow given we were the only ones dining (there were three of us). I'm a little upset I didn't find this place sooner.

U
Unruly Exposure

Their food is amazing! We love this place, the only reason it’s not 5 stars is because there’s no consistent delivery person to pay cash. I would order more often!

L
Liseli P.

The food is really fresh and flavorful. The grilled chicken and steak are delicious. The rice and beans are so good.

T
Tzarina Gil

I came here for pupusas, the loroco and queso one had an odd cheese that was stretchy like mozzarella but tasted like parmesean, the mixta was a little bland and the frijol y queso tasted like frijol from the can. It wasn’t bad but definitely not the best the way other people say. I recommend going to Jamaica queens for the best pupusas. I won’t be coming here again.

R
Roberto Avalos

I went to eat soup and the don't have any kind of soups, I ordered 3 pupusas but, those were not delicious but services ,I when there before everything was excellent :(

n
nalisha tahir

We ordered the pupusas they were good however the traditional cabbage relish and salsa were really tasteless.. One must repeat themselves continuously to the people answering the phones.. to the point of shouting.. not sure what is the issue there

A
April Zarzuela

The food was good. We got pupusas and Salvadoran breakfast. It was tasty. Service was horrible as mentioned by a lot of the other reviews, hence the fewer stars. Also, the revuelta didn’t come with beans, cheese and chicharrón which we found odd.

T
Topher Ziobro

Small neighborhood place with friendly staff. You can call in your order for delivery / pick-up or swing by to enjoy food straight from the kitchen in the restaurant. The pupusas are a good choice, from broccoli and cheese to pork and come with a slightly spicy hot sauce and delightful slaw. Messy but good, don't try to eat while walking or riding in a bus / subway.

J
Joe Wang

The food was good and the prices were decent. The decor was nice and clean. The size of the place is decently large; there are two halves, seemingly two stores that they joined together into one large restaurant. However the main problem is the kitchen is incredibly slow. Went around 8:30 and had to wait about an hour for food (a table of 2). Even drinks took 5-10 mins. For the food specifically, all the different tamales were great, while the fried yucca was too dry and tasteless.

I
IWORSHIP 2006

This place has great popusas and my mom enjoyed the soup compared to some other place I went to in queens. So quality of food and service was good Unfortunately we noticed that they were not cleaning tables before the next person would sit. Also I think people smoking while you eat is wrong. Maybe they should put up no smoking signs. So cleaning standards need to improve. Customers are watching and yes a rating as this may effect your business. Will modify my rating on my next visit but only went there because of gas and it being nearby. Parking may be a conflict to find during the evening hours.

Dennis Carrasco
Dennis Carrasco

The food is 5 stars so they will see me again. However the attitude is crazy! I was constantly ignored even when walking while staring at the owner and saying “have a good night”. Needless to say come for the food not the ambiance.

Taha M

Food is amazing. The pupusas are very tasty and cheesy! Service is not so great, and staff is not so friendly.

Corey Cherrington
Corey Cherrington

Some of the food items were fantastic and deserve a 5. However, 2 of the three food items on my combo plate were burnt or overcooked, and the service was not good. We sat very close to where the kitchen was, so the staff passed us very often. Many times when they walked by they did not ask us if we needed anything and did not notice us trying to get their attention several times. We probably say at our table for more than 15 minutes with both of our waters run out because if this. Ultimately, my husband had to go up to the hostess/register to ask for refills on water. I dont think this should ever be the case in a sit-diwn restaurant.

T
Tania Bolanos

It takes way to long for the food to come. Osea que almost an hour like bro can you either hire more workers for the kitchen or like what, honestly or offer something to kill the hunger while we wait. Will update wether the food was okay or not but for service they get two stars and that's me just being nice. Not only that even when you ask for delivery/take out service is still the long wait. Yes I know it's not a fast food restaurant but even then an hour for a simple tortilla with stuffing bro really.

P
Patricia M M

I placed an order over the phone, they told me half a hour to come and pick up the food. The person who is in the counter totally ignored me, I waited and waited until I asked her if my order was ready and she told me it was not ready, and she told me it would be ready in 10 minutes. There is no staff communication to tell each other accurate order times without making customers confused..

Denise Rodriguez
Denise Rodriguez

The pupusas are good and the cabbage was nicely seasoned. The maduros were tasty, warm and sweet but I was not impressed with the ceviche. It lacked citrus and salt. Service was very slow and the waitress never went back to follow up on us. Normally I'm pretty excited about Central American cuisine but this place was disappointing.

N
Natalie Carr

After waiting a painful 30 mins, my food finally arrives and everything is cold. The red beans came from a poorly heated can and the chicken (horrible tasting) took me back to a public school lunch, it looked old and reheated ineffectively to the point the edible parts were crusty if not burnt. I left unhappy and unwilling to ever eat Salvadorian food ever again. For all the lack of effort of the staff one would think they were too busy but that was certainly not the case. I should've took a hint after seeing all of 2 people inside for happy hour. Terrible Terrible, Terrible *Some one quote me on yelp please I dont have an account and I desperately need to get this message out.

L
Laura

Very unimpressed. One of the staff was kind but the other one was rude and really seemed uninterested in customer service. I still kept my hope up for the Salvi food. As we ordered they were out of almost everything we asked. I order a typical breakfast dish that was mediocre. What I ordered they didnt have but I was unaware until after my food arrived. Truly a let down...

Pupusas were good. Service was TERRIBLE. Food took a long time to come out. Server never brought water to the table. She never came around for anything. We had to go inside to ask for the check.

Poor customer service. Waited 15 mins for the menu then another 45 mins for my 3 simple order (spinach and cheese pupusa that barely got spinach, beef tacos and tamal elote), mind you my Food was served cold. I didn’t complain because I did not want to wait anymore. ! (excuse my language) A hair on my cold pupusa then the beef from the tacos was cold- so I was hoping for my tamal elote to compensate my aggravation but it failed me- not fresh and it was falling apart. Can my evening get any worst?! They extended the place hired extra waitress that needed some extra training, inadequate production and quality of food was awful. I will not go back and neither recommend this place. Restroom is filthy how much more the kitchen. This place needs another food inspection.

Giving the rate a 1 for the simple fact that the food is actually good. Despite that the waitress have a nasty attitude. I have been coming here for years and every single time i leave dissatisfied with the workers. Once you receive your food they don't even come and check on you so good luck if you have a dry mouth, unless you call them over they will not come to you. My last time there was last week, and literally is my LAST time there. As me and my family are eating a HUGE water bug is crawling up the wall right next to us, i begin to scream and the ladies as per usual are busy at the bar chatting and take their sweet time to handle the situation. A guy worker comes with a broom kills the roach and of course the dead roach lands on our table, he throws it on the floor and everyone goes on about their day. No one came to wipe the table, no one came to apologize, no discount was given or courtesy for the food we refused to finish. Disgusting and disrespectful. The least they could've done was apologize, but then again as i mentioned these ladies have nasty attitude. I will be calling 311 and informing on the water bug issue. After coming here for a decade they still don’t provide diet soda. I’m a type 1 diabetic who can only drink diet, so once I sit down I have to get back up to go next door and buy my own diet soda to enjoy my food given to me with attitude.

Worst service in Washington Heights. Went in for dinner March 26 with family. A couple other diners were there. Waited 10-15 mins for menus. After another 15 mins with no service I went to counter to tell them we'd like to order. Meanwhile we watched take-out customers come in and place orders. Another 10 minutes later we left. They didn't care and didn't even say "Sorry." I've eaten there several times in the past & liked the food. I'll never go back and will warn friends & neighbors.

We have been ordering food from this place for a little over 8 months. Usually, we order for delivery but today we decided to pick up. We always order about 6 pupusas that usually comes with 2 bags of repollo or the shredded cabbage if you will. Not only did they put all the orders in two containers, which we asked them not to do so because it was different options but we also asked for another bag of the shredded cabbage as she only gave us one. She then gave me a sassy remark about the bag of food. The bag is very little and we had to split it for 6 people. We never had this problem. If anything, they were always very generous. The 1 star is for the sassy remark, rudeness and lack of customer service. This establishment has lost our business and company's business.

Awful experience. My wife and I went for dinner and ordered two pupusas each. We waited for almost one hour. The food was good but the order was wrong. We decided to leave and pay at the desk after waiting even longer but since I was still hungry I got a slice of cheesecake to go. After one bite I had to spit it and throw it away because it tasted like it was spoiled. We will most definitely not go back.

A place that was once one of our favorite restaurants has gone straight downhill. With deliveries they often get our orders wrong, and have unprofessional and rude staff. Once they forgot our rice and beans with our order and when we called they had us on the phone debating for 5 mins on what to do. Even asked if we would come get it! Seriously? Then said sorry we wont deliver it. Wont ever be ordering from this spot again. Save your money for better spots in the neighborhood.

In my opinion the rice I was served had a burned flavor to it. I told my waitress and she told me that the rice simply tasted like that. I've eaten there before and although hit or miss the flavor of the rice has tasted good in the past. Simple solution was to offer me a salad or something. The waitress just looked baffled at the idea of the rice not being edible until she walked away. I will not be going to the restaurant again. Beyond the wait times, some decent customer service would have kept us as customers. Good luck.

Ordered online, unfortunately found a cockroach in my food. I was a frequent customer but unfortunately was disgusted and did not finish my food.
