I’m not Mexican but American and this really surprised me. I thought it was going to be a full Mexican average dining place like the ones you would find anywhere but Mexico but this is so good I saw a boat and the service is great they call you “Familia” which I think means “Family” which lighted me up! And the food is great I ordered the Pollo soup and it was great so good and the Churro was good also! And the ambience was/is great because you see salamanders, and turtles! Also behind there’s a jungle which adds up and the feeling is just great. I recommend this place A LOT! 100000 stars.

La Laguna was absolutely beautiful and magical at night. I came here with my fiance for drinks after dinner (didn’t eat here) and we were seated on the outside patio right on the lagoon. Lighting and ambiance were spot on. Our server Edwin was fantastic and made us feel so welcome. He was very attentive and made our experience so much more enjoyable

It's a buffet breakfast so the atmosphere is already fighting an uphill battle, however it is clean, bright, airy and well appointed. Staff are attentive. Food is good quality, plentiful with a wide variety. Everything you would expect for breakfast plus some things you wouldn't eg. beef soup! Some specialty stations where you can get tacos to order, omelette as you like it and pancakes fresh off the grill... griddle... hotplate? One of those... or maybe it's called something else.

Cooking class with Chef Ivan Salinas was an unforgettable experience. We learned the history of the culture, the flavors and the combinations. We enjoyed the privacy of the class as well as the knowledge of the chef. The food we cooked was steak with sauce and it was great. The chef even joined us for the tasting and shared his personal experiences on his quest to become the chef at La Laguna. Highly recommended.

Excellent place! The location is perfect, a great place to watch the sunset over the mangroves. The view is incredible and a really nice place to connect with nature. The breakfast is excellent. Plenty of options and many good dishes. Chilaquiles and ribs are excellent. Cheeses, fruits and fresh seafood is excellent. Plenty of options. The staff is very friendly and experience-oriented. Simply the best service. The food is not as great on other times of the day, but between the breakfast, the staff and the setting I give it a 5. Arrive early or at off-peak breakfast hours to get a good view of the mangroves. Come back for a drink and snacks in the afternoon to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets you will get to see.

We came here often for lunch given its convenient location to our Casita. The tacos are the best here. Achiote fish taco and beef taco. Also I really like crudites (jicama, cucumber and carrot) served with Mexican salt and dip. Skip the kid's hamburger. Served with bread and the beef patty quality is not great. Pozole Salad is so so. I don't love pozole in salad. Much better in soup. May need a splash of lime to elevate the flavor. This place may be the most popular for breakfast.

Excellent breakfast spread. Pretty much everything you could want and all of it quite tasty. The best dining experience in the resort. The omelette station had huitlacoche which was a pleasant surprise. We were charged a different price for the breakfast buffet each day, which seemed shady. We had breakfast included in our package so the charges weren't kept, but still something to keep an eye on if you don't have it included.

Good service, the food is a hit or a miss. It is hard to blame them for catering to their non native visitors by having muted flavors. Try the nachos with oxaca cheese. The corn side dish is spicy, but yummy. Consider sitting outside for the cool breeze and the entertainment provided by the turtles and fish.

Great location, staff was perfect; funny, welcoming, smart, attentive. Sunset over the Mangroves. Food was just OK. Fish was smothered (get mole on the side), the Queso Fondido(sp) was impossible to get off the pan, the tacos were average at best. Except the short rib taco- very good. It was supposed to be a Tequila bar but not so much (it's a Mexican restaurant in Mexico with a sign that says Tequila Bar...what was I thinking!) You see, gringos like me want a flight to try, explain why these tequila's are special, what is blue agave...etc.. etc. Not here. If the staff was wasn't so good this is a 1.5 star. Sorry guys.

Incredibly bland and salsa is absurdly flavorless. If this was in San Francisco it would last about 10 seconds. I've frankly had better food at Chipotle which was my previous low water mark for Mexican food.

Ate lunch here. The burger at $20 with stale bread. Complained to the server who just shrugged his shoulder. Service is terrible. I am staying here for a week gonna stay away from this place.

Salt, salt, salt is how I would summarize it. Most of the dishes were too salty. How do you make a garden green salad salty?? So we began the night with ordering a red wine, a 2011 Tempranillo which we were really looking forward to. Our waiter messed up the uncorking and someone else tried to save the bottle but it resulted in bits of cork going into the bottle. His solution? To filter it with a dinner napkin. You’re going to serve a $130 bottle of wine to your customers by first filtering the cork out using a dinner napkin??? We tried to ask for a fresh bottle but instead they tried to make excuses that it was the last bottle and so on. The wine they ended up serving us wasn’t too bad and the night could have been saved had it not been for the horrendous food. There was one dish which was ok and that was the grilled whole fish. The rest was salty. The chicken noodle soup we ordered for our 2 year old may well have just been sea water. The oysters were not shucked cleanly and you ended up trying to clean shards of shell from your mouth. La Laguna is one of Fairmount’s restaurants on the Mayakoba complex. We were staying at Banyan Tree and had been, for days, trying to get Banyan tree to reserve a table for us at one of the restaurants at Fairmount. They kept giving us excuses that they were full and so on. By chance we happen to pass through Fairmount and booked a table at La Laguna at their lobby. In hindsight I feel the Banyan were probably trying to do us a favor. To finish, if you are thinking of dining here, don’t, just don’t.
