Such a great experience! I ordered the kimchi pork don, kani salad, and edamame, everything was fresh and full of flavor. The pork don had the perfect balance of spice, and the strawberry ice cream mochi was the perfect sweet finish. Michelle was amazing, so friendly and attentive. She really made the whole experience even better. I’ll definitely be back!
This is our go to place when we visit NYC. It is small and quaint - that’s the best part about it. You get this feeling that you’re eating amongst close family. We recommend this to friends and family on their visits. We had not been back since the COVID pandemic and would check in to make sure they were still open knowing we’d return one day. We’re finally came back this week. We were not disappointed. This is still a wonderful place to come in and dine. The atmosphere is warm, relaxing, and inviting. The service is excellent and the food is an experience. I’ll miss you Yama Ramen. Can’t wait to come back.
Solid spot. Ramen was legit, hit exactly right. But the real standout was our server Michelle. Super friendly, on point, and just genuinely great at what she does. Her recs were spot on, service was smooth, and she made the whole experience better without trying too hard. Easy place to come back to when you’re craving ramen in the city
I love their spicy kimchi ramen. My favorite ramen place when I go to Nintendo store. The sushi was fresh and very tasty. They have a great deal for happy hour on the Rockefeller Center area. Come to this place when you are in the area.
We had the pleasure of having Michelle as our server, and not only was the food amazing (got sushi rolls as our entree), but the service was exceptional too! Michelle was working through the snow storm which couldn’t have been easy, but still provided top notch service! Also, highly recommend the kale salad!
Yama Ramen was a great experience. The pork bun was soft and packed with flavor, and the fried shishito peppers were crispy with a nice little kick. Shoutout to our server Michelle who was super friendly, attentive, and made everything feel easy. Solid food, solid service, would definitely come back.
We went into the city to see the Rockefeller Christmas tree and afterwards we were frozen. I looked for a place where we could get some hot noodle soup to defrost and found Yama. Luckily it's only 2 blocks from Rockefeller Center. It's a small cozy Japanese restaurant tucked away up a narrow flight of stairs from the street. Dont blink or you'll miss it. The atmosphere is warm, modest, and authentic. The service was fast and friendly. And my tonkatsu ramen was delicious.
The atmosphere is amazing, low tone music and very calm but still modern. The decor is very simple but add to the experience. We were looking for sushi in town and found many places claim to serve sushi but most were crab rolls. This place offered a variety of rolls, sashimi, and if you arnt looking for raw fish the ramen was great. The broth was rich with good flavor and the pork belly was tender not rubber I also enjoyed the 2 gals who helped us they were very welcoming and knew the menu well. Looking to escape the busy street for good food and a great atmosphere you found it here.
Excellent atmosphere. Excellent service. Delicious food. Had their restaurant week specials. Presentation of food was fantastic. The Kimchi ramen with chicken was very tasty, very filling. Timing of food and service was completely on point. Really cozy place, right down to the ambient mix of music playing in the background. Editing to add pictures.
This was a great pick for us! The staff were attentive, the food was authentic and extremely flavorful. There were 4 of us in our party and we all agreed that we completely enjoyed our meal. There are steep stairs up to the restaurant. It's a large space and decorated well - It's very pleasant inside. The seats don't have backs to them (for those that hold preference/need that). There is a coat check area. Overall a great little hole in the wall!
The food is excellent! The service exceptional & Loved the atmosphere! Welcoming and friendly!\nWe'll be back for sure! Take out is available when we can't make it in! Very nice - Thank you again!

Great tasty food. It's a small, quiet restaurant which is a nice welcome from the busy day... they do have a small sushi bar.
Second time here. A hidden gem. The rolls were shockingly extremely fresh. One of the best sushi I've had. Recommend Manhattan roll!!
Delicious ramen and sushi. Good saki selection. Great happy hour pricing. Fast and polite service. Would recommend

This place was excellent. Would definitely recommend. A nice cute atmosphere for a casual meal. Try the Angry Ocean roll! Yum!
Three out of four of these meals that we had were good here. I had miso Ramen. It was very good and comparable to other Ramen places. Sushi was great. The teriyaki steak bento box left a lot to be desired, the steak had a very rubbery and shoot a texture that made it almost impossible to eat. Other than that, the atmosphere is great and the servers are OK.

Calm and nice place but poor quality food. The buns were cold and yakuniki beef of poor quality and mainly fat. The dumplings had been around for some time. diet coke was good.

So originally I order the Chicken Katsu curry and the second I smelled it, it was off. I tried it and immediately told them that I was not a fan of the flavor and wanted something else and I apologized. The waiter got the manager and I talked to him and he asked if I have ever had Japanese curry. Which I indeed have. They kinda were weird about it but they took it away, apologized and I ordered something else. I don't blame them but I wish I didn't feel as judged by not liking the curry. Other than that I liked the decor and the area isn't terrible. I also had the white Tuna sushi and the double dragon roll which was pretty good. Tempura appetizer is good but a little to heavily battered. I absolutely loved the sauce it came with.
Went here with a friend in the city before a show. Convenient location and chique, yet quiet indoors. Their menu has a ton of options, but we just opted for two bowls of ramen which were each tasty and satisfying. Service is quick. Would come back again and try something else on the very expansive menu.
Ok - the bad - very lowbrow wine offering, and poor happy hour selection - the one good one was the dumplings. But then, the sushi came out. Satisfying. Perhaps not over the top, but not bad.

Nice, clean place, second floor, they had room to seat us (4) quickly at about 5:30 on a Friday. Tables pretty close together but overall a nice ambiance and friendly service. We tried the pork bun…
The place was nice and the service was nice. But the food was not it. Me and my friend showed up 30min before they closed so maybe it’s our fault but we ordered our drinks and food and for starters, they forgot our drinks. Then comes the appetizer and I had the gyoza which it was okay but a lil cold on the inside. Then the ramen comes out and I got their “famous” bowl everyone’s loves apparently and the noodles were sticking together. It felt like the soup in it was just warmed up and they threw the noddles in there. The egg was cold and the meat tasted so old like almost falling apart and just mushy. So with all that I decided I wasn’t gonna tip. I go to pay and they start saying oh you didn’t leave a tip on any of the receipts trying to say this is America and like we HAVE TO leave a tip. I told them no I wasn’t going to tip and they started speaking in their language and laughing. So we told them thank you and one guy kept saying no no thank you. We were tryna be polite about it but they got really butt hurt over no tip. Maybe if they did some self reflecting on their quality of service they might see more tips in the future. But that will be the first and last time for me👍🏻
As someone who enjoys ramen from around the world, from Tokyo and Osaka in Japan to Sydney in Australia, Auckland in New Zealand, and various places in Singapore, I found the ramen here very disappointing. The pork broth lacked depth and richness. It tasted more like a clear soup than a proper tonkotsu broth. It reminded me of something made from instant powder rather than a broth that had been carefully simmered for hours. The noodles were soft, lacking the bite and texture you’d expect from authentic ramen. Service was initially pleasant during entry and ordering. However, during the meal, I was asked if I had finished so the bowl could be cleared. It was so obvious there was still about 50% of the noodles and contents left in the bowl. This felt abrupt and gave the impression that I was being rushed. There was also no goodbye or thank you when I left, which left a negative impression. The atmosphere wasn’t inviting either. There was a musty, damp smell upon entering, as if the air wasn’t properly circulated or filtered. Overall, I give this place 2 stars. One of those goes to the sushi, which was at least edible, though not well presented. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t return, especially not for the ramen.
The ramen was okay, but the service was disappointing. It took forever for anyone to come to our table, and when I asked for utensils a couple of times, we were completely ignored. Slow and inatten…

Possibly the worst bowl of ramen I have had in NYC, and I have had a lot. Dirty dish water is what I recall.
Terrible service & I don’t think I’ll be going back We felt we were ripped off & the food didn’t taste authentic . All the best
Bad food, old chicken, dry, small portions. Never go back again. Fake Japanese restaurant with bad quality food. AVOID, if possible. waste of money.
we went there on 12/28. I don’t know why the shop was already full but the boss still solicited more and more customers. As a result, the waiter just hang us there for thirty mins with no water. After 30 mins, the waiter finally noticed us that we haven’t ordered the meal. When the food came out, the ramen was warm not hot and the dumplings were cold. Overall this restaurant is so disappointing 🥲🥲
Let’s just not even talk about the food was probably the worst Japanese food I’ve ever had. When we were still trying to finish everything the servers seem like want to rush us to clean everything all the time. Even tho when we were clearly still working on it. When we are paying I told them please give us two second because the table was too small and they could totally wait two second for us to sign and get everything done and then clean. Immediately another server comes and insist to clear the table. In general bad food horrible dining experience. Would not recommend at all.
This was a terrible dining experience. Our server, Jenny, was rude and insincere. Her fake smile quickly dropped the moment she turned away, and I caught her rolling her eyes more than once. Throughout the night, her behavior was consistently passive-aggressive, which made the entire experience uncomfortable. The chicken teriyaki chicken was merely overcooked chicken pieces with a questionable, distasteful sauce drizzled on top. The tonkotsu ramen broth was disappointing. I recommend Shokudo for a better taste. One of the most shocking moments was one of the chefs sneezing on the sushi bar, souring my appetite. When I asked for the check, my guest and I were surprised to see the tip line crossed out. It turned out Jenny had quietly added a gratuity to the bill. When I asked if this was a new policy for two-person tables, she flatly said “no.” When I followed up to ask why she decided to do it tonight, she had no answer. To top it all off, we were rushed out before I even received the dessert I ordered. Overall, it was one of the most unpleasant dining experiences I’ve had. I will not be returning.
This is the worst japanese food I have ever had. I ordered a chicken teriyaki bento. Chicken was boiled with soya sauce poured on top of it, the roll was not even cut properly with 4 microwaved fishballs. The shoyu ramen was lukewarm, the noodle was stuck together. Overall, the food was awful. They need a new chef......
This place was awful and there are better ramen spots within walking distance. Not sure why the reviews are so high here. Service was subpar. This experience was a waste of time and calories. - The goyza was falling apart. - Ordered two bowls of ramen and the broth was very weak -- no flavor. Seems like they diluted the broth or something. - They served overcooked soy sauce eggs / tea eggs but it tasted like a regular hard boiled egg. They didn't bother with the marinating process. - The pork was overcooked and dry. - Cabbage was a bit rancid and they gave me the ends of the cabbage head. I'm all for reducing food waste but not onboard with rancid veggies. - The bamboo was probably sourced from a supplier and not made in house. It was way too sweet.
