We went for dinner and a drink. Marvellous selection of gin and beer from the local brewery. Food was beautiful. Small portions but beautifully formed. Next time will order starters too. Dog friendly. Nice decor. Car park was full so we had to park on the street. 6pm on a rainy Wednesday. Must be rammed on sunny weekends. Will go back

I visited 4 months ago and again today 15th July- great pub with very good, traditional with a twist Gastropub food! Compliments to the chef

Highly recommended. My Grandma and I were travelling south and wanted to find lunch on the way. We were so happy to have found this advertised online. It was easy to book and we were seated almost immediately when we arrived. The service was great and the food was so delicious. The cost was only a little more expensive than other pubs but the exceptional quality made it great value for money. I can't wait to return. What a find.

Very impressed to discover that this pub has a separate vegan menu, with several options for each course - a very welcome change from most of our local pubs. I couldn't see the vegan menu on the website so we almost went elsewhere, but very glad we didn't. We'll definitely be back!

An excellent country pub. The fact that they make their own ales and spirits is widely known and should be reason alone for coming here. The quality of the cooking, the cheerful and attentive young staff, the stunning village location and heritage building are the cherry on top. The food is mostly very good to excellent, value for money is also quite good. The slight let down was the cauliflower steak which wasn’t hearty enough to grace the center of the roast lunch plate. Pictured are the nut roast and cauliflower steak roasts and the fish & chips.

The Bell at Ramsbury is faultless. Exquisite cuisine, carefully chosen wines to match and a beautiful, relaxing dining environment. Sustainability beats at the core; it is clearly important to those at the helm and the whole experience is one step beyond. I cannot wait to return and highly recommend. Every aspect was 5 star.

Stopped in The Bell for an after mountain bike event, in aid of the Royal British Legion poppy appeal. And it was excellent, great beer, great service and an open fire. The Ramsbury Raspberry & honey gin & craft lager that tastes like an ale were wonderful. The service too was great 👍

Our lunch was scrumptious, and the atmosphere was lovely. I was so pleased that they had gluten free options for my coeliac son. He loved his GF pizza (cooked in a separate, dedicated oven) and GF brownie with vanilla icecream. The chef was charming and very knowledgeable about food allergies.

10/10 for food (unbelievably good roast - the Yorkshires, especially) and incredible service - staff were super helpful and friendly, and welcoming of our slightly muddy dogs and muddy boots. Thanks so much for a fabulous sunday afternoon - we will be back, hopefully to join the foraging class!

We stay at this lovely pub, the room was very clean and comfortable only downside the blind doesn't keep out the morning sun. Food was amazing and the service was great 👍 Will stay again

We booked a last-minute night away from London and had a really lovely stay. The rooms are located above the pub, just as described. Ours faced the street, but the area is so quiet that noise wasn’t an issue at all. The bathroom was modern, with underfloor heating and excellent water pressure in the shower — both great touches. The room itself was clean, warm and comfortable, with good-quality linens. WiFi and heating worked perfectly during our stay. It’s an old building so naturally not everything is perfectly uniform, but that’s part of its charm. As a London couple who eat out a lot, we were genuinely impressed with the food — high quality, generous choice on the menu and everything we had was well executed. The staff were excellent throughout: friendly, attentive and professional without being overbearing. We’d absolutely return!

Second time staying at The Bell and honestly it was just as lovely as we remembered. We checked in late and Zach was amazing, he went out of his way to make sure we still had food and wine when we arrived even though it was past closing and he clearly deserved to go home, which was such a kind touch after travelling. He really made us feel so welcome. Josh was also brilliant! The rooms are beautiful, really quiet, and the breakfast is incredible. Coming from London, this is the kind of place that reminds you what real hospitality feels like. They really do go the extra mile. Thank you so much to Zach, Josh and the team we’ll definitely be back.

Not a lot so say other than "Brilliant" Great location, welcome was exceptional. Only used the restaurant during visit. Can't comment on the rooms. The staff were brilliant. Really friendly and welcoming. The food was first class. When question were asked the guys ensured they were answered even bringing the chef to the table at one point. Will ensure its No 1 on my list when next back in the area. Well done guys you should be proud of yourselves.

We had Sunday lunch at the Bell and it was a delight. Large portions of incredibly tasty food both meat and plant based. Good service and lovely village it sits in. Would recommend.

Stayed here 29.11.25 for 2 nights. 1st night was with a Virgn experiences gift voucher. It was that good we paid for an extra night. Staff was friendly and very helpful. The rooms are warm and clean. The restraunt and pub had a good atmosphere and the food was exceptional.

Terrific Sunday roast for a large family gathering. Everyone enjoyed the food and loved the room with the fireplace. The afternoon was made special by the excellent service of our waitress Tati who was quite brilliant with our lively lot!

The best 'pub' food I have ever eaten. Fresh, tasty local produce. Every course was amazing. So glad we found this gem, we will definitely be back. Not the cheapest.....but the quality was outstanding. P.S. had started the asparagus starter when photo was taken

This is a review for both the restaurant and overnight stay. I eat here several times a year but this was the first time I've stayed. The team are super - warm, friendly and funny...makes the pub a relaxed, welcoming place to be. Room was nicely done and fresh milk for tea always gets a big thumbs up from me. Be aware that phone signal is weak (Ramsbury is in a steep valley, it's not the pub's doing) and the wifi can be sketchy (charming pubs come with thick, wifi blocking walls)...the team know where the good spots are and can stear you 😊 if your room is in the coach house the wifi is fine. Food was fabulous as always - I love the seasonality of the dishes. Beer and gin are excellent...but then it should be with such an excellent distillery/brewery. Decent non alcoholic options too - Lucky Saint on draft.

If you want to experience the quintessentially charming English countryside, then The Bell At Ramsbury should be at the top of your list. From the moment you step inside this rustic inn, you'll feel like you've entered another world. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with exposed brick walls, wooden beams, and a warm fire that crackles away in the background. But it’s the staff who really set The Bell apart from other inns. They’re friendly, welcoming, and genuinely interested in making sure you have the best possible experience. From the warm greeting at check-in to the attentive service in the dining room, the staff at The Bell make you feel like you’re part of their family. And speaking of dining, the food is simply divine. The chefs use locally sourced ingredients to create delicious, hearty dishes that are sure to satisfy any craving. Overall, The Bell At Ramsbury is a true gem among inns. Its rustic charm and friendly staff create an atmosphere that is both relaxing and invigorating. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a solo adventure in the countryside, you won’t find a better place than The Bell.

Always a delight. good beer and ale and lovely staff. Pub normally has a good atmosphere with a steady stream of people in. Food has been yummy although last ate here 6 months ago. well worth a visit if you're passing through the area.

Great country pub, lovely atmosphere, they offer a simple menu with a nice selection of food. I had Burger and fries and it was fantastic, the burger it's self was home made and was one of the best I've had, the fries were freshly made thin potatoes fries and they were fantastic, along with the side trimmings and a pint of local beer what more could you ask for. The pub is in a lovely location, the staff where very welcoming and all at a reasonable price.

I arrived when there was a street fair going on on the doorstep! ..even a fire engine with crew helping the little ones scramble all over it. Lovely to see the community spirit. The pub was an oasis of calm and coolness welcome on such a hot day. I was not well and their complicated menu looked too much right at that time but they were great! They cooked me exactly what I wanted and served it in the garden...spacious leafy and pretty. I t was such a relaxing hour out of my journey. I noticed the pub offered a variety of areas to eat in...garden. terrace. Bar. Dining. All looking inviting and well kept.

We had spent a great couple of nights at the Bell with our families for a celebration. Staff are lovely and really helpful, the food is fabulous and the place is decorated and finished to a high standard. Ramsbury itself is a lovely village surrounded by gorgeous countryside. Thanks for a lovely stay

Great member of Male staff at the cafe location at around 130pm Sunday. I only had a coffee but the food looked great, kitchen well organised, open to view from cafe, staff friendly. outside and inside seating. Car park in rear really helped as space limited in high street. Would return for food next time

WOW.... What an experience, I’ve not been here before but the new chef has excelled himself the food was fantastic an amazing combination of flavour and skill executed to such a higher standard it was truly incredible. We will definitely be returning it’s so good to find such great talent locally. Our service was also matched by a very knowledgeable and helpful waitress called Katie (I think) she was very attentive. All in all a fab experience I can’t wait to visit again... keep up the good work and see you all soon!

My experience here has been great. The staff are friendly and professional. The food has been really excellent. The place itself is traditional and modern at the same time. If you come here you will see what I mean. You can stay overnight here. I am very happy with the room which is a dual with en-suite.You can make your own tea and (instant) coffee in the room and there are biscuits in the room, too (common here in UK). There is also real ale brewed locally on the Ramsbury estate. It is a great understatement to write that I have really enjoyed my time at the Bell. Ramsbury itself is a large, beautiful village in a green valley with great walking and cycling. In short, wonderful.

Have eaten here a few times, absolutely amazing especially if you are celiac. Gluten free choices are very good, best pizza I’ve ever had. There is even GF desserts. Excellent service and lovely atmosphere.

Loved this place - food was delicious, team knowledgeable so able to guide us well on our choices. Service was quick and efficient. Portion sizes for me were perfect as they left just enough of a gap for another course, if you wanted. Would definitely recommend.

I can't comment on the rooms as we only went for lunch. I went for the lunchtime menu, creamy gazpacho, really tasty faggots and sticky toffee pudding. All very tasty and served by really friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely go back.

A very good place to stay over en route to somewhere else or to stay the night if you are planning a walking/cycling trip nearby. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the menu selections are excellent. Regarding breakfast they only serve porridge by way of cereals and the full English or variations on it (including vegan I think). There is a bar area but no hotel lounge as such. Again this fits with the overnight Inn theme for those heading out on excursions or continuing their journies elsewhere. For the full hotel experience you would look elsewhere.

This a great traditional pub, with amazing food, drink and friendly staff and locals! I had the steak and a pint of the 'Ramsbury Red'; both were super delicious!! Will definitely be returning soon!

The food and service was spectacular! Some of the best food I have had. We had a celiac with us and the gluten free options were great and the chef even came to speak with us and assure the food was prepared properly.

Stopped for dinner with a good friend. First time visiting the Bell and was pleased. Very pretty village and countryside within striking distance of hungerford and Swindon (and probably as a stop from the M4 too). The Bell is in the centre and is very well presented, clearly well loved with a beautifully presented interior and both a fine dining room and very attractive bar. We sat in the dining room for their formal menu. I gave it 4 stars mostly on the value of the food. The quality is good, with an interesting menu, but the food isn't exceptional (although it wouldn't take much). I had home cured salmon which is delicious followed by lamb rump which was fine- it was perfectly cooked, but slightly chewy with a sauce that didn't quite have the depth of flavour you'd want. The other side of the table had beef tartare which was good, except.for.the cured egg which was weird, followed by pea and mint risotto which was good, but again lacked the depth of flavour of the very best dishes- it was also not quite perfectly cooked, with some wateriness. I mention these things because 2 courses with a glass of wine each was over £120 for 2 which is well into Michelin star territory, and the food didn't quite meet this standard. It's not far off and I wouldn't avoid eating there, it has a warm welcome and a beautiful ambience, but just be aware of the cost.

We visited on Christmas Eve. Pub was busy, lively and we were warmly welcomed. Pros: The food was delicious. The wine choices were good and varied. The beer was also very drinkable (some a little too drinkable). Cons: Service was disjointed. One server was very good and extremely professional but that barely made up for our main server who could not have given off more 'I don't want to be here' vibes if she had screamed it. Wrong menus, wrong orders, messed up a Vegan order several times and took zero pride in her work. Sacking her would seriously be doing the pub a favour. Really liked the 'Environmental Impact Map' was a nice touch (minus the several spelling mistakes) and was good to learn something about a well established local business. Take the service out and this is a lovely place with 'some' very good staff and good food. We will return and hope that the service issues were a one off.

We wanted a coffee and were told to pop in here. The actual pub part looked lovely and the cafe was nice, but felt more like an extension of the restaurant. We were hoping for a sandwich but they didn't have any on the menu, so we had cake instead. The coffee was lovely, service was great.

As someone who regularly visited The Bell in previous years I was disappointed with recent changes. Gone is the exquisite dining menu in preference for a just-better-than-average pub food menu. Equally absent are the flourishes that warrant the £170 per night coach house room charges - no longer are there a couple of complimentary shortbread biscuits, nor the ever handy toothbrush kit (which even value hotels provide these days) and no surprise that the optional slippers are also gone. The service has lost its shine too sadly - not that there was anything wrong with the service (although I had to wait over 20 minutes to get the room key but not to pay for the drinks I ordered at the same time ) - but it no longer differentiates The Bell as one of my must-stay locations in the UK now. Such a shame

Lovely location and decor, staff quite attentive. 2 stars for menu and cost and vfm though . Firstly worth mentioning when we eat out it is definitely not all about the cost but do like to think this is fair and relevant. OK choice of menu average nibbles and starter £8 - £10 each. Mains £16 ( pizzas) up to £30 ++ but without sides ( £4 each) but as is typical of these days buy a main and then have to make up with sides etc to make it a decent meal. Confit duck with veg and no potatoes but only choice was fries or chips which is rather random selection with this meal, burger on menu but then have to buy fries separately etc which mounts up cost along with a 10% service charge. ...one or 2 complete meals on menu ( Fish and chips@£19) Pizzas seemed popular but at £16 pulled pork option was really just like a cheese pizza and try to find the pork... very stingy! That said the dessert rescued this experience to a 3 as was lovely. Probably not rush to go back as felt slightly all over rated here now which is a shame as feels like it has changed with compromising values as reflected in other reviews. Sample menu ( 2021) on site definitely very outdated with prices and options and really shows the comparisons of now.

If you find yourself stuck in Ramsbury with time to kill, there aren't many options, which is a shame. You might get lucky and be served by a younger member of the bar staff who are generally not miserable like the older ones. They offer wifi, but it never works! Best in warmer weather when you can sit in the garden.

J
John Walker

Went for lunch and very much disappointed. £18 for pizza that is below the quality of oven cooked one from supermarket. Haddock coquettes and risotto were ok but very average. Service is terrible with the person behind the bar not letting me place an order for food and instead made me wait for someone to come outside to take my order. Extremely overpriced and very poor quality. God knows why it’s in the Michelin guide.

Gary Remlin

I recently visited the Bell pub in Ramsbury and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. Upon arrival, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming, and the staff seemed indifferent to our presence. The service was slow, and it took ages for someone to take our order. When the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm and lacked flavor. For a pub that prides itself on its menu, I expected much better quality. Additionally, the cleanliness of the place left much to be desired. The tables were sticky, and the restroom facilities were not properly maintained, which is unacceptable for any establishment. Overall, I was left unimpressed and wouldn't recommend the Bell pub to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience. There are plenty of other pubs in the area that offer much better service and food.

D
Dominic Cross

Very mixed feelings here. On the plus side, the atmosphere is nice and the service is pretty good. The fresh baked bread was a nice tough as was spotting that we’d used the butter and bringing us more....BUT....it’s just insanely expensive for what it is. The wine list is extensive, but a good 20% more expensive than anywhere ales in the area. The starter (goats cheese) was tasty but very small. The real issue was the steak. At £29 I’d expect something of quality and substance, but it was tiny, tasteless and truly awful! I have no issue paying a lot of money for good food, but that was, by some considerable distance, the worst steak I’ve had in 20+ years. I don’t know where you source your meat from, but I’d urge you to change supplier and actually think about what you’re serving before it leaves the kitchen. A real shame as the place is nice, but just insanely expensive for low quality produce.

Usually the Bell is top notch, however I went recently on a Tuesday night and had an abysmal meal. We started with the terrine, which was so salty, it was inedible, also capers in a ham hock terrine? The staff replaced this with the burrata which was lovely. We both ordered the smoked beef rib to follow. The rib itself was very good. The sides however were collard greens with the same inedible ham hock from the terrine and a Coleslaw that was so laden with salt I literally spat it out on reflex. As a private chef with Michelin experience I thought this was worse than poor, it was negligence. The cook reportedly said the coleslaw was fine which is unbelievable. The staff to their credit didn’t charge for the food and would have comped the entire meal but we insisted on paying for our drinks. Tuesday is often the B team, but that was Z team.

N
Nicole Turvill

Food is overpriced, tiny portions and manager was extremely rude. When a polite complaint was made about size of the venison dish, he asked that we pay and leave! 1 small croquette to start and 3 slithers of venison was very disappointing!
