We had the best dinner at Sea Level NBPT! They’re the best spot in the area. All of our dishes were delicious and the service was great. We got the fried pickles and duck confit flatbread (special) for appetizers. Both were excellent. We all loved our dinner choices- lobster ravioli, truffle steak frites, baked haddock and fried chicken sandwich. The managers, Toby and Myles were very kind and checked in with us during our meal. It made it extra special. We have had Erin and Matt as servers and both were very attentive and kind. The food, service and atmosphere all surpassed expectations, as usual. Thank you Sea Level for a wonderful experience. 😊
First time at this location - food was amazing! For appetizers, we got chowder, fries, and baked Brie. I am not a baked Brie person, but this tasted so good, and the chowder fries were outstanding! Would have never thought of this combo, but it’s a must try have! For entrees we got Wild Mushroom and Leek Pizza along with two sushi rolls, Shrimp Tempura & Dragon Maki Roll. If you’re a seafood fan The water eel with eel sauce was outstanding - Must try! The pizza was good, but had a white sauce - not my favorite, but still yummy. Atmosphere is always fun, I went with a party at four on a Friday night. We had a reservation for 7:00PM - That was no issue. The only problem on a Friday night in Newburyport is finding parking. My wife and I must’ve spent at least 25 minutes going between parking lots and driving up and down streets. We finally found some street parking. Give yourself enough time for parking on a busy weekend night. Oh wait! For the dessert - yes somehow still had room for this - was the Oreo Cookie Monster! Basically was a big slice of Oreo cookie ice cream cake filled with cookie dough in the middle. I’m a huge Oreo fan, and this was outstanding! I would recommend putting more whipped cream on - we don’t get much of that. Little steep for $15 - but it’s worth it. Easily split for 2 people. Come and enjoy - a delicious night of yummy goods!
We try to make it back to Newburyport every year, and our favorite restaurant is always Sea Level. When you visit more than once, the staff recognizes you and greets you like an old friend. The service is consistently warm and friendly, and the food never disappoints. On our most recent trip, we tried a special sushi roll that was absolutely to die for, topped with baked scallops and crab, pure perfection. The lobster-stuffed ravioli was also fantastic. We can’t wait to come back!
The food was great, decently budget friendly if you are traveling, and the lobster rolls are fantastic. Very interesting combo of western seafood and oriental dishes like sushi. Calamari was amazing as well, lobster roll well balanced and buttered, and the sushi was amazing. The food was also very fresh. Would highly recommend you go if you visit Maine.
We’ve been here twice now and both times the food was excellent. The first time we ate a meal here was for an early dinner on a quiet day during the week. It was super nice outside and we asked to sit out back. They have two outdoor seating areas, one out front and one in the back overlooking the water. The view was lovely. The place wasn’t packed and we didn’t have to wait for anything. Anyway, this place has a massive menu. Besides the regular menu, they have a whole specials menu each day. (See pics for menu.) We ordered fried calamari Italian style and they were so fresh and delicious. You get used to places over frying calamari, so that was a huge winner. For the main course, I ordered the specials blackberry bbq sauce baby back ribs. They were so good! They served them with yucca fries, which I love. I wish it was a regular menu item. My husband had the haddock with crab cake crust on potatoes. It was delicious. I loved it so much, the next time we visited, that’s what I ordered. During our first visit, we kept seeing these beautiful sushi dishes delivered to other tables, so we got some of that the next visit. It was good too. My kids had the chicken skewers that came with an island sauce and the baked scallops. The chicken was tasty and not overcooked. And the scallops were baked perfectly and still tender. Overall, we were really happy with all the dishes served to us both times. The people that work here are all super nice, and the service was excellent both visits. Prices are on the higher side and portions aren’t super large. Be sure to ask for market prices if that’s something you’re concerned about. The restaurant is noisy. I don’t know why that is, but even without being packed, it was. The place is kid friendly and they do have a menu specifically tailored to them. We parked in the lot next door and walked behind the restaurant. They charge during the day, but it’s not much. Otherwise you can find parking on the street if it’s not a busy day. I see there are a few mixed reviews on here, but I would confidently suggest you visit this place and try them out for yourself. (If the restaurant reads this, please consider that blackberry baby back bbq ribs special permanently 🤞🏻 It was soooo good.)
Everything about our visit was refreshing and absolutely amazing. The food was super tasty — full of flavor and made just right. The atmosphere was perfect, and we felt so comfortable and welcomed from the moment we walked in. Huge shoutout to our server, Taylor — funny, personable, and such a joy to have at our table. They really made our first experience unforgettable. We’re definitely coming back — we love it here already!
This is always a favorite date night spot for me! I have never been a fish person, and I branched out and loved their oysters as well as their buffalo calamari. It changed my opinion and opened my eyes to these items. They are always so creative with sauces, and flavors, which is especially seen in pizzas. The service is always nice as they constantly check on you. In the summer the outdoor patio is a plus!
The decor is a fun vibe that was relaxing but upscale as well. Fiddle Hands Beer and Guinness were to start. They were followed up by fried calamari, little neck clams, and fried oysters. They were all fantastic. My husband had the steak tips and I had the baked haddock. Service was quick and efficient. You could tell they were super busy but it looked like a well oiled machine. Food was absolutely fantastic. My only complaint is that I couldn’t go back again before leaving vacation.
Sea Level exceeded expectations in the sushi roll department. Delicious and filling to the belly, all amid celebrations in the city that fed the need for community. The little tubes in the sushi are their house sauces to try. The only wish was for more beets in the beet salad and to catch a few pieces of lettuce that weren't at their best.
Went here for our 5th anniversary last week and we loved it! Our server was so friendly and recommended the clams which were a special for the day and the seafood pie and both were phenomenal. For the price, (which was a little more) it was REALLY quality! We're from California and the prices would have been the same but the amount of seafood would have been much much less! The seafood pie was packed full of various kinds of seafood and had some really nice pieces of lobster including two lobster claws! I've been craving some good fried seafood so I got a mix of shrimp and fish with the onion rings and fries. Let the picture speak for itself! Delicious and exactly what I was craving! Definitely recommend you give it a try but be ready for a little wait for a seat if you don't call ahead for a reservation!
Elizabeth was the best thing that ever happened to me. Me and my college roommate had a delicious meal and sweet Elizabeth was our waitress. She provided incredible service and predicted every need before we even asked. She had another customer who was … less than kind, and handled it with grace and poise. I applaud her for her amazing service and dedication to her job. Truly she is the gem of sea level.
Amazing dining experience they have indoor and outdoor seating and even clear garage door walls that open to see the bay. Fish and Scallops are excellent.
Had a really nice late lunch with friends on the outside patio here. As a vegan I was thankful to find several options that could be modified to enjoy, and 2 of the 5 of us ate purely veg options which is rare at many seafood joints these days! The others in our party enjoyed an oyster appetizer in addition to their entrees. We were impressed with the drink options and I even enjoyed a dragon fruit lemonade with a view of the water. Shared restrooms with the business next door made for a long line which was my only complaint of the experience, but they were up kept and other than the time away from my table it was still a relaxing meal with prompt drink refills and a nice view!
Stopped in for a very nice lunch on a rainy day. The special Thai muscles in Mango Curry were fantastic. We also ordered the shrimp scampi, and fried fish sandwich.
Visited off season by recommendation from local friends for seafood. I tried my first lobster roll here - it was amazing!!! Juicy lobster meat in butter packed into a brioche. Wow, just wow. We also tried fried jumbo shrimps in a batter and fried oysters. Everything waz fresh and juicy. Nice and fast service. Definitely recommended
Boston’s favorite realtor here with another review. I’m literally going to start this review off speaking about the waiter I had named Gary. I have been to this place over 20 times before deciding to give it a review and I just want to say that this guy is one of the best waiters I have ever had. He was so extremely attentive towards my 11-year-old daughter that it literally blew my mind. He knew what she wanted before she knew. At this point, the food could have been served in a dog bowl with kibble and I would have been impressed. Good customer service can literally level up a restaurant and make food that is good taste great. I feel like this is overlooked far too many times when you go out to eat. On top of that, the food was excellent and we enjoyed it very much, but Gary was the star of the show.
We had an incredible experience in the igloos, made even better by great food and top notch service by Dominic. He was attentive and kind. My mother in law is visiting from Europe and she already wants to go back.
This restaurant has some of the kindest staff. They are always so great with my kids and just incredibly accommodating. The menu is vast with a seafood focus but plenty of options for anyone. Great drinks and obviously great location too. On the pricier side but I think the cost matches what you get for food and location. This is always a safe spot for us to bring guests!
My first time at the Sea Level Oyster Bar in Newburyport was not an enjoyable experience on a Saturday date night recently. It didn't start well with the drinks and noisy atmosphere. Our server, Jennifer, took our orders for drinks, and we asked for a ginger beer for my partner and a dry vodka martini for myself. I am a bit particular about a martini and specifically requested that it be very dry, not dirty, stirred, not shaken. What I got was a dirty martini with not even a garnish. It was cloudy, with a slight yellow tinge, no garnish, nothing. My partner was not happy with his ginger beer and Jen said she would get him something else. I mentioned I wasn't satisfied with the martini, and she asked if it tasted ok, and I said it didn't taste bad but was dirty. She blew it off and walked away, bringing me some olives. We ordered the roasted haddock with mashed potatoes and the crabmeat-stuffed sole (mine). The roasted haddock was very good and my partner was happy. My sole on the other hand looked very impressive when it came, with the fish and sauteed spinach sitting on top of three whole-boiled potatoes. Three whole-boiled potatoes with nothing on them, seriously? When I brought this up to Jen, she said "Want me to bring you some butter?" which she did. It was a culinary flop. Had I read the menu in more detail at the time, I would have seen that the potatoes were supposed to be "smashed" and not whole. That may have been my mistake, but the server should have picked up on that and at least offered to take my plate back, which she didn't. Unfortunately, this will be our last visit to Sea Level Oyster Bar in Newburyport.
First time personally ordering from here. Both my partner and friend had come here not too long ago. I ordered a fisherman platter, but what I thought was a “fisherman platter” was a joke. I paid $40+ for some type of “combo” that came with 3 over cooked shrimp, 1 PIECE OF FISH, and whole 1/2 servings of fries and onion ring. I waited for a drink , one Bloody Mary, waited 15 min for someone to even bring a menu. I have never seen such a messy “top quality” restaurant. The employees could not even tell me what is in a specific dish. The manager had to come sort out multiple issues. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone trying to enjoy some fresh seafood. Instead, the manager offered “to get some scallops”, to eat with a cold plate of fries and 3 shrimp and 1 piece of fish? Soggy fries and onion rings, disgusting joke. I couldn’t even get back the right change. In addition, I just called the store, and they told me in fact it comes with fish, shrimp, scallops, etc. This all happened in a matter of 1 hour, what a damn joke. Rip off of money, terrible customer service and incompetent employees. What’s worst is, it’s father day, and instead of a nice dinner I got some terrible customer service. I hope this over priced place, can do better. Worst seafood place I personally have gone to here in newbury port.
