September 2025 It has been a while, since covid-19, that I have visited this establishment. There is no reason for my absence. When my group of 4 arrived, we were quickly greeted and allowed to pick our table for seating. Our server, Mercedes, too real good carenofnus during our stay. We were given time to review the beverage menu, and Mercedes answered a handful of questions. We ordered various beers and/or margaritas (raspberry). We also ordered the Swedish meatballs to share amongst our group. We left before it got too late, and will be back. I hope that if you decide to visit this place that your experience is as good as mine or better.

This place is absolutely insane. Everything from the food to the vibe to the service to the drinks to the architecture of the building is just incredible. 5 out of 5 stars. 6 out of 5 stars if I could do it. Everything about this experience is perfect. I love whiskey cake but this is even better if you ask me.

Great selection of Beers!! Different style on the cocktails depending on what you're in to. Food was ok, the service was great, everyone there were really nice... tentative to what you wanted to eat and drink....open doors for you. Overall all nice experience, we will be back!

Love this place! The drinks are always on point — big shoutout to Jess and Nina for mixing up some seriously good cocktails. They know their stuff and are super chill. Also gotta mention Josh — funniest server I’ve had in a while and super quick with everything. The whole vibe at Hoppy Monk is just solid. Definitely one of my go-to spots in San Antonio. ***editing that while this is still one of my go to spots, it’s been literally so hot lately inside that’s it’s almost unbearable. I know it’s the weather, but there’s gotta be some relief 🥵🥵 - especially yesterday like it’s June, please turn on the a/c or get some fans 😭***

Loved this place! Everything was on point 👌 Food was delicious, service was wonderful and the ambiance was enjoyable. The Rueben was great, made with fresh ingredients and the Gochu Chickenwich amazing! Our waiter was Josh..he was super helpful and informative will definitely go back!

Absolutely Phenomenal! Worth a Flight! The Hoppy Monk is an absolute gem! Our bartender, Nina, was fantastic—super knowledgeable about their incredible beer selection, which features a long list of unique and carefully curated brews. She helped us navigate the options perfectly. For food, Nina recommended the Bacon Jam and Egg Burger, and WOW—this might just be the best burger I’ve ever had. It’s made with Akaushi TX beef, topped with a perfectly fried egg, rich bacon marmalade, aged cheddar, fresh wild arugula, and aioli. Every bite was mind-blowing. If you love burgers, this one is worth flying to San Antonio for! The service was top-notch, the beer selection is unreal, and the atmosphere is just perfect. Whether you’re a local or visiting, this place is a must. Can’t wait to come back!

This monastery is dedicated to the celebration of excellent beer and delicious food! I had a great time here. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to help with making a selection from their large selection on draft. They also serve cocktails and flights of whiskey, tequila, and beer. The atmosphere is fantastic and comfortable, I really like the beams in the ceiling. I chose to check this place out based almost entirely on the name. I wasn't disappointed at all! The quality of the food they serve is beyond my expectation. It is clear that the people responsible are really passionate and talented. The entire experience was enjoyable. If I lived around here, I would be a regular.

Love the beer menu. Loads of my favorite style, sour. Food was delicious. The purple chips are amazingly fresh too. Easy one of my favorite places to go at night. Patio dog friendly, if you have a well behaved one bring them here. Some waiters even had treats. Great atmosphere. 5 out of 5. Keep up the great work. Btw had the mussels and I hated them..still giving 5 stars for atmosphere, service and selection IMO

Decent, not a beer drinker but we due my group meeting there. Overall not bad. Parking looks like it can be tight on a busy night. Prices were to be expected. Service was good. Food quality was better than I expected.

This place has incredible vibes. The building itself is beautiful and unique. The beer selection is quite extensive and the waitstaff has always been pleasant. The menu is seems remarkable but certain dishes underperformed or seemed just overhyped on the menu and the food constitancy isnt always there. Had 2M BBQ. Meh! Hoppy Monk seems to be missing the mark. Missing drinks and plenty of apologies from staff. They don't seem to be short staffed, just unorganized. One thing for sure is that the restroom(men's) is not attended. For an older person it's important. They're trying real hard to be hip. You'll start to lose the younger patron when they realize there are better places.

Went on a Saturday around 12pm. They were only serving their brunch menu, which we were not aware of until we tried to order. Not a big deal, but would've been good to be informed earlier. We ordered fish and chips, a croque madame, and the lox Benedict. Each entrée was over $12, and did not have a side included (nor were there any sides listed on the menu available for a la carte ordering) The lox Benedict was very disappointing, really no thought put into the dish. Plain capers on top of bland hollandaise, disappointing, flavorless salmon, with a dry English muffin. The egg was poached perfectly, however. The croque madame was absolutely SLATHERED in mustard, overpowering the entire sandwich. The fish was great for the fish and chips, but the fries were really not worth it. Very little flavor and seasoning. Our server was very nice and accommodating, she was flexible with our party, and splitting the bills accurately. The atmosphere was great, a very nice place to enjoy. Overall, I really wasn't impressed with the food, especially for the price tag. I would like to visit again to give the place another try, and hopefully try food from the rest of the menu. Also, I saw a changing table in the women's restroom, but according to the male members in our party, they didn't see a changing table in the men's room.

I went to The Hoppy Monk for the first time on Saturday night, December 6 at 10:50pm after a long day of putting up Christmas decorations. The atmosphere was inviting, the restaurant was clean, and they had a DJ playing music in the corner as mostly 20 and 30-something folks ate and drank. Unfortunately, they did not hand me a physical menu until I asked for one after initially getting a card with some QR code to scan. I ordered a margarita and fish and chips with great hopes. Two out of three items were deplorable. It was singularly the worst margarita I have ever ordered in my life! I asked ahead of time if they could use lime instead of a sour mix. I'm not sure if it wasn't a sour mix. I tasted neither tequila nor the orange liquor. But it had a lot of ice. I should have sent it back but didn't want to take the time. The wild-caught cod, which was coated with a batter, was soggy and another big disappointment. The fries were awesome. Well seasoned, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. They might have a lot of unusual beers and ales, but my experience was dreadful. I will not be going back.

The ribeye was worse than an IHOP steak, no flavor in the mac and cheese with almost no crab meat, etc. But the fries are great and worth their price! I rarely complain about food or service, but it is a place to go to before or after dinner elsewhere. Service: She was super nice but I ended up paying for a $200 tab because she acted like she couldn't split the party of two couples into two separate tickets. But, she was attentive and still worked hard.
