Excellent place to get the catering. Such friendly staff and the owner. Thank you Omar 🙏🏻
Very Good Halal Restaurant, it was the first time that I tried Chinese food and I quite enjoyed Alhamdulillah, the service was great and the food was better I recommend everything
My family has been eating here since the time of the previous owner who came from Taiwan decades ago. In the past, the place is mostly known for its sesame naan (芝麻大餅) as well as halal stir fry. The new owner from Lanzhou, however, brought with him the amazing hand pulled noodles commonly seen in Northwestern China. The chili oil noodles (油潑麵) and knife cut noodles (刀削麵) are both worth trying, and I hope he would include more noodle dishes in the future
Came here with friends for a relaxing Sunday lunch. They re-opened under new management, with the majority of their classical cuisine unchanged but several new specialties added. We had Chinese lamb burger (pita bread filled with lamb), fried lamb dumplings, and Mutton-Haslet soup. Pleased to find their pita bread in Chinese lamb burger was freshly baked, very crispy. The lamb filled in the burger was stir-fried with onion and cumin, giving the burger a very authentic Chinese Islamic taste! Servants were friendly. We had a good time here and would definitely suggest for both Islamic and non-Islamic people.
This place is really good. Food is very tasty. Beef with green onion is a must as well as the Kung Pao Chicken
I order from here for the first time the other day and I loved it. their beef was for me very spicy but so delicious
China Islamic has been through its ups and downs, but its a place that will always have a special place in my heart. I've been going to this place as a child ever since it was founded. The original owners have passed the restaurant down through the generations, but the quality has overall remained steadfast. The cuisine is definitely Chinese but there are certain menu items specific to the Islamic or Xijinag branch of Chinese people that happen to be Muslim. The clientele usually cant even tell, and plenty of traditionally Chinese people go there on the regular. There are a few items that i ALWAYS get: chicken corn soup, thin green onion bread, beef with mixed vegetables. There is also a great sweet and spicy soup.
The best Chinese food I've tasted period! My entire family(12) total asked when we could return before I had a chance to finish paying. Go portions and the best quality flavors. 10/10
This is our battlefield for tonight!! Loving the lamb backbone warm pot. Very tender meat with flavorful broth are the best combination. Chinese Cumin Lamb Burger is a must have!! Will be back soon for sure!!
Very clean inside. The food is also very clean. I did not feel bloated after eating. I really enjoyed the pickled cabbage and lamb.
Dining here has been a great experience. , their soups and food including , chicken chow menu, Kung pao chicken and Mongolian beef with green onion bread Is a must for a meal . service is excellent Highly recommend to anyone coming to Rosemead Being Halal makes it so much better.
Everything was delicious. I especially enjoyed their wide range if noodles The prices were reasonable. Very friendly place. Definitely want to eat here again!
Very good chinese cuisine and fast service. Waiter was polite and attentive Prices a bit more than whats listed online We had bread with onion that was freshly backed, sweet corn soup, fried beef dumpling, Mongolian beef and sweet and sour shrimp
I have tried many chinese lamb soup around the area and this place has the best soup so far. Although the parking lot is small.
Love the food here!!! Seriously you have to try it if you’re in the area! My family and I love to get Kung Pao Chicken/Beef, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and WE LOVE THE CHICKEN CORN SOUP. We have been coming for almost 20 years. The quality does NOT disappoint. Thank you so much!
Have been here for the second time, the food is wonderful and very delicious as it was before. The interior became a bit better, guess they had some renovation. The service was also good. I initially wanted to cancel my visit to that place based on some reviews, but decided to go anyway. And was really happy that decided to go there. Definitely recommend!
The food is very good. We came all the way from Glendale and the food was delicious. We ordered and the food was ready quick(within 10 mins) and we were very surprised. Omor the person who served us was helpful and kind. We are happy with his service and will definitely be coming back.
We ordered crispy duck, sliced fish with mushroom and black pepper, three flavor chow mein, creamy chicken corn soup, beef dumplings, and sesame bread. Everything was delicious. The owner is very nice and helpful.
Amazing food with the benefit of being halal. Hands down the best food in LA!
The biggest appeal to this restaurant was that the menu is completely halal. However, even if it wasn't, there is no doubt the food would still be top notch. It was my first time coming here and the server was particularly helpful in explaining what menu items she recommended. The sesame chicken was very good and there were plenty of other options as well. It was also a very clean restaurant. I will definitely put this on my places to go whenever I visit L.A.
I went there after a long time, I think owners have changed, food quality was good overall service was good too as we went late and no other customers except us. The restaurant is clean. Chicken Wontons and beef with hot sauce was good hot, and sour soup was ok. Egg fried rice was not the best quality as rice was a little hard. Their sesame bread thin or thick both excellent 👌 Try it! It's a Zabiha Halal restaurant 😋
Great service. Awesome food. I had the sesame chicken and my buddy had the sweet and sour chicken . Both were amazing and the white rice was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend to all. Plus it's Halal which is a higher quality of product....
This restaurant has close to 40 years history of continuous operation in, arguably, one of the most competitive market for Chinese foods in the USA. It's due to a combination of high quality of foods and unique niche market segment (Islamic Chinese foods).
Fair food for good price. Amazing service and the young man took good care of me. I was there for a quick lunch special and I’ll come back when I’m close to the area.
Great food and very friendly staff. The dishes were very generous. The special green onion sesame seed bread was huge! The salty fish was amazing too. Kid friendly dishes and adult approved taste. Will definetly go here again.
Great food, recommend thick pancake, beef dumplings, and cucumber. Very friendly service but food took a while (large party) was interesting to try a new cuisine but felt familiar at the same time.
The food was fantastic! It was incredibly delicious, and, most importantly, it was prepared in accordance with halal guidelines. We were a group of five adults and five children, and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the unfamiliar dishes we ordered.
One of the best Chinese places I've ever been to. We ordered several dishes and all were made to order and absolutely tasty. I'm taking the whole family next time.
Very nice Chinese Restaurant. I had Chicken creamy corn soup and ordered 3 flavor fried rice to go. Taste quality is very satisfactory. They offer free green tea on all orders. Restaurant can seat around 50 individuals at least and very conveniently located with designated parking lot.
AMAZING! Such a hidden gem. We were blown away by the quality of the food, the kind service and the variety of the menu. We had plenty for leftovers and everyone found something they loved on the menu. Overall, great restaurant. Wish we lived closer!
This review is both nostalgic and current. My family has been coming here since the 80s and I have very fond memories of coming during the 90s/2000s. Growing up near Rosemead this was the only halal Chinese restaurant at the time and very convenient as it was so close to home. After many years of going to other places in orange county etc., I decided to come back and try with now a family of my own. The food is very good and prices are comparable. I like that we are able to get seated right away and can make reservations ahead of time for big parties. This is a great convenience as we don’t have to travel far distances for similar experiences and longer wait times. If you are in the area or considering good halal food please give china islamic a try.
**Restaurant Review: China Islamic Restaurant 清真马家馆** I recently had the pleasure of dining at China Islamic Restaurant 清真马家馆, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The Mongolian beef was perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful, with a rich sauce that complemented the dish beautifully. The egg rolls were crisp and fresh, with a delightful filling that made each bite a joy. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, and the staff were incredibly attentive and courteous, enhancing the overall dining experience. A special thank you to the team at China Islamic Restaurant for their outstanding service and delicious food. 我特别感谢你们的服务和美味的食物. Highly recommended! Hassan Z.
We are visiting from Tampa, FL where we do not have any halal Chinese food. So this was a special treat! The food was very good overall and what was excellent was the hand-pulled noodles! Do yourselves a favor and order the hand-pulled noodle dishes! The Mongolian Beef was also good. The stuffed bread was a bit bland for our taste (I am Iranian and we have some amazing breads...). Overall, a very good experience!!
The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The owner even came by to greet us, which was a really nice touch. My family and I had a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend this place.
I visited this place yesterday and it was great experience. The sesame bread was awesome. The lamb burger was very unique and yummy! We tried the lamb noodles and the fried rice with shrimp and they were super! The portions were very big and we ended up taking a lot of food home. The prices are reasonable and the service was fast. Highly recommended!
Recently visited this place during Labor Weekend. The food is authentic Chinese, absolutely delicious and HALAL. They are short on staff and we had to wait for about 45 minutes for our food. When the food arrived it was fresh and hot. We forgot to take any pictures. We ordered Three flavor fried rice( chicken, beef and shrimp combo), three flavor chow Mein, sesame chicken and Mongolian beef. All of the items tasted great. I would definitely recommend this place.
The beef stew with glass noodles is the best item on the menu. I honestly don’t know why I only rated this restaurant at 4 stars…..! I went back to correct my mistake! Let me say this a d humbly; I LOVE the food at this restaurant! So fresh, and delicious! Not to mention, that I find to be the most authentic amongst any Asian, and Chinese food place I’ve tried before! The spicy beef burger (with cumin) is a MUST have! I literally cry from joy when I eat it! Haha.
As a native Chinese, I can testify the taste here is very authentic
Been coming here for decades. Reminds me of my grandfather who always enjoyed this restaurant. Food is clearly halal. Just wish there was enough space for prayer.
It was Real Chinese style hot and sour soup and very delicious Mongolian Beef Halal Chinese, Authentic food.😊
Me and my husband went for dinner tonight We ordered curry chicken, lamb with green onion, 3 flavor rice and their famous green onion bread. Everything was amazing and tasty, and the service was fast and friendly. My favorite Chinese restaurant since i was 4 years old 😍
This is a rare gem in the city. The food came quite quickly and was the best Chinese food I have had in a while. We ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and Chicken fried rice. Our server was quite helpful and gave us suggestions. This is a rare GEM in the city and we would definitely go again in our next trip. You must try it out!
Alhamdulillah food was good hard to found halal food I'm so glad they have halal food... I want to visit again orange chicken was delicious... Chowmin was good 👍 fried rice so tasty thank you so much giving us halal food ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Food tasted very fresh! Service is good, we enjoyed every dished we had ordered!
My husband and I were absolutely blown away by the quality and flavors of the dishes at China Islamic Restaurant! We and 2kidstried their 靖远特色炒羊肉 (Signature Braised Lamb), 主厨推荐酸辣宽粉 (Chef’s Special Sour & Spicy Wide Noodles), and 西北凉皮 (Northwest Cold Noodles), beef dumplings and every dish was amazing. The portions are generous and perfect for sharing, and the prices are super reasonable for the quality. The lamb was tender and flavorful, the wide noodles had the perfect balance of sourness and spice, and the cold noodles were refreshing and flavorful. This place is a must-try if you’re looking for authentic West North Chinese cuisine !
Simply sublime! The best Chinese me and my wife have ever had. So authentic. Halaal. Plenty of seating available. Friendly staff. Parking on site and roadside available. Authentic menu. Great variation. Chilli chicken is a must!!! We are contemplating flying back to LA just to enjoy this meal again!
Quality and consistency over many years. This place has been an absolute jewel. This trip the egg rolls were slightly over cooked but still delicious. Everything else was cooked to perfection and the service was timely and professional.
Well, this is the only one Chinese muslin cuisine restaurant in town. I have been dining there since the 1980s with my parents and friends. Not just bring back the old days memories but a new adventure of dining at a Chinese muslin restaurant. This restaurant is not very popular among the favorites of Chinese food, but I gave them five stars if we are rating the Northwestern Chinese flavor of lamps and beefs. The sesame bread is a best selling dish and also the lump bones with veggie soup.
Halal Chinese - excellent whether it's halal or not. Classic, great service, no frills, traditional restaurant. The lamb burger is delicious, the beef dumplings are savory, the beef noodle soup is full bodied. Also, get the cold sliced beef - it's like Philipes but better. The price points are not inflated. To compare, we went to Yang's Kitchen the night before - and I would take this any day of the week over Yang's food. Would recommend it anytime you can get there.
The coveted hole-in-the-wall type of restauraunt, this place serves savory and Halal friendly Chinese dishes that is sure to catch your attention. Their dishes are also quite reasonably priced, especially since they tend to be served in generous portions.
Excellent Chinese halal food option in LA
This was our first visit in last 10 years. It is still fantastic, quite, neat, warm and friendly employees. We ordered three dishes, every each of them deserves a 5 star.
I went here today and the food was so good! The server was really nice and the food was well presented. The sweet and sour chicken is a MUST HAVE! The place is very nice and we've been coming here for years!

I went on a whim while looking for a new place to sample. Ufortunately I showed up just before closing at the end of the lunch-time hours. They were so kind and welcomed us in anyway. I felt very welcomed and ordered a couple of simple dishes to get an idea of what to expect for my next visit. The two plates reassured me that this places takes great pride in the quality of their dishes. I will not go into details as it was a quick trip, but nonetheless got a really great meals and was treated with the best service. I will definitely check the business hours before my next visit. I can't wait to try some of the more exotic dishes!
We visited China Islamic yesterday. The food was excellent and the service was attentive and friendly. Great experience overall.
I was in a rush and ordered some vegetable chow mein and egg rolls to go — my order was ready in less than 7 minutes AND, the food was absolutely delicious! THANK YOU. Gonna stop by again for sure. (Vegetarian friendly!)
The food here is really tasty and fresh. The portion sizes are big enough to fill you up, and the prices are very reasonable. Overall, great taste, good value for money, and a place I’d definitely recommend.

A Chinese Islamic restaurant serving North Western Chinese cuisine. Very good lamb soups and perfectly done sesame onion bread. Perfect for a cold day in LA.
This place feels like a culinary institution whose main motto is "food is to be enjoyed together". From the huge soup bowls to large sesame breads, everything on the menu seems focused on sharing. That being said, the lone diner can still enjoy the melding of umami, sweet and spicy halal Chinese flavors. They will make your Beijing-style Mushu with plenty of gusto, but watch closely, because you're on your own while finishing the leftovers at home!
The restaurant is nice but the food is a bit bland. The sauces redeem and add flavor to the meal. The service is fast and friendly... Barely had to wait 5 minutes for the food to come out.
Muslim Chinese is delicious! ! Had the sautéed lamb, could've used more spice. I waited too long for the veggies, but in the end went away satisfied. Not much ambiance, but basic and clean.
I visited on New Year's Day 2025! They have a very small parking lot, but there are also free spots on the street. The menu is extensive. The "Chinese pizza" is very popular. I got the thicker sesame onion bread, but it's a lot for only two people. I recommend sharing this with a bigger group or plan to take leftovers home. They were out of the #38 lamb stew warm pot that night, so I opted for #36 lamb with pickled cabbage warm pot. This was very tasty (it's supposed to be kinda sour) and so good on a cold night. The #67 cumin lamb was very good. The #109 hand-pulled wide noodle with hot sauce was surprisingly good. The male server spoke both Mandarin Chinese and some English. I would come back! Credit card accepted. Bathroom available.
I used to come on a regular basis with the old ownership back in the 90s and 2000s when it was real halal with more staff. It had since changed owners over time, and expect that things are different now. I tried lunching here with family last weekend and they had some of the good dishes that we're still noteworthy. Bread/ onion/sesame n beef onion are fantastic and I'd say same or better than the past. The hot pot soup with cabbage is exactly the way I remember it tastes and my family loves it. The cold noodles are completely different from the old management but not in a bad way, just a different style and flavoring. The only bad thing is, the service is super slow, one waitress n one cook, so speed is not like it was before. The waitress is nice but the wait time needs to be vastly improved for serving food. Patrons we're starting conversations with each other about the wait time of food.... So I think Ill come back here on an off time or get take out.
This restaurant has been our favorite Halal Chinese spot since the 1990s. While some dishes don't taste quite the same as they used to—likely due to changes in ownership over time—it’s still a comforting place for a Chinese dine-in experience. Their lunch specials are worth trying, as they come with soup and an egg roll. However, the corn soup isn’t as good anymore; it's lacking flavor and is too thick. On the bright side, the egg rolls are still tasty! I particularly enjoyed the chow mein dishes and the chicken kung pao. The beef and broccoli are also worth mentioning—the meat is very tender. The service is great and quick. If you're in the area and craving some Chinese food, I'd recommend giving this place a try!
Nice place for the Chinese food with an option with Lamb. lamb cumin or chicken with hot peppers are having distinguish taste. Lamb dumplings are also very good though a bit pricey!!

Visited here again yesterday and we were told that they just reopened so no dumplings, no knife cut noodles, no cold dishes and something I can't recall...we ended up ordered some pan friend noodles that was just ok and some stir fry vegetables and beef. Went to other restaurant afterwards for a second dinner. Probably won't be back here until they get things straightened out..
I would say this place was just okay. We came here on a Friday for lunch. When we came in, the place was completely empty, by the time we left, there were 2 other parties. The restaurant looked outdated from the inside and out. Ambiance was not very welcoming. After being seated, we had to wave someone down to take our order, even though we were the only customers there. The food was okay, some dishes were more tasty than others.
The restaurant is alright, nothing great. There are a lot of great eateries nearby, but this was one of the two halal restaurants within the vicinity of Monterey Park. We ordered fried duck, pan fried noodles with lamb, and steamed beef dumplings. The gravy with the pan fried noodles was a little too salty and thick for my tastes. The beef dumplings were pretty good. Would recommend this only if you're looking for halal food, otherwise there's a ton of other options to choose from.
Best thing was the fried beef dumplings everything else was basic take out quality and taste. Theres lots of nicer places to sit at even if the food is the same stars.
The food is so so. We came here looking for curry lamb we fell in love with in SF. But the lamb here was orange as compared to yellow and saltier. The service wasn't terribly great. The head madam seemed to be bored beyond belief. It's a bit far for me to visit again but I'd rather drive all the way up to SF Instead.
Back in the day, before this new management arrived, this place was great. Since I was a child my family came here. But now, the prices have been raised, the food quality has gone down, there are two people (including the manager) serving dishes to the whole restaurant. Things have just gone downhill, and I don't think we'll be back.
The good was not as delicious and well cookedvand spiced as it was in 2018, 2019. It used be full of customers. When we went it was almost empty. They only had one server andthecquality if food was not good.
The food was okay, but then the guy followed me to the parking lot demanding a tip. I'm a passerby from the midwest and I know of no restaurant that does this. This place needs Chef Ramsay to teach them proper customer service. I also asked the guy where the local "masjid" around the area is, they were all clueless as to that word. No doubt, God is the only judge, but are we sure these people are of the Islamic faith? You know how to slap the word halal on a building to drag customers in, but you have no idea what a masjid is?
Okay so basically, they got rid of the lunch special. And my family came here since we moved and once we moved again a few years ago, we visit sometimes. So we come, there's only one more table with people and there used to be a bit of a crowd. Anyway, they got rid of the lunch special, everything is way more pricey and the portions have decreased rapidly. And it took, SO long to get our food. But the bright side, and the only reason this review has two stars, is because of the fortune cookies. I miss the people who ran it before these ones aren't so good... Not returning.
I suspect that they're mostly in business because of non-Chinese clientele. The last time I came here for lunch the customers were about 60% non-Chinese. Food quality and quantity have decreased over the years. It's a shame too, the food here used to be pretty good. It feels like it's hanging on by a thread these days; tables, chairs, dishes and teapots all look and feel like they were last updated in the 1990s.
We came from Dallas, we were super excited to know there is a Chinese halal food, we ordered Chinese beef noodle soup(牛肉面),spicy ox strip, spring rolls, combination fried rice, onion bread, dumplings etc. We were very disappointed from their beef noodle soup, that’s not authentic beef noodle soup at all! They literally throw few big chunk of beef and bok choy in a water and prepared and store bought noodle, Beef noodle soup does taste like it at all, and noodle is not professional. Spicy ox strip was too much soy sauce in it. I don’t think I want to visit this restaurant again we have trip to LA.
Every time I came here they always get some of my order wrong. Whether I have take out or dined in. t's due to mainly their staff mostly are not knowledgeable in English. Once they understood their mistake we've never received an apology. The food here is good but service is what is terrible. After you tip them 15% they will tell you to tip more. Even if you've dined alone or taken food to go and most of the time when you're dining in they won't check on you.
Today, I thought that I would be buying my childhood favorite food. But instead, I ordered and bought some expensive, generic Chinese food. Lunch specials are kiddy portions and even the sesame bread is smaller. The manager didn't care about my complaints and told me that I should've asked. The problem is that there was a language barrier between myself and the main waitress who took my order. This was the last time that I travel 45 minutes to get small, flavorless portions of Chinese food.
Low stars because of the customer service. Expected the soup to come out first but the server randomly bought items out and just threw them onto the table all together. No regular checkin, to the point i had to go find her for the check and to go boxes. Still was not coming to the table as she should’ve as this is a restaurant. Didn’t leave a tip because I was annoyed we had wasted about 15 mins while she stood there talking to her staff when only 2 tables in the whole restaurant were occupied. She had the audacity to ask why I didn’t leave a tip. As a family owned restaurant since the 1980s they should know better. Prices had halal tax included. Overall food was good but experience was poor.
food taste horrible, portion is small, not worth the money!dont go!!
Good food as in any Chinese restaurant, but this place was the epitome of a thrifty chinese islamic culture in LA... i.e. Server would not take back a lamb dish 'Cumin Lamb' (that we did not eat and only touched it with the utensil it came with to show the server that it does not look eatable) since it had 5% actual meat and 95% Fat. We were still charged the full price without any exchange (which we paid since we are not confrontational) As it is, Lamb is expensive for it's tender Meat, not for it's Fat, So you cannot expect someone to pay $15 for a pound of fat with 10 grams of meat. And that's just one of the many issues...**Overall what this place had in decent food, contrasted horribly with their customer service and lack of integrity! Not going to recommend if anyone is looking for an honest use of their money!!
I think they change ownership, very disappointed! not as expected. The dishes are very different than other China Islamic which with same Chinese name that I have tried in other cities! If you have try other restaurants like in North Cal Bay Area than you will know the difference!
Ordered three flavor chow mein which included shrimp and pan fried lamb dumplings 6/29/2022 @7:50pm. The lamb dumplings were under cooked and the shrimp was SPOILED! I would usually let this roll off my back because this is a Halal restaurant, but the chef not only endangered my wife and I. This chef endangered my SON! I will no longer patronize this establishment. I was going to call and complain, but I figured instead of being upset and giving off any negative energy to the other person on the phone; I will just leave a review in case the manager wonders why I don't come there anymore. I was a regular that ordered crispy duck and the pan fried lamb dumplings that always left a tip even if it was takeout. It is a shame because I have been coming here since 2009 if I remember correctly and 13 years of patronage has ended because of a careless chef. The quickest way to lose business is to endanger a man's family. Writing this review probably hurts me more than it hurts them and it really is a shame.
Very disappointed went in expecting a good service Told waiter about friends allergy and she still brought him out the food and had the nerve to say we confirmed it, when a customer says they are allergic to certain item saying it only has a tiny bit does not make it safe. The waiter then had the nerve to ask my friend if he wanted to take the food home as he was to kind and still paid for it Terrible service and lack of understanding on allergies which could cost someone their life I would avoid this place if you have allergies or friends who suffer from allergies
We have been going to china islamic for years until this happened on last to go order. never again will we go to china islamic. An order to go, they ruffled up lots of tin foil and inserted it in the bottom of to go trays. They than put 50% less food in the trays. We realized what they did when we started to eat and ran short on the meal. All this after such a large increase on their prices. My family has been going there for over 25 years; never again will be buy food from them.
I can’t complain anything about the food, it was good. But, Owner was very rude. He does not seem to know of how to make the patron happy. He charged us 18% of gratitude without telling us about it before sitting us. He did not come to our table to find out if we are happy with the food or if we needed anything else such as water or any extra dishes. Once I got the bill, I gave him positive feed back about his food. And , then I told him “don’t you think we deserve to have a bit better service since you charged us service charge”. he was not happy about my statement and told us that if I was trying to teach him about how to run his business. I found it strange that he is running a restaurant and shows negative attitude toward his patrons who are his blessing for business, I mean to make money.
was my favorite place. prices have skyrocketed ridiculously and portions/quality have gone down. because of that, i can’t ignore also how the staff is very unprofessional and demeaning. go somewhere else, not to spend $$$ on poor quality .
Went to the place ordered to go. I was told 20 minutes but Waited 55 minutes for the order. She should have told me the truth so I could switch to something else. Instead she just said 5 more minutes every time I checked. The size of the pan cake was half it used to be but the price was inflated quite a bit. It is not worth to go to this place anymore.
