Good food. Small place cuz it’s gets very busy. Love matcha drinks and food was delicious. Worth the waiting time.

My sister recommended this cafe for getting some computer work done, with a delicious coffee and tasty bite. We sat outside on the tables and accessed the WiFi without a problem. Lots of folks were inside with their computers but still had quality connection. The dine-in coffee was delightful, served in large ceramic mugs and each given an artistic flair or embellishment in the form of a heart or palm frond design. Don’t be surprised if the line is out the door, upon hearing a local speak to another customer about it, that’s fairly normal. The line was long, but went relatively quickly. My guess is this business has a super solid local following of dedicated patrons who just love this coffee.

Found my favorite matcha in the area!!! Sooo good! Love the pastries but my favorite was their avocado toast 👍🏼 can’t wait to go back!!!

Great food. Great staff 👍🏾 Only few improvement made sure people are respecting the sunday rules of computers. Second many we wait long time to get our order and is no place to seat special on rainy days, i say this because been seeing some people walking and taking the available seats and they are just on the back of the line, if they don't have number they shouldn't be taking the available seats.

What a lovely place. I’m an old school keep Midtown janky person. It is really hard to get me there these days. I’m so delighted to have been invited to lunch at La Costa Cafe. The food was excellent , the staff was too kind, and James makes a great matcha. This place is a gem. It is a must try. ❤️ Support SMALL restaurant owners.

Tragically trendy and oh so fresh! I am addicted to the shrimp tostadas, but their chips and guacamole have some sort of addictive quality, as well. The nicest and most patient staff this side of the river. Am I allowed to go here every day? I want to.

This place is an absolute gem if you’re into fresh, made-from-scratch food with bold, delicious flavors. The menu is a mix of Mexican-inspired dishes with a gourmet twist, and every bite is next-level good. They’ve got everything from creamy avocado toast to zesty ceviche, hearty tamales, and chilaquiles that are just chef’s kiss. You can tell they put so much care into every dish—everything tastes super fresh and full of flavor. It’s the kind of spot where you’ll want to try a little bit of everything, and honestly, you can’t go wrong with any choice. The vibe is relaxed, the food is amazing, and it’s the perfect place to kick back and enjoy a really special brunch. Heads up: It can get busy, so showing up early is a good move. Trust me, it’s worth it!

Best matcha with Oat Milk! Quality matcha and perfect matcha to milk ratio. I also had the avocado toast and it was yummy! It has a kick to it so if you can’t handle spice, just be cautious. It was a tad spicy for me but the flavor is so good, I couldn’t stop eating it! I found out later that they can make it less spicy if needed. I loved the flavor so much, I don’t know if I’d alter it, but it’s an option for those who don’t like spice at all. Can’t wait to try other food options as the whole menu looks delicious! Lots of people getting corn bread, so will try it next time! Everyone was super friendly as well!

An absolute gem in Sacramento! Such great vibes and even better coffee and food options. Love that they have extra seating in the back with tables and booths to eat the delicious food and have some quality time with friends. Would recommend for a quick coffee with friends or a date with someone. They are located in a great spot to take a walk with your coffee or after enjoying your food.

10/10. The food and coffee was sooooo good. I got the ricotta toast and vanilla latte. The jam and bread of the toast tasted so fresh. Definitely come early if you want a good spot with a outlet.

This new coffee shop offers a delightful experience with exceptionally friendly staff who create a warm atmosphere. The mushroom toast served is going to be my new go to in midtown! Overall, it's a charming spot where great service meets delicious offerings.

The line is pretty long but moved fairly quickly. Very busy and pretty packed inside and out. Came primarily for the matcha and it was very good. Nice and creamy. Also ordered a iced latte which was nice and strong.

My daughter and I were so glad that we tried La Costa Cafe! We were in Sacramento for the day, and were looking for a nice place for lunch. It did not disappoint on service and food! We loved the mushroom toast, ahi tuna tostada, and pork tamale. The coffees were fabulous, and the service was cheery, helpful and genuine. We have already told our family that they should try it, and can’t wait to go back the next time we are in Sacramento.

Delicious tostadas and the owner who was working at the register was very friendly! Can’t wait to come back and try everything on the menu.. Aguachile was our favorite so far with just the right balance of lime & spice.

The service from the moment you walk in is super friendly, nothing feels rushed even though it is packed most of the time. Its packed for a good reason! We got an iced mocha and the iced horchata latte. The iced horchata was better than the mocha though. The moche needed a bit of that mocha chocolate taste rather than just milk. Then with food we got a pork tamale, and the guajolota. The flavors were amazing! We were surprised by how good everything turned out. Definitely tasted like an authentic tamale de Mexico! We loved everything about it. You can tell the owners have thought out every details and knew what they were doing with the flavor choices. Even the cooks look like they know what they're doing back there! Give this place a try, it's a great experience.

La Costa Cafe in Sacramento, Fresh, Flavorful, and Unforgettable! I've been to La Costa Cafe twice now, and both visits have been amazing. The Tuna Morena Tostada was a perfect mix of ahi tuna, avocado, and soy chili sauce, topped with crispy shallots and peanuts for a satisfying crunch. On my second visit, I tried the Aguachile Verde Ceviche, and it was so fresh and vibrant. The green chile, cucumber, and red onion weren’t blended, which I think is traditional, and it made every bite pop with flavor. The coffee is also delicious, I always get a cappuccino as a treat! I can’t wait to try more, this place is a must-visit!

-perfect new spot for a well crafted coffee! The food was AMAZING! A respectful twist on classic Mexican dishes! I tried everything on the menu👍🏽 Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable The place is very welcoming, all the windows, the natural lighting, the plants, the flowers for sale!🥰. I would recommend this place to everyone! ❤️ try the cornbread ❤️ #freshbaked

This place is so bright and buzzing! The young and diverse crowd just adds to the energetic vibe. The colors in the dishes coming out are absolutely stunning, I will definitely go back as I just went there for coffee (twice in one day). The chilaquiles looked bomb! Pumpkin latte which was made with their made in-house pumpkin mix. The pumpkin latte was just the perfect amount of sweet with yummy fall sauces. The folks working there were welcoming by engaging you while busy tending to customer needs.

I have come here twice, and I plan on coming back for those breakfast tacos, but each time has been incredible. Their matcha is great, the staff are amazing and efficient, the food is 10/10, and sometimes there is a friendly cat across the street you can observe if you dine outside/near a window.

M

Food came out fast and the presentation was perfect! We ordered the chilaquiles, avocado toast with chorizo, and 2 breakfast tacos. The chilaquiles definitely stood out in comparison to the rest of the food, but overall this place is definitely worth giving a try if you’re in the Sac area.

I was looking for a quick bite before running errands, and stumbled across this on social media. I can confidently say it exceeded my expectations!! We ordered the matcha w/ lavender, a hibiscus agua fresca, chilaquiles (one with chorizo, the other with chicharron), and a chocolate concha. Although the cafe seemed really busy, we easily found seating towards the back. The wait for food was short, and the service at the register was great!

I never write reviews, but if I could give La Costa Cafe more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. Food that is this fresh, with such depth of flavor, uniqueness, and attention to detail, deserves the highest level of praise. I am always on the hunt for a casual space that I can both work from and have a beautiful meal and coffee, and this just checks all of the boxes. They have made the space absolutely gorgeous, in a historic Sacramento home/neighborhood, and I couldn't be more impressed. Please never stop what you're doing, I am a big fan and will be back often. Run don't walk!!

Went to go check out this place and surprised to see a line out the door! We ordered a dirty chai and an horchata, but definitely want to be back for breakfast. The food looked and smelled amazing. The seating areas and little nooks were so cute, just make sure you get there early to snag a spot. Can’t wait to go back!

Excellent service, order your food at the counter and have a seat. The avocado toast chorizo was delicious. Matcha was piping hot (the did not have almond milk but do have oat milk) overall great experience here.

Delicious food and great atmosphere! Came here to do some work and it was packed! Despite that I was still able to find space to sit down and work, and to enjoy my food with no rush. Plenty of outlets in the work designated areas on the weekends. Definitely recommend! Adding the chorizo to the toast was 100% worth it and the concha was perfection, fluffy & perfectly sweet.

I live so close but have avoided stopping in due to the line. My boyfriend and I decided to see what the hype was about and I’m so glad we did! The line was worth the wait for us. We had the breakfast tacos, tamales (pork) and vanilla iced lattes or brown sugar lattes. All of it was fresh, delicious and flavorful. We are already talking about the next menu item we want to try next when we return. Recommend! :)

This place never disappoints! Amazing vibe, service, food, pastries, and coffee. My go to is hands down the Wild Mushroom Toast (topped with the chili oil)... Chef's Kiss! The Pan de Elote is moist and delicious. Easily the GOAT of Horchata Lattes is served here. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

For my vegan people, there’s not much options BUT I’ve customized their avocado toast to be more fun and obviously vegan friendly. I get the avocado toast no egg, and I either add tomatoes or get a side of pico de Gallo, and a side of their mushrooms no feta! It’s SO good and the mushrooms are seasoned perfectly. They also have chili oil that I drizzle on top. The coffee isn’t my favorite but I am picky so nothing against them just not my fav. I go back often for the toast tho :)

This bustling Mexican-inspired café in Midtown is the weekend vibe—think L.A. café energy with hella Sacramento charm. It’s cute, crowded, and just the right amount of chaotic. Don’t be scared by the line or the open seating—finding a spot is easier than it looks. The staff? Super friendly and ready to help, even when it’s poppin’. Now the food: Fresh, flavorful, and fun. The plates come solo (no sides), and while they may look small, they’re sneaky-filling. Most dishes bring some heat, and yes, I almost went for the Chilaquiles... but Breakfast Tacos are rare in Sac and theirs slap. I swapped the chorizo for guac—#noregrets. Drinks take a beat, but food comes to you. And with every dish I saw float by, I added another item to my “next time” list. I had the Matcha Latte and cucumber-lime Agua Fresca—lightly sweet, super refreshing, and perfect for this Sacramento heat. ☀️🥒 How I break down my ⭐️ reviews: 1 - Not if it was the last thing on DoorDash. 🗑️ 2 - Meh. Maybe if I’m close, and high. 😬 3 - Mid. Not texting the group chat about it. 🤷‍♀️ 4 - Hella solid. Planning my next visit. 😋 5 - Shut up! Take my money. Om Nom Nom. 🔥

Unassuming, warm, sharp, with no signage sits on a corner of a neighborhood adjacent to downtown Sacramento La Costa, a café with great and very idiosyncratic food options. Ceviches that will please all demographics and latitudes, tartines that are savory and sweet, salmon tartare, heirloom burrata and the wild mushrooms loaded with maitake, shitake and hen of the woods. If this did not interested you, the outstanding COMIDA section is for the ones who align with the “if you know, you know” mentality. Moletes and Guajolotas that you can load up with chicharrón or chorizo. Yes there's a line out the door, down the sidewalk, but this place is worth it. I particularly love the ceviche, a giant pile of fish and avocado with a surprisingly spicy kick and covered in crunchy sesame seeds, and the horchata, deeply spiced and full bodied. The design of the space is also great, full of rounded, warm wood features (like the curved edged counter seating) against white, airy walls and trim.

Loved the food. The Tamal and concha were amazing. I had a toast that was definitely far sweeter than I had expected. It was luxurious but sweet. I was expecting something a bit more savory but it was seriously good. The concha had sesame seeds and I can’t remember exactly what the flavor was but omg it was good. They also made a very good cappuccino. Look forward to my next visit.

Unfortunately, mid-ington city. I kept hearing the hype about La Costa, especially them having really good matcha so I went to check it out. 🍴Food : However I noticed that every time they called out the matcha it was a different variation of green… as a self proclaimed matcha connoisseur I was concerned and ofc the matcha they called out for me was the lightest shade I’ve seen all day wahh.. it was alright maybe a 3.5/5 but would have loved to try it at its full capacity. I also ordered the sweet potato and avocado tostada I believe and although very fresh tasting it was a bit bland and too oil heavy, a 3.2/5 🛜WiFi: my main issue, it says it was connected in my devices but I troubleshooted for about an hour to no avail…not sure what the issue was and I even asked the staff and they said it’s finicky sometimes. 🌱Atmosphere + Staff: actually really nice although kinda crowded so maybe a no if you get overstimulated easily. Staff was kind and helpful except I may be holding a small grudge over the barista girl who kept pouring different color variations of matcha lol

Chilaquiles was good but a few pieces of chips is not worth $14 half the plate was black beans. The soft boil egg is not good to have on there and no substitute for a sunny side up egg. Chai spice latte was horrible asked for espresso but did not taste like it at all.

The aesthetic is really cute, I love the decor! They played the same song repeatedly the entire time we were there.. didn’t love that. The menu is inspired by Mexican cuisine, but felt very much like an American restaurant. I think the food would benefit from more seasoning. Very high priced menu; each dish was $14-18. The cafe latte was disappointing. Very sour and very expensive ($7) We shared 3 small dishes and got 2 drinks and spent $80. It was great to try this place out but we probably won’t go again.

I have no idea why this place has so many good reviews. My mom and I asked the worker what was the most popular dish that they served, and we ordered that (I don’t remember the name of it but it’s the one in the picture). It was just a plate of soggy chips, watery beans, one egg, and queso. It was not worth driving 20 minutes in circles around the area just to find a parking spot. I also ordered the iced matcha and it was disappointing. It wasn’t mixed properly and it wasn’t anything special. My mom and I are very disappointed and will not be returning.

Strong contender for the title of most aggravating restaurant (they call themselves a coffee shop, but let’s be real here) in Sacramento. The food and coffee are both very good but the experience of actually sitting down and eating at La Costa is waaaaaay more frustrating than it needs to be. The open seating policy doesn’t work because people camp at tables for hours while others wait for a table to open up, but La Costa will happily take your money for a dine-in food order even if they don’t have any seating available. La Costa ought to acknowledge that they’re a brunch restaurant, not a coffee shop. As currently construed, there is always a long line and tons of people standing around hoping to grab a table while other patrons occupy tables with their laptops for 3 hours. I get that they want to have a chill no rules atmosphere but they’re a victim of their own success in that respect. They’re just far too busy for open seating. Several times I’ve received my food with nowhere to sit while a bunch of tables are taken up by people who finished their food several hours ago and are now just working on their laptops. Plus, even if you ordered a half hour ago, already have your food, and are still waiting for a table, if someone who is just rolling up happens to be closer to that table when it becomes available, they get that table. So, of course, what ends up happening is, if you are lucky enough to get a seat while it’s busy, you’re going to half a dozen patrons waiting for a seat watching you like hawks, standing too close to your table, etc. So, instead of actually dealing with the fact that they are a small restaurants with only so many tables and a high demand for their food, they have settled on a business model where they’ll happily take your money for food and beverages but you might have to stand up in the middle of the restaurant with no table to eat at. If they actually had a service staff trying to turn tables, this place would be five stars, but, even though I live around the block, this place is a hard never again, unless they wake up and change their model. As is, the experience of eating in is so annoying that it’s not worth trying.
