The food was amazing! Service was great, food tasted fresh. Love the open kitchen. We didn’t wait to be sat, went around 9:30 pm. Price was great and we left full and content. 10/10 would recommend again.

Food is good, but this place is cramped and you will feel rushed as this place gets filled quickly after 5 PM for the dinner rush, even on a Tuesday.! All our food items came out within 15 minutes so be prepared to chow down and then hit the pavement. They prefer cash though they accept credit for payment which I found strange when we received our bill. If you like authentic Japanese yakitori and like to try a variety of dishes, you may not feel entirely full after spending $80+ on your meal, this is a place to try out in the Village.

Very good selection of yakitori, loved the pork belly, chicken. Chicken skins should be a bit crispier, chicken hearts needed seasoning. The interior really felt like a spot in Japan, it is tight and cozy.

Solid shop, I would say the dishes that are non yakitori could have some work in terms of quality but it was still fully satisfying to eat and I thought that the meal was good. The skewers is what makes this place stand out, and I would say that’s what you should order. The grilled pork skewer was good - I do kind of wish the meat portion was bigger but they did give a lot of sides in the bento.

Food overall is pretty good and priced reasonably. I really like their udon, but the cream was not mixed well enough so some part is a little bland. Their fried food is not greasy. The egg, tofu, and eel is pretty good as well. For yakitori, I think everything is well-seasoned, except for the sausage that was quite salty. The place is quite small, but was not very crowded when we were there.

I have been here twice, but I can say that I enjoyed coming here and trying out the dishes. My most recent visit was on the weekends, and I tried the Oh! Taisho w/ Miso Soup and for dessert: Pudding with ice cream. The servers were thoughtful in providing a glass of water before I ordered, checking in to see if I was ready to order, and letting me know there are hooks under the table that I can hang my bag. It also has Japanese music playing in the background. The Oh! Taisho Don tastes fresh, hot and crispy though a little over seasoned, to compensate the flavor, I had Sprite soda to go along with my meal so that helped me to enjoy the meal more, especially the pickled daikon. There is a dessert menu, even though it's not given, you can politely ask for the menu if you'd like to see. I saw on the dessert menu, there are parfaits (100% I want to try it next time). The time I came in, it was during the weekends and, boy was it busy. So if you are coming in as a large group, be considerate of the space especially if you're carrying a huge bag or jacket (depending on where you are being seated). Don't expect it to be quiet, because it can get busy and noisy when the restaurant gets busy. Overall, I do not mind coming by again to try the other dishes at a much calmer time, when I can.

I used to love this place; it was my favorite spot for a good meal. However, I’ve noticed that the food taste has changed a bit recently. Specifically, the kimchi udon, which used to be a standout dish for me, doesn’t have the same flavor it once did. It feels like something is missing. On a positive note, the fries are still a must-have! They’re crispy and seasoned perfectly, making them a great side to any meal. I hope the kimchi udon gets back to its original deliciousness soon, as I’d love to enjoy my favorite dish again. Overall, it’s worth a visit for the fries, but I hope they can recapture what made the other dishes so special.

Just as good as the original mainstay. Cheap eats, fast service, and enough choices for every palate. Update dec2024 Everything is kind of hit or miss these days. I went during senior hours so it was not packed at all. There was absolutely no reason to overcook the yakitoris. The fu steak is still pretty good, the fries were crunchy and freshly fried. The tuna tartare was still pretty good. The potato salad tasted a day or two past its shelf life. And the skewers... Overcooked and dry. Especially the beef tongues. A little disappointing.

This authentic and casual Japanese izakaya is a staple in St. Mark's that’s been around for a while. A plane ticket to Japan isn't cheap, however, Yakitori Taisho is a great late night eats and drink spot, serving a huge variety of Japanese foods in NYC. The space inside is tight and loud, and the atmosphere is busy and energetic, which is an authentic izakaya experience if you ask me. The menu here is pages upon pages long that it can get overwhelming deciding what to order with the variety they offer. Great to come with a group of 4 if possible to try different foods, however most tables here are for 2. We got a whole feast during our most recent visit: teriyaki chicken, steak, okonomiyaki, takoyaki, grilled mackerel, takowasabi, unagi and egg over rice, galbi, fried rice, chicken karaage, and a lot of yakitori (meats on skewers). Late night hours and yakitori keep this Japanese joint bustling!

Amongst all the restaurants on this block, this one is sort of a hidden gem. Not necessarily out of sight, this one makes you feel like you're at a Japanese bar in those Asian dramas. The atmosphere is busy and welcoming. You'll notice immediately how small and cramp the place is. I cannot tell if the design of the place also factors in, but the sounds travels in weird directions and frequency, making chats kind of difficult. On the up side, the food is superb. All the dishes are readonly priced given their size. All the fried fritters and karaage are hot, crispy, and crunchy! The onigiri are also filling and bigger than you expect. If you're uncertain, definitely ask because you'll may be deceived by the size based solely on the pictures.

Went here for dinner and it was super packed but we did walk to our table. Overall, the food was good, the ambiance was super crowded although I could still chat with my friend, the price was the right amount with the portion of the food, and the staffs were helpful! Although our table did not get the seasonings and a pair of chopsticks that was super okay as it was very busy for them and we decided to ask politely to the staff. And the white rice my friend ordered did not come until we requested it. The highlight for me was the chicken skin yakitori !! I love how they season it perfectly while wondering why my chicken gizzard one tasted just bland. Keep up the good work !

It was ok, been here a coulpe of times over the past few years. The food has slightly gotten more "sodiumized." It's so far been fine, just watch out after 5pm, as people come in to drink after work.

I really wanted to like this place, but the food was a major letdown. I came specifically for the yakitori, so I can’t speak to the rest of the menu, but what I ordered was disappointing. The chicken skin was soggy instead of crisp, the beef was tough and difficult to eat, and the garlic was served unpeeled. After a few bites, I left the meal mostly untouched. I get that the restaurant caters to a student crowd, but I was hoping for better quality. On the positive side, the atmosphere is nice and the staff is genuinely friendly.

I am extremely disappointed. If you require a minimum spend of $30, please inform us at the door. My friend wanted ramen, so I brought her here. I had already eaten, and she wanted shrimp tempura, but menu don't have shrimp Appetizer, So she only wants ramen. Then waiter tall us everyone must be order $15 food can have table I don't understand. It wasn't busy here, and there was no line, so why set a minimum spend? This is so disappointing!
