Always busy. Favorite bakery in Oakland. Favorites include: daily Vegetarian pizza, special cheese roll, cinnamon roll with frosting, cinnamon and sugar morning bun, currant scone, peanut butter cookie, blueberry muffin… you really can’t go wrong here! Tight space, so tables and chairs are always in demand. Fortunately you can always sit by the lake if you can’t find a seat at the cafe. I recommend parking by Trader Joe's where there's 2 hour free parking, because parking is hard to come by.
I love Arizmendi. I occasionally get the daily pizza and a small soup as a weekend lunch. The food is good, and it feels good for me. I didn't realize in the beginning that the pizza uses vegan cheese, but I really like it. It's got a consistency and taste similar to actual cheese. (I'm neither vegan nor vegetarian.) I enjoy the flavors of the daily pizza. It's not a traditional pizza, but the flavors work. I also appreciate that the baked goods are not too sweet. Expect a wait on the weekends.
Their green curry split pea soup of the day was superb!!! I also love their buttery castle olives in the fridge and the generous extra pizza slice. Did you know you get 10% off when you have your bike helmet? Great way to incentivize safety. Very kind staff, committed and jolly. A great experience every time. Their pecan chocolate chip cookies too ahhhhh! Their scones not so good or flavourful, just bland, in my opinion.
I love Arizmendi! The pizza is always quality. I love their soups and workers are so nice even though Lakeshore energy is wild (inconsistent). If you want to support locally nothing gets better than here. You can get healthy snacks or bakery stuff and I get the pizza as a gluten free person and the quality as well as sourdough doesn’t hurt my stomach and even helps (I have done significant work to be able to eat a wider range of food from time to time). When it comes to pizza I will always love this place. They have good hummus too and you can get 🥗 , 🍲 , 🥚 etc for healthier but still local options. All delish
This is my favorite local bakery. Their special cheese rolls, savory croissants, pizza, soup, and cookies are all off the charts delicious.
Been here a few times, pizzas are always good. Pastries and cookies are usually pretty good too. Have to check the site for the current options since they change daily but they post the schedule a week at a time.
The menu is quality through and through. I had their pizza of the day and it left me wanting to come back the next day. Pure deliciousness and fantastic prices. If you’re in the area, make this a requisite stop – you will not be disappointed.
Seriously one of the best local bakeries in the Bay Area. The staff is always friendly, and the pastries always sell out. We had a veggie pizza as well for dinner, and my boyfriend ate every bit! And he's a meat eater!
This pizza place offers something unique, like a citrus pizza. The taste is surprisingly balanced. I love the novelty of it, and the flour crust is delicious. Before I went, there was a person playing the guitar, which added to the cool vibe, even though the shop was a bit crowded. I have ordered pizza of the day and yes, they do only vegan options.
This was a great find for us while staying in Oakland! We stopped back for a second visit during our trip since we were so happy with the food and baked goods we got on our first visit. It’s a collaborative bakery that’s a great spot to try out some amazing varieties of baked goods. Everything from baguettes, cookies, muffins, biscuits, bagels, focaccias, breakfast breads…a whole spread. You can’t go wrong! Everything we had was amazing. The scone I had was as good as any I’ve ever had, and the same goes for the hot pepper and cheese focaccia bread. We also enjoyed their cinnamon buns and blueberry muffins. The coffee is also very good and they make it in small batches to keep it fresh. My daughter enjoyed their iced coffee. They also had cold beverages, fresh fruit, and salads, but we didn’t try that. We weren’t there late enough to try their pizzas, but from what we were told by locals, it’s amazing. Based on our experience, it wouldn’t surprise me! To top it off, the workers were super friendly and helpful, and they really move the line through efficiently. There’s no table service, but there’s seating available, either at longer community style tables, seating along the window facing the street, or outside on the sidewalk. Just make sure to remember to pay for your street parking at the kiosks along the street. I didn’t notice parking was not free and came back to find a $75 parking ticket from the City of Oakland! That’s not a typo. I made the right decision the next day on our follow-up visit and paid $1.75 for 35 minutes of parking! Next time we’re in the area, we’ll be back (and we won’t miss third parking kiosk)! Hopefully to try the pizzas too!
I can only dream of this type of business opening in LA. The pizza of the daywas delicious! It included: lemon oil, feta, tomatoes, feta, mozzarella. The sourdough crossiant was yummy! I may stop by there every day while I'm in the area.
Delicious vegetarian pizza and delectable pastries, capped off with fast service, a wonderful atmosphere, and a convenient location! Every day has something different for the pizza and pastries, so we will definitely be coming back for more in the future!
One of my favourite bakeries in the East Bay! I usually make the exit to load up on sweet and savory baked goods prior to the long haul home to Los Angeles. I've been a regular customer over the past 15 years and I haven't been disappointed. It is a co-op bakery that is self-service. All items contain no artificial flavours/ingredients and taste excellent fresh or reheated in the oven.
🤤🤤🤤 They have a unique and delicious cinnamon roll. Personally not a fan of the chocolate croissant but everything else I’ve tried is enjoyable! Affordable slice of pizza when I’m walking the lake and cheesy craving strikes. Usually a line, always efficient and friendly staff. Looking forward to tasting my way through the baked goods case.
If you happen to be around please make sure to stop by for a slice of pizza, pastries or bread. There might be a line - the wait is totally worth it, I promise. I love getting a slice to go and walk around Lake Merritt. They also have many drink options and soup. Their staff is super friendly and have a very cool ethos as a business.
Incredible pastries and crazy delicious thin crust sourdough crust pizza. Long lines but they move fast. They do have cheese pizza for the kiddos. The light bake option for the pizzas is brilliant if you're not eating it right away.
I love Arizmendi. With several of these co-op bakeries sprinkled around the Bay Area as well as other thin veggie options like Sliver and Cheeseboard, the Lakeshore location is my favorite. Their vegetarian pizzas are so consistently delicious regardless of the toppings and even better, their breakfast pizza on Sunday mornings make my weekend infinitely better.
The pizza. Is. Delicious. Not only is the crust thin and crunchy, but the flavors combine in a way that leaves nothing overpowered— I hate pizzas that make the ingredients compete! Service was nice, there’s barely any seating so plan to eat standing or head to the park if you’re visiting on a busy day. I’d totally recommend this place :)

Excellent pizza, in fact one of my favorites. The baked goods can be either B+ to A+ delicious depending on the item. That said, for the price, I do expect a little more premium quality along with better variety. 4.5 stars. Someone said paid parking but I think weekends might be free but I’ll check better next time. You can always use the Trader Joe’s parking lot across the street for free.
Updating my review to include pics from their remodel in early Jan 2019. Nice clean bright space now, still open kitchen, still not enough seating given the usual constant crowds. Food comments are still valid - love that's it's all organic and the business is employees owned. Awesome pizza, crispy yet chewy crust, and the almond snail bun and frosted cinnamon bun are my fav here. However, foccacia is too dense/hard, and scones aren't sweet enough, and aren't crumbly buttery enough :(
