The food here is extremely tasty, and you get a huge portion for the price. I would highly Highly reccomend for takeout or a quick bite in the area
Omg! I've been craving some delicious, authentic African food. My beautiful coworkers recommended this spot. I been seeing them eat this delicious Djollof and finally decided to try it. I was so excited to see a fish option with the Djollof rice. It was amazing, delightful flavoring, a bunch of large pieces of veggies like cabbage, eggplant, carrot... I will definitely be back for more. I can't wait for my Father to try this Blessed African food from Senegal. The team here creates a warm feeling that enhances every meal. This place impresses time after time. The food offers guilt-free deliciousness. The employees showed kindness in every interaction. I intend to dine at this restaurant again.
Le Baobab Gouygui has earned our sincere recommendation to others. The workers' care for guests is why this place succeeds. Their excellence is evident in meal preparation and service behavior. The atmosphere avoided stiffness, embracing warmth. The restaurant will satisfy your needs.
perfect location, close to public transport and parking. easy to find and great for a quick bite or a leisurely meal.
Assaalmu Alaykum I’m going to be completely honest. I never thought I was going to like African food. I’m 30 years old and I never tried African food. I always thought it wasn’t a good taste. But my friend took me here last year and if there’s one thing I can say African food is one of the best food in the whole world. I love this place lol I try to come here at least three or four times a week. The price is very very great and amount of food that they give you is like if home with your family.
I was born and raised in Harlem, but obviously had not spent enough time in Little Senegal. When I tell you my eyes welled up upon tasting their Thieboudienne a.k.a. “OG Jollof rice”… Had later told my date “He had ruined me; and this is the only rice I ever wanted to eat.” I want to marry that beautiful Senegalese man. 🤫shh…
This place offers quality meals without overcharging. Le Baobab Gouygui employees welcomed us warmly as a family. This place provides satisfying portions that taste amazing. This place mixes class, style awareness and deliciousness. I'm delighted by the addition of this spot.
I had a great time in this attractive setting. The staff excelled at service while bringing food quickly. Le Baobab Gouygui delivers excellence in both food and atmosphere. Each item provides quality flavor. This spot creates a comfortable vibe.
First time having Senegalese food, and I was NOT disappointed! TLDR: Go here!! It's delicious! We came in on a Sunday between 930 and 10 pm... and this place stayed busy until we left about 1045. The portions are huge and the prices are great! We should have taken a cue from the locals and shared a big dish, but we wanted to try several things. I'm glad we did get a variety because we ate it all for leftovers the next night! I forgot to take a picture of two of the dishes: Thiebou Yapp and Lamb Maffe... they were both excellent, though! The Lamb Maffe was a little too spicy for me, but it was still so good!! The Yapp was great also! The other two (pictured) were the Mechoui and Thieray. Delicious!!! Definitely adding to my saved restaurants!
This Senegalese restaurant I went to with my bf was so good the food was great, the service was top tier, the atmosphere there was just like eating at home with family! I was only in NY for less than 24hrs. My bf and I made it our mission to get there! I can’t wait to go back, I had the thiebou yapp (Chebb) I believe he had the lamb. Overall a great experience the owner sat next to us, I just felt so loved, she is so attentive to everyone that steps foot in those doors! I can’t wait to come back 💗
HONESTLY YOU WONT FIND A NICE RESTAURANT AS THIS OPEN 1 AM IN THE MORNING in Harlem I had grilled Tilapia amazing everything tasted good. I'd definitely recommend this Athuentic Senegalese Restaurant for dining in great service big meals for youre money just make sure you order from the counter and have a seat at one of the tables and shortly after I was served. Definitely going back again.
The cuisine of West Africa has layers of nuances. It is slow cooked with passion and has been shaped by history. Someday, hopefully I will make it to West Africa. I look forward to that experience. I cannot wait to try the authentic and undiluted Jollof Rice, Cest Bon, Thieboudienne, Yassa, Mafe etc. I am currently obsessed with Dibi Senegal. It is a street food. It is essentially charcoal grilled lamb chops which post grilling is doused in a tangy, spicy mustard sauce, garnished with sliced onions, wrapped in a parchment paper and then thrown in a wood fired oven. Dibi Senegal is served wrapped in the parchment paper (straight out of the oven), along with bread and Sosa Kaani (an incendiary sauce made from Scotch Bonnet peppers). The best Dibi Senegal (in our area) I have found is at Le Baobab Gouygui (120 West 116 St NY). BTW on Monday Le BaoBob offers Cest Bon made with fish, shrimps and vegetables. It is a smoky flavored Seafood Paella on steroids.
Depends on what day you visit is what dish this place offer. If you don't eat spicy food than order LAMB MAFFÉ. My friend's fish stew was delicious but way too spicy, we both ended up very happy with the lamb dish. It was absolutely delicious. Long wait to order and even wait longer after order. So be patience. This is my version of getting my "African" experiences without going to Africa. I liked it.
The food I got was nasty. I always go there and stay to eat and it’s always good but this time I ordered to go and the fish was burnt it looks like it was made the day before. It wasn’t fresh at all. I’m so disappointed. I was looking forward to my athiéké but I didn’t eat up eating it.
The food is good, not the best Senegalese food I’ve had but it’s good. I’m writing this reviews because the men in there need to learn how to calm down. I know a restaurant can’t control their customers but the male customers were extremely rude to my friend and I (two young women). Pushing us without saying excuse me, giving us dirty looks, making noises at us and unnecessary comments when we were just trying to order some food at night. None of the workers spoke up or helped us. Just because of this I will not be returning and I advise any young woman to not go here without a man present especially at night. Even with the cameras in the store we didn’t feel safe.
