Came here for the first time for a late Valentine's dinner tonight and we really enjoyed it! Drinks, food, service, and atmosphere were all amazing (I was obsessed with the wasabi mashed potatoes!). Our waiter was super fun and readily available. We will be back for sure!
Fantastic upscale Japanese and Thai fusion restaurant off West Chester Pike. Cool decor, well-trained service staff and high end twists on classic Thai-, Japanese-, and Chinese-American dishes. The sushi rolls are masterfully crafted and the panang beef curry is perfectly cooked. Sesame chicken stood out as well. Cocktails are creative too with non-alcoholic options. Highly recommend.
If you love sushi, you'll love it here. So many things to choose from. The specials were just that, Halibut with asparagus cream sauce. Teriyaki salmon was also delicious! 2nd visit - The restaurant was bustling tonight. Our waitress was very attentive and our water glass was always full. We started out with the sushi special Kaisen roll which was exceptional. My husband had Tom Kai Ga soup, again very good. My husbands entree was the Chilean Sea Bass, excellent, and I had the Cherry Wine NY Strip. Unfortunately I wish I had gone with something else. It was not what I expected. I ordered medium rare and it was more medium and kind of flavorless. The cherry sauce was ok. The table next to us also ordered that special and I overheard she was also unhappy. I didn't say anything but should have. It won't keep us from going back but I think I'll stay with seafood.
I came here on Valentine's Day weekend with my partner and it was pretty busy. It took us about 45 minutes to be seated but we were fine with the wait. When it came to the food, we were in love. The sushi was so fresh and tasty! Everything was presented beautifully and the price point was worth it. The only downside was that my partner felt like the Thai green curry dish felt microwaved, but the sauce was great. We ordered the lobster fondue appetizer, king Kong roll, bluefin tuna platter, Thai green curry, and a mango sticky rice syrup with rum drink. Delicious!
Great experience at this restaurant. Our server was friendly and attentive. Never had to wait for the drinks or the check. The food came out quickly and everything was tasty. The duck was delicious. Crab spring roll was also a treat. Curry chicken had great flavor. And the sushi rolls were awesome.
Delicious food and great service! Will definitely be back!
-------- Update: Recently visited again, and again had an amazing experience! Here's our take on a few other dishes we tried. - Ube Cloud: the softest, warmest and purple-est bread ever with a very unique butter honey butter to go with it. (8.5/10) - Godzilla Roll: Was very curious about the strawberry, and combined with the other flavors of BBQ eel, tempura shrimp, etc, it was very unique for a sushi. (10/10) - Chay roll: Simply (10/10) - Wagyu Pho: The freshest ingredients whose fragrance wafted through the as the server brought the dish and was accentuated profusely after the server added the broth. So much balance! (11/10) - Tahitian Vanilla Bean Ice Cream: A great way to end the night. Even the size of the single scoop was just perfect! (10/10) Will definitely make future trips whenever possible! -------- Previous review: Had dinner with wifey here and it was absolutely lovely! Usually with a lot of big restaurant groups that own several restaurant brands you see a decline in service and quality, but this was the first time I've noticed such a restaurant group actually maintain their standards. We had the following: - Teikoku Rock Shrimp: Great texture and taste. Plentiful bowl to which was nice to pick at during appetizers. (9/10) - Tapas Platter: Everything on there was extremely flavorful. The gyoza was my favorite as the ginger tasted like it was allowed to marinate for a while. Only wish there was a tad more. (8/10) - Tom Yam Koong: Never tasted a broth like this before. The veggies it was made with also provided a light feel for the soup. (10/10) - Divers Scallops: Melt in your mouth well-crusted scallops. (10/10) - Thai Basil Lamb Chops: The Sauce, is all I have to say! But will also say, that the chops themselves were nicely done! While the mashed potatoes were great, wished it could have been paired with another side. (8/10) - Japanese Sweet Potato Fries: Unique glaze. (8/10) - Cheese'Z: Cheesecake. Interestingly airy texture, with same full flavor. Wish the portion was a tad larger, (but probably we were comfortably full after our dinner, so it was fine.) (9/10) - Passion Fruit Mochi: Really packed a punch! Never tried mochi like this. (10/10) - Low Key: A Zero-proof mocktail with a lovely citrus flavor! Always wish restaurants would use less ice so I can taste the drink fully for longer (9/10) - Tea & Cappuccino: Nice! (8/10) Overall we loved the atmosphere and layout of the restaurant. It does fill up even on a weekday. Also, portion sizes are respectable, so we appreciate it, like I said we were comfortably full after our dinner. Shout out to our great server Chris G!
Great birthday dinner for the wife this time around. Last visit I got the Omakase and was delighted! This visit I got the seasonal duck dish (pictured). Not my favorite but my wife’s drunken noodles were fantastic! (Spicy though FYI). I also highly recommend getting the seasonal bread appetizer. The seasonal dessert experience (4 courses) was also phenomenal. The first and last were the highlights, while the middle 2 were not really good at all. However, the first dessert was the best dessert I ever had in my life. So that made up for the next 2 and the last one was really good as well. Duck was ordered medium rare and came out medium well done. And the mochi potatoes were tasteless and disappointing so I could not recommend that dish (sauces were good though). The highlight of the dish was the onion and micro greens which were surprisingly very fragrant and flavorful. Service was on point as always too. So overall a good dinner and once again a great memory made.
We love teikoku. We go all the time. Tina is one of our favorite human beings. The entire staff is so kind. Don’t even get us started on how good the food is. You literally can’t go wrong with anything on their menu
First time here, daughter took me out to brunch! Sundays is a buffet style brunch with complimentary mimosa, tea, coffee, and/or soft drinks. The buffet items were delicious items from the evening menu as well as strictly brunch items. They’re was a Belgium waffle station, sushi station! The filet pieces were delectable! The vegetable selections included cooked broccoli and green beans, as well as an arugula salad and a mixed green salad. There was a fresh fruit table and a dessert table with the most decadent panna cotta I’ve had in a long time! The parfaits are made with homemade berry compote and they were delicious also! For drinks we overheard the manager telling another customer about the mango sticky rice drink, that was fabulous and we also tried a lychee lemon drop which was pretty good also! All in all we really enjoyed our visit, the food was delicious and we will be back!
The food was excellent, the service was quick and attentive, and the atmosphere was beautiful. The lobster tempura fondue was unique and delicious. The desserts were also top notch. This is an excellent restaurant to go to for celebrations and special occasions
Loved the Shrimp Udon and the taste was amazing it had the great flavor. Noodles were smooth in texture best I have ever tried. This is one of the fancier places I have been. The servers were amazing but due to some confusion I was delivered wrong orders. They took the responsibility of the issues and offered the dessert as a compliment. Overall great experience loved the food.
What an amazing birthday celebration we had last night! Our server (Derek I believe) was SUPERB! So helpful and accommodating! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We didn't realize it was possible to go into a 'sushi coma' until it happened - but there was no way we were going to let a piece go uneaten. :-) Hats off to all of your staff and your chefs, they are fantastic. We cannot wait to come back with friends and get the Surf & Turf roll again... which has now become my all time favorite! Thank you!
Amazing food with fast service and extremely attentive wait staff. The fried shrimp appetizer was delicious along with the miso chicken cups. The sesame encrusted tuna entree was phenomenal. We also had dessert and very much enjoyed the creme brulee and fried ice cream. Our first time here, but not our last! The food came out so quickly and the same with our cocktails. Our server was great and we were well taken care of!
We arrived around dinnertime (6-7PM) for a party of 2. It was very busy, but we were able to be seated immediately. The atmosphere is very upscale with a business casual vibe. No need to wear a fancy dress or suit and tie, but be aware that most people were wearing blouses, button-ups, and a nicer outfit in general. Thankfully, we were dressed appropriately. The restaurant is very dimly lit. If you have vision problems, you'll probably experience some difficulty navigating around the restaurant as well as the table itself. It seems as though some tables have a light fixture above them. Unfortunately, we were seated at a 2-seater table that did not have any light directly above us and we instead were relying on the ambient light to see what we were eating. If you're coming to Teikoku with a small party, you may get lucky with seating. If you have a party of 4+, I would recommend putting in a reservation. We were quite surprised how busy the restaurant was. The restaurant has a parking lot with a few parallel parking spots by the front. There is also additional parking behind the building, so if you can't find a spot right when you get into the lot, keep driving around back. We ordered the Surf and Turf Roll to start. It comes with 10 pieces. It has a very soft texture despite the fried lobster in the center of the roll. You can hardly taste the fried lobster at all, actually. The first piece of this roll was delicious, but I found that the more I ate the roll, the more I became bored of the taste. I think the lobster didn't have much taste, which attributed to this. The thin slice of Kobe beef on top was good, and there was some sort of cream cheese sauce, which added a kick of flavor also. Overall, this roll was good to try for our first visit, but I probably would not order it again. For my main entree, I ordered the Slow Braised Short Ribs. The short rib was moist and tasteful on the outside but was a bit dry as you got towards the center of the meat. The mashed potato that came with the dish was delicious. It was very smooth and buttery. I probably would have opted for a whole side of it if it was available. The spinach that came with the dish was also quite good. I would definitely recommend giving this dish a try because it was quite good overall. Overall, I would definitely recommend trying out Teikoku if you're looking for a more upscale, Asian-American cuisine. Just be wary that it is a little fancier, so the prices of the dishes will reflect that, but everything tastes good so it'll be worth it regardless.
Food is amazing ! From appetizers to main course and dessert! I also loved the service and cocktails. You should definitely ask for the TASTING MENU with Executive Sous Chef Huy Hoang ! The experience you get it’s unforgettable!
Looking for a place for a fancy date night? Impress your loved one with Teikoku. Fantastic service, sushi, and entrees. Their varied and great tasting menu has something for everyone.
One of our go-to spots. Today is my birthday and everything was great. Thanks, Tina, you always take great care of us!
Parking: There is a free parking lot. Atmosphere: I was genuinely surprised (in a good way) by this restaurant. I was expecting this restaurant to be empty being that most asian-fusion places in my experience are and being that this is located in the middle of nowhere off the highway. I was so wrong. This place was lively, packed and gave upscale vibes. I was worried we would not be able to get seating since we didnt make reservations (Highly recommend to rsvp). Service: Service was relatively fast. Server was nice and attentive. Came in to check on us and frequently refilled water and removed finished dishes. We sat at a table for two and server made sure to pace the rate at which our food came out to avoid overloading the table. Food was served chronologically. Food: Peking duck - This was a nice surprise. I was not expecting to see this on their menu. The duck tastes the same as the ones in authentic chinese restaurants. One difference is that the duck skin is crispy. This is also priced fairly. I definitely recommend this as a starter. Surf & Turf Signature Roll - The “surf” portion was kind of light in taste however it was a good balance for the “turf” portion. I didn’t like that there was something that tasted similar to cream cheese in this roll. Overall a good roll. Halibut - This was my first time eating Halibut so I dont have a good comparison. The Halibut was cooked nicely and the greens/mushrooms/creamy sauce complemented nicely. Would also recommend. Verdict: I definitely recommend this place. Would come here more often if it wasnt on the pricier side.
Great experience, highly recommend! The peking duck appetizer was great and perfect share size. The pistachio green tea cake dessert(pictured) was delicious! Usually I never order dessert when I go out to eat because every other restaurant has the same basic options so I was excited to see unique dessert options! All the staff here were so kind and attentive ! Plates cleared as soon as we finished eating, table wiped before dessert, everything came quickly. Overall a wonderful experience, great food, and attentive kind staff. Looking forward to coming back!!
A true hidden gem of Newtown Square and Delco. The atmosphere, both inside, at the bar, and outside is so relaxing. Wait staff are kind and knowledgeable. The food is out of this world. High quality ingredients, unique food pairings, and stunning presentation.
Great selection for Sunday Brunch! Too much to list but for the money, the food is top notch. Service is excellent. My entire group had a great time and all said it was worth the trip. We had a group of ten.
Excellent food, drinks, service and atmosphere. My husband and i ordered pan seared gyoza, sashimi platter, petite kobe steak with truffle mashed potato and king oyster mushrooms, everything was beautiful and fresh and delicious. Perfectly paired with Diamond dust sake, thanks to Larry our server who recommended it :) we enjoyed so much our dining at Teikoku
A day of drinking and cheesesteaks with Amigo Dan started at Teikoku. I was very excited because they have a Kobe Beef cheesesteak. This was a very good sandwich but not so much a cheesesteak. The roll was below average. The beef was buried under cheese, mushrooms and other flavorful stuff. The cheese and other stuff mixture was very very good.
A sushi lovers paradise. Teikoku has been serving up quality for a long time. The fried calamari salad was delicious, with a nice little spice to the dressing. The king kong roll was as fresh as can be and the pan seared scallop I tried was also very good. Nice interior decor and atomosphere, a little dark inside in some areas but all in all a great spot!
This is my first time here. Sat at the Sushi bar. All the chefs are amazing. ALL traditional recipes. I was served by Matt, who took his time to answer all my questions and made great suggestions. I will venture to say to ask for him every time you come here. He is attentive and kind and you can tell he cares for the customer
Best restaurant experience in ages. Food was so clean, fresh and tasty. Derek our server was the perfect balance of professional, attentive and kind. Can't wait to go back
We have been coming to Teikoku for over 10 years. The food is absolutely delicious, you cannot go wrong with any of there dishes. The presentation is fantastic. John is great.
Great food and service in a cool setting. Definitely a hidden gem. Sushi, noodles, rice...you can't go wrong!
Best Food........Omg!!! This is our spot !!......BEST SERVICE ask for LARRY ! fun, great humor & will do anything to make you happy . Provides Extraordinary Service
My boyfriend and I had such a lovely time. We got 2 cocktails, a carafe of sake, 2 appetizers, and 4 sushi rolls - we spent less than $200. For a swanky delicious spot like teikoku, that is so perfectly reasonable. Our server, Faith, was so sweet and lovely, truly she was part of the experience. Faith I see you girl you are a great server!!! The support staff kept our table clear of dishes and glassware throughout our meal and I loved that. Beautiful space, great food, fun cocktails, awesome staff. We will be back to try the omakase!!!
We had a wonderful first visit here and the service from Derek was outstanding! The fish tasted exceptionally fresh. Also, the Japanese milk bread special appetizer was SO delicious served warm with the cinnamon butter and yuzu cranberry sauce.
High quality food. Delicious. The waiters are super friendly and trying to cater every request. I asked for hot water and the waiter (a girl) brought me a hot water in one mug and the empty mug, so I could pour a water into the empty mug to gain the water temperature that I want. Such attention to details is very much appreciated. Highly recommend!
Thoroughly enjoy the Sunday lunch buffet here. A little on the pricey side but high quality food all the way from salad/starter/sushi to main dishes and desserts. Highly recommended! The setting and service are top notch.
I’m obsessed with the fondue - creamy, cheesy, and the tang from the Gorgonzola cheese doesn’t overwhelm. They also executed the tempura lobster and vegetables beautifully. While I enjoyed the sushi lunch and others in my group enjoyed their food, the fondue was the clear star. Teikoku has a tranquil, sophisticated atmosphere that we enjoyed for a leisurely lunch. It’s a nice option for a sit down meal in the Edgemont area.
We always can come here to eat! The food is always great! We haven’t had a bad meal yet! We been coming here for at least a couple of years! I had the Bronzino tonight! Awesome! Wife had the Salmon! Also awesome! Tom Yam soup was good! Spicy! Bruschetta was also good! Thai cake for dessert was also good! Cappuccino also was good! Full night out!
Went here to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The wait staff are very nice and very attentive. Prices are on the higher end but portion sizes are well worth the price along with the quality of food so I highly recommend. If you go while they still have the Ube bread, I highly recommend that as an appetizer. It was so fluffy and paired with the brown sugar butter, it was quite delicious. I will say though.. the lobster dumplings were nothing special. I probably wouldn’t get them again along with their teikoku rock shrimp appetizers. But I highly recommend their sushi and Chilean sea bass
Great fun dining, largely due to Derek, who was very helpful, patient and lively despite the late hour we went in. He suggested the right drinks and dishes, all the while having warm conversations with us. More than the place, it was him we are very thankful for. We all shared and loved the hot & sour chicken soup, Exotic wild mushrooms, Rick shrimp tempura, Salmon Teriyaki and spicy noodles. Fried ice cream, not so much. I loved the warm sake but saketini was a miss. Hunter and Euphoria found their spot though. Going back for more!
Enjoyed the meal. Server Jack was outstanding and no complaints there. Food was good, but not great. Sushi platter was excellent. Volcano roll was not appetizing looking. Taste of it was mid. Biggest issue was a huge delay from serving mains (which were great - Udon and Spicy Noodles) to two members of our party and serving sushi. The rolls came to one person at least ten minutes after the mains and the sushi platter took yet another ten thus resulting in the sushi platter eater getting their food at least 15m and maybe 20m after the two people who already had their mains.
4.5/5 Lovely place, but always full and definitely need a reservation. Thai crispy pork belly - flavorful, crispy pork belly with a Birds Eye chili paste and paired really well. Lobster Fondue - shrimp, lobster and veggies deep fried with tempura batter. Served with a mild, really milky cheese sauce. Would’ve expected a lot more lobster from this dish but only 2 of the skewers we it. Sauce could’ve been a bit thicker. Duck teriyaki - perfectly cooked duck paired with mushrooms and spinach. Slightly sweet and tangy and cuts through the duck perfectly. Thai basil lamb - perfectly cooked lamb chops with served with a silky mash. They offer spice level 1-5 and we picked level 5. Definitely has a kick, but isnt “blow your face off” spicy. Loved the dish!
Really nice ambiance. Classy spot with a large, diverse menu. Food was very good though portions were a bit small for the price. Limited craft beers. Very expensive meal and while good, not really worth the price compared to other restaurants in the area. But the food is good, menu is creative, service is friendly and ambiance is lovely. Just expensive for what you get.
Great ambiance and an interesting fusion menu, and felt like a fun date night place. Exotic mushroom appetizers: mushrooms were savory and perfectly sweet and salty, portion was more for a single person, and the mix had button mushrooms and shiitake, I think. Chef sampler sushi: fish was fresh and tender, 4 pieces, the rice didn't quite stick together though Thai basil lamb chops: succulent, cooked medium rare as requested, basil flavor came through, mashed potatoes were creamy but not overpowering Sesame crusted tuna: well cooked, portion was a little small, plenty of sauce but didn't really need so much, sweet potato mash and plantain were great compliments Honestly, I would give it more of a 3.5 but I think during these times there are some things that are just challenging and that's no ones fault! One of those is that the women's bathroom was a little unkempt (wet floor, 2 stalls without toilet paper) but I think they had a busy night and all the servers were attentive. It's a fun place to try if you're looking to dabble in some Asian flavors paired with more Western dishes.
Very good food and service. Portion sizes were acceptable, ambiance is on point. The whole restaurant is themed, and they did a great job at it. I had the shrimp pad Thai and the Asian tapas. Both were very good. Pad Thai was a little sweet which was a nice change.
I wish I could give this place more stars, but I think there is some room for improvement. Shoutout to the bartender because the drinks were amazing, and so was the entree. Service was also really good, and our waiter did a great job. Unfortunately, the sushi, which was the main reason why we wanted to try this place, was just ok. Dessert was also not great, and I think it should be a lot better to be on par with the kitchen and the drinks.
The food was excellent and the staff were wonderful when we arrived. What annoyed me was that we were told we didn't need to make a reservation for a Monday evening, but when we arrived, we had a 20-minute wait time. I expressed my frustration and disappointment. The hostess was apologetic and directed us towards the bar. We ended up having our entire meal at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The reason for a 3 rating is because our previous visit was a total bust. Their lunchtime hours of operation had changed, but their website did not reflect this. We rushed to get there for lunch but the kitchen was closed. So frustrating!
Went here for my birthday loved the restaurant, atmosphere and staff! But my mom and I got terribly sick not sure if it was from the alcohol or sushi but I have never been so sick before from a restaurant. It was great except whatever made us sick so we won’t be back but the place was very elegant.
Adding a 20% gratuity for the buffet is absolutely ridiculous for a party of six with a 4-2 split. I could see an automatic 10% as server is only bringing drinks not serving food. I used to like this place and ordered many takeouts but doubt I will be back.
Passed this place a ton of times but it's out of our way for dinner. However, we decided to go for our son's 18th birthday. Food was phenomenal and the atmosphere was great. The service was horrendous. Constantly waiting for our server to be seen and place our orders for appetizers, entrees, drinks, etc. She waited so long on desert that everyone just wanted to go. We sent the kids off and waited another 15+ minutes to get our check - never saw our server at all in that period. She finally brings the check and we asked if the to go sushi order was on that. She then takes that check and claims to have to "combine checks" for the to go order, but you can tell she forgot to place the order and ran over to the sushi chefs to put it in. THIS IS WHERE IS GETS BAD. When bringing the new check, she informs us that they automatically add 20% gratuity for "large parties". We were a party of 6 - SIX. Total BS. I wasn't gonna screw her that bad on the tip, but she knew she wasn't gonna get 20% due to her inattentiveness so she put the auto 20%. Classless move. We talked the whole time that we can't believe it took so long to get there and were already talking about who to bring back, but that absolutely ruined the experience and totally question ever going back.
I've been visiting and ordering from Teikoku for almost 15 years, likely over 100 times as it was a weekly lunch choice at work. We visited recently for happy hour (first time) and had the worst service ever. The hostess scoffed at us when we said that we came in for happy hour and eventually sat us in the bar area. When the busser came to pour our waters and we asked for a happy hour menu, he scoffed at us as well, and said he would go get our server. When the server came, he explained that the happy hour menu was only available at the bar and two tables next to us, which were occupied. Looking around the empty bar area that we were sitting, I asked if there was anything he could do. Again, a disrespectful response of no. We left on principle, feeling unwelcomed by all three people that we just spoke to. We instead went to Nectar in Berwyn where we had excellent service and food. I see no reason to go back to Teikoku.
Absolutely horrific experience. We informed our server four times about a life-threatening seafood allergy in our party. Despite this, he twice allowed the allergic individual to order dishes that contained seafood – seafood not listed on the menu, mind you! We only discovered this because we had to interrogate him; he clearly wasn't planning on disclosing it. The replacement steak with sweet mashed potatoes and onion rings were an insult – flavorless and poorly executed. And to add insult to injury, the onion rings were fried in the same fryer as shellfish, which we again had to pry out of the server. The dish was sent back untouched, and to top it all off, the manager couldn't be bothered to address the issue or offer an apology. Unacceptable. We will not be returning, and I strongly advise others to avoid this place.
