This is a place in which you have to stand in line to get to the counter to order. Sometimes, the wait can be up to an hour. The next question is...Was it worth it? I smoke a lot of brisket and ribs on my own. I believe I can go toe to toe with any pit in our area. However, I come to Redbird to get some of the best, if not the best, brisket and ribs in the area. Don't even get me started on the scrumptious sides. Amir and Delani have put together a family-friendly combination that should make any barbeque lover smile and want to come back for more.
SETX you got a MAJOR contender for TX BBQ. The line is justified. The brisket is top notch and the sausage is too. I am extremely impressed by this joint. The ribs are good too. The rolls are a great touch that makes Redbird stand out along with the amazing Scalloped Potatoes. Let me take a moment to praise the Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes they are amazing and the best I’ve ever had. I would order a pan of these for holidays, parties, cook-outs, you name it they are amazing. The crew here is amazing, Amir is front and center making sure you are receiving the best food and service they can possibly provide. They are doing it right! My only “complaint” is as a tea-aholic, I prefer fresh brewed tea. Honestly, I can’t wait to go back and share the Redbird experience with friends. Won’t be shocked when they make the next TM BBQ Top 50

August 10th 2024 We left houston at 9 and arrived at 1030 and there were probably 40-50 people in front of me. First person said they got there at 830. The wait when door opened wasn't long maybe 45min. The crowd was friendly and everyone was excited for the food. We ordered the sampler (1/2lb of all the meats, besides beef rib and only 1 link), an extra lb of brisket, pint of cornbread pudding, single of cheesy scalloped potatoes, pint Caesar slaw, banana pudding, and chocolate chip bread pudding. They were also kind enough to give me some burnt ends which are my favorite. The look. We eat with our eyes first and by all accounts your eyes will be happy. The meat looks moist, smoky, and tasty. The taste. It taste like texas bbq done at the highest possibility. I've eaten at many of the texas top100. I've traveled to so many of them across the state. This was wonderful. The flavors from the meat to the sides were incredible. While having some of the best brisket and turkey I've had in the state, these scalloped potatoes were incredible. I'd travel just for this and the bread pudding alone. The brisket and turkey were beautifully cooked and well seasoned. The sausage which is my least favorite usually were good enough for me to go in for 2nd and 3rds. I didn't get eat the ribs my fiance ate them all before I got to them. So it just means I'll have to comeback. This to me worth the 2hr drive 1 way. I highly recommend checking this place out. **cheers to the wonderful couple talking to us in line about food and bbq around the state**
Great BBQ, I couldn’t pick a favorite because everything was so good. The turkey was moist and flavorful, while my boyfriend loved the pork ribs. We both agreed that the cheesy potatoes were just as good as the BBQ! On top of that, the staff was super friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend! Worth the hour and a half drive for us.
Great BBQ place. We got the 1/4 pound meat sampler so we could try everything. It’s so much food! The brisket is tender and tasty and the smoke turkey is really great. The cornbread pudding (not a dessert) was really sweet which I liked but hubby didn’t. Atmosphere is good. You order at the counter and the line can be all the way out the door so beware. They have a to-go station with containers ready which is great.
Our first impression was this is a well prepared barbecue joint with chairs and umbrellas outside, good music playing, and a line that moved quickly. Perfect pepper, bark and smoked rings on the brisket, Great meat to fat ratio…. Melts in your mouth. The Cajun cheddar sausage was DANG GOOD. Now for the sides…. A delightful addition to the already perfect barbecue. Cheesy scallop potatoes were a wonderful carby treat - A must try. The Caesar slaw was topped with homemade croutons and was Slightly sweet - loved it. And don’t forget about the ROLLS. The tallow, honey butter that comes with them was the CHEFS KISS. Staff was very social and invited us to check out the pits. BEST BAR B Q WE HAVE EVER EATEN!!! Well worth the 4 hour drive!!!!!
What a wonderful surprise it was to find Redbird BBQ in Port Neches! I got the 1/4lb sampler, and everything was spectacular! The brisket was juicy with the perfect amount of smoke. The ribs were falling off the bone and the sausage? YEP! Way too much food for one, but I'll be eating well for days! It's run by the about the nicest folks I've ever met in a BBQ place. (Also, the prettiest girls I've ever seen behind a carving station) This is a MUST GO if you are anywhere within 100 miles of here!
I came all the way from Austin to try the BBQ here and it was worth it!!! Amir and his team put together a mouth watering spread of grub!! Highly recommend. Get there early as there is usually a line before they open. 1/2 lb Meat Sampler is the way to go. Definitely worth the stop!!
BBQ lovers , this is the place you want to eat. The prices are good, meat is tender and super tasty, sides are very good. We ate brisket , sausage and turkey. They have a to go station, where they have to go boxes , and cups. The plates and to go boxes are made of paper , that is a big plus for me. And as today is Mother’s day, and I am a mom , I got the dessert free chocolate chip bread pudding. I really appreciate this, thank you ! I am definitely coming back!
Redbird is one of my favorite places to eat at. Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. Their catering is also great as well as the burgers on burger days. My top recommendations are the brisket, cornbread pudding, cheesy scallop potatoes, koobideh sausage, and chocolate chip bread pudding (it’s unreal). There is usually a line out the door to get in but it is 100% worth the wait. If you haven’t been here, DO IT! Staff is always welcoming and nice.
‼️Just enjoying this Beef Rib on this beautiful Saturday‼️ I said I was gonna stop eating out but today was the perfect day to get in and see what the hype was all about. My favorites Beef Ribs, Brisket, and Brisket burnt ends. The burnt ends aren't on the menu but if they can snag you some go for it. The Cheesy Potatoes and Caesar Slaw is really good. I wasn't sure how I would like the slaw but it's good and refreshing. The BBQ sauce is not your typical sauce. It's a mustard base sauce with the right amount of vinegar and spices. It's really good. You don't need a lot. A little goes a long way. You don't want to over power the flavor of the meat. Just my opinion. The jalapeno cheese green onion sausage was not my favorite. Altho it did taste good. I just didn't like how the cheese was already melted out and the casing of the sausage was a little tougher than I like. The turkey was moist and tender but it lacked some seasoning or maybe a little more smoke. Pork ribs are tender and packed with flavor. The barked tasted like it was candied. Lots of sugar was used on the glaze. I'm not a fan of sweet flavors with bbq, but I'd definitely get it again. Price: Everything is expensive these days but if you want really good BBQ these days you either gotta pay for it or learn to BBQ. Lol This platter with the beef rib and 2 sides can easily be 4 meals. I think the price for it all is reasonable if you split it with a group.
We arrived and were first in line to our surprise. We normally do our research when visiting a top 50 spot and have an idea of what we're going to order, so when we made it to the counter everything went smoothly. We were greeted very well and noticed how everyone was on point with what they had to do to make the experience that much better for everyone visiting. The staff was great, the food was amazing and when all said and done definitely one of our top 3 bbq spots in Texas, and that's hard to pull off. We've been to many top 50 spots in the past few years and this one is a gem, better than those who've ranked in the 1st spot.
Happy to announce that Mid-County now has some really great BBQ. This weekend I had the opportunity to visit RedBird BBQ not once but twice..... Yes it was that good. I was able to try all of the sides. First off the Cornbread pudding was amazing, the red beans and rice was a home run, Caesar slaw was pretty good, potato salad was above average, cheesy scalloped potatoes were very cheesy and tasted great, and the surprise was the Mustard Greens. I don't normally eat greens but man I'm sure glad I gave these a shot. You really can't go wrong with any of the sides. My favorites are the Mustard Greens, Cornbread Pudding and the Red Beans & Rice. On both visits I had the chopped beef sandwich....... Really tasty wonderful smoke flavor and moist. We also had the sausage which was really on point. Turkey was moist and the seasoning does not overwhelm you. The sliced brisket was perfectly tender and moist. The BBQ sauce was some of my favorite. To finish up the BBQ spread we had the Banana Pudding...... While it's not as good as my wife's it's really good and its a must try when you visit.
Amir and his team are great. They are very courteous and welcoming. My order was quickly sliced and trayed, we got through the line fairly quick. We ordered brisket, ribs, turkey, house sausage and the cajun sausage as well. We accompanied the meats with a side of corn pudding, cheesy scalloped potato and red beans and rice. All the meats were excellent and the sides paired well. We were given a pit room tour and a quick walk through of the backroom all in fantastic condition. You can observe the level of pride they take in not only their cleanliness but also in how well organized the kitchen was. It was my first time there just a short drive (1.5 hr) from north Houston. I will make a second trip out to Port Neches for more great barbecue.
Listen. I’ve done the rounds. I’ve eaten brisket in more Texas towns than Buc-ee’s has urinals. I’ve lined up at 6 a.m. outside Franklin, I’ve worshiped at the altar of Snow’s, I’ve gnawed ribs like a caveman in Lockhart, and I’ve tasted sausage that made me question my life’s purpose. I’ve brisket-hopped my way across Texas like a smoked meat pilgrim. Franklin, Snow’s, Pecan Lodge, you name it—I’ve stood in line behind 40 hipsters and a cowboy just to get ribs that made me say, “Yeah, that’s pretty good.” But Redbird BBQ in Port Neches didn’t just raise the bar—they slapped it with a slab of koobideh sausage and shot it into the mesquite-scented heavens. Let’s get into it: The Brisket The brisket was the kind of perfect you usually only find in Hallmark movies and your dreams. Barked to perfection, smoky without being aggressive, and tender enough to make your teeth feel like they’re just along for the ride. I didn’t chew—I experienced. The Ribs If these ribs had a resume, it would say: “Skills include: falling off the bone with dignity, leaving fingers gloriously sticky, and converting vegetarians.” I ate them. I wept. I called my mom. I may or may not have licked my fingers so enthusiastically that a nearby table called their pastor. Cheddar Jalapeño Sausage Juicy, cheesy, spicy, and with a casing snap that could wake the dead. Honestly, if this sausage ran for public office, I’d vote twice. It’s that good. Koobideh Sausage Here’s where things get wild. This Persian-Texas fusion sausage came in hot and absolutely wrecked my palate (in a good way). Smoky, seasoned, herbaceous—it was like if Texas and Iran hugged it out over a flaming grill and then invited you to dinner. The Sides • Slaw: Crunchy, creamy, and didn’t taste like regret (rare for slaw). • Scalloped Potatoes: Layers of buttery, cheesy sin. I’d write them into my will. • Red Beans & Rice: Brought that Gulf Coast swagger to the plate like it owned the joint. • Homemade Rolls: These were not your average breadbasket fillers. These were clouds of doughy love, served hot. But wait— • THE HONEY TALLOW BUTTER: Let’s stop pretending this is normal. Who even thinks of this? This butter tasted like it had been churned by angels wearing cowboy hats. I considered putting it in my coffee. I still might. Dessert: Banana Pudding Oh sweet mercy. This wasn’t some cup of instant pudding with a sad Nilla wafer tossed in. This was grandma-level, made-from-scratch, eat-it-with-your-eyes-closed banana pudding. Silky, creamy, and topped with a meringue (or possibly fairy dust?), it slapped every other dessert in the face and dropped the mic. Amir – The BBQ Whisperer Now let’s talk about the man behind the madness: Amir. He’s not just a pitmaster. He’s a flavor philosopher. A sausage scientist. A smoked meat messiah. Friendly, humble, and clearly not afraid to break the BBQ rules in all the right ways. Final Verdict: Redbird BBQ isn’t a restaurant. It’s a love letter to meat, culture, and culinary courage. It’s everything the big-name joints wish they still were—bold, soulful, and deeply, unapologetically delicious. Do not walk—RUN—to Port Neches and order everything on the menu. Twice. Bring a cooler. Bring stretchy pants. Bring a therapist, because this place will absolutely wreck your standards forever. Amir, thank you for ruining every other BBQ joint for me. I’ll be back soon—with a bib, a bucket, and zero shame.
It was GOOD, put this place on your Mt Rushmore of BBQ places. Brisket & Cajun spiced cheese sausage was great. Companions liked the ribs a lot. Caesar coleslaw was different & also good. A roll with the tallow honey butter had my tongue trying to beat the roof of my mouth off. Port Neches is not on the way to anywhere but it is worth the side trip from Beaumont. Not cheap, $36 a pound for brisket & only open Thursday-Saturday. If you get a chance my recommendation is to GO.
It's only a matter of time before this unique BBQ spot is recognized as a top 10 in Texas. As far as I'm concerned, they're already there. Brisket and pork ribs were out of this world. Beef Koobideh sausage on a pita, with pickled veggies is a killer. Homemade roles with tallow honey butter is undeniable. Cornbread pudding, scalloped potatoes, banana pudding. All the sides just make this a must try and the meats make it spot you have to revisit. I'm a no-sauce kinda guy, so I enjoyed everything the way it stood, but the sauce was solid as well. Well worth the drive. As a Texan and BBQ fan, thanks for representing what BBQ is all about.
This Q is amazing! The owner is behind the counter cutting your meats and interacting with you! Everything I have had from here is amazing! Everything and I mean everything is house made, including the mayonnaise in their tater salad!! They put so much thought into their food. Yes, there may be a line, yes, it might be expensive, but is it worth it, absolutely!! Stop by and give them a try if you're in the area!! I came from Oklahoma to try them out, so you definitely can if you're close by!!!
Stopped by for the fist time last week. Came all the way down from Houston. Best bbq I’ve ever had no contest. Excellent customer service as well ! If you love bbq and you haven’t been here yet, you should currently stop what you are doing and go there now !!!!!
All I can say is Wow! The staff were helpful, generous and inviting. Wonderful plate of food, we were able to try the beef rib, brisket, pork ribs, turkey slider, cornbread pudding and the potatoes. Our family loved the Beef Ribs, the pork ribs and the cornbread pudding the best! What a great experience. Thank you so much! We will be back ❤️❤️❤️❤️- The Chances
We have moved to Texas about a year ago and have traveleld around and always tried the best bbqs in town. This was by far best one we have had. The perfect amount of smokeyness and juicy... one thing that did it for us was that they didnt have the typical stuff every bbq joint has. No they have gone a little further to sophisticate their menu! You have some more special sides and also special bbq items and specials of the day which was an absolute hit!! Will deff go there again!! So there is everything for people that like the usuals but also something for people that like to explore and are more adventurous.. Super friendly staff 👌🏼👌🏼 persian hospitality on point 👌🏼👌🏼
It is important to know who you are and what you are. Redbird does. They know they have the #4 BBQ joint in Texas according to Texas Monthly. They reflect that through the mentions of that rank in the restaurant and their pricing ($19 for 1/2lb of brisket- the most I’ve ever spent). We were on vacation, so I treated it as a special occasion meal. Note that I am not speaking negatively about Redbirds. Great food can demand a high price. For being in a small town that most have never heard of, they have a nice ambiance inside and the workers are friendly. Brisket had thick flavorful bark and smoky meat throughout. House sausage was very good with good seasoning. I had a bite of the Cajun cheddar sausage and wish I had more but they ran out. Tried a daily special sandwich which was chopped brisket mixed with chopped sausage and chopped jalapeños. It was good but I would rather fill myself with brisket. We will be back for sure!
Fantastic experience! Don’t miss out on the sides. As a Texan who has lived in the Middle East for over a decade, the flat bread that goes with the sausage would stand up to any in this part of the world. I would come back just for the sausage. The brisket was probably the best I have ever had. When I come back to Texas on a visit, I won’t be standing in that long line at Franklin’s anymore. My first stop from the airport will be Redbird 🐦🔥
Everything we had here was 10/10, top notch. They’ve earned their #4 spot on the 2025 Texas BBQ list. We especially loved the koobideh sausage with homemade pita, the scalloped potatoes, and the homemade and honey butter rolls. The ribs have a great sweet and tang that other spots don’t. Lastly, the owner was super kind at the front. One of the best bbq line conversations we’ve had. Outstanding customer service.
Great barbecue. Came here for lunch on a Wednesday they only had a limited menu so we had the smash burgers. Came back the next day for lunch and it was excellent. We got here an hour before they opened because we heard there is usually a wait The scallop mashed potatoes are a must get.
Probably the best BBQ in the area and one of the best in Texas. Brisket, sausage, and ribs were all delicious. The sides were amazing as well. My only regret was not ordering more or getting dessert. The staff were super friendly and fast even if there’s a long line. They offer umbrellas and chairs for folks waiting outside in line.
Absolutely incredible. Zero complaints. Went here yesterday, arrived about 9:15 and was 5th in line. Line started to grow quickly around 10. I ordered a little bit of everything on the menu and was thrilled by all of it. Very subtle, creative twists on Texas classics cooked with love and respect for the ingredients. Don’t sleep on the homemade rolls and pita, or the desserts either. I will be back as often as I am in the area. These folks know what they’re doing and they seem to love doing it. Can’t wait to watch their success grow.
I'm most definitely not one to review places much but I just feel the need to for Amir. We drove 2 and 1/2 hours to try the #4 place in Texas for BBQ and the Redbird crew did not disappoint. The brisket, the ribs, the burnt ends, even down to the homemade rolls and honey butter, it was all completely lights out. Amir is down to Earth and takes time to talk to his customers and make sure their experience is worth the wait. Go visit. You WILL NOT be disappointed.
Review: The Culinary Zenith of Texas BBQ in Port Neches Tucked away on the edge of the quaint town of Port Neches sits a barbecue joint that is not just good—it is deserving of every ounce of praise it receives. Recognized as a Texas Monthly Top 10 BBQ awards winner, sitting proudly at number four, this establishment transcends the standard smokehouse experience. The dedication to quality is apparent from the moment you arrive: the line formed sharply at 9:30 AM on a Saturday, yet the wait was made delightful by staff who emphasize service, offering free beer and chairs to those queuing. Their friendly, inviting demeanor sets the stage for a truly elevated culinary outing. The Meats: Smoked Perfection The star of the show, unequivocally, is the Brisket. It boasts excellent flavor with a bark that is a perfect, savory mix of salt and pepper. What truly sets it apart is the texture: super juicy and possessing a melt-in-the-mouth goodness that confirms the pitmasters here know how to craft a truly perfect brisket. Complementing the main cut were the Brisket Burnt Ends, delivering super juicy, smoky bites that acted as concentrated flavor bombs. The menu successfully ventures beyond traditional Texas staples with outstanding results. The Honey Glazed Pork Ribs were a perfect blend of sweet and savory, offering a nice honey glaze and that coveted "fall-off-the-bone" tenderness while still maintaining a great bite. The sausage selection is where true creativity shines. The Koobideh sausage is a Mediterranean delicacy, featuring an amazing mixture of spices that holds its own even before adding slaw and sauce. The Cajun Cheddar and Green Onion Sausage provides a decadent contrast with a satisfying cheddar ooze and a memorable peppery kick. Finally, the complementary bites of Boudin offered a nice spice profile and a great, authentic texture from the rice and meat mixture. Even the bonus slice of Turkey was impressive—juicy, mild, and featuring a beautiful flavor on the skin. The Sides: Elevating the Classics The sides here are far from an afterthought; they are elevated dishes in their own right. The Red Beans and Rice is a triumph, packed full of delicious brisket and sausage, featuring a rich gravy with deep flavor, brightened by a green onion crunch. Any Cajun would be proud of this dish, where the beans and rice, jokingly, are almost an afterthought to the rich, meaty gravy. The Scalloped Potatoes are thick and intensely cheesy, elevated with a sharp attention to detail, including added onion, parsley, and chives to boost the flavor complexity. For a sweet counterpoint, the Corn Bread Pudding truly should be considered a dessert—sweet and decadent, topped with a gorgeous glaze. To top it all off, the Tallow Honey Butter Rolls offered a nostalgic touch, tasting sweet, warm, and homemade, reminiscent of a “made by Grandma” recipe. Verdict This establishment is extremely deserving of its number four position on the Texas Monthly list. From the friendly, generous staff (thank you for the free beer!) to the meticulous preparation of every item, all the food was elevated to perfection, resulting in a genuine culinary delight. When you leave without a single leftover, you know you have experienced something truly exceptional.
Not only was the food incredible, (easily best brisket I’ve ever had), but it was impressive seeing the owner at the very front greeting each customer kindly and serving our orders. We are so lucky to have such great bbq in our area!!!
BEST BBQ AROUND. We have been to Redbirds several times and everytime the food has been amazing. I love that there’s consistency in the food you’re served. The sides are phenomenal and the ribs are my favorite part. Definitely worth a try.
This is the BEST BBQ we've ever eaten! Tender, juicy brisket; tender, flavorful smoked turkey; amazing cornbread pudding (yes pudding), and scalloped potatoes! Go after 12:30 & the lines won't be as long to get inside.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Redbirds BBQ is the real deal! We arrived early with family visiting from Utah to introduce them to authentic Texas brisket—and boy, did Redbirds deliver. We ordered brisket by the pound (it’s the only way to go!), along with burnt ends, sausage, censor slaw, potato salad, potato casserole, corn pudding, and rolls. Each tray came generously loaded with pickled veggies, carrots, onions, jalapeños, and pickles—a must-have for any BBQ feast. The brisket was undeniably the star, boasting an incredible smoke ring, flavorful bark, and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness—exactly how true Texas brisket should be. Our family from Utah declared it the best brisket they’ve ever tasted! The burnt ends were perfectly caramelized nuggets of smoky heaven, and the sausage was juicy and bursting with flavor. The sides were solid, but let’s be honest—great BBQ starts and ends with the meat, and Redbirds proves their pitmaster knows exactly what they’re doing. Texas Monthly ranks Redbirds at #4 on their Best Texas BBQ list, but in my book, it’s #1. – Mike “Big Chief” Hiatt Host of The Whiskey Trip Podcast
Just checked out Redbird BBQ in Port Neches — and y’all, it’s legit. Ranked #4 on Texas Monthly’s Top 50 BBQ joints, and now I totally see why. We drove all the way from DFW just to try it, and it was absolutely worth the trip. Amir (pit boss) was incredibly friendly, taking time to talk to every customer and even offering samples like it was a family gathering. It really made the whole experience feel personal. I ordered the brisket, ribs, and smoked turkey — and every bite was packed with flavor. The sides were just as good: potato salad and red beans & rice were solid, as well as the homemade rolls. 10/10 experience. Great food, great people. Redbird BBQ is officially on my must-return list.
There's a new #1 on my list and it's not even close. Redbird BBQ (currently #4 on the Texas Monthly list) hits every note. The meats are spot on, and the sides are by far the best in Texas. Give Amir the crown.
Oh my glob I just barely missed the sliced brisket for the day. But I was loaded up with other delicious food! I cried over the cheesy scalloped potatoes. Risked my life with the banana pudding because I'm a thrill seeker with an allergy. The bread .... fluffy golden clouds from heaven. So, no brisket, eh? I got pork ribs - eye-rollingly good. If I weren't the only one eating, I'd have gotten more to share. Damn, even the ice was good! Everyone is such a pleasure. Owner was taking orders and chatting it up with EVERYONE. And they know their regulars vs visitors. So so friendly!
Amazing moist brisket and brisket burnt ends, delicious and innovative Persian-inspired koobideh sausage with homemade pita, Shirazi salad, mint yogurt sauce (Mast O Khiar without the cucumber) and incredible torshi (pickled carrots, onions and cauliflower). Also enjoyed cheesy scalloped potatoes. I got there at 11:05am just after opening on a rainy Friday morning and the line was long but it went fast. The staff couldn’t have been nicer or more welcoming, especially the pit master Amir who took the time to talk to every customer to whom he showed genuine interest.
This was my first trip to Redbird Barbecue. We arrived at about 11:30 a.m., on a Saturday. We parked on the street without difficulty. There were about 15 people in line outside. The interior was clean and bright inside. The owner was working the line and greeted us as we began our order. Everyone working the line was extremely friendly and made you feel at home! I had the quarter pound all meats sampler (sliced brisket, chopped beef, turkey, two pork ribs, and sausage), cheesy scalloped potatoes, cornbread pudding, a house roll with tallow honey butter, and banana pudding. The servings were plentiful and left plenty to take home to-go. All the drinks were bottled, which I personally dislike. I ordered two bottled sodas and they left my second one in the cooler until I was ready for it, which I appreciated. Our party of five adults and two young children had no problem getting seating inside. I've been to A LOT of the top barbecue spots in Texas, and I think Redbird stands with the best of them. It was one of those spots that everything I ordered was excellent! In fact, I didn't hear anyone in our group mention dissatisfaction with anything ordered. This was definitely one of my favorites!

Not only was the food incredible, (easily best brisket I’ve ever had), but it was impressive seeing the owner at the very front greeting each customer kindly and serving our orders. We are so lucky to have such great bbq in our area!!!
There's a new #1 on my list and it's not even close. Redbird BBQ (currently #4 on the Texas Monthly list) hits every note. The meats are spot on, and the sides are by far the best in Texas. Give Amir the crown.
Wife and I drove 2 1/2 hours from the, Lufkin area for the #4 Redbird, we enjoyed every mile. This place is amazing from the other customer's you meet, staff, the total atmosphere and the food. speaking of food WOW, the brisket, ribs, links and the sides, they put the work into this labor of love and you know that with each bit. I left a Little Jesus at the register. We are already planning another tip with friends, you should come join us, as we say, Road Tip. Thanks Redbird
Great local spot with super nice staff. This was my first visit and everyone made me welcomed. I ended up with fantastic brisket, tasty burned ends and few flavorful bones. I decided to try cesar slaw and it didn’t disappoint. This is a stop that hit my taste buds in all the right places.
I’m not sure you can get better brisket than this. It’s a perfect bite. Great sides and that banana pudding is amazing. Main concern is when you pull up, there’s a line. As there should be because the food is that good. But the line isn’t so much because of the demand as much as it is their service model. It’s the slowest service model you can find in a restaurant. If they could figure out a better way to serve the guests in a quick manner, it would be a 5 star all around restaurant. But truthfully, you shouldn’t have a line out the door waiting an hour plus on food while your dining room is only 30% full.
Number 5 in the new bbq list. Over all I would agree with their judgement. Definitely top ten worthy, everything they put on the tray was good. All cuts were seasoned well and had the right bark, but if we are to nitpick because they are on the top ten, everything was dryer than expected. Their sides are all above average compare to many others on the list.

I am a big foodie y’all and my husband and I we travel all over and barbecue is something we both love because we are true Texans! I did my research trying to find the best place in the area so we gave Redbird a try….. We can say that we tried it, but will we be back? Most likely not. Coming from Terry Black’s in Lockhart and seen what we got for $100.00 versus what we got at Redbird for $60.00 there is just no comparison. My husband and I are business owners ourselves so we totally understand the high cost in this economy but let’s just say we went in hungry and we both left Redbird still hungry. I had seen in the reviews that yes, you needed to get there early to have a better chance of more options and we were there at a decent time but we just had to wait 30 minutes+ in line and by the time we got up to order they were out of everything we wanted to try except for the brisket. The brisket was good and the pork rib but I will say I have had better on both. Was it worth the 30+ minutes standing on foot? No. It really wasn’t but we can say that we’ve been there and tried it. I would think if you are a business that you know what to expect for a lunch crowd and knowing your most popular menu items you would prepare and plan to feed that usual number. In our mentality of thinking the business side of it we prefer to have more than enough versus not enough, and if they did have what we pacifically went there for and was looking forward to I think it would have changed this review tremendously and our opinion on the whole experience but sitting down after paying $60 for basically something you were not going there to try except for one item honestly felt as a let down and thinking, I guess I chose the wrong place. We will just stick to our Lockhart and Austin areas for Barbecue. I treat my business that you only have one chance for a first impression and I guess I expect too much for other businesses in that same manner because we all have off days. Thank you for your time!
