An iconic pit stop, I've been coming here since I was little. A special charm at the Monte Penice pass. And the food is good.
Today I stopped for a coffee and I have to compliment the guy who works at the bar, he is so kind that I have rarely found him. I will be back for lunch in the next few days.
Stopped in today for a coffee, completely frozen from our bike ride. The guy at the bar was incredibly kind; without us even asking, he offered us two cups of hot water to warm our hands. With a small gesture, he demonstrated great courtesy... thank you, and see you soon.
July 2025, we had breakfast at this beautiful place and then returned for lunch. Relaxed atmosphere, good cappuccino, and excellent first courses. Young staff, quick and friendly. The view of the beautiful surroundings is worth it, as is a hike to the top of Mount Penice. Excellent
A charming restaurant located on the Penice Pass, offering a warm welcome from days gone by, and friendly staff. The menu is extensive and the dishes are fantastic. A well-deserved 5 stars. A few bends from the restaurant, taking the dedicated turnoff, we find the Sanctuary, offering breathtaking views.
I had a good time with the food, I had polenta with ribs and baked loin, strudel with cream. Polenta and venison and meringue. Simple, suitable for everyone, it is a relaxation point for motorcyclists. With a few more km you arrive on Mount Penice at a Sanctuary where you can enjoy a wide panorama of the hills and valleys...
I've been going there since I was a child with my grandparents, and even today you can still breathe that air of other times. The food is good, the cold cuts are super. If you're looking for a starred restaurant, forget it, but if you're looking for a place to eat something homemade and genuine, this is the right place. I read reviews of people who talk about rude staff, I've never had any problems, I think it's a question of approach..

Rustic, clean restaurant with a panoramic view of the Penice Pass. Excellent polenta with wild boar, game, or mushrooms at moderate prices. In August, in the midst of the summer heat, 6 degrees cooler than the plains are a blessing...

If you're looking for a cozy place to refuel after a day on the slopes, this place is a real gem! The location is perfect: just steps from the slopes, ideal for a quick break. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing, with wooden furnishings reminiscent of typical mountain style. The menu offers generous and tasty dishes, perfect for recharging your batteries. The service is quick and friendly, and the staff is always smiling and happy to recommend the daily specials.
A classic spot for motorcyclists at the top of the Penice Pass between Bobbio and Varzi. The service is quick and friendly, and the food is excellent. I've been there several times, and the piadina with Varzi salami and cheese is excellent. I also recommend the polenta with wild boar. Generous portions. The only downside is the bathroom, which needs updating.
Whenever I stop by Penice for a bike ride with friends, this typical mountain bar is a must! It's a great place, with plenty of seating both inside and outside. Huge parking lot. I've always had a coppa sandwich...what can I say... Coppa Piacentina DOP, always top notch! I highly recommend it even for a snack. I don't know about the food, but if they have a coppa like that, the food will be just as good!
Super basic prosciutto sandwich, a classic for a pit stop on the Penice Pass (a very beautiful one, I might add) with a view of the bend. The price is perhaps a little high; I had Red Bull too, and the sandwich was nice and plump, but the bread seemed a bit rubbery... A tip: throw in a couple of slices of cheese, perhaps for a bit of a contrast!

Very popular place, so reservations are essential as it's always packed. The food is delicious and top-quality; you can tell it's homemade. The service is super fast and the price is very fair (€10 for a generous plate)! I recommend it if you're in the area for a good wild boar or venison dish.
Typical mountain restaurant. A small, friendly place, not chaotic, but very quiet. Polite and helpful staff. The food is plentiful and good value! Very fast service. Fireplace and stove. The bathrooms at rush hour are a bummer...but if the people were more civilized...it wouldn't hurt. Prices are reasonable. Relaxing. Great for a post-ski getaway...we didn't like the coffee. They do receipts...not to be underestimated.
A truly quaint mountain cabin-style restaurant, all in wood with a roaring fireplace. Many inviting traditional local dishes are served, including polenta, braised beef, wild boar, cured meats, cheeses, and mushrooms. Prices are fair, and portions are generous. Recommended.

Unfortunately, the lunch was awful, surpassing the already poor reviews. Just a few kilometers down from the pass, you can find much better options for the same price.
Rarely do you experience flashbacks as intense as the one evoked by their pisarei e fasoi (a kind of pasta with beans), the same flavor as those reheated dishes from the elementary school cafeteria! I didn't miss them. As for the rest, the "boot" must be indicative of the self-styled chef's culinary skills. If you stop by, stick to the charcuterie or cheese platter, unless you suffer from post-viral ageusia.
