Tip: Be careful with the salsas, especially the green one, as they can be very spicy. The line can be confusing for first timers - go past the serving line to the register to pay for order slip.

Some of the best tacos in Oakland! Don't sleep on the chicken taco, my go-to is usually 2 or 3 tacos: chicken and carne Asada. Highly recommend taking a moment to enjoy the space and eating there, the food will be warm, fresh, and delicious.
Got a burrito with just meat cheese and sour cream. So delicious! And it probably weighed 2 lb. Great value as they don't skimp on the good stuff
Insanely fresh, colorful tasty vibes and food. An absolute explosion of flavor and culture in this authentic Mexican joint, highly recommend
This was my first time there, I loved the food and the vibe of the place, and it was reasonable.
The best taqueria in Oakland! Tacos are amazingly yummy, lots of different meats, not just your standard chicken, carne asada, and carnitas. Love their lengua and cabeza tacos. Quick and easy service. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating but they do a lot of takeout business. A large salsa bar with plenty of fixins. Parking in the lot can be a challenge at times because the restaurant is very popular - may have to park on the street.
Taqueria El Paisa never disappoints. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and hits the spot every time. The tacos are packed, the meat is well seasoned, and the portions are solid for the price. My personal favorite is the tripa—crispy, cooked just right, and full of flavor. Service is quick and friendly, and the vibe feels very local and authentic. If you’re craving real, no-nonsense Mexican food, this is definitely a go-to spot.
Really delicious and fun atmosphere. The restaurant is filled with fun trinkets as decor and there's lively Mexican music. Most importantly the tacos were prepared right in front of you at the counter with meats cuts simmering and cut to order. The suadero and cabeza we're rich and delicious and the salsa bar has a ton of delicious salsa and side veggies.
The Tacos de asada were delicious very well seasoned no salsa needed to make them more tasty salsa was a good option to add for spicy flavor which was also good but either way both ways were delicious. The burrito de asada was very good too. But the tacos were like the tacos you eat in Mexico. Will come back for more!
Taqueria El Paisa is one of those spots that keeps you coming back. From the moment you walk in, it feels like a real neighborhood taqueria—simple, welcoming, and focused on good food. The tacos are the highlight for sure. The meat is flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked just right, and the tortillas taste fresh and warm. Whether you go for carne asada, al pastor, or another option, you really can’t go wrong. The salsas deserve a shoutout too. They add the perfect kick without overpowering the food, and it’s clear they’re made with care. Portions are generous for the price, which makes this place a great value if you’re hungry and want something satisfying. Everything comes out hot and fast, even when they’re busy. Service is friendly and efficient. The staff works hard and keeps things moving, but they’re still polite and patient, which makes the experience even better. It’s not a fancy place, but that’s part of the charm. If you’re looking for authentic, tasty Mexican food without the hype, Taqueria El Paisa is definitely worth stopping by.
One of the most authentic taquerias in the Bay Area I've been to. The asada tacos were extremely flavorful and delicious. The tacos has a homemade feeling about it and that's why I love it so much. One of the magical parts about being in this restaurant and smelling all the flavors and you can see the chefs preparing your food right in front of you. If you're in Oakland, do not miss this place, it's a 10/10 everything.
This is my favorite taco spot. I now live in San Jose and will drive to Oakland jist for these tacos. They're a bit on the expensive side but well worth it. They give you a lot of meat too. Be careful with the sauces because they're spicy 🔥 especially the one that looks like guacamole 😂
Tacos were legit authentic and so freakin delicious. I was in the Oakland area for sports and went out if way to come here. Let me tell you, so worth it! Hands down, one of the best tacos I’ve had in California. I am Mexican with Abuelita’s that cook bomb so trust. Lol.
Probably one of the most solid no-frills taco spots in Oakland. All of their meats are solid, the taco tortillas are warm and fresh, and there is a full salsa bar. I appreciate that the salsa is actually spicy (beware the green one!) and that you can pretty much adorn your tacos with anything one would normally want. Tacos come at a reasonable price and you can get them pretty quickly once you order.
I’ve been looking for a good taco that reminds me of childhood. Something with flavor and salsa that actually makes my nose/eyes water. I found it at this place. Even the simple rice and beans make me think of being a kid eating at grandma’s house. A taco is $4.50 at the moment but given our economy and surroundings it makes sense. But worth it. Really good authentic food. They also have a parking lot and boy do they get really busy during the weekend. Would highly recommend and definitely coming back.
Food was very well prepared. I had 6 tacos 2 al pastor, 2 buche and 2 carninitas! Also a pineapple agua fresca. The atmosphere was nice very chill relaxing vibe. The layout of the restaurant was very mexican classic looking, From the food pick up to the indoor / out door eating areas. Over all a great experience with very friendly and welcoming staff!
IMO, one of the best and most authentic Mexican restaurants I have been to. Great tasting foods. With cacti’s leaf and what I think is traditional roasted whole onion? The food so so very good and if I am in Oakland again, I will definitely go there. The location is a bit of a concern but they have uniform security guard. Come day time if it’s your first visit. We ordered pastor taco, asada taco, super burrito and my kids ordered some more exotic dishes, I forget the name. All were very good. Hands down must visit if you love Mexican and prove me wrong. You will thank me.
Excellent tacos here, very flavorful and well seasoned. Beef head and beef tongue tacos I ordered and there is a large selection of meat to choose from. I also bought the super burrito steak to go and It was delicious, so huge. I like the spicy guacamole salsa too. Great authentic mexican food here everyone should try this taqueria.
This restaurant has really authentic Mexican food! We ordered tacos and Asada plate, both were delicious and the portion was large. We love the grilled onions, very juicy, rare to find elsewhere. Salsa bar has salsas with three different spicy levels, pickled onions and carrots, and everything else. The only thing is that the parking lot was small, street parking seems unsafe and we had to take out
Just landed in Cali at Oakland International and it was less then 15 mins away. You know I love tacos and I was completely satisfied with the flavor of the meat, the tortillas, salsa bar and the nopal on top was delicious. Tripas and asada tacos were damn good and recommended this spot
OMG!!!! This place is insane!! Coming from the lone star, where everything is bigger 🤔? I was very impressed when I visited this taqueria. In the middle of trashed streets and sketchy neighborhood there is this gem. Portions are big, tasty, affordable, very hot sauce, plenty of tables for you to sit and dine in. Friendly service, not very clean but is understandable with so much people going in and out! If you go to Oakland make a quick stop and check this place out!
First time here and this is as authentic as it possibly gets! From the time you enter you get engulfed in the Mexican setting of the store, the smell the vibes. Food are prepared fresh per order and there is usually a line. I ordered 4 tacos (2x elpastor and 2 chorizo) and it was absolutely delicious. Mariachi singer to entertain you while you eat and a self serve sauce and condiments. The neighbourhood is a bit sketchy but that’s irrelevant here.
First time trying and everything hit the spot. The hot sauce ramped up in heat and all four had good flavor. The tacos were spot on and the meat was excellent. The super quesadill and burrito required a 4-man party to properly consume but for the daring adventurer going in solo I guarantee you an experience like no other.

Always amazing food and service! My favorites are the regular steak tacos, super steak tacos, or a chicken and steak super large burrito. Can't forget the agua de Jamaica or Horchata!

don’t often feel at home unless I’m actually back in the giant, restless sprawl of Mexico City. But stepping into Tacos El Paisa gives me a small reminder of it. The smell of meat on the grill, the shine of puddles on the pavement, the cumbia drifting through the air, and the steady chop of the cleaver on wood all pull me straight back to CDMX for a moment. I come here about once a month for the suadero with a sprinkle of chorizo. It hits the same every time: salty, rich, a little acidic, the kind of simple street food that reminds you why tacos became a national obsession in the first place. Even when the line gets long, it moves fast, and the place keeps its rhythm no matter how chaotic the parking situation is or how serious the security guard looks. But you can’t ignore what time has done here. Prices have climbed, portions have shrunk, and inflation shows its hand more clearly than anywhere else on the menu. Still, if you want a small taste of what Mexico can feel like, the noise, the energy, the honest flavors, El Paisa delivers. Smaller tacos or not, it’s worth the visit.
Fairly good, but also rather pricey. I like that there is a secure parking lot adjacent to the restaurant (but also the low was kind of packed so I'm not sure how "guaranteed" it is), and it is rea…

Food was good, service was fast but it is packed to much for one bathroom and the cost is a little much for the ugly, bad area
the food is ok but overpriced. 6.50 for a bottl soda is a lot and the tortilla is no soft and the tortillas for the tacos smells kind of bad.

I was very disappointed with my burrito and tacos. The chicken was super dry and overcooked. The beef brisket was also dry and tough. The parking lot is basically Costco and inside is hectic. The staff are incredibly nice. I was looking forward to a good experience considering online reviews but the only good part was the tortilla and grilled onions. Also my burrito had a few chopped up chicken bones. It’s been a few hours now and I just feel sick. I would recommend avoiding.
