Really extensive menu different to all your usual chains. Cosy pub with lots of sections to sit in so it feels quiet even when it's busy. All our meals were spot on - starters, mains and desserts. All cooked to perfection and super tasty. Really can't fault anything at all. Service was also excellent
Some really nice bar and restaurant spaces in this old hotel. Stopped here for a coffee a few times as they're open to non-guests from 8.30 for coffee, cake, and breakfasts. Good coffee and service, with beautiful fresh flower displays, and dog friendly too. There's a lot to like here, so will be coming back to try the breakfast.
We had a afternoon Lunch with Ten Friends on new year's eve 2025 When we arrived we were made welcome by the friendly staff shown to our table and were served with our drinks and food very quickly, Myself and wife and all of my friends said that the meals they had were Fab, I must complement the Littleton staff they made our stay fun, it was so good we are all back in February for another group meal
A really good place to stay in the centre of Penkridge. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the rooms well appointed and the location very convenient. Easy walking distance from the railway station and the market.
I’m never one to write reviews but this place deserves only 5 stars. The staff are incredible, nothing is too much for them and the food is always high quality and super tasty! I’ve been in under many different circumstances but one thing I’m always in for is their takeaway goodies. They have fresh sausage rolls and other sweet and savoury pastries and cakes which I like to come in and take to work with me. The Littleton is a great addition to our lovely Penkridge. It’s great to have an easy pop in pub and then a high quality restaurant in the evening with food that you would travel miles for! Well done to everyone at the Littleton and Davenport’s, thank you.
Fantastic, the sharing platter roast was amazing, we especially loved the special ♥️ from Harrison for Heather and her happy birthday plate. Thank you & see you again soon
Special birthday treat for my husbands birthfay.food superb and the staff were most pleasant.thank you all
Where do I start from the outstanding customer service to the absolutely fantastic food this place has it all. Massive thank you to Gemma the manager for making us feel so welcome and the customer service her and her staff are second to none. For a beautiful afternoon out or a great evening with friends and fantastic atmosphere you can’t go wrong with the Littleton arms. 10/10 can’t rate this place high enough.
Oh wow, this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in for service. Jesse and her team took such good care of us and RoLo our dog. We arrived at 8:30pm and they still fitted us in for dinner. The food was delicious and bearing in mind the quality, quite reasonable. RoLo was brought water, a plate of dog biscuits and then his own sausage!!! The room was really cosy, and the sloping floor was quaint. Breakfast was huge and included, and RoLo got bacon, sausage and smoked salmon in a bowl. We have rarely been so well cared for 100 out of 10 to Jesse and the team for making us feel welcome and cared for. I cannot recommend the Littleton Arms highly enough. Amazing!!
love warm cosy ,Sunday dinner lovely, well cooked and fresh, bit expensive but very nice visit
Fabulous Sunday meal. Went for the shared platter. More than we could eat, frankly, and perfectly cooked. Would highly recommend.
What a nice little hotel. The staff were ALL excellent. Its a great, well run little place.
I visited this venue on New Year’s Eve with a group of friends and had a fantastic experience. We ordered food to start, and the service was excellent. Despite how busy the venue was due to the New Year celebrations, our food arrived very quickly, which was impressive. The venue itself is lovely, and all of the staff were extremely attentive. After our meal, we were moved to a table in the bar area. It was incredibly busy, but the bar staff were doing their absolute best to ensure everyone was served as quickly as possible. I would definitely recommend this pub and will certainly be returning with friends and family in the new year.
We recently returned to The Littleton Arms and it continues to impress. On my first visit had the Monkfish and Prawn Panang Curry, which was absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. However, this time we came for the Sunday Roast, and it did not disappoint. The Staffordshire Roast Sirloin of Beef was incredible—perfectly cooked, tender, and easily one of the best roasts ever. Beyond the food: Drinks: A great selection of beers (the Guinness was poured perfectly). Atmosphere: The decor is fantastic—stylish, cozy, and welcoming. Service: Top-notch. The staff are friendly, attentive, and make you feel right at home. Whether you're looking for a refined curry or a traditional Sunday staple, this place is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back again soon!
Booked a table for lunch with a friend. I was aware it’s changed hands, now owned by Davenports. They have redecorated to a high standard and changed some of the tables and chairs - the atmosphere is still a lovely relaxed vibe. The menu is perfect, a mix of some regular pub classics and unusual dishes such as venison, and also a monkfish curry. I had a lovely beef ragu with pasta cooked to perfection and my friend had a beef burger. The drinks were perfect - great pints of larger. Overall a lovely visit - I’ve already booked another visit . 2nd visit was just as good. Tonight I had chicken tikka kebab with a fabulous sauce, yogurt and rice. I called a couple of times and spoke to Gemma and Megan to change the booking-they were helpful, friendly and immediately sent a text to confirm the changes- excellent service👏👏
booked in on the way up last minute as did not know what time I would arrive, Receptionist on the phone was excellent and answered all my questions. Arrived and was greated with a nice smile and was shown the room which was comfortable and clean, Went down and enjoyed a lovely duck breast with rice and a nice pint. Location is great just off the motorway . Totally diamond of a find would highly recommend this as a stop over.
Brilliant place to eat and drink. Food was absolutely brilliant. And all staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Even to come out for a drink, Libby on bar was very welcoming when we came in and sorted our drinks quickly on a busy evening.
Beautiful pub! Decor is gorgeous, staff are welcoming and food is out of this world! The food is always hot, fresh, tasty and served with a smile and in good time. We’ve been coming regularly for a while and the new menu is bringing in so many new people, we have to book now to make sure we get a table, couldn’t be happier to have this gem just down the road! My favourite is the dolce latte chicken, super tasty!
Gorgeous Christmas family meal this evening. Food was beautiful and came out in great time. Waiting staff were friendly and the restaurant was done out beautifully in Christmas decor. Will recommend and we will return.
Excellent meal and great service from the lovely staff. Visited as an adult family of five. Steaks cooked to perfection and all meals nicely presented. Thoroughly recommend.
Lovely little place for a quiet coffee or pint. Nice staff and atmosphere.
Food and service always good. However I was disappointed to find that they had redecorated and I felt that the rustic look which was always so charming and in keeping with the age and history of the building had in large part disappeared..
We had a meal in the restaurant, so can’t comment on the rooms. First impressions were of a beautiful old building, with decor in keeping with the age of the property. There was a good choice of dishes on the menu. The food was very good, however the service was poor! We ordered 2 drinks…only 1 arrived at the table, and we had to ask again! After the main course, we were NOT offered any desserts or coffee, needless to say, no tip was left. Come on Littleton, you can do so much better than this!!
I had dinner with friends who were staying at the Littleton Arms. The menu is varied and extensive, catering for a wide variety of tastes. Our table was "sticky" and had to be wiped. The problem seemed to be the "eco-friendly" surface cleaner softening the varnish. The food was good, but not memorable, and portion sizes were modest but adequate. Prices are reasonable so the meals were good value for money. Staff were polite, friendly, and helpful. There was love music on the Saturday night that I visited. The music selection was good, though the performer only mediocre and far too loud (any conversation was impossible) for a dining room. It might have been bearable in the bar, but detracted from the dining experience. I would go again, certainly, but would avoid a "music night" if I were wanting to eat.
Just had a lovely lunch with my oldest friend the food was delicious. The only thing that stopped me giving 5 stars was the lack of procecco!! But we had rose yay!! What made the meal so special was a very attentive waitress I think her name was sara.(Blame the rose procecco 😂) She was amazing and a credit to the Littleton arms. Thank you xx
First visit, beer was excellent wasn't bothered about the price as perini my favourite beer, the barmaid could of been bit more friendly she looked miserable, not alotof seats if you just want a drink.
Visited for Sunday lunch. Restaurant is warm and cosy, food was absolutely delicious, one of the best Sunday roasts I've ever had. Service was awful though - nearly an hour for food to arrive in a less than full restaurant.
Staff were friendly, food was decent but our table which was booked was rescheduled by the restaurant last minute due to them over booking on this date so we had to delay our arrival which was inconvenient then additionally to this we waited 2 hours after ordering before we recived our food causing further inconvenience. There was no apology for this delay and we had to ask about the status of our orders. So this definitely affected our experience.
We stopped in for an early lunch, the service was below parr, my partner's coffee was Luke warm!
The food here can be a bit patchy these days. However, I do want to say that on our last visit, the waiter Neil, was absolutely outstanding: he remembered that my parents liked a particular table and asked if we’d like to move to it (we did) and just provided great, friendly service! 👍
Lovely location for Sunday lunch, thought the meal was a little pricey but enjoyed it
Same Littleton it's been all my lifetime but brighter with good outside seating area - service was mighty slow with only 1 person at the bar on a sunny Saturday evening - solid pub and food
The decor in the pub is lovely. Cosy, welcoming and contemporary whilst keeping in touch with the age of the building. The food we had was absolutely delicious and it was well presented. The staff were all lovely and friendly, however the service was INCREDIBLY slow. It's been two days since our last visit and i think we'd still be sat waiting for our desserts now if we'd not asked for them. There didn't seem to be any initiative or up selling happening. We had to keep approaching them for drinks and plates were not cleared away swiftly.
The staff are just not on the ball, we had Breakfast here and a simple change from fried eggs to poached and white bread to brown was to much of a challenge, the ingredients are first class, can’t say the same about the service.
Service quick to take mains but slow to provide desert board and even slower provide bill when this was midday and wanted to get on our way. The meal was excellent, the dumbar draft was also excellent. Will visit again and be more Proactive with the person who serves us. 🤔
Went for Saturday dinner. As soon as we sat down live music started and it was rediculously loud we couldn't hear each other speak. Menu selection was disappointing and a rather bizarrely you couldn't order off the Christmas menu unless everyone in your party did?? The pub was extremely hot and I left with tinnitus flaring up! Food was ok but not worth the price. Car park quite small but extra parking is directly the other side of the pub.
£15 for a breakfast, 1 mushroom, no hash brown and wafer thin black pudding. Yes it tasted ok but not worth that price when you can get the same at nearby places for a lot less. Not returning!
Ok we arrived at the busiest time 2.30 Sunday in search of a Sunday lunch so must make some allowance for that. We ordered roast lamb, fortunately I like it pink because half mine was completely raw which would have been fine except it was mostly gristle and I couldn't cut it. My partner's meat was better. What I could chew was very tasty but for some reason the chef had decided I must like black pepper and had generously applied it to the otherwise perfectly cooked parsnips and carrots. The roast potatoes had been rather case hardened and again liberally sprinkled with black pepper. I hate pepper, just a little is enough to make my mouth burn. Why is it increasingly the habit of kitchens to add it to meals whether you want it or not. I can't be the only person who wants to taste the food not the pepper. The tiny portion of other veg I suspect was meant for one person but they forgot the second one. It was unusual to be served one thin slice of raw leek between 2 people.
The pub in itself is quite nice. We all had roast dinners they were adequate certainly not worth the 17 pounds that they cost. The service was slow roughly an hour before it arrived. So all in all rather disappointing.
Came out for a family meal. Took a long time to get each course and when arrived it was cold and dry. No table check took place. Dirty glasses not removed off the table. So disappointing as we’ve eaten here many times before and it’s been good
Our original waiter was amazing however when we had a complaint to make about our food ( burnt and greasy burger, watery cheese sauce, cold starters) the manager was argumentative and just plain rude. Will be not eating here again.
Took friends here for an evening meal, service was shocking! Took a while for our order to be taken, then only 3 out of 4 drinks arrived, had to go to bar for further drinks and table service was non existent. When we got to the bar, the bar staff stood talking or looking into thin air rather than serving the customers, we had to ask to be served a drink. The bar staff standing around is a regular issue and we’ve experienced this on multiple occasions. It’s a shame that we’ll now think twice before booking a meal here again as the food was good.
I stopped in for breakfast with a friend and the staff were friendly and we were served quickly but the food was very poor. I have a bagel with scrambled egg and smoked salmon and it was so dry. The eggs were very dry and crumbly it was almost inedible as the knife would no cut through the bagel so had to tear at it with my hands like a savage. Would not recommend for breakfast.
Called up to reserve a table for 5 to be told that the earliest slot they had was 5:30pm. Arrived at 5pm and it was empty, plenty of tables and were seated immediately. Roast dinner was average, only had 2 roast potatoes that were dry, however the lamb was lovely. The food arrived lukewarm. Service was terrible, felt like they were all teenagers. One of the staff member was slouched across an armchair on their phone whilst one was drawing pictures to pass around on their pad of paper, which I assume is meant to be for writing down orders. All of this while we were waiting to be served. Never again. You’re probably better off at a Toby Carvery than this place.
Me and my partner go here regularly for date nights and the food is always impeccable, though tonight when we went we ordered the steak. It was terrible. Over cooked steak (i was pretty sure mine was pork). . It was tiny, so thin and white. The chips were over cooked too. My partner had the same as me but his steak looked like steak and was cooked to his preference, but still tasted burnt somehow. I didnt touch my main and my partner barely touched his. The starters were incredible though but we paid £80 for essentially 2 starters and 2 orange lemonades. Very disappointed and feeling slightly ill after that. Such a shame. The staff, as always, were great though.
Do not go here if you are strictly gluten free! It will make you extremely ill! Please do better when you claim to have gluten free on the menu, when also being told a child is gluten free! The after effects on cross contamination have massive consequences for coeliacs!
Extremely disappointing- been there today - food was average BUT long wait for service & there was only 8 people in there so not busy Huge delay on ordering & between courses Then they tried to overcharge by £6 Waitresses were not bothered about anything … didn’t bring condiments when asked … Don’t waste your money Would not go back
Lovely pub but the food was bland and took a while to come out, one of the managers I believe her name was Gemma made us feel very unwelcome. We will not be returning sadly, such a nice pub with potential.
Terrible experience and very poor value for money. A family of 11 booked for lunch at 5pm on a Sunday. From the beginning we were told that a few of the starters had already run out. When it came to mains they also told us that 3 people needed to change their orders because they would run out of chicken. This is worrying as it was only 5 o'clock. With the mains changed we asked if they could at least honour the stuffing from the chicken option as they were made to choose beef. They said this was OK but then tried to charge for it at the end of the bill! 2 of the family are celiac so asked for gluten free options. Although the waiting staff did keep asking the chef if the items contained gluten, they should really be confident knowing this before coming to serve. When the gluten free options came, items had been removed and not replaced with an alternative but still charged the same price for the meal. The food in general was not great, served warm not hot and the portions were tiny! We were all expected to then share 1 bowl of veg and gravy between us. We all ended up with very little on our plates and in no way justified the price charged. Would not recommend or return.
This is a review of the restaurant not so much the hotel. We have been regular users of this establishment for quite some time there as recently been a change of menu and a hike in prices. The food there as always been amazing to be fair. But our last visit was awful it wasnt so much the mains it was the starters they have now gone mega small and the samosas where vile tried to pass off some stuff that tasted like it had been sprayed with something soapy as indian pickle. Didnt help we was asked how our meals where and the waiter worked off before i could answer which i found rude. Spoke to the manager leaving and said we had not enjoyed this visit offered us a refund on the samosas. We declined and just said we wont be back and we wont
I visited with my husband and son on Sunday for a couple of drinks and wasI shocked to find out that they charge £3.80 for half a pint of Aspall cyder but £5.60 for a pint!! Surely it should only be £2.80 for half if a pint is £5.60!!
Met family here for lunch.Waited an hour for service in chilly room. Crispy duck salad was tough and inedible and was returned. Pork belly nearly all fat and therefore inedible. Other 2 mains were of a poor standard. Had to wait again for sweet menu and again service was poor. Cost of 1 main meal was removed from final bill. A very disappointing lunch and won't be visiting again . No explanation given or apologies for such a long wait for service.
Service last two visits very poor Staff more intent on cleaning up to shut rather than serving waitng customers having used the pub for some 30 yrs very disappointed 11 01 sorry we are closed 10 55 I'll get some for you? Previous visit forgot to call time no bell rang at all 10 01 sorry stopped serving neads to inprove and find staff that actually want to be the and work in the service industry customer first not how quick can I finish Nead To sharpen up
We were a large group of 16 for Sunday lunch. We had called ahead and pre-ordered to make things a bit easier. Despite this the orders came out in dribs and drabs, we had to ask multiple times for various dishes. Unfortunately the majority of the food was disappointing. The beards were left on the mussels, the soup was bland, the beef on the roast was tough as old boots, the lamb was just all fat, the accompanying cabbage tasted of just vinegar and star anise, roast potato was dry. It really was a shame as we came as a group last year and the food and service was really great then! We’re not convinced we’ll be returning for our annual meet up next year!
