Tip: The place is kinda small so come here when it's not so busy if you plan on dining in. Also, their patio is really nice during the day and at night.

Fresh clean flavors and cozy atmosphere. The place is kinda small so come here when it's not so busy if you plan on dining in.
Where to start… They serve the community more than any other business. They continue to innovate and elevate every year and make the best Mexican food even better. The staff are sweet as can be. What else can I say except I hope eat through the whole menu! Update years later: I’ve been coming to Taco Jane’s in San Anselmo for over 20 years with my family, and it’s been a joy to watch the constant evolution of this beloved local spot. The owner, Matthew “Matteo” Boussina, is incredibly passionate about pushing the restaurant to new limits, often traveling to Mexico City for inspiration. His enthusiasm is infectious, and it’s evident in the menu’s evolution, which always brings something new and exciting to the table. The snapper burrito has been my go-to for years, but recently, I’ve switched to what I affectionately call the “Jose” - a snapper burrito without rice and beans, but with the addition of their amazing steak. It’s a delightful twist on a classic, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to quality and innovation. Taco Jane’s stands out not just for its delicious food but for its authentic Mexican cuisine made with love. It’s the cheapest taqueria in Marin, yet the quality never wavers. The atmosphere is always vibrant, with live music and a welcoming vibe that makes every visit feel like a little vacation. The “black gold” salsa, a charred, blackened tomato salsa with raw ingredients, is a must-try, and their curated collection of mezcal adds a unique touch to the dining experience. The restaurant’s dedication to its community and its roots is palpable. It’s not just a place to eat; it’s a place where memories are made, where the food is a celebration of culture, and where every dish tells a story. Here’s to many more years of enjoying the flavors of Taco Jane’s, where every day feels like a vacation
They have great fish tacos. Their patio is really nice during the day and at night.
Been eating here for decades. Love the owner and staff; many of which have worked here since the late 90's when Taco Jane's opened.
Probably some of the freshest and best mexican food I have ever had. No joke. Such a cool place. And seriously one if the best margaritas I have ever had. Spicey jalapeno infused margarita. So good.

Matt’s restaurant has been consistently excellent for the last 27 years! We’ve been away awhile and returned to his restaurant recently to amazing results. The guacamole and black salsa is wonderful. The jackfruit tacos were over the top! The Jane salad and lemonade were as expected: delicious. Love the new model of ordering upon arrival and seating oneself. Relaxed and casual. Service was SO fast!! Keep up the great work, Matt! Can’t wait to return!
Our favorite Mexican in marin! The red snapper burrito or fajitas are amazing. Add the frozen margaritas and you got a great night.
Amazing! Creative vegan options. Not just another rice and bean burrito. So good.
We ate here twice while we stayed in San Anselmo. I had the fish tacos both times because they were that good and my boyfriend had the chicken tacos and the beef burrito the second time. They both come with a really refreshing delicious salad topped with mandarin slices and jicama, and a side of rice and beans. It’s a really filling meal. You order and then seat yourself and the food is brought out promptly. The staff still checks on you while you eat. While you wait you’re brought chips and salsa. Both salsas were really good with a nice spin on the classics. As a person who grew up eating Mexican food in our household daily, I whole heartedly approve of the menu this restaurant has to offer. Everyone was very nice both times.
Came here on a whim, delicious fresh food. We had a veggie burrito and chopped salad. Burrito had solid amount and variety of veggies. I would add protein to the salad next time. Lemonade was fresh and sweet, horchata was yummy. Chips were included in the order.
I loved Taco Jane's! The menu is unique, and the flavors are surprising and extremely delicious! I had the vegetable tamale as a shared starter. It was so moist and the texture was so soft, and the flavor, slightly sweet with a mild tomatillo sauce. Served with a side salad and plantain slice. Really outstanding! Our table also ordered the nachos and the enchiladas on the special menu, chicken enchiladas with a creamy verde sauce, drunken pinto beans and rice! Friends, this is a great spot in the beautiful environment of San Anselmo! I will definitely go back to try the mole!

Very Marin with low-key vibe. Casual but good food , good ingredients. Affordable in a Marin way. Decent beer selection and good cocktails.
I was craving shrimp tacos today, so we came here for lunch, our first visit. The tacos were excellent and I appreciated that their side beans were black beans, instead of the refried pinto beans usually encountered. They served some (a bit mediocre) chips with two tasty salsas, one a spicy red salsa that was delicious, and a second with black beans and tomato that was tasty, but lacking the zing of the former. They served our dog a big bowl of water (outside dining, thank you). All in all, it was a very pleasant lunch. We will return.

Went here for a somewhat large family gathering. While not the best Mexican food I've ever had the quality was good. Every one in the group seemed to enjoy their meals and my steak burrito hit the spot. Margaritas were pretty good too. Staff were friendly and attentive. I would suggest you guys take orders at the table like a normal restaurant instead of making us go up to the front desk and order. I get that you are probably short staffed but getting our group of over 10 people to the front of the restaurant and ordered took way longer than was necessary, and we ended up making other customers wait while we got everything sorted. While I don't mind paying for my meal before I eat it, if you are paying with a credit card it means you have to tip before receiving service, which just seems backwards to me (a tip should be a thank you). Would go back again.
I would give Taco Jane's 5 stars except for this: we had a dozen people and they don't have a server who will come to take the order. As a result we ended up going in 3 groups to the register to order which meant the host had to go pay 3 different times because they have no way to keep a tab running. That said, the staff were all very welcoming, polite and efficient. The food was delicious, every order was correct and we had a great time.

I recently visited Taco Jane and tried the shrimp tacos, and they were really good. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, little bland imo, flavorful, and paired well with fresh toppings and a nicely balanced sauce. The tortillas were soft and warm, holding everything together without being soggy. Overall, a tasty and satisfying spot for flavorful tacos.
I'll start with the postives! Super cute stop on the way up to the beach. Not an outrageous price point. Beautiful plating. Everything comes with a small side salad. However...The flavors all around could have been much more intense/interesting. The plantains over beans were good but I would have preferred savory plantains rather than sweet. I would not order the chile rellenos again, it was too soupy (way too much salsa), barely filled with cheese and squash, and I couldn't even tell that it had been fried it was sadly pretty soggy. I reccomend adding rice to the filling to give it more structure and substance, as well as much less salsa over the top. My boyfriend got the red snapper tacos. He said the fish was great but again the flavors were just lacking.

I was excited to try this place but was overall disappointed for a few reasons. 1. This is a walk up to order and sit down place. But the prices reflect table side service. 2. The food was mid, essentially a personal twist on a classic dish. It unfortunately did not improve the dish, but quite the opposite. 3. This is petty but I asked for a side of sour cream mid meal and they charged me like 3 bucks. All in all not worth the price for the set up. Drinks were ok.

Taco Jane's is easily the most bland, generic Mexican food I've ever eaten. No flavor whatsoever! Ordered the Fajita Mixed plate with chicken and shrimp. Shrimp no flavor, chicken no flavor, onions/peppers no flavor. Black beans were served COLD, rice no flavor either. Servers were good, which is why I'm giving 2 stars. The food is beyond forgettable. Strongly do not recommend eating here

Despite a work colleague who lives nearby the restaurant steering me away from this place a couple of years ago, today figuring my colleague might have misjudged the restaurant or it might have improved, my daughter and I stopped in while the restaurant was hardly busy. First, we were barely acknowledged--not a friendly greeting whatsoever--and after seating ourselves (there was no obvious "order here" sign--other than one referring to "ToGo orders"--and waiting well over 5 minutes, we went up and ordered--which is a bit annoying for the higher price point and the fact that one is paying a tip upfront--when one hasnt yet had the food or service. Restaurants seem to be going in this direction so they don't have to employ as much staff to engage with the customer. We got a simple order of salsa, guac & chips, along with a salmon fish taco plate. Food service was fine and quick but the chips were stale; the salsas, Spanish rice were tasteless and the fish tacos were ok--definitely had better for under $20. With the exception of the guac, which was generous, reasonably priced (given the price of avocados these days) and delicious, everything seemed to be void of salt. At the table next to us I overheard a customer telling her friend that the rice had no flavor. Maybe this place has survived Covid and given the cocktail menu may thrive well based upon local drinkers but it seems to me it needs an ovehaull in both customer service and quality of food in order to have such inflated prices. Avoid it if you have had exposure to authentic or just plain good Mexican food as you will be disappointed here.
