I really enjoyed Sato. We came here on a Tuesday lunch and there was only 2 other tables occupied. The clam ramen was very good and the nigiri was good as well. We’ve come here on another occasion and the tempura is great. The sushi pieces are on the smaller side but we still enjoyed them.
My go to for chirashi. Fish is top quality and really like how they flavored the rice. My parents like their lunch set boxes because they fry with clean / new oil.
The rice and rolls are delicious! The service staff are friendly, and the restaurant is clean and comfortable.
This is a legit authentic Japanese restaurant with a traditional menu. There isn't all that fusion madness; just good Japanese food and clean sushi. Hamachi was delicious as was the salmon shioyaki. I love this spot and glad it is not too far from the house.
I walked in find out it’s run by Japanese. & then 60% of the customers were Japanese speaking… how can you wrong. Like in Japan, focus is on quality vs quantity on the menus. I will be back.

The food was so delicious I loved the food and the waitress was super nice and the food was worth the money.
Over the years (30 +) the menu has changed slightly. There are no longer space shuttle dining plates for the kids. But the food has been consistently good. Enjoy this quiet Japanese restaurant.
Myself, and my 5 and 3 year olds had a fantastic time at Sato. The place is very quiet and I almost ended up leaving since my kids can be occasionally loud while dining. The service was excellent. We put our orders in quickly. The staff quickly brought out the kids sushi prior to the larger adult roles. The food was excellent. For a sushi spot, the prices seemed pretty affordable. Hope to return soon.
A big portion of delicious fresh food for a decent price. A little noisy when busy
Wonderful family-owned authentic Japanese restaurant. Excellent service, great quality food, a true comfortable and homey feel, you can tell everything is prepared with care. You won't be disappointed. I typically don't give reviews and would love to keep this restaurant to myself, but I believe they deserve the 5 stars and I wish them continued business and success.
Best JP restaurant in the area, no question. It is 100% authentic, as many people have mentioned. I work for a Japanese company, and we have Japanese customers in the area, and we always go to Sato for business lunches when we're nearby.
We were in the area and wanted Japanese food, so we decided on this restaurant. It was really good! And the portions are HUGE! My bento (3-item bento - salmon teriyaki, tempura, and California roll) was so big. I definitely couldn't finish it all and had leftovers for the next day or two. Everything was really delicious and the atmosphere was very pleasant (we went on a Sunday around 6:00, so it wasn't super busy yet). Very impressed and will definitely be back to try their other menu items.
We've been going to Sato for more than 20 years and they never disappoint us. This is the best authentic Japanese restaurant in Pleasanton. Sato San, the owner and he's Japanese, uses the freshest fish for all his nigiri and sashimi. I've eaten at other Japanese restaurants in this area. Even though those places offer a wide varieties of sushi selection but many of them do not use the highest quality fishes. Sato San trains his Mexican cooks well because all their other dishes taste great and authentic.

Authentic Japanese cuisine family own and operated. Sushi Chef is Japanese. Menu selection is limited. Don’t let that down. Fish is fresh and good quality. It can get busy so expect a bit wait if you order anything from sushi bar. Sukiyaki is one of my favorite hot plates. Service is great given they are under staff.

So my elderly parents like coming here bc they said the quality is superb. They said it's comparable to the quality in East Asia. My family finally went here, and I guess I didn't appreciate the place as much as my elderly parents. The portion is so small and it's so pricey! I love sushi and sashimi but I guess my taste buds aren't as refined as my well-traveled parents. The service is good and the ambiance is cute. The staff are really from Japan and Okinawa. Sadly, I would spend my money elsewhere to eat at another sushi place just to make sure my stomach gets filled and I don't burn a hole through my wallet.
This restaurant had a nice cozy feel to it, the atmosphere was nice and quaint. The staff are nice and friendly and very attentive. I ordered sushi, and everything tasted great. The only downside to me was that the sushi options were limited. Spicy mayo is not an option as a topping, and any modifications to the rolls are restrictive (i.e., I requested a side of eel sauce and was denied).

Service was very slow, and we could see the reason. They had huge to-go order to fulfill. So we had wait a very very long time. But as group we passed the time catching up. I ordered the Sashimi Lunch box, which was ok. We also ordered the Rainbow roll and the Fireball roll. They were again ok

I was so angry that I ordered two eel rice at noon, no side dishes, nothing in the miso soup, not even green onions. I was so angry that I ordered two eel rice at noon, no side dishes, nothing in the miso soup, not even green onions.

I’m honestly not one to give bad reviews but this was, hands down, the WORST sushi and WORST service I have ever experienced. I truly do not understand how this restaurant has a 4.6 rating. It started with the service-we were mostly ignored and had to flag down our waitress for drink orders upon arrival, then after our first rolls were served we didn’t see the second rolls for well over 30 minutes, then we had to flag her down to get the check or we could’ve been there all night! Now the food…this was the smallest sushi portions I’ve ever been served and we eat sushi regularly. The fish was tiny portions, limp, and not fresh at all. My dynamite roll had some sort of, what looked like and had the texture of regurgitated fish. And the rainbow roll, that finally arrived after 30+ minutes, had almost no rice, old fish, and tasted like mayonnaise! I even tried removing that mayonnaise mess in the middle but a) it took me forever, and b) it left almost nothing of each piece of sushi! In addition, it was a whopping $18! I have never paid that much for a rainbow roll! When I abandoned the attempt to dig all the mayonnaise out on the second piece I was never asked by the server if I wanted a box or if there was a problem with the food! It was like they knew it was horrible! So after my husband had a beer and 2 rolls and I had water and 2 rolls our bill was $78!!! I have NEVER paid this much for sushi AND IT WAS TERRIBLE! I can absolutely say this because my husband and I eat sushi REGULARLY. We ended up going to a bar to listen to live music and eat bar food since we were still hungry!
I ordered house salad, which is supposed to be with sweet sauce, but sause was sour. Also, ordere d a Rainbow roll, which came with only two types of fish(salmon and pale pink fosh- maybe tuna? Didn’t taste like tuna) and carrot(carrot in rainbow roll?) it wasn’t good at all.
