Started the day going for a drive and ended up at Bison Cafe. The catfish meal was outstanding and the service was great. The cafe was very clean, we were very impressed with the glass dinner ware and nice texas cutlery.
Great homemade food! Everything was hot & fresh! Nice friendly staff! Next time you're visiting Caprock Canyons State Park or just passing thru town, stop in a good meal!
Hand breaded chicken fried steak, excellent onion rings, home made chunky blue cheese dressing. All excellent! Friendly staff! Interesting menu.
Don't be in a hurry! This cafe is delishiously awesome. The cafe ambience is sweet and great food to be had. They've limited hours, so plan accordingly, don't miss this home town treat.
After an eight mile hike at Caprock Canyon State Park yesterday - this was the perfect stop for lunch. The staff was amazing and I ate possibly the best burger I've ever had (the Hawaiian burger). This will now be our lunch stop from now on after a morning in the canyon!
Delicious burgers! It was our first time there after visiting Caprock Canyon. Friendly service! Super busy, so wait time was high, but well worth it! Definitely plan on coming back! :)
Awesome little gem out in Quitaque! Portions were huge and delicious and the price was right. Definitely recommend the Chicken Fried Steak. The owner is a very sweet lady and constantly thanked us for waiting and for coming in. Even treated us to molten lava cake on the house!
Fantastic food. My husband said it was the best Taco Salad he has had in 20 years. Superbly prepared, great presentation and yummy. I highly recommend stopping by and eating if you are visiting Cap Rock Canyon State Park or anytime for that matter.
We stopped in Bison Cafe Thursday 3/17/22 on our way to Caprock Canyons State Park what a great find. The service was terrific very attentive and personable. We went right at opening the food was amazing. We had the avocado salad it was so fresh and delicious. We also had the loaded onion ring burger OMG it was terrific. The food presentation was great. Loved it and will definitely be back we totally recommend.
Excellent food and service! I highly recommend for anyone visiting Caprock Canyon to stop in here for a home cooked meal. My wife and I went after an 8 mile hike and had the best meal of our trip! I had chicken fried steak and she had the taco salad. We loved not only the good food but the positive friendly environment. Loved it!
While visiting Caprock Canyons State Park, we decided to check out the local towns. Our stop for lunch was Bison Cafe just a couple of miles from the park in Quitaque (Kitty-kway). What a delightful experience! Such a friendly atmosphere from the staff to the owner! Inside you find a nicely decorated restaurant definitely fitting its location and a nice boutique as well. The food was exceptional as well. The loaded french fries are a must!. I also had the Firecracker burger 🍔! Cooked to perfection and so tasty. My wife had rhe Chicken and Avocado Salad 😋 ! The house made ranch dressing so yummy! So yes, absolutely 5 stars 🌟x5! If ever at Caprock Canyons, Bison Cafe is a must stop for lunch!
We ate lunch after a visit to Caprock Canyon. Their burgers were delicious, big crispy onion rings and a Cobb salad which was Devine! Worth stopping by. Great decor and service, very reasonably priced.
This is a great little spot to eat. We stopped here on our way to camp at Caprock Canyon SP and liked it so much we ate there again on the way out of town. The owner is super sweet, the waitresses are helpful and attentive, and the space is decorated so cute. And the food!! It’s yummy! I had the crispy chicken salad one time and a BLT and curly fries the next. My hubs loved his jalepeño ham bacon Swiss sandwich! We will definitely be back!
The food here is really made from scratch and it is delicious. Try the jalapeno ranch next time you go in! It turns an ordinary side salad into a delicious treat. The staff is friendly and attentive and the facility is clean. You will be treated like family when you visit.
We just ate here after a day of hiking Caprock Canyons. My wife had a green chile and mushroom burger with sweet potato fries. Our son and I had chicken fried steak. He had onion rings with his and I had fries and fried okra. EVERYTHING from our fresh salad to the last bite of our meals was excellent! Everything was fresh and prepared to perfection. The portions were huge. The staff was so accomodating and friendly. Quite surprised and extremely impressed.
We stayed down the street and was recommended to visit here by our BnB host. We got corn nuggets, salad, sandwich, and desert. Everything tasted very good. They mention on the menu that everything is made to order so may take a bit more time than expected. But for us it was worth it. They called us when it was ready for pick up and everything was ready when we arrived. Would recommend and would revisit if in the area again.
They have a great lunch menu and the food is delicious. I had a jalapeno turkey club and devoured everything on my plate. The service was excellent as well and very friendly. It is definitely worth a visit.
Yum! Hamburger great and the onion rings. They had a big travel group in so ro make up for the slower service, the owner brought us both a dessert. Awesome pumpkin roll. We recommend ya'll try this cafe.
Really good burgers and chicken fried steak. The bathrooms were immaculate. I appreciated the professionalism of the owner and staff with social distancing, offering hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes. Perfect pit stop for bicycle tourers on the rail trail.
The 4th of July buffet was very, very good. The selection was fresh, variety was All American favorite comfort foods! I am so thankful we had the opportunity to eat there!
Awesome cafe!!! So well decorated and inviting!! We had lunch here one day and then burgers the next night for dinner!! So good!! Don’t miss this stop if you’re in the area or visiting Caprock Canyons State Park. The owner is warm and welcoming and we loved it!!
Had great experience here at bison Cafe. Service was great n food was hot n delicious, atmosphere awesome lots of anecdotes to feast your eyes n keep yourself entertained and learning new things. Definitely recommend this place. Big parking lot if u have trailer. Can park a big rig or 2 if not busy or park across the street.
Great food in this beautiful restaurant in Quitaque. Delma is the best! We enjoyed the green chile burger, yummy onion rings and delicious salad. Don't go through Quitaque without stopping here. Wonderful dining indoors and on the big covered patio!
We stopped on our way out of Caprock Canyon, we got in right before 3pm, we got seated and they took our orders We had 2 Bacon cheese burgers,1 cheese burger and a chicken fried chicken burger, with onion rings and fries. We loved our food, the outside decor is great and the inside is awesome. I look fwd to going back to try more food. The owner was super friendly and even gave us dessert. We wish her and her staff great success and may the Lord continue to bless them
Great place for lunch in Quitaque Tx. 3 miles from Cap Rock State Park. We started with an order of Texas toothpicks. These were the absolute best . Tasty and crunchy jalapeno and onion pieces. I ordered the chicken sandwich special with tater tots. Chicken was tender and juicy. We also had the fish sandwich special which was a good portion size and perfectly done. The service was efficient and friendly. Decor is interesting. Lots of parking across the street.
When we got there, we were informed of the buffet they had - chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and fried fish with all the trimmings. It looked good and all but at opted for burgers. And I have no regrets! NONE! I got the Texas toothpick burger and my husband got the fried mushroom burger and they did not disappoint. Once we were done and ready to check out, by the cash register, there was an array of desserts the lady told us to take our pick. Well, me being me, I had left the bits of meat on the table that I had intended to take out to my dog who had to wait in the truck for us. But the waitress had already cleaned off our table. Instead of making me go back to the truck empty- handed, they gathered some doggy treats up and sent us on our way. Idk when I'll make it back to that part of Texas but when I do, Bison Cafe will be a definite stop for me.
Cute restaurant with great service and serious food. We had chicken fried steak, fries, chicken fried chicken and okra. Amazing ranch dressing on a good salad. I think the dressing is homemade.
Today was our first time at the Bison Cafe in Quitaque, Texas. I had a small Strawberry Salad with Grilled Chicken and my husband had a Bacon Cheeseburger with Onion Rings. My salad was huge, fresh and delicious. My husband said the bacon was thick and delicious on his burger and the onion rings were just right. Very nicely decorated inside and out with the bison theme. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. We highly recommend this cafe.
After you go see the wild Bison at Caperock State Park stop by the Bison Cafe for some delicious lunch. Had the steak finger, sweet potato fries, side salad and the special of the day Taco Salad. They have a boutique to look around and get some gifts for anyone. DO NOT ask for a Bison burger…. They like the Bison in town and don’t eat them :)
Such a nice place to get out of the heat and get some good food. Ordered the taco salad and a spicy chicken sandwich. Both were delicious and well cooked. Service was great. Can’t wait to come back.
I stopped here during a visit to Caprock Canyons earlier this year. Food was delicious! I had the Texas Toothpick Burger. All their burgers sounded so good, it was hard to decide what to get. Atmosphere was nice. Service was a little slow when I visited, but they had a notice up that they were short-staffed then. I would definitely return.
Literally the only cafe in Quitaque Texas. Very nice place in town. If you stay at Caprock Canyons State Park they are located three miles from the park. The food was good and fresh. Give it a try if you pass through.
You must stop here if your near Caprock Canyons. Come hungry leave happy and full. I noticed the previous posts about slow service but this was not my experience. I was able to get in and out under an hour; and that’s only because I was taking my time. I ordered texas toothpicks, SteakFingers with curly fries and a side salad with jalapeño ranch. The steak fingers were adult sized to say the least. They were crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. The texas toothpicks were outstanding. I will definitely be back.
I don't know how to put it, they serve a bodacious burger! Hand made, fresh, big burger. I had a chile rellano, guacamole burger covered in queso. One of the best fried chile rellano's I've had sat on top of a scoop of homemade guacamole on top of a huge handmade hamburger patty, smothered in melted queso.and a pile of fresh crisp fries. Simply the best, it is worth the drive. My hats off to the chef! My wife ordered the green Chile, Swiss, mushroom burger, equally as tasty, but she had to get a Togo box for the other half.
You won’t be disappointed with these burgers. Full menu is expected to roll out by next month. Fast and friendly service. Definitely cant beat the prices.
Who knew? There are 300 people in Quitaque. 300 people. Besides the Allsups, this is the only place to eat. Do not be fooled by the quaint nature of this cafe! We had the daily special which was Chile Rellenos or pork quesadillas...both were exceptional! The hand-battered Rellenos were as good as any I've ever had. I am confident that they hand make every single thing on their menu...no frozen bags of anything here! Highly recommend!
Absolutely incredible burgers, onion rings, curly fries & steak fries. Great local eatery with great staff!
We had a very good lunch at the Bison Cafe.
Outstanding burger. I ordered a chile rellano, guacamole and queso burger.

Absolutely incredible burgers, onion rings, curly fries & steak fries. Great local eatery with great staff!
Keep in mind this is a family owned and operated establishment. There will be closures due to illness, funerals, family emergency, and so forth. The owner will almost always make these closures known via their Bison Cafe Facebook. This can also be said of fluctuating hours. This is a town with a population of not even 400, good help is hard to come by and they have the best of the best working whenever they can. More often than not there is only 2 cooks in a kitchen that can house 5 and 2 waitstaff when there could easily be 4. The employees are always making changes and efforts to improve speed and service. All this being said, this is the best restaurant to eat at in the area. The food is exceptional and always fresh. Hardly anything on the menu is frozen. The hamburgers are pressed fresh daily and the fried food is hand battered. The employees take great pride in the food they make and the locals know that their meal is worth the wait. Great care went into making this establishment what it is with many hands from the community and family to help build it up and keep it running. Keep this is mind when you have become frustrated with “long wait times” or a member of the crew having an off day. More now than ever we must support small businesses and treat those working in these establishments with kindness.
Completely unsuspecting, hidden gem, tucked away on the corner of town. We only pulled over because of previous reviews. Glad we did! This place exceeded every expectation. Fresh food from scratch -- menu and daily specials creative and tempting, hard to choose! Everything we ordered was impressive and very tasty. Service was warm and sincere. Restrooms and dining area are super clean. We got take out soft drinks for the drive back and the sodas were huge! I would drive miles out of the way for this place -- well worth it! Prices low, portions generous. Open 11-3, 6-8pm -- fortunately we hit it at just the right time. They were open New Year's Day!
We had a great experience. They were very busy, but still made us feel appreciated and welcome. But I am here to talk about the Chicken Fried Chicken Sandwich. Whoever made my chicken fried chicken sandwich deserves a medal or a trophy. It was cooked absolutely perfectly. The breading was perfect and crispy. This review is just a love letter to that sandwich really. I miss that sandwich.

I was so pleasantly surprised by the Bison Cafe. We were at Caprocks Canyons State Park to see the bison and wanted a late lunch afterwards, so we drove into town the the cafe. I did not expect to find anything for a vegetarian to eat at a small restaurant in a small town in west Texas, but I found their salad bar to be well-stocked, varied, and fresh. The servers were all very polite and helpful, and both the homemade banana pudding and the cherry cobbler were delish. If you find yourself in this neck of the woods, I can recommend the Bison Cafe - just maybe take it easy on the deep fried options, because there are a lot of them!
Wonderful atmosphere and food. Short on staff so be patient. Owner delightful and trying her best to hire.

Chicken fried chicken was good, but we waited an HOUR for it. The place is not that big, maybe they had only one person in the kitchen that day, it was a saturday. Very homey small town cafe, all the patrons seemed to know one another. Soap in restroom has too strong a scent for a restaurant.
We walked in the door at 1137am and left at 148 pm. The restaurant filled up after we arrived and no one had food for almost that whole time. Food was decent but pricey. 2 hrs to get burgers for 5 people is rediculous.
We tried to eat here…we were sat and watched a waitress talk to one table for 10 minutes. I grabbed some Menus to see what there was to eat. No one took our order. Others on the other side of the restaurant were sat after us and were able to order. We left for something better in Amarillo. Very unprofessional service. I would wish better for Quitaque
2.5 hours! My mother, my wife, kids and I, stopped in today for lunch. First off, the waitress acted like they didn't want to seat us. After this, it took almost 15 minutes for us to get drinks. 2 hours later we finally got our burgers. My youngest son ordered chicken strips. He was the last served, after everyone else had, had their food for almost 20 minutes. Now on to the food, the green chili swiss burger was very bland. My wife's Patty Melt was ok, nothing to write home about. Daughter had the bacon burger, which she said was good, along with my mother's Hawaiian burger. Not a fan of the wait for sure. I get it, your understaffed, I get it also, that you may be having issues getting products, does not excuse food taking this long to get out of the kitchen. Will not be back. Thanks.
