One of my favorites. It has such good Thai food. It’s a cute space and all of the noodle and rice dishes are amazing
Waitress Fiona did a great job— Get the Green Curry Salmon and the Tokyo Mule !
Wow. Was having a not so good day until I came here, and let’s just say, the name holds up. This was such a wonderful dinner experience and continues to be a staple of my dining experience. Not to mention the excellent service and kind, personable waiters. (Especially John) 10/10 restaurant. Put it on your list
Food is fantastic, the papaya salad with a fusion twist was a stand out, loved the pad Thai too and generally all Thai food. The restaurant is very cozy, the owner Kazusa is very attentive and welcoming, service was very good, excellent value for money, considering is in NYC. The night I went they had salsa live music 🙌🏼 I highly recommend this unique place.
Honestly I don’t understand why this restaurant has only 4.1 stars! I dined here last night and everything was top notch from food to service to the atmosphere!! I’ll go back FOR SURE next time I’m in the area!
I had the steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and it was so juicy and flavorful. The Thai tea was great too. The inside is super cute very homey with cozy, dim lighting. Only downside was the music being a little too loud I had trouble hearing the person across from me. But honestly, I don’t get the bad reviews. Our server was lovely and the food came out in about 20 minutes. I’d definitely come back. P.S— They only accept American Express & cash MAKE RESERVATIONS!!
Always a lovely day at Lovely Day! Nice spot to come with friends or family. Must get the ginger fried chicken. Cozy and casual and one of the last spots in this area where anyone can fit in and a normal price point. Food always tastes fresh.
Something about Lovely Day makes it so cozy, understated, and such a great place for dinner. My love for Thai food meant I have some very high expectations, and this place did not disappoint. It is hard to define Lovely Day in the first place. It is, for sure, not trendy. But despite its dim & aging interior, it is not mundane either. In fact, the crowd we've seen is still overwhelmingly the young and hip Nolita type. They approved this over $60 brunch? Unknowable universe! This place passed my curry test for how spicy it was. I did not see this coming - it was disguised as a green curry, which is typically less spicy than red curry. What kind of chili was that? They also make some of the best Pad Thais out there. It has a chewy texture coupled with the distinctive sour taste that saves it from being too dense, a mistake many Thai places make too often. Coupled with the coconut milk soup and you just had a happier dinner than you might ask for. I heard many locals longed to keep this place a secret, and I can see why. But seeing how much dedication this place poured into itself, I'd hate for it to go out of business. Kind reminder that they have a bar too if you need some liquor with your Thai ;)
I went to this restaurant a few times and walked by it almost every day. The food is great!. One day when it was closed I walked by it, and I saw the metal gates covered in graffiti and thought it looked uniquely New York. This location at 196 Elizabeth is great character for the neighborhood. I painted a portrait of this place in my series of 'Disappearing New York', which you can see on my website, www(dot)kovalfineart(dot)com.
Great little Thai place in NOLITA. We visited on a Monday afternoon at about 2 PM and the place was packed. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful with the menu. The food was good and the price incredibly fair. Definitely stop by if you are in the area. It was recommended to us by "lifewithlorenzo" on YouTube and he was right!
I enjoyed my meal here, the flavors were more herbaceous and umami than spicy. Very plant forward menu and I appreciated the portion sizes. Not the best ambience and service could have been better but I would go back!
The food is amazing. I had the shrimp pad Thai and some of the friends had the todo curry, which they said was spicy and delicious. There are plates for sharing or you can get your own dish. We sat upstairs with a group of 7 so it was a bit too cramped, which is why I’m not giving it 5 stars. I’ve heard the downstairs is bigger, but it was booked 2 weeks out when we made our reservation. It’s also a great price. I will go back again for sure, just not with a bigger crowd.
The night I visited this place it was really packed so we had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated especially because we didn't have reservations. The experience overall was okay, to me it was not like any other Thai restaurant that I dine at, the menu is very limited when it comes to Thai selections compared to other places and the portions are not large. I ordered a large pineapple fried rice but the portion looked like a small but it tasted very good. The miso soup was also delicious along with the Chicken Satay and shrimp tempura tempura. The service was okay it was a busy night so there was limited interaction with our waitress. But the staff was friendly and greeted us with kindness.
Waitress/hostess was extremely rude almost to a comical degree. She blatantly ignored our request for the bill three (3!!!) times and made eye contact and just walked right past us. Mind you this is a small place and there is no way she didn’t see or hear us. I would possibly forgive if the food and drinks were better but they were lackluster at best and extremely overpriced. The vibe is cute and they have Red Stripes if that’s all you’re looking for.
I ordered the Chow Fun with Beef for lunch takeout. The order was ready at the estimated time by seamless. The chou fun was soft and very good but the beef, which was cut in thin pieces, was way overcooked. You could tell by the dark texture on the edges. I tried a few pieces but they were all too hard and chewy.
I had a lovely day… until I came here. They don’t warn you that they only take amex or cash, they have a small ATM at the back. It sais it on the menu, but when you come in just for a drink, that’s not exactly something you might see. I must say the waiter was quite unkind, until it came time to pay and ask for a tip, then suddenly a smile erupted on his face. This is the first time I take time to give a review on google but I just had to!
I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Lovely Day was so disappointing I feel compelled to warn others. We waited over 50 minutes for our food to arrive, and what made it worse was that customers who came in after us received their meals before we did. To top it off, two guys who were there before us also got their food after we did. When we asked why it was taking so long, the staff casually mentioned that they only had one cook. Fine, but maybe instead of spending more time chatting and hanging out with friends, the two girls working could have helped in the kitchen? Honestly, it felt like they were more focused on socializing than actually serving customers. When the food finally came, it was a major letdown. The portions were ridiculously small, and the food itself was bland and underwhelming. I get that mistakes happen, but this level of poor service and food quality isn’t something I’ll be willing to overlook. Won’t be coming back anytime soon.
