We love all the different Yanagis Sushi on the central coast and this one was no different. A nice, smaller location compared to the Beni Hanna inspired larger location just down the street.

If you love the Yanagi sushi tepanyaki restaurant that overlooks Pismo beach, u will love this place. Great sushi, better prices, it just lacks that amazing view. Update -8/24/2023 We had dinner here to celebrate my son's 20th birthday. We were a party of seven and we're well served with a lot of fun. The server gave us plenty of tips on new dishes to try and we appreciated his interaction and advice.

Been coming here for over a year now. We receive excellent service every visit. They always have high chairs if we need it. They are kind enough to give us a bowl of sushi rice for our toddler(We do pay for it), many places will only give regular white rice. The udon is great. The sushi isn’t cut too big and ingredients are fresh. Very family friendly restaurant. Has a sushi bar. Authentic sushi chefs, it’s not some random cal poly douche student workers. Don’t skip this place, you’ll love it.

Food was Incredible. Probably the best fried rice I have ever had... So much flavor. Sushi was very fresh. Didn't know what to expect from the fried oyster roll, but it too was delicious. Staff was friendly abd very helpful.

Delicious, fresh, and comforting food. Yanagi’s has a great menu of sushi rolls, appetizers, and soups. The WOW sushi location is best for a quiet get together where you can actually hear the other people at your table. With inviting decor and private dining rooms available for a reasonable fee this place is my favorite sushi place in the five cities. I was happy to pick up some rolls last night for my boyfriend and I to share and everything was ready in 15 minutes. Normally I would prefer to dine in but they are only offering takeout at this time during Covid. Staff and chef greeted me kindly when I arrived and my check out was friendly and efficient. I enjoyed a Sunshine Roll, Yanagi roll, and baked dynamite. So good.

First of all service was friendly and great through and through and that really is the entirety of my rating. Sushi however: fish quality was high (signs of high quality picking) but the cuts of fish for the price were small and not very flavorful. The caliber of the sushi is not much beyond average. The sushi rice could have used more vinegar and fish cuts themselves were tiny. Huge plus for offering FRESH wasabi and not that bright green horseradish stuff masquerading as wasabi.

In a quaint plaza around Pismo Beach, you will find Wow Yanagi. Visit for some sushi and fresh fish on specials.

The udon is great on a cold day! All their rolls are delicious and they provided great service. I saw Korean BBQ short ribs on their menu if you aren't looking for just traditional sushi.

Staff was very friendly and good sushi. Free edamame was a nice perk. Loved the albacore delight and hot night rolls. Only part that was less than desirable was the yami yami roll. We didn't expect it to be so sweet, so it took us by surprise.

I went here with a friend, and ordered three sushi rolls. These rolls were hilariously small and so thin - it left me very hungry afterwards for more, but I just couldn't afford it. $70 later - we went to taco bell across the street and got some cheap tacos

They allow there employees to smoke outside the restaurant and the smell travels inside. It is atrocious.

Pretty lame, the food is okay. I would take every 5 star review on here with a grain of salt. Lackluster rice for ~$15-$20 per person.

I ordered to go. When I ordered shrimp tempura roll I expected tempura on the roll. This particular roll has just the tail ,and supposedly shrimp tempura in the roll. Not at all what I thought I was ordering. The crunch roll is what I was expecting and since they don't have a clear shot of the REAL menu, there was no way to distinguish one from the other and the person who took my order didn't ask me which one I was ordering. And when I finally got the correct order, they barely put any shrimp on the so called "crunchy roll" and they're was very little shrimp to begin with in the regular "Tempura roll".I will not be back here for the lack of customer service and listening ears.

Great food, however they've made their rolls smaller, and unless you want horrible service and an hour wait just for your drinks, don't get a private room. It's even worse because they add the tip into your bill plus $15 just for the room so they don't have to give good service since the tips already included.

Atmosphere is pretty average for a Japanese restaurant, service was OK but not as good as I would have expected for how few customers were there, the Ramen was pretty basic, almost like someone just added a few vegetables to packaged Ramen, my girlfriend barely touched her udon, and I've gotten better California roll and spicy tuna rolls from a grocery store

Great place to go if you want to A. Wait 15 mins to take your drink order. B. Wait for the server to ever come back for anything. They never refilled our drinks. Never asked us if we wanted anything else. It took 15 minutes for us to flag down a waiter and ask to pay and then another 5 minute wait before we asked them to please take the payment so that we could leave. Also beware: tiny portion sizes, but don’t worry there’s a taco bell across the parking lot.

Came at 209pm. Sign says closes at 230pm. Food is good. But nothing worst when cook says closing because no customers. Not good business practice.

You need to set your google hours correctly. Im sitting here at 3pm on a monday and google says u r open. But your window says you are closed. Verrrrrrrrry annoying.

I asked for the sunshine roll which always has come with the same sauce instead I received a totally different sauce and when I asked what's wrong with the sauce she said it's the house sauce even though it never had soy sauce in it I told her can I just have it with the soy sauce with a red spicy sauce and she said no then I asked her what are the different types of sauces available and she refused to cooperate and said that's the sauce that comes with it I walked up to the counter and the chefs helped me figure out a suitable sauce and I asked for a plane Sunshine roll so I could add the sauce I preferred then I sat there for 20 minutes with no food left on the table swimming in the sauce waiting for a roll that took them 2 seconds to make at first the waitress is rude and argumentative and does not care about customer service the only exception to this visit being awful was the owner lady who had helped me figure out a suitable option

Poor quality seafood, very Americanized sushi, and rude service. If I could give this place zero stars, I would.

I'm so sad having to write this review. I just went in tonight with my 2 younger children, and left there feeling so let down. The young daughter and mom accused me and my family of renting a private room (which we never have) and said we had disrespected her and her mom. They had me and my children who were starving and were so happy to eat there, sit there and wait about 20 minutes after I had ordered all our food and waited all that time to talk to us. We have recommended this place so many people and have even brought them other customers to their business. And they wrongly accuse us of being disrespectful. I will be called the BBB and reporting them. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Next time you try to accuse someone of doing something wrong, make sure you've got the right person. I will never come here again and I will recommend other people to go to different sushi restaurants.

Our experience at this location felt a bit too casual and below quality. We had to wait for a lot of things over 10 minutes such as seating, drinks, getting the receipt and having them take our payment. Some of their items were a bit bland, their miso tasted watered down. Their teriyaki chicken was almost like it was steam cooked without any flavoring, grilled really quick for grill marks then lightly drizzled in sauce. I was also a bit surprised that a lot of their items were overpriced with small portions. The food to cost ratio was way off.

My friend and I were very hopeful and happy to come here as we have been loyal customers for years. I had ordered two avocado and cucumber rolls and to my surprise the seaweed was fishy.. first off ew. I could get past this, I'm not one to complain or give up especially when I was that hungry. I tried to eat it but there were LITERAL SUGAR CLUMPS IN MY ROLL. Meanwhile my friend got a golden California roll and had let me know that the crab did not taste right, like it had been sitting stagnant for weeks. Again we are not people to complain but these rolls were completely inedible. We respectfully tried to let our server know, but he was always busy chatting with coworkers(sushi chefs). We finally flagged down another server and she disregarded almost everything we had mentioned. We didn't even want a refund or reorder, we simply were letting the staff know of a food quality issue.

We really wanted the sushi experience and the pismo location was booked with an hour wait. So we call this location to see if they have availability, they said they did over the phone. When we arrived it was a different story. We wait 10 min to be seated, no big deal. But then we order our drinks and get served with some lame plastic/paper cups. Dinner was just as bad. My roll was so small too! I am never hungry after 1 roll at the pismo location. I get it’s covid, but we have been out to eat at several places. No one has served us with plastics/paper cups or plates. The plate was the size of an appetizer plates... Just to give you a visual.

Used to be good. We got done eating and made it home just in time to fight over the bathroom. Theres definitely something fishy about their sushi. We are both sick from top to bottom if you know what I mean. WILL BE CALLING THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT

First of all, the food is good, especially the tempura... We ate here once before, several months ago and experienced friendly, courteous service... Today, it was just the opposite... The waitress was much more interested in flirting with another employee and playing with her phone than taking care of her table (yes table, ours was all she had while we were there)... I had to bother them to get a tea refill and get take out boxes... Even though they close at 2:30 pm, she left at approximately 2:20 and didn't tell us or leave anyone to serve us... Another negative I observed was one of the sushi cooks standing behind the counter, in plain sight, drinking cough medicine, gross!... I'm very disappointed and will go back to the Yanagi on James Way where I'm appreciated, definitely not to Wow Yanagi... Sad...

Poor service, understaffed. Couldn't place a to go order on the phone because nobody answers the phone. Walked into the restaurant hoping to place the order in person, but was unable. Customers at the tables were flagging servers down to get their attention and service. I waited about 15 min and nobody greeted me. Nobody was available to talk to. So frustrating. Walked out disappointed that my efforts were in vain. Will never go back.

They had the audacity to serve me instant ramen noodles with cabbage and charge me $19. Then when I expressed feeling tricked and wanted to send my food back, the waitress became very defensive and took the bits of chopped up noodles my toddler was eating, saying “Well I have to take these too then.” The sushi was aggressively average in quality and overpriced. Just skip the hassle and go to Sushi Kokku if you’re on a budget or Umi Sushi/Kanpai Sushi if you want something really delicious.

If there's an option with less than 1 star, we would rate that. My family member got a terrible stomachache afterter eating lunch rice bowl from here. I thought we would have to go to ER. Our day has been ruined after had lunch food from this place. We picked up the food and the food were cold. My teriyaki chicken combo was a joke. The portion was small, chicken pieces were tiny and dried. Other pork lunch rice bowl was even worse. It looked like a kid rice bowl and we paid 16$ for that little box. This is the worst experience in our life with Japanese food. Skip this place if you would want a safe trip for yourself.
