Food was incredible and the presentation was immaculate. Our server was Bobby and he did a great job explaining the menu and helping us select our food as it was our first time to the restaurant. Will definitely be going back as the service and food were both 11/10.

This place was soooo good! I had dropped in from the gym so I felt very underdressed, however.. Victor made me feel so welcome. He knew the menu like the back of his hand and could tell you the different flavors each dish had.. which made it easier to pick what I wanted. One of the best servers I’ve had in a very long time. The sushi roll in the pic is “smoking bomb” it was really great! Unlike any sushi I had tasted before. The other plate was a new dish. I forgot the name, but it’s fried chicken in some sauce. Delicious as well!

I wanna start by saying this was the BEST tasting chirashi I’ve had so far in town! Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu when I stated it was my first time dining in. I ordered the bara chirashi .The sashimi tasted so fresh and the presentation speaks for itself! I would definitely recommend this spot for a downtown riverwalk date!

This whole place makes you feel cool for eating here. The chill dance/electronic playlist is still looping in my head. Victor was super friendly, got our orders in lightning quick, and even showed my fellow traveler how to cook his bucket list A5 Wagyu on the hot stone. I had a Tropic Thunder roll with an incredible sear on the tuna + salmon topping. I can't compare the quality of the fish here to anything else I've had. Having watched too much Hell's Kitchen lately, I also went for the Binchotan Chilean Sea Bass. The fish fully assumes the flavor profile of the sake soy beurre blanc in the pot that it's delivered in (still cooking and bubbling when it arrives at the table!), and it flakes apart perfectly once you start working it with your chopsticks. Really just indescribable flavors. It's really exciting to find a place that instantly climbs to the top of your power rankings for a cuisine. This is my new favorite sushi spot - my only regret is that once I go home it'll be over 1,000 miles away from me.

If you LOVE Sushi, you need to try Shiro! Delicious flavor experience: The green tea had such a warm taste that it didn't need to be sweetened; the appetizers were wonderful; rolls were out of this world; and the Teddy Bear Macarons for dessert? Tasty and Adorable! The one downside? It's really not pretty inside; but the flavors of the meal make up for it.

An absolute delight! We sat at the sushi bar and it was amazing to watch the good being prepared. The selection is wonderful and everything we ate was amazing. The food is so fresh and the restaurant was very clean. The vibes were immaculate.

Shiro is prob the best place in town for sushi. I say that because I've eaten at various sushi places in San Antonio and I've never had the satisfying pleasure of each piece I ate. Fish direct from Japan and to your plate. Each nigiri piece was an individual experience. Presentation of the plate set us up for a journey. The sashimi mix was fantastic with cuts of meat that are too good to share. Wonderful place and a must visit.

Whats up SAN ANTONIOO!! The San Antonio Guardian back with another review⚔️🛡️🔥 Check this out fellas this is a hidden jem to say the least, while eating here i noticed this place is not super expensive only if you make it out to be expensive. Anyways crazy story that happened there was a fire in the next building my waiter with a lions heart didn’t panick he full sprinted out of the building removed his shirt and ran inside of the building suddenly i saw people walking out of the building saying that a single man had saved everyone from a fire! He Took 5 minutes to stop the fire then he brought the food out unrelated to the fire my chair had snapped and i fell down it was no ones fault i have to lay off the ham and cheese sandwiches.

This place was great. You can park in the parking garage in the designated parking spaces. Make sure to take a photo of your license so you can enter it in the app. The waiter helped us because the app was a little glitchy. All the food we ate was super delicious. The vibe is great and we really enjoyed our date night. It's a small intimate place so, keep that in mind if you are going with a large party.

This place is amazing. My wife and I came to there soft opening and we were lost for words; from the presentation of the food to the food it self it was amazing. My wife and I live in medical and we will be making the driving to here when we want sushi or nigiri. We got Otero bluefin, salmon, yellow tail, Spanish mackerel, and red sea-mackerel. It is worth every penny ❤ ♥

Literally my favorite sushi place in all of San Antonio. Superb service by Victor every single time, incredibly clean atmosphere, and delicious Kama Toro sushi. What more could you ask for? Please try anything the chef recommends, he is always right. Wagyu on point, King Crab (I will never settle for snowcrab ever again!) and honestly everything on the menu is delicious!

Absolutely the best rolls in SATX. High end, quality fish and complex flavors. Excellent date night choice. Just try it!

The sushi here is amazing! I lived in Japan for 3 years and am married to a Japanese wife. We have extremely high standards for any sushi restaurant and usually prepare it ourselves. Shiro fish quality is by far the best in San Antonio. The Otoro was the perfect amount of fatty and filled with umami. The presentation of the the nigiri was beautiful. The fish quality is equivalent to a sushi restaurant in Japan. However, the amount of time to get any nigiri is incredibly slow. We started with 6 nigiri to test the quality of fish and rice and it took an hour to receive these 6 pieces after being seated. We ordered 6 more and an order of sashimi and it took over 30 minutes to receive these pieces! Additionally, one of the nigiri we ordered was forgotten! We did not have time to wait another 20 minutes for another round Also, the ambiance is terrible. It is too casual for the cost of the meal. My wife and I shared the above mentioned nigiri, each had a beer, and split a salad. Our bill was just under $200. I don't mind the eye watering prices for quality food. I do expect to be served in a timely manner in a more opulent setting if I am paying $100 a head. The quality of fish and nigiri earned 5 stars. The ambiance and slow service would have earned 2 stars. Side note...the kuromame black bean beer was a fantastic choice.

Matthew K. was our server, and he was absolutely amazing! My boyfriend and I recently visited this sushi restaurant, and we were a little nervous at first since we’re not used to eating sushi. However, we wanted to try something new, and we’re so glad we did! Matthew K was so sweet and incredibly knowledgeable about the sushi options and the different types of fish. We also wanted to order something to drink, and he took the time to recommend pairings would complement the fish perfectly. Honestly trust him because it really tasted amazing . He really made the whole experience so special for us. We don’t normally do reviews but this needed one. The chef was equally impressive—he took his time crafting each dish, making it not only insanely appetizing but also an experience on its own. The quality of the fish was incredible, and I’ve never tasted anything this good before. We ordered the Gyoza, the Playmate Roll, and our absolute favorite: the Tenen Buri (Wild Yellowtail). Everything was amazing! If you’re feeling nervous or unsure about how to branch out and try sushi, this is the perfect place to go. Not only will you get high-quality, amazing items, but there are also wonderful servers like Matthew who will guide you and make you feel comfortable. The care and attention they put into every detail truly made us feel like we were experiencing authentic sushi. We are now forever customers because the quality and experience are unmatched. 100% recommend!

This place is great in all aspects! Definitely among the best sushi places in San Antonio. The rolls are delicious, fresh, tasty, original. Staff is very friendly and attentive. My only complain is the prices, those rolls are not cheap but well worth it for a special occasion or a date.

Oishi! 🙌🏼🤤🔥 AKA delicious. We had the Seafood Gyoza. It was tasty. The stuffing was great. We also had the Mixed Tempura. It was so good. My favorite was the shrimp. The sauce that comes with it tastes good. We also had the Playmate Sushi. It was exquisite. An amazing combination of ingredients and a superb blend of flavors. I would highly recommend this restaurant. It tasted like authentic Japanese cuisine. We will definitely be returning.

Super chic, less than a minute walk to the river walk or lively bar hopping, and most importantly TASTY! I waited way too long to try Shiro, so don’t make the same mistake as me! If you’re a fan of raw seafood you’ll enjoy the experience as much as I did. You may come casual but the dining experience is anything but. Bring a date here for sure!

If you’re looking for the best sushi in town, look no further than Shiro Restaurant. Everything about this place is exceptional. The sushi is incredibly fresh—each bite is a testament to their quality and authenticity. We ordered 2 hand rolls, 3 specialty rolls, gyoza, and the toro crispy rice, and every single dish was a standout. The gyoza, in particular, was exceptionally good—perfectly crisp on the outside and bursting with flavor inside. The toro crispy rice deserves a special mention. It’s something I’ve been looking for ever since moving here from Colorado, and Shiro is the first restaurant to offer it. It was absolutely worth the wait—perfectly crispy and paired with the freshest toro. The service was just as impressive. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout the meal. Having a Japanese chef in the kitchen truly elevates the experience—you know you’re getting sushi made with expertise and tradition. This is a 5-star experience across the board, both for the food and the service. Shiro is hands down a must-visit for sushi lovers. Highly recommend!

Some of the best sashimi and sushi I've ever had! Get you some Snow Maiden Sake, order alllllll the things. Even the octopus was good, and I don't usually like octopus! The patio seating on the Riverwalk was a nice perk!

The food and experience that I experienced here last night was amazing. The food was delicious and felt as if I was enjoying a Japanese journey of flavor. I recommend this as a date night or just to enjoy the experience. Definitely a highly recommended visit when you're down here in San Antonio TX

Sunday lunch on the patio - everything was incredible. The Toro Carpaccio was a perfect way to start our meal, and all of the Sashimi and rolls we chose were delightful. Our server was great, super knowledgeable about everything on the menu and quite helpful when we needed elaboration on some things. The sake and beer list was top notch.

My wife and I spent a night in San Antonio celebrating our anniversary and came here for dinnee on the recommendation of a friend. Great little neighborhood tucked away between the Pearl district and River Walk and we walked on the River Walk to get here from our hotel. She started off with a miso fish broth that was the best miso soup we've ever had--really light on the fish flavor to the point it was there, but didn't overshadow the miso. The Arkami Carpaccio was next and was also one of the best things we've ever eaten. The waygu tartare was a little sweet (must have been some kind of light Japanese sauce stirred in to it before plating over sushi box rice, but anyone else would probably love it--I'm just not a sweets guy). my Snowcrab nigiri was also very good as well as my wife's sampling of various other fish. Ambiance and Atmosphere were both pleasant with anime playing on one TV and some pretty seating outside. Service was friendly and made us feel important somehow. It's a little pricey, but for an aniversary worth every penny. The matcha ipa was very good, too. 5 stars for sure!

EXPLOSION OF FLAVOR!!! This was the 2nd time I've been here & I was struck with just as much adoration for the food and atmosphere as the first time! This is the best sushi in Texas! Toro here is the BEST just as amazing as the best sushi restaurants in California & Virginia. The playmate roll is like a 4 course meal all in one in the BEST way, oddly enough it's so refreshing & gets better with EACH BITE. Do your spouse a favor and bring 'em on a date here! You probably won't be able to give them the same explosion of flavor after the date as they will get here but it's still worth it ;) 10/5

Go Here! If you are reading this, make some reservatioms at Shiro and go. It is such phenomenal food with amazing service; Victoria was stellar! The dishes are well prepared and the flavor is top notch. The specialties and fish of they day are where its at. The chef takes time to choose the fish and the specialties are what he does well. The kama toro tuna was buttery deliciousness. The waygu was an experience! Gold flakes and a crock with Japanese coals to sear your own to desired doneness. Truffle hamachi was so delicious and a must order. The crispy toro was beyond delicious and the ponzu jelly on top was mind boggling, I could eat this all day.

Phenomenal sushi. Shocked to find this in SATX. I’ve had sushi on 3 continents and this ranks up there. Order some nigiri off the menu for sure. Each piece is a delight! Mt Fuji salmon, otoro, and unagi were my favorites. Our hostess and waiter were awesome! I can’t remember her name, but the whole experience was great. Only restaurant I’m visiting twice in my two week stay. The price is what you expect for handcrafted nigiri. Don’t come unless you are spending money on tasty sushi. Second time round we took two others who missed the first time. All 4 of think it’s 5 stars!!!

Shiro makes the best sushi in all of San Antonio. Every roll is delicious. I personally love, “that’s how I roll”, which is pictured in the foreground. “Let me Take a Selfie”, is pictured in the background and is equally delicious. Make sure you make a reservation! There is limited seating inside.

I was upset to learn that sushi zushi was closed, and I had to find a new place for sashimi. Most of the other options that are open, should not bother mentioning sushi as being served there, much less sashimi. However, Shiro not only satisfied my need for sashimi, it was hands down the best, freshest sashimi I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The chef's choices were amazing and far better than any I would have known to select. I cannot stress just how fresh the fish was.. zero soy sauce on Spanish mackerel, and still no fishy taste that most places mask with sauce and vinegar. Not at Shiro!! My wife is one of the pickiest "I can't stand fishy" people, and she ate 7 pieces of MY sashimi! Janice was an amazingly helpful and accommodating hostess, that got us in quickly, even though we didn't have reservations! Drew was probably the most professional and well trained waiter that we have ever had the pleasure of enjoying our dinner with! Yes, it was pricey, BUT I am MORE than happy to pay what I did, because it was TRULY WORTH it! I will be back and I will be hungry!!! Thank you so much for an amazing experience!

Without a doubt the best sushi place I have been to in San Antonio. Ambiance and service was great. Our server Bobby ran through the entire menu, gave good recommendations, and told us what fish were the freshest. Definitely worth every penny spent. Reasonable prices considering the quality of the fish. The quality is hard to beat and they are not stingy with portions or fish. Almost every fish melted in my mouth. Hats off to the chefs!!! Can not wait to visit again! The A5 japanese wagyu we had was phenomenal!

This place was really good! Enjoyed everything on the menu and the atmosphere. Only thing that I didn’t really care for was the A5 wagyu hot rock. It smoked way too much and the slices were way to thin. Other then that great place and will be coming back!

Modern sparsely decorated sushi joint right on the river walk. Exposed concrete and neon lights set the vibe. Daily fish offerings are exceptional; plenty of fish from Japan, Korea, new Zealand, Canada. The sea bass tataki appetizer is delicious. Parking in an adjacent covered lot. Get the code from the host(ess). Outdoor seating too.

Without a doubt the only sushi in town that comes close to sushi in Japan. Flawless and beautifully presented, perfectly dressed with no need to adjust. Melt in your mouth wonderful, and exactly the right rice temperature - everywhere else serves the rice cold.

Came here for a birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. Hard to find high quality fish and creative dishes that take you on a journey in SA. Highly recommend trying many different options but be ready to bring your wallet too!

I finally came here! I was so excited and not at all disappointed:) Lau(Ren) was our server and helped us decide what to try when it came to an unfiltered sake. We also ordered the Charcoal Grilled Chasu, a couple rolls which were the Show Me Your Moves, and another one which I can’t remember what the name was, but it was great! Very nice atmosphere, it gave off an upscale and relaxed vibe. I will be back!

This place lives up to the comments. Immaculate service and attention to detail with food was phenomenal. The blue fin tuna nigiri is an absolute star. This is the best sushi I’ve ever had in San Antonio. Sitting at the sushi bar and watching the chefs create the perfect piece was an absolute experience. I will definitely be back.

This was exquisite... absolutely the best sushi I have had. Nobody puts quality into their work like Shiro, I was very impressed! Mathew K was our server and he sets the bar for customer service. All in all this was a gem of a fi d and we will be returning very soon!

found this gem very last minute on yelp on saturday evening and was so grateful we were able to get a seat as a walk in. highly recommend making a reservation beforehand!!!*** the ambiance is so nice, there is a projector in the main room that plays aesthetic anime scenes and a pink lights that really set the mood. absolutely loved the interior design of the restaurant as well. GET THE TRUFFLE HAMACHI!!! this was my first time eating truffle together with sushi like this but it was so good and the hamachi was so fresh. please get this. the chirashi bowl was DELICIOUS. it was $52ish but it was so worth it? there’s uni, toro and a mixture of different fishes. it was fresh AND the price is so good for what you get??? if you wanted a sampler of sashimi with a bit of rice, go for this. this was my favorite! i am so happy i was able to dine here bc this restaurant has so much potential, especially with the quality of fish and ambiance!

We were seated extremely fast even though it seemed sort of packed when we arrived 10/10; on top of that, our waiters were spectacular (another 10/10). The food though, man was it GOOOD (14/10)!!! Loving the outdoor seating and views. An active location but not too overwhelming at all

Was very excited to try this place for happy hour. Sushi was very good. A bit more elaborate than what I normally get but we wanted to check out their happy hour offerings. They have a regular menu too which looked to be very good. If you get nothing else here you should definitely try their fried squid. It was such a delightful appetizer. Paired great with a light beer. Crab croquettes were not my favorite but I can see other people really liking it. Great location with a patio right next to the riverwalk. Excited to come back and try more of their sushi.

First-Make a reservation. Second-They have ASAHI "Super Dry" Japanese Beer ON TAP! YES! Third-Be prepared for some of the best Sushi I have had in years in San Antonio!!! We sat outside on the patio and fortunately it was a breezy night on the San Antonio River, which I might add made the evening. The staff at Shiro is on their game by continually ensuring our water was filled and checking on our every need. One of the ladies who checked on us happened to be the Manager by the name of Ella. Yes, THE manager was out checking on everyone too and was extremely kind and gracious...thank you!!! So, by a customer service stand point this place this tops and we hadn't even had our first dish. Now to the food...we started with Truffle Crab Croquettes and Seafood gyoza's that I have not seen since Japan which melted in our mouth. Of course after that I had to try the Tempura which was amazing! Then we ordered the Seared Wagyu beef tartar and "let me take a selfie" sushi dish to accompany it. ALL the dishes were expertly made, presented and explained by our waiter with a professionalism of the highest degree. Dining at SHIRO was a fantastic experience, with fantastic food and incredible staff. I can't wait to go back to try the other dishes AND the IMPORTED Tuna from Japan! A gem of a sushi bistro literally the most authentic sushi I have had in years. Arigato Gozaimusu!!!

Absolutely amazing!!! I’ve been to this place many times. But I don’t want to share it cuz I’m afraid it’ll get too crowded. Please forgive my selfishness 🥺. If you can ear raw fish, I definitely recommend trying their sashimi mix. Every pieces of fish melts in my mouth. Can’t really describe cuz it’s super fresh, like they’re still alive 🐟. To be able to get this level of freshness in San Antonio is a dream to me. I’ve been to many sushi places but Shiro is just next level. Their wasabi is the authentic one, grinned from the wasabi root. Be aware of their strong taste. Do ask them to recommend their special seafood of the day, they’ll take note of them in a paper. Do try the special ones if you can. I also try other cooked dishes in their menu but nothing can beat the explosive flavor of their sashimis. I’m about to leave San Antonio, and Shiro is the only one thing I’ll miss 😭.

Yet another update (I'm the worst ha ha): I came back here after staying away for a while and I have to say, my mind was absolutely blown by the most beautiful chirashi I've ever seen in my life. It was exquisite and delicious. My previous bad experience must have been because of my poor skills at ordering off the menu. Super happy to have my favorite sushi experience back :) Update: I had to update my review to reflect the poor customer service experience from my last visit. I went to enjoy wine during happy hour and no white wine was available and no substitute was provided other than regular prices at more than double. I came for happy hour and have been a regular at this place including bringing many other people here. And they can't give me a glass of white wine on the patio when it's hot for the advertised happy hour price? It's not like I spend min 100$ each time I come here, oh wait I do and I can't get white wine at a reasonable price. Cool dude- that's the definition of great customer service (not!) Plus, it shouldn't take 30 minutes to prepare one piece of nigiri. But it does here- for one roll and 4 pieces of nigiri, it took 3 hours. And the shasimi is not really accessible for single dinners which sucks if you have no one to split your food with and don't want rice but still wanna explore what's good for the day, but no bc the price dictates you can only really sample one or two vs what you could with nigiri. If you order something here, you have to commit, you can't sample like you can at other sushi restaurants. Chef does a good job with some things but he's taken it too far by micromanaging his staff resulting in a poor experience for customers. Plus the prices are not San Antonio prices- they are expensive when compared to similar places in California. Disappointing. I guess I'll be going back to 19 hyaku where there is zero risk of poor customer service. Old review: I absolutely love this place! The sushi is incredible! I also love that you can go fancy with some rare options to discover or you can keep it affordable and take advantage of the happy hour on Wed, Thursday and Sunday. I also love to make it a combo and enjoy the museum across the street after. Waiters are great and very well trained. I've been impressed with their knowledge of sushi- I've learned a lot from them. My only advice would be to arrive a little bit after they open. The first hour tends to be a bit slow on the service front as they start warming up. That's the only reason for 4 not 5 stars. I'm impatient and don't like waiting super long. And as an FYI, there's designated shiro parking in the building they are at. Useful when you're downtown!

Finally got to enjoy Shiro in person rather than take out. Definitely one of the better Sushi restaurants in San Antonio. The atmosphere is awesome and the service was great. We had the Lone Star Cowboy Roll, the Smoking Bomb and a California roll. The quality was impeccable and the presentation was beautiful. My only criticism was the Sunomono salad, which was good but had too much lemon which overpowered the seaweed flavors.

Amazing quality of food and great service! Everything sounded delicious on the menu and was difficult to choose what to order, which is a good problem. My wife and I will for sure make multiple visits in the future to try more off the menu. Highly recommend you give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!

HOOO COWWW I COULD EAT THIS EVERYDAY! The food was amaaaaizing. Every combination of flavor was excellent together. I could have ordered our whole dinner twice all over again but we went too close to closing time. Will definitely be back ASAP. Fish is probably one of the best in all San Antonio. Service was good, just the entrance was a bit awkward because they don’t have (or at least we didn’t see) a host stand inside, so you just kind of stand in between tables for a sever to come to you and assign you a table. Nothing you can’t handle, just saying it was a bit awkward. Didn’t change my perspective though, would go back a million times. Pricing was very good and reasonable to quality of food and presentation. 10/10 recommend!

Ok, I have been to many sushi restaurants in San Antonio and this is now the new favorite! Great atmosphere with perfect service. Now the food what phenomenal and beats anywhere else in town. The tropic thunder roll is probably the best cut roll I have ever had. Thank you Victor for great service and all of the chefs for a great experience.

What a reprieve from all the sub-par, frozen fried food in downtown riverwalk. By far the best meal we had while in San Antonio. This place is definitely worth the 25 minute walk. We will be back for some nigiri.

Lived here for a few years and was always disappointed in the asian food in san antonio until we found this place. It took us right back to Japan. The food was by far the beast food I have ever had and the service was amazing fast efficient but the staff took the time to care. The sensei is a master of their craft and I can not give the team more credit for their amazing dedication to the craft. We will now be regulars.

INCREDIBLE experience!!! From when I called to see the wait time, to when we were leaving. Just in awe! When we called the hostess she was very warm and friendly and accommodated us. We sat right in front of the chefs making the nigiri and it was so fun. Drew was our waiter and he made our experience awesome. He was very knowledgeable and gave his recommendations and they were 100! The sushi is the most fresh and best tasting sushi we have ever had. The atmosphere is chill and calm. Very clean. Modern and sophisticated. My husband is gluten free and Drew went out of his way to accommodate and present options that were safe for him. Hands down recommend 1000%! We will definitely be back! I’m sorry my photos aren’t the best. We were so anxious to eat.

My favorite sushi restaurant in San Antonio, always an incredible experience, has not been disappointing event yet and I’ve been here several times. Right on the river located in a fun area of downtown, minutes from The Pearl and other amazing parts of our beautiful city. This is the perfect spot for a date or special occasion, ask for Jameson or Evan, both of these serves are very good. Attention to detail, masterful flavors, creative designs and menu, great prices…simply can’t say enough about Shiro, come check it out!

In San Antonio, there are only three high-end sushi restaurants and this is one of them. Tucked away in the Jones and Rio apartment building, this restaurant provides an exquisite culinary experience. The dining room is quite small so I would encourage that you make a reservation. The sushi is absolutely divine. See photos for evidence. The fish is very high-quality service is lovely and they have a wide variety of cocktails to offer as well. It is a bit pricey so I would save this for special occasions like birthdays, or special date nights.

Atmosphere is chill, not too big or too small of a place but cozy. Sushi is top notch! Presentation of every dish is beautiful and flavor is superb. The only suggestion is the short ribs could be a bit less salty. If you’re looking for top quality sushi near downtown SA, this is the place.

Today’s service was phenomenal. Jameson welcomed us with kindness right from the start—greeting us on the phone and guiding us through the parking validation process, which set a great tone for the evening. Once we arrived, we dove into a few happy hour items, and let me just say—the Soul Sisters roll were YUM! Definitely the highlight of the evening. We also tried the crispy tuna roll from the happy hour menu, and it did not disappoint. We couldn’t resist ordering a couple more items from the regular menu—the Truffle Hibachi and the Playmate Roll. Pro tip: that hibachi sauce is to die for. Keep it on the side and dip each roll, trust me. Thank you again for making my sisters birthday feel so special, especially after an unexpected moment in her life. This dinner was exactly what we needed, delicious, comforting, and memorable. We’ll definitely be back on Tuesday for your amazing specials… and maybe even Sunday! Huge thanks to Jameson again. I am convinced that this is the best tasting food you can get in this area. The wagyu teriyaki is such a great deal, omg! So tender, and cooked with this delicious gravy with mushrooms. Each bite makes me throw my head back, I swear. I devoured every bite of the salad and tangy dressing in-between bites of beef. They serve the perfect sake to enjoy these meals, so please indulge. My fiancé and I came here to celebrate our engagement anniversary and this place was amazing! Everything about it was just spectacular. Our waiter was so kind and friendly. Food was delightful. We ordered the hot line crispy gyoza and the shio edamame as appetizers to share. As an entree we got the teriyaki wagyu and shared that as well. It was plenty of food for the two of us we got to try a little bit of everything!

The food was definitely different but amazing compared to everything I’ve ever had in the past. The restaurant had a welcoming interior and all of the staff were extremely nice. I had gone when it was cold, and the hostess even gave my girlfriend a blanket! The only reason for the 4 star instead of 5 was the ceviche. Normally, i’m a huge ceviche fan, but the mix of sweet and limey did not pair well together. Other than that it was beyond expectations , but be prepared to spend quite a bit. Servings are small, but delicious. Will definitely recommend for anyone trying to try something new.

I want to love this place but I have to stop at 4-stars. This is mainly based on price and not matching what you get. Don't get me wrong, I will pay top dollar for top food but this sushi, while good, isn't worth $8/piece of nigiri. Now to the food, the garlic edamame was amazing, the Toro Tartar was meh, the parmesan cheese was weird. We got the Smoking Bomb and Raging Bull rolls. The raging bull was spot on, the smoking bomb was okay, not amazing. I had tuna, escolar, and salmon nigiri. I'd probably come back, the sushi was good, close to great for the most part.

Let’s get the so so so part out of the way : avoid the tamago. Tasted like it was cooked, frozen and defrosted before serving. Had a bit of a mixup : I wanted nigiri but was served sashimi (way pricier). Onto the good! Very nice minimalist inside with a great patio outside. The plates are beautifully decorated and I would not be surprised if there is some kaiseki training in the mix. The crab croquettes were a bit too dark and too gooey inside with the barest hint of crab, the toshiro roll was really well constructed with the spicy tuna inside combining well with the torched ono on top. The sashimi was all presented beautifully and the monkfish pate while not as nicely textured at other places was tasty. The unagi was a very nice surprise : most places tend to make this sauce too sweet, and this one was a lighter more savory sauce that I felt personally was better with the eel. Excellent service rounded out the experience. Other reviews point to the rolls being the star…and I think we will try a few more of those the next time.

I recommend the sashimi or nigiri and if you want variety do the chefs choice. I tried an appetizer (gyoza), roll, and dessert and would not get any of those again but would go back and get the nigiri. The gyoza were fresh but lacking flavor, the roll - I cannot recall the name but it had salmon, tempura shrimp and I think spicy tuna - was good but nothing compared to the sashimi or nigri, and the dessert was a pear sorbet and that was simply not good - lacked flavor. The sashimi is fresh and so buttery (I got salmon) and the nigiri was my favorite they warm the rice and add a light coat of soy with wasabi. The service was great and location was good I simply think while most of the food was really delicious there are places out there with similar price points and better overall experience.

The Last Real Foodie

I've heard promising reviews for this California based sushi joint, so I had to give them a go. Located downtown, they do have a parking garage for free 4 hour guest parking. The restaurant had a chill vibe and was not overly loud. Once we ordered our food, it took a lengthy 30 min or so to receive our appetizer. This was quite a let down as there were not many patrons inside the restaurant at the time. There also seemed to be a reasonable amount of staff on the payroll. The app that we chose was the hot line crispy gyoza. There were a lot of flavors here to unpack. From the garnished parmesan, the 911 sauce that the gyoza were tossed in along with an additional green sauce. The gyoza were nice and crispy as promised and the 911 sauce complimented them with a bit of tang and sweet. The parmesan was an interesting choice that some may be a bit taken back by, I didn't mind it though. The nigiri were pretty good, though personally, the wasabi was a bit overpowering. The lobster robbery roll and the kimchi roll were both solid, though the lobster robbery were our preferred. Prices here are a bit inflated, but when has good quality sushi ever been cheap? Service was decent and overall vibe passed the vibe check. Nothing extraordinary, but a reccomend in the end. 4.3/5

Hi, We wanted sushi on a Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation. We were told there was a 45 minute wait but the restaurant was only 50% occupied. There were 4 empty tables and no one at the sushi bar seating. We would have taken either seating arrangement, but was told it wasn't available. We walked by the place 20 minutes later and still observed the same empty tables. We decided not to patronize that establishment. An old saying, a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

This is long… food rating at the bottom. The Service: I had my birthday dinner there. I had told my fiancé for months that I wanted to come to Shiro. I had very high expectations for Shiro. I have been to Nobu, Uchi, Uchiko, Musashino and Neighborhood sushi. So, I was ready to be blown away by the service and the food. The service left me feeling like I did not deserve to be there. Our waiter did not introduce himself to us. He did not ask us if it was our first time. When I interacted with him, he was brief with his responses. He spoke quickly and in a low volume and appeared to be in a hurry. I thought to myself “he must very busy or tired or he is having an off day”. I asked about different rolls and he did describe them to me, however, he did not ask questions to guide me as to what I would probably like. All interactions were brief. After about 10-15 minutes the table behind us was seated and they were three white people. He was their server as well. When he interacted with them, he was polite to them, he engaged in conversation with them, he asked them what brought them to Shiro, how did they hear about Shiro. He asked them questions in order to guide them with their selections, and he voiced that. I tried again to engage with him at I got the same brief responses. I asked for a roll that was refreshing he responded “what do you mean?” I had to further explain. He then made a suggestion. Service wise, I would have appreciated the same type of energy he gave the other table. We’re paying customers as well and want to have a great experience at one of the city’s best sushi spots. We tipped accordingly. The Food: -Garlic edamame -lacked brightness, it was very one note and heavy for being edamame. -Hotline crispy gyoza-strong pork flavor, I was not expecting that. -Pepper fin-loved the presentation and the fish was light and delicious -Chilean sea bass-soft, flaky, great broth -Show me your moves roll- I liked this roll, it was very flavorful and it came with a ponzu sauce… so good. -Tropic thunder (recommended roll) -it was room temp and that may have been why it was not refreshing. The cilantro gave it some brightness. -I also order two pieces of nigiri and they too were at room temperature. We did not have dessert, the waiter did not offer it, knowing it was my birthday. I was already full and ready to move on with my evening.

Updated 27 May 2022: their sushi quality has plummeted since I first visited. I don’t know what happened but if they want to charge top price for their sushi, they better reevaluate how they made sushi. Rice was sparse and the way they rolled the rolls were loose so they kept falling apart. I don't see myself going back there anytime soon. Old review: One of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. Salmon nigiri melted in my mouth. Thank you Frankie for good service!

This was a nice little hidden sushi place we wanted to try. Right across from Elsewhere Bar. First and foremost I love that they have free parking in a garage next door. They validate it for you once you go inside for a few hours. It's best that you make a reservation cause they do have limited seating. But luckily for us going on a off day allowed us to be seated. We had hot line crispy gyoza for an appetizer which was amazing! The best I've ever had. The sushi was OK. Can't remember the roll names. I guess none of them stood out. The service was attentive and gave multiple suggestions for dinner. We definitely will go back but probably just for appetizers and drinks. Cause the sushi rolls were really pricey.

Should call this place shito instead of shiro. Rice has barely any seasoning to it. Random jalapeños on sushi? The best part about this meal was the fact that they gave me a deli container to take home for my green tea. Which by the way tasted like the water from a puddle was used. The waitress was amazing though and she’s Only reason this place is getting 2 stars. If you know good sushi and like quality sushi this place isn’t it. It’s over priced Costco sushi with atmosphere. Dishonor on the chefs.

It was just a regular Wednesday evening and we were interested in trying a new sushi place. Place was about 1/3 full. The person greeting us was not friendly when asking us if we had reservations and ended up seating us at the window bar in the far corner by the restroom door. The waiter was pleasant, a bit rigid in the beginning. My partner has an aversion to avacado and they would not allow any substitutions or alterations to the menu, so he had to settle on something that he didn't like. Food was overall good. They have issues with flies all over the place. Honestly we won't be back.

UNDERWHELMING. This is a very clean establishment. The service staff seemed unorganized at our arrival, even with a reservation. We ordered the California roll, chicken bento, gyoza, A5 wagyu tataki, and the scallop mania roll. The most disappointing was the chicken bento. The chicken was burnt on the bottom. The rice that came with it was dry and fell apart. Noodles were bland with no sauce. Fried eggplant was swimming in soy sauce. Salad dressing was mostly rice vinegar. A5 wagyu was delicious but only seared and served with a sauce; minimal effort to prepare. Scallop mania roll was saturated with sauce and masked the natural great flavors of the roll. California roll was delicious, however, such a simple roll to make. The waiter was unfamiliar with masago, so that was disappointing for a sushi restaurant when it is served on the menu.

Incredibly expensive for what it is.... A sushi joint with an uninspired, bland decore, mediocre service and food that is it, at best, meh. If you're into expensive sushi rolls with far too many ingredients... And gyoza that have-- wait for it -- parmasan cheese on them!-- then this is the place for you.

The welcomed attitude of the hostess was the worst, then they seated us at the window bar area that is infested of flies and dirty. I asked my roll without avocado and they cannot prepare it “we cannot do changes” it’s an ingredient less not a substitution. Whatever service sucks, only one time backed to check if we need something else, food it’s overpriced and overrated by far. Never come back to this place.

I was excited to try this place today for my birthday (Dec. 28th) and was immediately let down. Not only did they have a late start but my party was sat outside, after we asked to sit inside. We were told that they were booked solid today and that unfortunately they couldn’t accommodate that ask. We arrived at noon with no one else waiting except us. One of my friends proceeded to tell the manager, Manny, that it was my birthday, and he stated, “happy birthday, but there are a lot of birthdays today.” Strange… After being sat and ordering appetizers, the manager, Manny, made unnecessary comments about our selection of sake, saying, “ well… This is one of the cheaper ones.” we stayed maybe 30 minutes to pay for whatever we ordered and left. I have never received service like this from any sushi establishment and will not be returning.
