Second time visiting Marea during my New York trip and it was even better than the first! The service was excellent — attentive, professional, and warm from start to finish. The pasta here is 100/100! Highly recommend the Pappardelle Granchio Reale — the king crab was sweet and generous, perfectly balanced with garlic butter. For appetizers, the Polipo (grilled octopus) and Scampi on “Scampi” were both phenomenal. Every dish was fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. A true NYC fine-dining highlight. Must recommend to all my friends traveling to New York — you can’t miss it!
Excellent meal, excellent service! My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and a couple of other milestones and the entire staff was welcoming and warm. All of our dishes were delicious and we can’t wait to go back on our next trip. Our server Robert was delightful and friendly. He had excellent wine pairing suggestions! Everything on the menu is delectable, you cannot go wrong. Definitely make room for dessert!
We chose here to celebrate Chinese New Year and had a really lovely experience. I’m allergic to olive oil, and to be honest, many restaurants either can’t accommodate that or simply say no, which makes dining out pretty stressful. The staff at Marea were incredibly understanding and accommodating. They were able to adjust the dishes so I could enjoy the meal without olive oil, and everything was still absolutely delicious. It felt great to be able to relax and actually enjoy our celebration without worrying about my allergy. Great food, thoughtful service, and a memorable way to celebrate the New Year. Really glad we picked this spot!
Perfectly seared tuna with a silky texture and clean, fresh flavor. The pistachio adds a subtle crunch, the olive oil ties everything together, and the grilled lemon brings a balanced acidity. Elegant presentation and excellent execution.
A lovely experience here, with well-trained staff that were very helpful and quite patient with our many questions about the wide assortment of available dishes. It really was difficult to choose, but eventually we landed on some amazing small bites, including oysters, the Ricciola with a great textural contrast, the fun interpretation of tonno acqua pazza, and the delightful Passera with all its intertwined flavors. You could easily limit yourself to the crudi and the antipasti and leave satisfied, just to explore the dishes. We of course did not limit ourselves, and enjoyed amongst us: the Casarecce, which was flavorful and spicy; the Pappardelle, which was perfect pasta and texture and flavor; the Spada, which was pure umami balanced with bright fennel; and the Capesante, which was perfectly cooked. The wine steward provided excellent pairings with our entrees, including a beautiful Barbaresco. This is a refined, impressive dining experience; highly recommended.
I had a fantastic experience at Marea, earning a full 5-star overall rating. The culinary side of the visit was a definite highlight, with the food receiving 4 stars for its quality and presentation. The service was equally impressive and professional, also earning 4 stars. While the atmosphere was a standard 3-star environment, the combination of excellent service and a truly great meal made this one of my favorite dining experiences.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely wonderful experience. Every dish we ordered was delicious, but the lobster was truly magical-perfectly cooked, rich, and full of flavor. You can really feel the quality and care in every plate. I also really appreciated how many gluten-free options are available on the menu-it’s a great place for anyone who avoids gluten without having to compromise on taste and gluten-free pasta!!! Special thanks to Daniel, who took amazing care of us. The service was attentive, warm, and professional, making the whole evening feel effortless and special. A fantastic dining experience-we will definitely be back.
Incredible meal and unmatched service. Here's what I ordered and in the order I rank them. (Note: everything was fantastic) 1. Grilled scampi entree (by a long shot) 2. Scampi on scampi 3. Sole fillet with caviar/sauce 4. Creamy bolognese 5. Gnocchi with shrimp (shrimp was the highlight) 6. Caesar salad w/anchovies 7. Hamachi Crudo w/ pear
We came on Christmas Eve and it was extremely crowded. The restaurant previously held a Michelin star, and after this visit, I can see why it might have lost it. Perhaps it was due to the holiday rush, but the service that night was fairly mediocre. We ordered the white truffle pasta, $110 for 4g. While the presentation was fine, it definitely did not feel Michelin-level. The risotto was more enjoyable than the tagliatelle and had a much richer flavor. For the starter, the Cannolicchio was quite creative, and the Astice was excellent!! The lobster was very bouncy, fresh, and sweet, and the burrata was rich and milky. Unfortunately, the Ricci was a big disappointment; the uni had a strong fishy taste and the quality was poor. For the primi, we tried the Capellini, which I was really excited about but ended up disappointed. It was overly acidic, and the butter was not well incorporated. We also ordered half portions of the Pappardelle Granchio Reale and Fusilli, and surprisingly, these simpler pasta dishes were more enjoyable than the so-called signature ones. For the main course, we chose the Anatra. It was already portioned when served, and the duck skin was beautifully crispy, one of the best dishes of the night. We ordered two desserts and both were very good; I especially liked the tiramisu. Overall, the portions here are quite generous. Some shortcomings help explain the lost star, but I would still recommend coming when it’s less crowded.
Wonderful visit and delicious food. We didn’t have to wait too long but had a resy in advance. We got a great table and enjoyed the caviar bruschetta, parpadelle pasta and branzino. We ordered the homemade butter and gluten free bread and it was incredible! The Marea martini is lovely as well.
Everything here is delicious — not a single miss. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but it always feels worth it. Dinner reservations can be a bit tricky to secure, but lunch is often available even on the same day. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and a perfect spot for a special occasion.
I’ve been to Marea a few times now, and it never disappoints. I’ve tried the Tagliatelle, Branzino, and the Pappardelle Granchio Reale—everything is incredibly fresh and packed with flavors you don’t find at just any Italian restaurant. The presentation is always beautiful, and the restaurant itself is stunning and always packed, which says a lot. I absolutely love this place and would highly recommend it. Plus, it’s right next to Central Park, so you can take a nice stroll afterward. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic date night.
Been to this restaurant multiple times, and I found the quality of their food is consistently excellent and the service is also top-notch as it usually is. I highly recommend their octopus fusilli, one of their signature dishes, and their halibut, which, in my opinion, is one of the best dishes on the menu.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Marea, and everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The team made us feel incredibly special — attentive, warm, and professional throughout the entire evening. Every dish we had was exceptional. The Gambero Rosso and the Capesanta were simply outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. When it came to dessert, we were torn between two options, and to our surprise and delight, they brought us both in honor of our anniversary. Such a thoughtful gesture that truly made our night unforgettable. A special thank you to Greg, one of the best waiters we’ve ever had. His deep knowledge of the menu and ingredients made the experience even more enjoyable. You can really tell he loves what he does, and it adds so much to the atmosphere of the place. Thank you, Marea, for an unforgettable evening. We’ll definitely be back!
Marea exceeded expectations—from the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel truly taken care of. Attentive, warm, and professional throughout. The food was just as impressive. The seafood dishes were fresh and flavorful, but even non-seafood options like the steak and pastas were just as memorable. Dessert was a showstopper. A refined dining experience with top-tier hospitality. Highly recommend.
Made a last minute 5pm dinner reservation for a solo dinner before a show. First mention is the service was impeccable; warm and attentive without being overbearing. Food was delicious! I got the pasta ribbons with king crab and breadcrumbs, and the broccolini. Both were absolutely delicious. Also got a grapefruit mocktail that was delicious, and they refilled your sparkling water as if it were tap water which I really loved. This place is definitely expensive, but was perfect for a treat-yourself dinner date.
Came here the other day for a birthday lunch and it was delicious! We shared the salad with anchovies which was crisp and fresh and the dressing also on point. For the mains, we tried the shrimp gnocchetti, the halibut, and the scallops - all cooked to perfection. I didn't try any of their cocktails but did have the elderflower mocktail which was tangy and refreshing. Dessert was amazing - the tiramisu with a twist, the millefoglie with pistachio and raspberry atop the deconstructed pâte feuilletée was decadent and light. I had no idea that there was also a birthday dessert with the bomboloni and a mini pistachio cake from the kitchen! Service was incredible - we felt attended to by the wait-staff and I must say the bread basket that continued to circle the dining room was the cherry on top. The ambience was quiet but not stuffy - the perfect setting for a family meal. I would certainly come back here again to try other items on the menu!
Marea delivers a beautifully refined take on Italian cuisine with a strong emphasis on seafood and pasta. The dishes are thoughtful and balanced, with fresh ingredients and delicate seasoning that show real care in execution. The atmosphere is elegant without feeling overly formal — it’s polished and sophisticated, but still welcoming. Service here is attentive and knowledgeable, helping guide you through the menu without ever feeling rushed. Whether it’s the house-made pastas or the seafood preparations, every dish feels elevated and purposeful. For a special night out or a memorable Italian meal in New York, this place stands out as something really special.
Marea is a solid place; consistently delightful, albeit pricey. The standout dishes for me were the Bronzino tartar and the tagliatelle (without the truffles). The grilled Bronzino and scallops were okay. I wouldn’t recommend the scampi croquette (though others in my group raved about the sardines). Our server was wonderful and intuitive as were the other main staff. Some hiccups with the support staff (e.g. repeatedly mixing up still and sparkling water, taking long to clear crumbs off the table, small things like that - but that’s okay). Overall I very much recommend and will be back
We visited Marea as a family with two kids. At first, we were seated at what was clearly the least desirable four-top available, but that’s understandable and sometimes part of the game when you arrive with children. As the evening went on, once the staff noticed we were genuine guests who appreciate good food and ordered generously, the service became much warmer. Our waiter was attentive and kind, and overall the service started positive. The food, however, was absolutely outstanding. Everything was refined and beautifully prepared, from the raw seafood to the lobster, scampi (langoustine), and top-quality oysters. The pastas were excellent: our daughter’s butter pasta was surprisingly special, the mushroom-and-taleggio risotto was rich and creamy, the lobster risotto was spectacular, and the homemade spaghetti with clams was truly sublime. For the main course, we shared a Dover sole, which was good, delicate and flavorful, though a bit dry and with a few bones, so there was some room for improvement. What didn’t quite work were the side dishes recommended by the waiter. The butternut squash/zucchini with curry and salted ricotta, while interesting, clashed completely with the fish. The sautéed mushrooms were also well seasoned, maybe too much, with rosemary and herbs, again not really matching the main. Both sides were tasty on their own but simply not the right pairing. So, in summary: the kitchen delivered excellence, even the sides were good, just mismatched. The service, while friendly at first, faded toward the end, the waiter never came back after we finished, and someone else dropped off the bill without a goodbye. We would have left a higher tip if the service had ended on the same positive note it began with. That said, we’ll definitely return, Marea is an excellent restaurant with exceptional cuisine. The only area that fell short this time was the service toward the end of the meal.
This place offers a beautiful ambience with an elegant vibe. The service was top-notch, and every dish was exceptional - you truly can't go wrong with the menu. The octopus fusilli and lobster burrata stood out the most for me - both were rich in flavor and perfectly crafted. I'm already looking forward to returning for another unforgettable meal.
Elegant dining experience. Bring your credit cards! We just had dinner here. The food was good overall. The main server was good. Three separate people asked us if we wanted water before someone actually brought us water…. We ordered the duck for our main course. The server placed the rare duck in front of the wrong diner, even after we asked about cooking level. The food overall is elegant and the wine list expansive. Sort of odd Marea did not offer an amuse bouche or anything else.
If you want great food, unrushed service, warm and hospitable staff - this is NOT the place for you. Reception and coat check were totally lacking in warmth. Waitress relentlessly pursued our drink orders almost from the moment we were seated. Waitress and bus staff relentlessly tried clearing dishes and relentlessly asked to remove our bread and bread plates. Then my desert. then my capuccino. Food was, at best, adequate. Some dishes were ok, but the swordfish was notable overcooked and not what was described by our waitress. An adjacent table then engaged in an incredibly loud FaceTime call and nobody from the staff said a word. New York has so many great restaurants, I'm shocked this place has so many positive reviews. I'd never return and strongly suggest you find another place to spend your dining dollars - especially at these prices.
We had an extremely disappointing experience here as a group of four. Our bill was almost $900 including bottles of wine, so this was not a casual or low-spend visit. Despite that, we were made to feel unwelcome towards the end of the evening. Staff began clearing our table without asking or receiving permission, while we were still seated. Shortly after, we were explicitly asked to leave because we had “overstayed,” even though no time limit had been communicated in advance. Also, they took forever to take our orders. If there is a strict seating policy, it should be made clear upfront — not enforced abruptly and rudely after guests have spent a significant amount of money. The way this was handled felt disrespectful. Being the only four brown people at the restaurant it totally felt discriminatory. For a restaurant positioning itself at this price point, the service and hospitality fell far below expectations. We won’t be returning and would not recommend this place to others looking for a welcoming dining experience. We did bring this up to the management and they seemed more interested in getting the credit card charged right away and did not offer any significant apologies. Our server ( Robert) was actually nice but his service could not make up for how the evening turned out overall.
Dined in on November 15, 2025 around 4:30pm, along the main street side. The white truffle pasta and dessert are tasty. The way a tiny issue was handled, though, was surprisingly defensive and unnecessarily rude. I was genuinely surprised that a long-established restaurant like Marea chooses to be run by a team that treats small problems this way. It does make you wonder what kind of culture or incentives lead staff to reach for the rude option when the gracious one would have cost them nothing. For a restaurant that once held two Michelin stars and now holds none, it did feel like part of the explanation.
$50 lobster roll with one pinky sized piece of lobster. 3/4 of the roll was burrata (why?), pickled eggplant (??) and cherry tomatoes. Travesty of a roll. I’m tasting cheese with fish, when the roll is already soaked in butter. Ridiculously overpriced establishment. For not one good reason. Skip this place and go to Avra down the street if you want real sea food. The servers are very kind though.
