Absolutely loved staying here. The food is fantastic and of such high quality, the beef shin was the best meal I have had in a long time and everything is reasonably priced. The rooms are cosy and. Comfortable, shared a very comfy bed with my sister the staff are friendly, welcoming and couldn't be more accommodating! I would be happy to pay more to stay here again, and will certainly be coming back. Thank you x

Visited for food and drinks. Fantastic service, food was beautiful.🥰 Writing review whilst sat finishing our drinks. We are that impressed. I had steak frites, hubby had brisket and boy had homemade fish fingers. We all wanted to share because all the meals tasted so good. Dog friendly too which is a bonus 😊

15 of us enjoyed a family get together Sunday lunch. Food served timely. Great choice, great atmosphere. We were royally looked after. Many thanks to all the team for making us feel so welcomed.

Absolutely fabulous little pub. From the outside it looks like a quaint little country pub, but their food was amazing and better than I have had in many restaurants.my family and I visited on steak night (Thursday), and had beautifully cooked rib eye steaks paired with red wine. All finished off with some incredible deserts. We all practically rolled out the pub on the way out very very happy!

My partner and I stayed a night here whilst on a weekend trip. We were very pleasantly greeted by the phenomenally friendly staff, blown away by the absolutely fantastic food and had a wonderful nights sleep in the excellent room we stayed in! It was a totally pleasurable experience and I would 100% return!

Yesterday, eight of us came here for an evening dinner and drinks. I was quietly looking forward to eating here, and whilst I normally don't write reviews, I felt compelled to leave a rating. What really impressed me with The Cross Keys was their care and attention to detail before and during our visit. Our party had dairy free, gluten free, and vegetarian diners - not the easiest group at the best of times - yet a menu had been set aside that detailed all of our needs. We could bring dogs. It was okay that a couple of people had cancelled, so we were a bit smaller. They were really nice and attentive to us throughout. The whole experience was lovely, like being in someone's house for dinner. Speaking of dinner, the food was great. It's a meat-forward menu, so if you're into that, have the steak frites. This is important to note because they can cook a bavette steak perfectly medium-rare, whilst serving seven other dishes, in the middle of service on a Saturday. The burgers were also a hit, and the bourbon brisket was an intriguing choice that I almost made instead. I wish I had space for dessert. Should I come back to the area, I'll be sure to check it out. If you're in the area and are looking to celebrate, come to this place. Eat the steak frites. Drink the local beer. Check out their dessert menu - and unlike me, show it some love.

We had a warm welcome at the reception of this cosy pub and attentive staff. Great selection on the menu and great service. We decided on.... Fresh warm bread and oil and olives to start followed by a superbly cooked, high quality fillet steak and real chunky chips, huge onion rings and tasty pepper corn sauce, mushroom and tomato. Crispy duck salad with a surprise kick from the chillies, delicious. Dessert didn't disappoint either, all served by friendly staff. Our room was fresh and clean - we could hear the heavier traffic, however that was outweighed by convenience/location. Great value for money.

The staff here have been excellent. It's become our local while on holiday at a nearby campsite, and the staff have been so attentive. There was a big party of us, and they didn't bat an eyelid when we asked if we could hang out here instead of at the campsite in the pouring rain. Little things that made a huge difference like checking we had the right number of puddings ordered (there are 16 of us), or reserving the conservatory at the back so we could play board games together. And the food has been superb. One of the best burgers I've ever tasted, and chips that were crisp, but not oily. Love it, just wish it were closer to home so it could become my regular at home as well as on holiday!

Just spent 3 nights here from 19th-22nd September. Truly a gem of a find. All the staff and locals were very friendly and we felt we totally fitted in from the start. The room we stayed in was perfect and clean. The food was delicious. Ours dogs were made very welcome too. Very reasonably price drinks and accommodation. We would definitely return and I do highly recommend this place. It is close to the A4 but the traffic didn't keep me awake, I got used to the noise.

Booked for a table of 8 through opentable, table was ready even though we arrived slightly early. All the food came out promptly, was fantastically presented and tasted incredible. Great range of drinks and some lovely cask ales. Brilliant, attentive service. Easy 5*.

Lovely Inn nestled in a very picturesque part of Herefordshire. Was a little hard to find originally as the postcode given by booking .com took us to the wrong place but that's not the fault of the Inn. Very traditional looking Inn with plenty of space in the car park and very lovely staff to welcome us in as we were a little late due to traffic. Room is beautiful with part exposed brick and really adds to the rustic look that is ongoing throughout the pub. The room was a very nice size with a very comfy bed that gave a very good night's sleep. We ordered the breakfast for the morning and it was very good in quality and quantity. The singing chef also adds to the atmosphere and is actually a very good singer (not sure if he knew we could hear him). Would recommend and will be returning again.

We managed to get a table for four at very short notice, what a lovely venue, really impressed with the Sunday roasts and vegetarian and vegan options. Lovely cosy pub, just how it should be. They asked wasbthe food ok? Ok? It was bloody lovely. Shame we're not local.

Lovely warm welcome...Nice rooms..very clean and tidy....we stayed the weekend..evening meal was excellent...I had the burger and it was cooked to perfection..my friends had the Thai curry...and Ravioli..and they enjoyed their meals too... Only problem ....the bypass is close by...so it can be a tad noisy...however that's not their fault....and after all " they were there first!!!"... It certainly didn't spoil the weekend too much either..! Very happy to recommend the " Cross keys".... THANKYOU A VERY ENJOYABLE WEEKEND.

Absolutely fantastic food! Myself and party of 8 ate at The Cross Keys last saturday after a canoeing trip and we all agreed it was one of the best country pub dinners we've all had in ages. The Brisket was the best I've ever had with an excellent rich sauce and the Pork was reportedly outstanding too and very innovative in it's presentation as it is served in a low bowl with the sauce forming a complete layer at the bottom. Other chefs take note! All in all it was absolutely delicious and we will be returning next time we are all in Goodrich. It's also well worth taking the absolute gem of a pre-dinner short walk up starting from The Hostelrie down turning right at Goodrich School then up along the very scenic footpath up through the churchyard to enjoy some lovely views of Coppett Hill and the Valley whilst building up your appetite. Congratulations to the Chef and Kitchen as well as the front of house for excellent service too. And lastly a big shout out to the local Butty Bach which is perfectly conditioned and we all thought better than many more famous big name ales. Highly recommended!

Me, my partner and our dog had a lovely one night stay here over the weekend. My partner likes to fish so we just needed a place to stay for the night. For £55 and £10 for the dog we wasn’t expecting much but we really enjoyed the stay. The room was so cosy, really tidy, big bathroom, very clean. People were very welcoming. I was sceptical about staying here due to reviews about noice as close to a busy road, uncomfortable beds, WiFi not very good etc. I can confirm the reviews about most of these are untrue in our case! The room was a lovely size for us as a young couple, the only thing was the shower wasn’t very powerful and would change temps while you are showering from hot to cold. We managed to get the TV on and working with Netflix, BBC iPlayer etc, only thing was the remote needed batteries changing I think as it wasn’t the greatest and took a while for the buttons to work, the WiFi wasn’t amazing however we could deal with it! We also met the cat that stays there and he/she was very sweet. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Stayed here on Saturday night, were greeted on arrival by a friendly lady who showed us to our room, which was very cosy. We had drinks and dinner in the bar and found all the staff helpful and friendly. Was a good stop over and enjoyed it very much.

Oh my goodness - where to begin? A lovely, friendly pub with quirky rooms for rent. Lots of locals who love a chat and staff who make you feel welcome. The food is to die for - menu is so removed from usual pub grub. A true gourmet experience and plenty of it. I wish I lived closer- it would be my go-to pub. Well done for doing your bit to keep our pubs alive. Am I gushing? Well; it deserves it.

We have stayed at Crosskeys camping twice now and cannot fault it . The pitches and facilities are excellent and the staff are all friendly and polite. The pub is great and compliments to the chef the food is superb. On our last night we had fish n' chips, peas and tartar sauce take away ( cosy in our motorhome ) and we were Cod Smacked !!. Thank you

Lovely little place to stay. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Room was quaint and quirky. Fantastic atmosphere in the pub/restaurant. And the food, ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! Best 3 course meal and breakfast we’ve had in a long time. 100% will be back again whenever we are next in that part of the country.

Lovely pub. Was diverted due to an accident on the A40, so I stopped for dinner. The food was stunning. Really lovely decor and the staff and locals were really friendly. Would recommend to anyone in the area. I had the brisket, which just melted in my mouth. So delicious.

Whilst mountain biking in the Wye Valley I spontaneously decided to stay the night. After scouting around for availability I am glad I discovered this establishment. Upon calling to discuss the price for the room, which was very reasonably priced, the customer service was exceptional. Once I arrived the hospitality was excellent, and the food was incredible. I will definitely be returning again

Came here whilst staying locally for the weekend - the food was really good, more elevated than pub food! We had lobster and a Thai butternut curry - all tasted very fresh. The service was really good and all were very friendly! Would recommend!

Popped to the cross keys for some grub after a long old trek around symonds yat and the food was gorgeous! Very good portions! I had the 14oz rump steak and my boyfriend had the dirty burger. Staff were very attentive and the chef was singing away! Coming from a pub/restaurant background it’s always nice to hear a happy chef!!

Made a stop while biking across the area 🏍️ Lovely settings in very traditional British style. The food is delicious, and staff always smiling what definitely add up to the atmosphere. I did enjoy listening to the chef and his singing ☺️ There is no car park though so you have to leave your car on the side of the street. Bikes can park close to the fence 👍🏍️☺️

Came in for an evening meal with the family. Absolutely fantastic meals could not fault them, the sirloin I had was cooked to perfection and the crispy duck starter was amazing. Lovely helpful staff. Dogs are welcome and they even bought out a drink for him. Next time we are in the area we will definitely be back. Many thanks 👍

I had a sirloin steak. And it was the best I have ever had. It was nice and tender. It was 2 inches thick and about 5 inches across . There was lots of veg. I was in a party of 10. The service was excellent. The staff were very helpful. And the beer was great to.

Had Lunch one day and an Evening meal 24JUN21 - really good choice of foods in the menus and meals were wholesome but not 'far too much' as most others are. We each (4 of us) had different options and throughly enjoyed them at very reasonable prices. The staff were excellent and very helpful throughout to the extent I will raise my glass to the Manager in good memory...😁

Stopped here for lunch and the food was perfect! We have travelled the UK for five months and I think this has to be our favourite. Perfectly cooked, and the staff are very welcoming! Worth a visit if you’re passing.

When there for a Saturday lunch time, and the staff where very friendly, helpful and chatty, and had the seabass for mains and ice cream for dessert, and food was absolutely delicious, and the food is freshly products by local farms and other businesses, and I love the look of the place too. So I will be definitely be coming back again

Went here for a Sunday dinner, food was excellent with good portion sizes, the chef was friendly and in very high spirits. Good range of beers and ales, fast and friendly service and lots of reserved tables so definitely book in advance for this popular location 👌

12 of us turned up un-annouced last Saturday at 14.30, after a wet morning spent canoeing down the River Wye. We had a fantastic pub lunch! Great menu, very fresh food, and fantastic service, can't wait to come back. Keep on the good work!!

Great room at a brilliant price. Super convenient for a wedding just down the road. Amazing staff who were very accommodating when we accidentally turned up a day early for our booking but sorted us the room without any issues. Thank you so much!

C
Charles Brooke-Taylor

Super friendly staff, very cosy interior and really impressive food quality. Their lamb was the best we've ever eaten, and the steaks were delicious too! The menu is a little limited, and the interior decor is a little questionable (thinking about the flashing ceiling fairy lights) but it doesn't detract from the flavours and textures of the food.

This is a very good pub and rooms. Great location in Goodrich and easy reach of the castle, the Wye Valley Walk, canoing opportunities etc... The food in the pub is good and reasonably priced. The rooms were clean and not too small, large bathroom. Small negatives were TV remote batteries were flat, closeness to the dual carriage way and the noise of the traffic. Love the two pub cats who were very charming. Would recommend if you are looking to stop over in this location.

E
Emily “EmilyD” Douce

We went for a meal after visiting Goodrich Castle. It was only a few minutes down the road so worked perfectly. The food was pub grub. The kids food was really good - huge portions. The fish fingers were proper fish fingers, more like breaded goujons and really big. The chips were nice, so was the pork belly starter. It was all quite good. We had 2 toddlers and they shared a meal. There were 2 high chairs and a relaxed atmosphere. There was an outdoor play area and lots of room outside and outside tables. The staff were very helpful.

Just stopped in here for a drink late on a Saturday as I was staying at a B&B nearby. The beer was good but it was fairly quiet when we arrived and the atmosphere was a little flat and the choice of music a bit off and slightly too loud. The food looks great and the owner of the B&B recommended it, so probably worth a visit still.

B
Brian Morgan

Located on the east side of the A40 this is a well presented pub that serves a decent pint of whatever is your choice. Looks to be a good place to eat but not tried on this visit. A big garden area at the rear which, unfortunately, suffers from a degree of traffic noise but pleasant none the less.

L
Lucian Quatermass

Went to a booked birthday party, we were seated in a conservatory which wasn't great in winter as the heat was inadequate and atmosphere was lacking. Service and food was mediocre.

K
Kevin tebb

Walked out of our way to try this for a meal, after reading good reviews on here. Upon arrival, the landlord told us that the sous chef had quit in the night and the head chef was on a day off. Although disappointed we stayed for a drink. The cask ale was very good. The single round of 1 cask beer, 3 lemonades and 2 packets of regular crisps was £17.45 The deserted back garden looked a bit unloved, but the kids were keen on the mini trampoline in the back garden. Maybe just visited on a bad day.

A
Alison Sumner

Came here for a birthday meal after reading all the good reviews. I can only say that the food for the high price was extremely below par and very disappointing to say the least. I have never had sticky toffee pudding with watercress on it, so that was a novelty !!! Left here feeling robbed unfortunately 😔

F
Francesca Goff

We were so looking forward to this, so I suppose maybe that's why the disappointment could feel worse than it should do?.. We rarely get away but booked 1 night here as a place to stay before a day experience at a local forge. I found the inn and chose it Purley for the food, I wanted a special meal for us as part of this getaway. 3.5hrs on the road to be greeted by "did you get a message we've no chef today so no food tonight " I was completely gutted, but we smiled and went up, I didn't expect big rooms, we're simple happy folk and easily pleased but the room was so tiny, the bathroom door hit the bed, it was so squeeky I'm surprised I didn't wake the whole village in the night. The pictures have certainly been well taken. We got back in the car and found somewhere to eat, returning at 8.55 to a locked pub in darkness that said it was open until 10..no drink and chance to ask about breakfast or anything for the following morning. Not welcoming or informative at all.we decided after a disappointing time so far to watch a film, after 2 hours of constant freezing and resetting we gave up. In the morning we got packed up, cam down at 8.15 (not exactly crack of dawn) again to an empty locked pub, no one could be found, we searched everywhere for someone. So we had to leave the front door unlocked and the keys on the bar. Disappointing alround for us, really did tarnish what was a rare chance for us... We're the sort of people who will chat to anyone but we really felt like you're not local so we're not interested. I read lots of good reviews before choosing this, it was far too expensive for room only stay but I'm lots of people have had a better time than we did. Certainly won't be back.

A
Alex N

Had a roast lunch and it was the first time in many years that had to send beef back because inedible. Service was good but at £17 expensive. Another in our party had a starter, similar cost but better quality

A

Emailed directly but no response, then booked by Booking. Com, then had response telling me no breakfast was available on the morning of leaving but there’s a cafe up the road. No wonder hospitality industry is in a bad why. Sorry Cross Keys Inn you let yourself down. A polite reply from owner but it was only made clear after booking a pity, as have cancelled.

A
Alexandru Lupu

Very expensive with poor service. We went to see a nearby castle and searched for a place where to eat. We asked if they serve food before 5PM and the answer was yes, Fridays they serve food all day. The lady took our drinks order and left the menus. Then we waited 15min for the drinks, she was talking outside with the chef and ignored us completely. We stayed another 5 min (20 in total) to debate if we should stay , because we were hungry, or to leave and find a different place. We left... bad experience, we don't recommend this place if you're not local.
