Delightful inn in historic building, 6 rooms upstairs with highly recommended restaurant on ground floor. Restaurant kitchen is closed on Wednesdays, but associated Roundwood Stores cafe is open all day, with a pizza night on Wed which was fantastic! Staff at stores and inn are very welcoming and friendly, even when busy and managing both a cafe counter and check in. We stayed on a particularly warm night, upstairs was cooled with windows open and emergency exit door down the hall open. Some have complained about the construction noise- we were not bothered, it was done by 5pm, though starts early along with trash truck at 7am. Most of Roundwood seems to be under construction at the moment. Update- after our lovely night, with another day of planned hiking, my husband was too sick to hike the next morning and they allowed us to stay until noon and helped us figure out transfer to the next town. Overall a lovely stay!
We ended up booking The Coach House spontaneously after a bit of a mishap caused us to miss our original flight for a post-wedding trip to our family in Canada. We wanted to ease that blow with a nice little getaway, and we definitely made the right choice. The cozy rooms are beautifully decorated, along with the rest of the building. Every staff member we encountered was lovely and welcoming. But the food really blew us away. The dinner we had in the pub was absolutely delicious. A meal here alone would be worth travelling out for from Dublin. We won’t soon forget those flavours! The breakfast at the bakery next door was also amazing, though beware, the portions might make it difficult to get out of your chair afterward. They don’t leave anyone going hungry, that’s for sure! We highly recommend the Coach House. You’ll love the incredible food and Irish hygge aesthetic design, all while surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscape in Ireland.
Met some American friends who were staying at the Inn for two days by the time I met them they were on first name basis with the staff they loved their rooms and tastefully designed . We had a few drinks in the pub area loved the decor eclectic atmosphere a combination of couches and chairs you felt like you were in someone’s home , staff were very friendly and attentive. We then moved to dining room and shared an assortment of pizzas which were Faboulas !!! The decor was beautiful every room was different. The courtyard outside the bakery was an oasis a great spot to meet friends and unwind. There was a back room with glass partitioned doors which would be great for functions again beautifully designed . Worth a visit!!!! 5 Stars .
New favourite spot for a casual afternoon lunch! Took our chances and walked in as a 4pax with a 3 month old in the middle of a busy Saturday lunch service. Flawless, friendly, very quick and efficient service! Not too adventurous, but a smart wine and beer selection. Pub food classics done right by a clearly passionate chef. Cod pan seared, schnitzel shallow fried, simply made and well balanced sauces using quality ingredients. This should really be the standard of food everywhere. Cozy vibe is second to none with plenty of warm and soft decor features. Quality of the coffee was the only let down; obvious loss of freshness of a burnt product. Worst espresso we have had in a very long time. Please get that sorted. Overall we were really delighted by the experience. We’ll certainly be back!
We stopped at The Coach House for food and it was absolutely gorgeous. The food was sublime and reasonably priced, 125 euro for 2 starters, 2 mains, a side and a dessert, including service charge. It was worth every cent, so good!!! The staff were lovely too.
We had dinner last night in the pub.The food was excellent with a good choice for all palates. The staff were warm, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and the feeling that they cared about your experience with them was very evident.Thankyou.We will be back.
Nice fire on a misabtile day scons with all the trimmings of jam and cream. Lovely and I was hard pushed to leave.
Had dinner this evening evening amazing food. company.staff . Comfortable restaurant and warm
We stopped in to the Coach House for dinner recently. The food was absolutely fabulous. We sat outside as weather was equally amazing. The flavours and presentation of our dishes ( starters, mains and deserts) left us wanting more. Their wine list is very well curated with suggestions that pair nicely with the various dishes. The service was impeccable and shout out to Siofra who took such good care of us. The Coach House is a five star experience without the exorbitant prices. Really lovely experience, we will return for sure.
Didn't stay there but had a wonderful lunch. Their food is excellent but a very popular restaurant - so booking very much advised. Great separate coffee bar as well.
Stayed two nights, ate at the pub one night and restaurant one night. Food was exceptional. Room was nice, cozy, well decorated, great shower.
I made a visit to The Coach House today with some friends after a hike. I am not local to the area, but this was my second visit & on both occasions not only was I impressed with the good food but also the excellent. service. As we each tottered up to the bar individually to place our orders, we were told to just make ourselves comfortable at a table & someone would come down & take our orders. Glasses & a couple of large bottles of water were placed on the table while we waited for our food to arrive. Thirsty after a day on the hills these were replenished as soon as they were empty. Our orders arrived - mine a delicious fruit crumble served in a warm bowl with the cream in a separate side dish. Some in the group had ordered crisps - their preferred flavour was not available so to compensate they were given a few extra packets free gratis. When it came to payment - doing so separately was easily accommodated by the staff. My previous visit last year was also as part of a larger group. Again the food & service was exemplary . Moreover the staff were accommodating in every way for the large group, which can be hard at the best of times & even more so during what was the busy Christmas period . My experience on both occasions was of good food, good service & all delivered by delightful staff, so a big thank you to them for this. However in my experience good service does not 'just happen' but is driven by a management who has an ethos to deliver the best and then the skillset to build & train a team around them who share that goal. Congrats & thanks to all the team @ The Coach House.
Great pub friendly atmosphere with great food. Well worth a visit but not cheap.
Called in for lunch and the staff were very welcoming and suggested we sit inside with our dog rather than outside. Food was excellent. My wife had roasted aubergine and I had Toulouse sausage with the most amazing onion gravy. Beautiful old building. Dog very happy he was given a dog biscuit and bowl of water without asking. Despite the pricing very good value for money. I don't give good reviews very often so this is a welcome change. Thanks Coach House.
Absolutely one of the best meals I've ever had. Gorgeous, cosy setting and spot-on service.
Lovely restaurant. Great decor. Excellent food
My partner and I had 3 courses plus snacks, wine and cocktails here for the first time yesterday evening. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted with smiles and warmth. All staff we encountered were so nice and efficient. We were never left waiting long and the food was always hot. The food was also absolutely delicious! Every single dish we ordered was just fantastic. It was a good bit out of our way to get here but will I be back? 100% I will! It was worth the drive and every penny. Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful night.
We had lunch with 7 adults and 3 kids in The Coach House. It is the nicest lunch I have had in a long time. The food was so delicious. We all struggled on what to order as everything sounded so good. Service was super and all the team were so friendly. We will definitely be back.
Stopped by for a quick bit. Place was chilly but not crowded. Food was good. Large portions. We weren't offered anything to drink - so, that was some lost revenue. Would go back again. Service was quick & friendly
The food is fab, both restaurant and bar are cosy and the food is interesting and absolutely delicious. It’s the perfect venue for a celebratory dinner or just a quick main and a glass of wine at the end of a busy week. Highly recommended! Worth a drive to for those not living locally. Or check out the lovely rooms for over night deal. Local patron.
Came for my son’s 7th birthday. Called ahead to ask if bringing our own cake was ok, and if we could bring our dog - not a problem at all! The staff were warm, friendly, and made us feel at home. The food was incredible. Even my 7 year old was impressed by what he called a “five star dinner!”
Dear Coachhaus Team, wow! We're on our Ireland tour and this is our last stop. The atmosphere, the friendliness... everything is perfect! But the breakfast beats everything we've experienced so far in this beautiful country. It's magnificent, a taste explosion, worth the trip for this breakfast alone. Greetings to your team—they're all giving it their all. PERFECT. See you soon. #germany Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
We eat at the coach house restaurant on regular basis, as we stop here after we do a hike in Glendelough. The service is great and their food is even better. They really know how to make a good cod! The kids options are great and very fresh with addition of fresh juice. It's nice to see a restaurant making the effort for the kids as well as adults. We had a dessert today as well, which was amazing. Thank you very much for always looking after us so well!
Great place to eat. Food is of excellent quality and portions are very generous . Very family friendly. Definitely be back
Great lunch menu, warm welcome and service, cosy fire. We will be back and recommend you visit too!
Myself and my wife had a most excellent meal here on Sunday night, the food was delicious and the staff were only superb. Couldn't recommend enough.
Walked in off the street not realising that you needed to book, but they were very, very accommodating. The two servers were very friendly girls and made us feel relaxed. I can recommend them highly. I’m from London and have to say that I have never been treated as well as this. To add icing on the cake, we asked the proprietor where we could buy some water and he said he could give us a bottle and asked us what we would like, a large bottle? Sparkling or still? Thank you very much Coach House. I will tell all friends and family to drop by if ever they are around your way. Kind regards, Angie & Mary x
Delicious food and very friendly staff and atmosphere. 5 star service
Not an hour off the plane from Dublin, arrived in Roundwood and hungry. Sometimes it can be nerve wracking visiting a new, rural place as a solo traveller as tables for one aren’t always treated kindly or encouraged, this wasn’t the case here! What an absolute treat this was. Everyone was so welcoming, the food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Even as a table for one they’d put me on a lovely spot to the side where I could people watch and eat in peace without feeling awkward on my own. Once I’d finished my food they offered me a comfy sofa by the warm fire to drink my wine and read my book. Big shout out to Helen for her kindness and welcoming energy.
An update. It was so good last time we came back and were not disappointed. Liam and his team of committed and caring staff were great. Atmosphere was great and the food was delicious. Highly recommend the duck croquettes, and the chicken schnitzel. The rigatoni is also delicious. Can’t fault the place. I’ll be back again! I was blind hungry when we rambled in here. Just walked Glendalough for 3 hours and we stumbled across this place. I was knee deep into a creamy pint and a burger before I even lifted my head to take in the surrounding. What a fantastic place, really nicely decorated, glowing fires in each room, and oh so very comfortable and inviting. We moved from the bar to a nice cozy spot by the fire. This is under new management and it’s just fab. The staff are as new as the management and they are so happy to be part of this new establishment and it shows. We will 100% be back here for dinner…or even just a drink. So so very nice.
What can I say about this gem? I feel I’ve fallen into a photo shoot of the world’s coziest and chicest inns. The food is spectacular, the terms remind you of your grandmothers sleeping porch, the bar draws you in for a long sit and a game of cards in the corner.
We loved everything about this place. Cosy snug room, exceptional service, friendly staff, fantastic wine list and the food was amazing.
This place is incredible. Amazing hidden gem in Wicklow which is about a 45 minute drive from Dublin. Beautiful walk around the local national parks. The hotel is stunning. Rooms are cosy and beautifully decorated and the pub is lovely. The pub restaurant is only open Wednesday to Sunday so check this before you come There's a nice classic pub across the road and the attached Roundwood stores has great food and produce, and you get free breakfast here if you stay at the hotel. Dream!
Lovely experience at this wonderful venue. Food was excellent and service was very good. Was super busy and everyone still holding up the high level of service. Menu was very good and so many choices. We will hopefully be back.
Popped in Sunday late afternoon for Dinner without reservation. A table was quickly allocated and we were seated. First we were blown away by the relaxed, very nice and friendly spacious interior. Staff were very friendly throughout. The food was fabulous and all were very happy how good it was. Overall a really nice experience and glad we came in here. We’ll be back when in the area.
This review relates to the restaurant, we did not stay in the hotel. The location is stunning, roundwood Wicklow, you can't go far wrong. Beautiful country. The service here was top notch from start to finish. The staff were warm and attentive, without being over bearing, which is always good. We were a party of 2 adults, 1 child and a baby, and they had something for everyone. The food is really, really good. I read through some of the other reviews, and noticed the price was mentioned a few times, but I felt the quality of the food justified the price considering the cost of everything these days. I had the Wagyu cheeseburger and it was cooked to perfection. It was tender and succulent, not dry or overcooked at all. My wife had the braised shoulder of lamb and she said it was probably the best meal she's had in a very long time. And that is high praise as my wife is a very picky eater. My son had the kids pasta and tomato sauce and he loved every bit of it, again, a very picky eater. All in all it was a really pleasant experience and we will definitely be returning.
We stayed two nights at The Coach House. The rooms are very cozy and beds are very comfortable. Our key cards did not work at night but the manager of the property handled the situation very well. I can totally recommend the place, easy parking and very friendly personal. They even ironed my shirt when I asked for an iron.
Surprised by the beautiful interior and amazing food. Staff excellent. I don't often give a five star for food, service and ambience but this place has it all while still being very relaxed and affordable
Excellent stay and dinner at the Coach House. Great service. The Chicken Schnitzel is the best I’ve tasted - stroke of genius to add the mushroom sauce.
The atmosphere in this Pub is one of a kind! Open Fireplaces and cozy couches really invite for a stay after a day of hiking in Wicklow. I really like the interior of the pub, everything seems to have been furnished with such a love for details. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food we had was great (Wagyu Cheeseburgers and grilled Pumpkin as a vegetarian dish). The food is quite pricey for a rural Pub (most main courses 20€+) but I feel like the quality made up for it. Looking forward to my next visit!
Visited for Sunday lunch yesterday. Charming place with great food. The Donegal Squid and Pork Belly salad were excellent starters, whilst the lamb shoulder was as good as I've ever had in Ireland, beautifully tender. And the tiramisu topped off a really enjoyable Sunday lunch. My Mam is coeliac and the staff were very helpful and the kitchen flexible in maximising the range of options from the menu which could be prepared gluten-free. The restaurant has a wonderful ambience, classically elegant but not at all stuffy. Staff were friendly and attentive. Some may consider it a little pricey but I've eaten in plenty of other places post-Covid at the same price point where the fare was average and/or service was poor, so for genuinely good food and service in the Ireland of 2025 I think people need to be expecting to pay around these prices. I live about an hour's drive away but hope to be back soon!
Myself, my husband and daughter went out for diner went electricity was off over the weekend at the Coach House. We didn't have a booking but we got sorted straight away with a table by a very nice man with dark shirt, our order was then taken quickly by a lady with a mobility boot, fair play to this lovely lady for keep working and serving customers in a super busy night. the food was amazing. 5 stars for the hospitality and the food. We will definitely be back.
Firstly, this is a review on the pub only. I recommend the owner split the accommodation and restaurant for accurate reviews. Food was really good. I thought my schnitzel was really flavourful and well presented. My wife enjoyed her cod. I will say, it's a tad expensive for what you get, and portion sizes might be slightly under what you get in other pubs. I've seen many reviews comment on good service, but I'd describe mine as adequate (i found myself having to flag staff down for everthing). Also need to mention that this establishment has a discretionary 12.5% added to all bills regardless of party size, since that's also fairly uncommon in Ireland. And another thing with soft drinks, i got a coke zero and it was 200ml (i feel like that's info you might need since prices don't vary much in restaurants but you might get any size drink
At lunch outside. Very decent spot. The menu does feel like they added a load of French words just to justify the very high prices. The cheeseburger was ok. Its "fancy word" was Wagu but it wasn't far off any other mid quality burger for me. The chips were perfect. Great Guinness. The outdoor area was very noisy with the extractor fan on since they were BBQing things that day. Ruined the outdoor chill vibe a touch. The service was top notch, they add a 12.5% service charge so we didn't have to tip but worth noting they add it to the bill.
While the price is very expensive already (we are fine with service charge as tip), the food is not much impressive. The sauce taste from beef we got which is too sweet and unnatural flavour. We would love to go back for drinks, not because of the food, but the atmosphere from the restaurant, it is cozy and very Irish vibe.
Food great. Solid fuel stoves create a great atmosphere. Stafrf could have been friendlier though.
Wonderful birthday celebration last night in the restaurant. Excellent service, delicious food, particularly starters and dessert. Lovely location, looking forward to repeat visits.
Stunning interior. The food that we received was delicious except the soup which tasted like plastic. The place just seems to have a very broken system. By the time, you’ve ordered, (very little choice available ) then located the water in a different room, then found cutlery, then located sugar and salt and pepper., you are exhausted ! Then you watch the staff roam the rooms continuously trying to match food to people, this breaks down any idea of a relaxing experience. The staff were wonderful maybe over stretched, but system needs tweaking. Very expensive for a very average experience.
The food and atmosphere are great. It's a great post-hike food option. One point of feedback though: the 12.5% default service charge should be removed. While I see replies saying it is “discretionary”, in practice most people either will not notice it or will feel awkward asking to have it taken off. If you want to reward staff, it should be transparent and optional by default. That aside, it is a very good restaurant and worth visiting, assuming they correct their default tipping practices.
The food is great but the portion sizes really need to be a bit bigger for what they charge. Additionally the 12.5% service charge on even an individuals make the prices go from high to crazy. At that point you're basically charging 8 euro for chips, which is untenable. I'm happy to tip but please let me decide the amount without the pressure, just leaves a bad taste in the mouth as only certain types of places seem to do this.
I have eaten here a few times since it’s opened. Had lunch’s and every time I ate I hoped it would be better! It wasn’t so won’t be back. Very small portion for the price. Just wanted a light lunch one day and had calamari which was rubbery. Second time salad which was tiny but tasty but for the price crazy! I had soup one day pumpkin which was sickly. Sorry guys your place is lovely but need more food on plate and price changes.
Unfortunately very disappointing. Roundwood Stores next door(same owners) has really good food, so we expected similar from the restaurant here. Unfortunately this is not the case. The food is passable for a low-tier restaurant, but for the standard The Coachouse is advertising the dishes are absolutely not up to par for the price and need some serious work to bring them up to standard. As it stands I would not return and unfortunately could not recommend a visit. Unrelated to the main review, but the atmosphere was very nice to start with until about five minutes after we sat down a group with over twenty children under the age of ten filed in and sat in the main area nearby. I don't mind children being children, but the noise levels from such a large group made it impossible to talk over dinner. We asked if they could close over the doors to our adjoining dining room, but were told no. It's great that the place is kid friendly, but it's not the atmosphere you want when you're spending high prices for a quiet evening out.
Went for a meal with my partner, could not fault the food only downside was the waitress who presented us with our bill. My partner chose to pay in cash, the sum of 133 euro, whilst counting his money out the waitress remarked " have you fallen on hard times having to count your money out??". Thought this was a bit rude of her as was not said in a joking way, more annoyed that he was using cash. Don't think it really an appropriate comment to make...ruined the evening as I was embarrassed and embarrassed for him. Pity
The reception at the B&B was very impersonal, and it was a real shame that there was no other room available except one facing the construction site. Furthermore, the kitchen extractor fan next to our window was left on all night. Opening the window was also impossible due to the smell of cooking food. It's a shame that such a beautiful and expensive B&B shows so little heart.
Nice decoration and mood, service okay but something must have been wrong with the food, no one finished the meal at our table and were ill the whole night.
Went there at 11.30 am and was shocked to get bill for Breakfast euro 25.88 .. complete rip off … Basic breakfast …19…small pot of tea 4..service charge 12.5% 2.88 .. total 25.88 .. people need to be warned about this rip off
