Not usually a big fan of chicken pho since I prefer beef but stopped in here with family and it was honestly the best meal we had in Chinatown! The broth is flavorful and the chicken is so tender and soft and really delicious paired with the dipping salt and pepper sauce. Our server was a young gentleman in college who provided great service and was very respectful and attentive. I would definitely come back here next time!
I really enjoyed this spot! I’ve been trying pho around the city, and this place is definitely one of the standouts. They actually started in Virginia, and I’d always heard good things before checking them out. I ordered the pho with chicken liver and gizzards, and it was amazing. The broth had so much depth—rich, balanced with herbs, onions, and aromatics—and the chicken bits were generous, adding great texture. At $14.99, it felt like a solid deal for the quality and portion size. The staff was super friendly and attentive, making sure I had a good experience and even suggesting other dishes. I also tried the passionfruit lemon green tea, which was so refreshing and packed with flavor. The vibe of the place made it even better! Photos framed on the walls, funny chicken prints here and there, it felt unique and welcoming. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’m already looking forward to coming back. Definitely worth it.
Best pho ga we've ever had. Loved it, super friendly staff and love the fun wall decor!! Perfect for a single digit day... Or any day!!
Surprisingly big place. The Beef Stew soup is AMAZING!! Highly recommended. Update 11/14/24: Got the Shredded Chicken Pho Very light broth, flavorful and very mildly salted. Very good. With the colder temperatures they have started to offer Hot Tea, which is a bonus. There is also a bathroom in the back.
A VIETNAMESE TREASURE TROVE OF AUTHENTICALLY DELICIOUS CUISINE TUCKED AWAY ON THE LOWER EAST SIDE: I came across the Pho Ga Vang restaurant in New York during a sejour living in the area on the lower east side. It was by happenstance as I walked by and saw it on Market Street as I was freezing my bottom off. I popped in for lunch. A scrumptious decision indeed! I’ve dined here and returned quite a few times and the food is fresh and very authentic. I’m a big fan of family grown or run Asian American restaurants as an Asian American journalist myself. This one had quite some history, which I’ll enjoy telling you about as a South East Asian broadcaster who spent 38 years in the region on and off. The restaurant is owned by a Vietnamese immigrant to the United States, Tony, who was a refugee to the US during the Vietnam War. His family made a brave and poignant journey via Hong Kong to arrive in California in 1978. They opened their first restaurant in Philadelphia - which now has 2 outlets in the area - and another restaurant followed in Falls Church, Virginia. A new branch in California is coming up in a few months. Tony’s small burgeoning empire of Vietnamese restaurants across the country. The name of the game at the Pho Ga Vang restaurant is chicken, chicken, chicken with posters of chickens everywhere so I was humming this song during my time there: Old MacDonald had a farm Ee i ee i o And on his farm he had some chicks Ee i ee i o With a cluck-cluck here And a cluck-cluck there Here a cluck, there a cluck Everywhere a cluck-cluck The meaning of the restaurants name (translated from Vietnamese) is aptly “yellow chicken noodles.” Their signature soup broth is made from scratch daily and is so fresh and deliciously out of this world! My favourite dishes at Pho Ga Vang are: For starters, the nems or spring rolls and summer rolls. These are prepared to perfection - so reminiscent of my Paris student days where there is also a large immigrant Vietnamese community. I highly recommend these nems, big time ! Onto mains: the beef stew pho is a hearty, nourishing and flavorful meal with a combination of very tender beef cubes, vermicelli noodles, beans, herbs and the most yummy beef broth. It’s quite like a western stew but with some Asian Vietnamese kick with the spice and condiments! The lemon grass chicken pho is also exceptionally good and rich in authentic Vietnamese taste. The broths at Pho Ga Vang are the perfect steaming hot meal (giving you a hot facial too!) for a chilly New York winters day. The grilled pork rice dish (com thit nuong) is very tasty with the rice cooked in chicken broth and the meat caramelisation preparation but a little fatty for my taste so ask the chef to trim the fat off if if possible so it’s lean especially if you are a health conscious buff like me. This plate also comes with a lovely salad and soup to boot. The portions at this restaurant are enormous, good for sharing and great value for money. I’d say this restaurant is ideal for casual business or lunch dates and definitely for student dinners. It’s fuss free, minimalistic and simple. I enjoyed being surrounded by the voices of the Asian millennial community as diners who clearly enjoyed tucking into a real Asian meal, as much as I did. The best sign of the authenticity of a restaurant, I reckon, are its customers! One of the very special things about this restaurant is the service. The staff are so pleasant, kind and friendly. Hence I have returned three times (and counting) for a meal there. It’s very popular spot and oh so crowded on weekend lunchtimes until 2:30 pm ‘ish. So drop by for an early or late for lunch to avoid a big queue. On weekday lunchtimes the restaurant is not too crowded. I wish you a wonderful meal at this Vietnamese treasure trove of deliciously authentic cuisine, gentle hospitality and service!
The food and service here are fantastic! The presentation is beautiful, and Xiao is incredibly kind and attentive. Deserves a raise!
Pho Ga Vang – A Hidden Gem for Chicken Pho Lovers At first glance, Pho Ga Vang might look like any other pho spot—simple, cozy, and unassuming. But don’t let appearances fool you—this place delivers on flavor in a big way. They use one broth only: chicken, and it's absolutely fantastic. The broth has a deep, rich flavor that hits all the right notes—comforting, savory, and soul-warming. Honestly, I didn’t realize just how good it was until I tried other pho spots. The broth here just hits differently—you can taste the care and quality in every sip. Their chicken is just as impressive: tender, juicy, and flavorful, with that signature yellow skin that hints at quality and tradition. Yes, the price might be a bit higher than other local spots, but the portion sizes are generous and they accept cards (a plus!). The staff is friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. If you’re a chicken lover, this place is a dream. The grilled lemongrass chicken is another standout—fragrant, flavorful, and pairs perfectly with both rice and noodles. It's a must-try alongside the pho. I’ve tried a lot of pho around the area, and while each spot has its own twist, Pho Ga Vang stands out for its simplicity, consistency, and deliciousness. If you want satisfying, chicken-based Vietnamese comfort food, this is the spot.
Great spot for fresh chicken broth pho. Would also recommend getting the chicken liver and gizzard app.
Cozy place for chicken pho! I ordered half a chicken and a bowl of rice noodles. The chicken was incredibly tender and the broth for the chicken pho was hearty. I nearly drank all the broth and didn't even leave a bite of chicken. It was a great price for fantastic chicken pho. The portions for the half chicken was very generous. The accompanied tangy and salty sauce paired well with the chicken. There was also a sweet chili sauce that wasn't overbearingingly sweet like other sweet chili sauces. They also include gizzard and liver! Some places give the blood as well but not this place. I definitely recommend this place for a no frills and simple chicken pho. The workers were very kind. I definitely plan to come again to try the other items in their menu.
Found my new pho spot in lower east side/Chinatown. The young egg and the liver are cooked to perfection and basically melts in your mouth. The pho noodles are good quality, not the best I have had in nyc but not the worst. The chicken pho soup is very flavorful and has layers of flavor to it. The best part in the pho is the dark meat chicken. The service is great the staff are attentive, gentle mannered, patient and willing to make changes or exceptions on request. You can sit anywhere you like when arriving. TLDR; ORDERED: Chicken pho -> 9/10 would order again Young egg, liver and gizzard -> 7/10 would order again
Sooo good! My friend and I shared a lemon grass chicken pho and beef stew pho, and both were delicious. They were a great complement to each other too; the beef stew was thick and the lemongrass and lime balanced well with it. The portions were generous, so we left feeling very satisfied. The place is spacious and clean, with an assortment of funny chicken decor all over the restaurant. The staff was friendly as well. I consider it a gem in Chinatown!
I tried the fried chicken leg rice platter at Pho Ga Vang, and it was pretty decent. It had good flavor and texture, and the portion size was generous. The staff were friendly and professional, delivering excellent service. Additionally, their Vietnamese iced coffee complemented the savory flavors of the cuisine perfectly. Their pho dishes were impressive as well, packed with rich umami flavors and comforting textures. The broth was light yet aromatic, seasoned perfectly with their signature blend. You can tell the chefs put time and effort into infusing the broth with the essence of fresh chicken. I would say the broth is not to be missed. Overall, I would say if you are looking for a convenient, affordable, and enjoyable introduction to the diverse flavors and textures of Vietnamese cuisine, I highly recommend visiting this place for a chance to immerse yourself in Vietnamese culture. It is worth experiencing at least once.
one of the best meals i’ve had. incredible food, no wait for a table, perfect chicken pho, i will be back
Today we tried grilled pork rice and lemongrass chicken rice. They were surprisingly delicious and also the sauce was good. The servers were friendly and explained everything patiently. This restaurant is underrated and recommend this place. We will definitely come back again.

I didn't know we need another Viet place in Chinatown but @phogavang chicken pho was game-changing, the broth is light and comforting, the portion was huge and the amount of meat you get for the price is a blessing, I actually prefer the vermicelli over their thin pho noodles, we also got the mixed platter with chicken gizzard, heart, and liver, all were clean and fresh
Related to the legendary Pho Ga Thanh thanh in Philly, this no frills newly opened Viet spot is NOT TO BE MISSED! Make sure to get the traditional chopped chicken pho with the added bamboo shoots! Absolutely phenomenal, the broth is light yet flavorful, the simplicity of the poached chicken is delightful. Similar to that of the Hainaness Chicken, the natural flavor of the chicken enhanced by spices and herbs is a breath of fresh air when most other places other heavily seasoned noodle soup. Sometimes the most simple dish is the most delicious! A MUST TRY for all those who relish in a simple noodle soup!
Delicious bowl even for an overly warm Autumn afternoon. The broth was flavorful. The noodle were of perfect texture. The lemon grass chicken when dipped into their signature dipping sauce 🤤.
If you're looking for a truly authentic and unique chicken pho in NYC, look no further than Phở Gà Vàng. The broth is incredibly comforting and cozy—it gives me that wonderful, unmistakable taste of home. Plus, they're the only place I've found that serves the pho with delicious gizzards and livers. That addition takes a perfect dish and makes it even better. Which style do you like best, or would you like to try another variation?
Just finishing up my chopped chicken pho and had to come write a review - placed an order for pickup and it was ready quickly, piping hot after a walk back to the office. Broth was out of this world, chicken tender and flavorful, and even the noodles seemed to have better flavor than I’m used to. 5/5, highly recommend.
I love this place and I want them to stick around. The "traditional chopped chicken pho" is a lunchtime treat for me. The service is fast so I always make it back to work in time. The broth is excellent and the chicken succulent. I love the condiment they serve it with, one of vinegar, salt and bird's eye chilis. Delicious!

I had high hopes for their pho, but unfortunately, the food didn't really work for me. I really really liked the broth, noodles, and greens. The chicken meat was cut together with bones, and sometimes you can bite on a small piece of bone, which just ruins the experience a little bit. The taste of bamboo sprouts was a little bit off. Overall, it feels like a nice small but popular place with good service.
@phogavang is a chicken pho specialist and there is such a variety to choose from! The place is unassuming but staff are welcoming and the food was yummy! Would return in the future when I’m in the neighborhood 👍🏼

So happy to finally find a spot for great pho in the area. This place is known for its chicken, but I was craving beef. Regardless, it was delicious. I'll definitely be back to try the chicken.
I really wanted to love this place… but no… it’s just not good. My pho had raw chicken. Didn’t say anything because they look understaffed. So I paid. Left. Bummer.
