The place really transported me back to my childhood, from the 70s and 80s-style tables, to arriving and the smell of food made with love, like eating with grandma. The service was superb, the seasoning was very, very good. It's totally homemade. For dessert, we got Sevillian shortbread cookies, made right there, and they were delicious too.

A good place for breakfast and lunch with homemade seasoning from our grandmothers' house. The family atmosphere is evident from the moment you walk in. You realize that everyone who works at this establishment is related—brothers, sister-in-law, nephews, and nieces. And they've learned the seasoning from their mother (now grandmother) and follow the steps of tradition. Each season they have different dishes for their customers. On the Day of the Dead, their puff pastries, and now at Christmas, they feature esteemed buñuelos (rolled on a knee, since no one makes them that way anymore, but with a rolling pin), polvorines, butter cookies, and more for all tastes.

There might be other places to eat in the area, since there's a hospital nearby, but they tend to have mediocre service and average food. At Carmelita, you eat well and are treated well. What more could you ask for?

I expected much more for the overall rating of 4.7. The food tasted good but the portions were very basic. The elderly staff were very friendly, but the place could improve greatly in terms of cleanliness and maintenance. The price was $70 for a set meal. There's nothing special for children.

Listen, I don't know where they got their 5 stars from. The food is awful. Nothing had any flavor, the corn soup was just water, the spaghetti was terrible, and the pipián tasted like green chili peppers. I ordered two takeout meals, and the portions were like kids' meals. In any other kitchen, they give you half a liter of soup, but here they gave you one of those Styrofoam containers that you get two scoops of ice cream in for one soup! I ordered the pipián with pork, and they gave it to me with chicken, and the chicken was black inside. And it turns out they don't provide water for takeout. I asked for some to drink while I waited, and they said no, they didn't have any. And the beans? Don't even get me started. They were unseasoned, straight out of the pressure cooker, I'm sure that's how they served them. Seriously, avoid this place and don't be swayed by opinions from, presumably, people they know. 🤢
