From start to finish, I had a lovely meal at Soogil a few months ago. All of the staff were very welcoming and kind. They even accommodated my last-minute request to be out in time to catch a broadway show and let me charge my phone while I ate. The meal itself was fantastic – it made me wish I hadn’t had to rush off to a show so that I could appreciate the meal for longer. I could tell there was tremendous care put into each dish. The sauces were wonderful in texture and flavor. The proteins - meat, fish, seafood - were all prepared beautifully, and cooked to perfection. While grounded in French techniques and preparations, there were subtle nods to Chef Lim’s Korean roots. The nurungji foie gras exemplified this and was a perfect blend of French-meets-Korean cuisine. I was craving duck at the time, and that I was lovely – no gaminess, with a rich and deep sauce. Next time, I hope to get the Wellington. I also tried their sister restaurant, Raon, which the night before coming here, and that was such a special (but different!) experience as well.

We had an amazing dinner at Soogil for my birthday celebration. Starting with 2 appetizers, all of them were excellent! Both were my favorite. The duck was very savory and sea bass was so crispy and the broth was really good. Service was amazing as well. Everyone was so attentive and all the dishes were delivered very smoothly. Highly highly recommended 👌🏻

Very nice petite establishment serving polished and delicious French cuisine with Korean flair. Greatly enjoyed our experience. The steak tartare was a 11 out of 10, kudos, as was the foie gras. The beef Wellington and duck were exceptional as well. Look forward to returning.

I had an unforgettable dining experience at Sookil in Manhattan. Every dish was crafted with incredible precision. The balance of flavors was outstanding—bold yet clean, and beautifully layered. I could really taste the chef’s technique and creativity. The presentation was equally impressive; each plate looked like a piece of art. Highly recommended, and I can’t wait to visit again!

I had the best dinner at Soogil. I can’t wait to go back! The Beef Wellington was so soft and flavorful. The Goguma + Scallop was so creamy but not too heavy. Uni cavier add on was chefs kiss worth it. Will be back soon

Food is meticulously prepared to perfection. Quiet intimate atmosphere perfect for savoring the subtle details in every dish. Yellowtail amberjack is a standard out. The branzino and the duck breakfast are divine. Wine selection is also thoughtfully curated to match harmoniously with the menu. Highly recommended!

One of the best fine dining experiences I've had in NYC so far! We chose the 6-course chef's tasting menu for our anniversary dinner, and it was 100% worth it. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious—there wasn’t a single miss from start to finish. Loved the fusion of French and Korean cuisines. The clear standouts were the entrees of beef Wellington and the duck breast. If it’s your first visit, I’d highly recommend trying both. My husband and I agreed: it was hands-down the best duck we've ever had. We each had a glass of wine to pair with the meal, and were really pleased with our selections. They were perfect complements to the meal. Highly recommended for a special occasion—or simply a memorable night out. This restaurant deserves more recognition. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet for that weeknight.

One of the best Korean fine dining place I have ever been in NYC! Definitely visiting next time. Soogil elevated my expectation on Korean fine dining to different level. Loved the vibe and food. Special thanks to the headchef.

Valentine’s Day at Soogil! 💕 We were the first dinner guests of the night, but the restaurant quickly filled up—as expected for a Friday Valentine’s evening! Except for one table, it was all couples, creating a cozy and romantic vibe. 🥰 The food? the best of the best the beef Wellington. Absolutely amazing. I wanted to have the appetizer as my main dish. I feel like I could eat 100 of them! 😆 The service and atmosphere? 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hands down, the best Korean-French cuisine I’ve had in NYC. Since this was a special Valentine’s menu, I definitely want to come back on a regular night to see how it compares! Thank you for an amazing and delightful dinner! I’ll definitely be back! Oh, and the wine(chablis. I forgot the brand. 😭) was absolutely fantastic—it made the experience even better. If you haven’t been to Soogil yet, you must try it. Highly recommended! 🍷✨

Came with a Korean foodie friend and we both ordered the 3-course tasting menu plus some additional side dishes. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful and the chef also met with us and provided additional information on the dishes we had ordered. Beautiful experience.

I visited this restaurant during New York Restaurant Week and was thoroughly impressed by the $60 dinner. The food was thoughtfully prepared and artfully presented, with each dish resembling a work of art. The diversity in ingredients, flavors, colors, and textures was remarkable. The chef's creativity and craftsmanship shone through each delicate dish, delivering one delightful surprise after another. A good chef knows how to keep diners engaged with the unexpected—it's like an intriguing dialogue. The restaurant itself isn't very large but has a unique, chill, and warm East Village vibe. The comfortably dimmed lighting enhances the intimate and relaxed atmosphere, making it the kind of place where you just want to sit all night, sip wine, and watch the world go by through the window.

Tried this place for the first time a couple weeks ago and it was absolutely amazing. I always worry about going to places that have the smaller portions but by the time we left, I was pretty full. We did the chef's prefix menu. Everything that came out was so fresh. The food combinations were an explosion of flavor, each with their own uniqueness. Even my picky eating friend was willing enough to try everything and for the most part liked it all (I would find it impressive if a picky eater liked foie gras). We had a group of 5 of us so we were able to try a little bit of everything. The halibut just melted when you took a bite was a pleasant surprise consider it tends to be a tougher fish. They bring out the whole beef Wellington before they cut it so you could see the golden goodness and then they cut it into portions to serve with a side of veggies. It was cooked to perfection. The duck was also good, I'm running out of words to emphasize how delightful everything was. The drinks were also very good. The sorbet for dessert was light and a perfect post dinner treat. The chocolate cake was the perfect balance of sweetness. Lastly, get the uni app. You will not be disappointed. I cannot rave about this place enough.

This is a TRUE HIDDEN GEM! This review is a tad over due. Each time we’ve gone here they have been consistently delicious. French cooking with a bit of Korean influence and ingredients. Every dish was yummy and very well executed. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. From their mains, our favorite will have to be the beef Wellington but the duck and the fish are also delicious and won’t disappoint! And the extra dishes (uni bowl and fois gras) are fantastic - gotta get it! Flavors are elegant and very well balanced. And I’ve left the restaurant each time immensely satisfied and looking forward to the next time I can go back! FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS: The times we’ve gone for special occasions (Mother’s Day & birthday celebrations) they gave us these mochi churros dusted with Korean grain powder with sesame ice cream! Sooooo good!

We had a fantastic experience here on the New Year Eve. Every course is creatively designed and exquisitely prepared to the perfection. The combination of high quality ingredients and sources made every dish a masterpiece and gave us very a unique experience. The atmosphere and service are also excellent that made our dining really comfortable and joyful. This is a highly recommended place for creative and modern Korean tasting.

First visit and it was for Restaurant week so we had the restaurant week menu. Service was nice enough but a little bit rough around the edges. We liked all the dishes we had. The beef tartare was a stand out for the appetizers, and we both really enjoyed our main courses, the Bronzino and the duck breast. We added the “Uni bowl“ which was a $32 upgrade and basically was two bites of Uni so that was a little disappointing. I had one glass of wine. We both had the chocolate lava cake with ice cream for dessert which was delicious. Including tax and tip, our bill came out to more than $200. I can’t really say that the value proposition is there.

The service was pleasant and the environment sleek and intimate. The dinner started with a complimentary sweet potato ball, which was a fun touch. Among the three appetizers we tried, the yellowtail crudo and scallop with tomato stood out for their clean, fresh flavors and elegant presentation. The beef tartare was well-seasoned and visually appealing. For mains, we had the Wellington beef (tender, nicely seasoned), duck breast (solid, not mind-blowing), and the seared fish — which ended up being my favorite for its balanced flavor and crispy skin. However, the portions were shockingly small. We ended up adding the foie gras rice, which arrived in a single sushi-sized bite. Delicious, but definitely not enough. Desserts were average and forgettable. In total, we paid over $100 per person and still left feeling hungry. This spot might be great for dates or light eaters who prioritize plating over fullness, but if you’re looking for a satisfying meal — this may not be it. Pros: • Beautiful plating • Calm atmosphere • Creative flavor pairings Cons: • Very small portions • Price-to-portion mismatch • Dessert lacked a wow factor Would I return? Maybe, but only with different expectations.

i didn’t shut up about the black cod dish. whatever sauce they were using on the purple rice was insane and the cod was just perfect. the ravioli (?) was the perfect one bite. purchased some to-go! good experience overall !!

Good food: especially enjoyed the nurungji foie gras and the duck. The appetizer and the dessert weren't impressive however. They should have an a la carte menu so that people can omit these. Service was okay. The servers refilled water and explained the dishes, but the service wasn't super attentive.

Came on a Tuesday night (8/13) and must say we really enjoyed the foods here but unfortunately was ruined by couple of hit and miss inexperienced servers. They were three servers on the floor that night which should be adequate for a weeknight crowd. What bothered me the most was the lack of basic fundamental knowledge about restaurant service. The first server who came to our table to take our order looks confused and even unable to answer some simple questions about the dishes on the menu. To make the matter worst a different server who open the wine bottle we ordered was just as ignorant. He just popped the bottle and serve it to everyone and drips all over the table as he pours. No bottle confirmation, presentation, pour of taste and so forth. At this point we just want to order and finish up our meal dinner then leave, let alone enjoying the meal but then came a server name “Fin”. An energetic, knowledgeable, attentive and very experience young man with a positive attitude. He went through the whole menu with us with a very professional manner. It was like a day and night. He stopped by our table periodically to check on us to assure we have a great experience dining there. We learned that through our conversation that he’s only been working there for about a month. To the owner and manager of the restaurant, we really enjoyed the foods here but the service truly needs more than just a polish. Hats off to “Fin”

They seated us at a shared table right by the entrance despite my reservation, and it was freezing out. When I’m paying $200+ for a meal, I expect the experience to match the price. This was one of the worst fine dining experiences I’ve had. Good luck if you’re planning to go. Reservation or not, you might end up seated by the door. Can’t rate the food since it was too cold to enjoy, but I do remember one strange experience with the food though. When the Beef Wellington is done, the chef puts it on a fancy plate and has a server bring it out to our table so we can take a picture. I guess this is fine. The problem is that they tell you it’s your Wellington, but then the server walks it around to other tables so they can take pictures too, even if they didn’t order it. After the photo session, the server takes it back to the kitchen, and they bring it back with garnish and sauce on a different plate about five minutes later. I understand the marketing angle, but I don’t feel comfortable with my food being carried around other tables before I even get to eat it.
