I had the freshest experience at Cannonball the restaurant faces the ocean and the view was amazing. Everything was wonderful from the fresh appetizers, tuna, the chef special sashimi fresh as the ocean. The shrimp tempura crispy and tasty. All of the rolls were on point and delightful. The R&B roll had steak asparagus with the taste of chili and garlic to awaken your taste buds. The Bone in Ribeye with the shishito peppers made this medium well steak delightful. The cocktails had the right blend of alcohol. The best part of the evening was the view of the sunset. The perfect end to my summer vacation in Carlsbad.

Cannonball in Mission Beach is the full package — stunning ocean views, fresh and flavorful food, and an energy that makes you want to stay all night. Raquel and Chance absolutely crushed it behind the bar with top-tier service and great vibes. Definitely one of my favorite spots now.

Choosing birthday dinner spot in San Diego is a hard decision but I’m so glad I chose Cannonball! Our waitress was very kind and friendly and we really enjoyed our visit. Sat right on the edge of the restaurant with a beautiful view of the beach and ocean. We ordered the salted edamame and the crispy octopus as appetizers. Super yummy. As for sushi, we ordered the Red Dragon, Rainbow, and Tokyo Nights rolls. Presentations were jaw-dropping and flavors were very fresh and creative. We also enjoyed the Flying Crane and the Coral Dragon drinks. The Coral Dragon did have a little kick with the jalapeño tequila, but it wasn’t too spicy. We were brought a birthday complimentary matcha tres leches cake for dessert and it was so good! I was so happy with our experience and service here. Loved walking down to the beach after dinner to top off a lovely evening. Parking in the Mission Beach public parking lot was a little tricky, but we found a spot after circling around a couple times. Since the restaurant is outdoor and on the rooftop next to the ocean, I’d suggest bringing a jacket. They do have heating lamps next to the tables though!

This spot was amazing! I went out for a much needed night out, and it was the perfect atmosphere to have a stress free night out with friends and family. Our server Sarah was great! She was on top of it and had a great attitude. I had the red dragon roll and the sushi did not disappoint. Great sushi great atmosphere.

Fresh flavors, stunning rooftop, and creative cocktails! I had an amazing lunch at Cannonball and can’t stop thinking about how fresh and flavorful everything was. The Cannonball Chopped Salad with grilled salmon was next-level—bright, colorful, and crunchy with the perfect balance of sweet mandarin segments and spicy peanuts. Honestly one of the best salads I’ve had in San Diego! We also ordered the Tokyo Nights roll—a stunning combo of crispy fried yellowtail, avocado, tuna, and a touch of cilantro aioli. Every bite was beautifully balanced and super fresh. To start, we had the garlic edamame, which came out piping hot and loaded with flavor (and generous garlic and salt). Definitely worth the upgrade. For drinks, the Lilikoi Collins was a standout—tropical, tart, and bubbly with a refreshing citrus twist. Loved that it was zero-proof, but still felt festive. Service was friendly and quick, and the rooftop view adds a whole vibe. Perfect spot for sushi lovers, sunset dates, or just treating yourself to great food with an ocean breeze. 🌊🍣🍹

We made reservation in the morning for my daughters Sweet 16 birthday. When we got there they escorted our party to a corner location that was perfect. Our reservation was at 6pm. Cannonball had outdoor heaters that made this experience so nice. For this occasion we got dressed up and didn't freeze watching the sunset!

I was very pleased to have visited this place. First of all, the location and view are perfect. The food was excellent and we didn't have to wait long. The staff was very friendly. I loved how everyone seemed to be happy and relaxed. Our server Sarah's was magnificent. I will definitely visit this place next time I'm in San Diego.

Bro, we had a small high school reunion at this location last Friday Night. First off the location is killer and the views are spectacular. We sat overlooking the Pacific Ocean at sunset.... need I say more. The food was great and check out the pictures! If you have the chance I recommend popping in here! 😁

Made a reservation for 2 for dinner and they were able to seat us facing the ocean to watch the absolutely gorgeous sunset! Our waitress was so sweet and gave us recommendations for what to do in San Diego. The rooftop dining area is very nice. I appreciated the heaters that they turn on after sunset to keep the open air area warm. The food and sake were delicious. My friend and I both got sushi; the small rolls were a perfect size for me after having a bigger lunch and the eel and sea bass tasted very fresh. My friend got the red dragon specialty roll, and it was also very yummy! The restaurant is perfectly located to walk along the beach before/after eating, or to explore the other activities in Belmont Park. I highly recommend eating here!

Don't go on a busy night, unless you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the views. Standard sushi rolls are just that, next time I will order the signature rolls. I really enjoyed the big fat pieces of sashimi. There's several different areas to enjoy dining including the lounge area (way chill) we sat at the open bar (no waiting to be seated, first come...) and both indoor and outdoor tables and all with the view of the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful!

Cannonball restaurant, located on Ocean Front Walk, Belmont Park in Mission Beach, is an open air facility, partially covered, upstairs. They serve "fancy", excellent sushi and Japanese dishes. We were a party of six, and several of us had been several times before. This was my wife and my first time. The service was excellent. The place is very popular and the food arrived on the slow side, ok because we were enjoying. Be advised, if you arrive after about 3p, don't sit facing the west. Brutal sun! It was a great experience, and we will likely return.

Food was mid. We didn't get a server to notice us for 20 minutes once we were sat. Once we had a server she had great service though. A bit overpriced for the food, not bad though. Great views ❤️ their drinks are good though! Recommend this place for drinks after the beach, food not unless you can't wait for somewhere else.

The views and atmosphere were nice here. They were very accommodating to our large party. The staff were top notch and kept up with all of our needs, while being friendly and courteous. The food was okay, I got to sample a few sushi rolls, appetizers, and oysters. There are much better options in the area though. As a date or HH spot, you can't beat the location. We liked that there was an elevator to get to the restaurant, this came in handy for my husband's grandmother who we were there to celebrate her birthday with.

We came to Cannonball to celebrate a special birthday and had high hopes—it started off great! The hostess team was warm and welcoming, and our bartender was fantastic. The view, vibe, and drinks were all on point. Unfortunately, our experience with our server—an older bald white man with glasses—left a disappointing mark on what should’ve been a beautiful night. He was friendly at first and even acknowledged the birthday, promising a special dessert. But after that, he barely checked on us—only twice the whole evening, and only when we waved him down. When I asked about dessert, he seemed surprised and dismissive, brought us a menu, then disappeared for a long time. He never came back to take our dessert order—just asked if we were ready for the check. It felt like we went from being celebrated to being ignored. Honestly, it made us wonder if we weren’t being taken seriously because we’re a younger, multiethnic group. Whether that was intentional or not, it changed the energy of the night and left us feeling overlooked. I don’t usually write negative reviews, and I want to be clear that the rest of the staff was great. But for a place that markets itself as an elevated dining experience, this kind of service—especially during a birthday celebration—was really disappointing.
