Wow what a great experience we had. It was pur first time trying Sri Lankan food. We started off ordering a bunch of drinks. Some imported from Sri Lanka like Elephant house Melon and ginger beer. We had the passion splash, nelli crush. Not only were they colorful and beautiful but each had a distinct taste and took us on a journey to prepare for out delicious meal. We ordered the shrimp lamprias in a banana leaf. 10 star. Devine and delicious. Rice with cashew curry, caramelized eggplant, fried fish cake and fried egg, plantains that had a hint of coconut and other things. We devoured this. Great dish for first time people. We ordered the vegetarian devolied firecracker. I loved the lotus root and eggplant. Nice coating and taste. I ordered this mid spicy sp I could try how thry may eat it. My friend cant eat spicy and this restaurant did a great job giving the exact spice adjustment you request. Crispy flavorful veggies. We ordered this pyramid looking dish called Kothu with chicken and string hoppers. What a hit. The dipping sauce was amazing. I had housemade hot paste to add. Now the desserts are a must. The Ceylon Falooda blew my mind. It was like across between an icecream float and bobba but unique and rosy. 10 star. The watalallan flan was tasty. The Semiya Payasam pudding was warm and comforting. Well be back to try all the other foods we didn't get to taste. Highly recommend. Sansi our waitress was kind and explained everything.
Food was great and service was really good as well. Everything was made fresh
The food was delicious and the customer service was exceptional. Both workers were so kind and pleasant. Definitely will be back and recommend ! It’s so hard to find good Sri Lankan food around, but this place definitely meets my expectations.
Such attention to detail and care!! Ordered the shrimp biriyani, which was spiced perfectly. Full of shrimp too! The fried chicken leg was also unlike anything I’ve had before
Out of the three srilankan restaurants tried so far, this is my favorite. Excellent service and Hats Off to the chef. I am from Kerala, India, and have to say, the dishes were very similar to Kerala and Tamil Nadu cuisine (Pittu[Puttu]& Stringhopper ( [Idiyappam]. Following were the dishes that we ordered and I would definitely recommend to everyone. Also I did go mild on the spice levels. Lamprais, Kothu Roti, Deviled Chicken, Island Fried Rice, Chicken Biriyani. The desert Watallapam is excellent.
What a hidden gem!! This place has the best Sri Lankan food I've tried in the states. The interior is clean and the staffs are friendly. I read their webpage on the story of the restaurant. It is own by a Sri Lankan couple - one Singhalese and one Tamil. Their love represents the union of the two groups of folks who had long lasting conflict and tension in the country. At this restaurant, you can experience the culinary fusion of the two distinct tradition. We ordered: - mutton roll 5/5 - calamari lamprais 6/5 AMAZING!! - deviled king fish 5/5 Their mutton roll is stuffed with filling - I love how thin the crust is, you really get a taste of the chunky juicy protein. The lamprais is infused with the aromantic banana leaf, along with the colorful and spiceful sides. They are so generous with their portions. It was my first time trying lamprais and I'm now addicted. I highly recommend getting this dish. One thing about Sri Lankan food is it tends to be on the spicer side (think Thai spicy). We were glad to see all items on the menu had a "mild" option. The lamprais is a safe option for those that can't eat spicy. The deviled king fish (mackerel) is a popular fish consumed in Sri Lanka. We got mild but it was still spicy. It was flavored so nicely so if you like spice and saucy dishes, this is the one for you! It was served with bell peppers and onions. We were so full we didn't get to try their desserts but they have many classic desserts options as well! We can't wait to be back to try their curry and other dishes. This place was such a nice hidden gem I really hope everyone will come give it a try!
Went for a low key lunch with the wifey. Food was very good and we both had plenty to take home. Had the Thali and the Firecracker dish. Very well presented. Thali was vegetarian, liked the smoked curry dish and the pineapple curry, rest was good too. Dhal was tasty but made plainly as part of the Thali, very easy to get a side of chili paste to pick it up. The Chicken firecracker dish was on the bone, spicy and flavorful, very good. Service was excellent despite doing a ton of takeout/delivery business. The chef, a nice lady, came out to check and see how we were enjoying everything. Very welcoming. Will be coming back again. No liquor license as of now, but they had a Coming Soon section for that, and a large long bar, so I believe they are working on it.
We had ordered takeout from Spicy Lanka before, and the food was so delicious that we decided to come back for dinner. We started with island pockets and veggie rolls as appetizers—both were excellent. For entrées, we ordered pittu and fried noodles, which tasted amazing. The service was great, and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this place.
I've been a few times with differing group sizes. Everything I've had here has been top-notch. My favorites so far are the goat bone soup, the lamprais, and the deviled dishes. The goat bone soup blew me away when I first tasted it. Really hearty and fragrant. The lamprais (forgot to take a picture) is also great, always comforting and the toppings are all lovely.
Loved this place. The Sri Lankan thali was the star, full of bold flavors, perfectly balanced spices, and that true home style comfort you don’t get everywhere. Every item on the plate felt fresh and thoughtful. The staff were kind, the vibe was cozy, and the food made me feel like I was getting a taste of Sri Lanka on a single plate. Definitely coming back.
Spicy Lanka is absolutely amazing! The food is full of authentic flavor — perfectly spicy and delicious. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience feel just like home. I’ll definitely be coming back again soon! Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves real Sri Lankan cuisine.
We’ve had Sri Lankan food before, but this place surpasses the rest. For appetizers we had the Lankan Crunch Rolls, Island Pockets & Fish Cutlets. They were so delicious. For our main courses we picked the Island Fried Rice with egg, the Kingfish Lamprais, the Spice Island Thali (one veggie & one with shrimp), the Beef Firecracker Bites, the Beef Kothu and the Chicken Biryani. The flavors & spices are nothing like we’ve ever tasted before. Such unique, mouth watering flavors that really capture the authenticity of Sri Lankan food. Our hostess was Sherrille who was very polite, gracious & delightful. Oh & we can’t forget dessert. We had the Watalappan which was incredibly decadent & delicious, probably our favorite. We also had the Kiri Pani which was a mix of tangy & sweet. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who’s looking to get a real taste of traditional, authentic Sri Lankan food.
OMG never had Sri Lankan food before and I am soooo impressed with Spicy Lanka! First off, don’t let the name fool you, the spicy level can be adjust from mild to very spicy for just about every entree they serve. I had the Chicken Lamprais, which is described as “ Chicken curry, paired with fragrant rice and an assortment of flavorful accompaniments, seeni sambol, eggplant moju, cashew curry, and plantain curry, creates a dining experience that's both nuanced and indulgent. The banana leaf wrap imparts a distinctive aroma, encapsulating the history of the Portuguese settlement.” So many flavorful and unique tastes, and an incredible value at $16. No way I could finish it all. That said I did leave room for dessert! I had the Watalappan, which I would describe as a Sri Lankan flan. OMG again! So much creamier and tastier than many flans I’ve tried. Also, the restaurant is beautiful and the service impeccable. Loop in a stroll through nearby Forest Park and you have a great day in store for you!
I had never tried Sri Lankan food before, but I'm glad I discovered this restaurant on my way back from rehearsals. My host, Sherrill, was incredibly gracious, kind, and helpful. I ordered the cucumber salad, which was the best I've ever had. It was so fresh! For my main meal, I had the kingfish curry with vegetables and rice, and it was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be coming back! Update: I came back and was served by Sanjita this time and I had the mutton Biryani which had lovely spices, I also had the Watalappan dessert which is unassuming when you look at it but it packs a punch and lovely texture to it. A really fantastic restaurant.
One of the most authentic Sri Lankan foods we have ever had from this restaurant. The food was so delicious and their customer service was on point. There were some items we wanted but weren't there, so the owner compensated for those items. The environment was great and it's a good place to hangout with friends and family. I would love to go there again!
