A wonderful place for special occasions, family gatherings, or just a nice dinner with a friend. The food is tasty and the service is excellent. The prices are reasonable and there is a good variety of Mexican dishes. On the weekends there can be live music on the stage next to the restaurant. I highly recommend!
Food and service were excellent. Would recommend! Live music was perfect too. Not too loud and made the dinner perfect.
It’s not just a restaurant, it’s an experience. The best churros can be found here — filled with vanilla. It has a special vibe. The atmosphere deserves more than 5⭐️
We had a great first experience at this Mexican restaurant! The outdoor seating and overall ambiance made for a really enjoyable weekend outing. There was a small wait of about 20 minutes, which wasn’t bad at all for a busy weekend. We were seated in a really nice spot toward the back where we could see sizzling fajitas being served. The smell alone convinced someone in our group to order them and they looked just as delicious as they smelled! I ordered the mar y tierra, which was excellent. Overall, our appetizers and entrées were fantastic. Our waiter, Rudy, was amazing he was very attentive and friendly. Thank you, Rudy, for making our first visit so enjoyable! We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in San Diego.
Casa de Reyes in San Diego offers a well-rounded experience. The food is great and flavorful, the cocktails are tasty, and the service is solid and attentive. The decor stands out—very cool and adds a lot to the overall atmosphere without feeling overdone. A reliable choice if you’re in the area and want good food, good drinks, and a pleasant setting. Recommended.
I've never eaten at Casa de Reyes restaurant, but I visit the courtyard and stores in the center often when I visit the Old Town Plaza. There are always interesting historical displays, some permanent, but others are specific to different culture events. The plaza is always lively and fun, and a great place to take visitors. There are a lot of interesting specialty stores to browse.
Amazing every time. Yes it is located in a tourist area, but the food is still fantastic and the ambiance is unbeatable. Tons of great dishes to choose from, and a fantastic place to get a drink. Wonderful for the whole family. They can certainly accommodate large groups. The pozole and molcajetes are top notch.
I've been here a couple of times and tonight we were in Old Town and dropped in. There was live singing and music because of dia los muertos. Food was excellent for a Mexican restaurant. I got the pick 3 and choose chicken tamales, beef enchiladas and tacos. Everything was delicious. My girl got the Mexican Caesar salad with chicken. Give it a try if you like Caesar salads. They have a wide variety of drinks also. We got the paloma.
This place has such fun ambiance. We ate on the patio and it was all decorated for Dia de Muertos. We went for my mom’s birthday and this is one of her favorite places. The food was good but not over the top delicious. This place is definitely all about the ambiance. We had the fajitas, enchiladas, and a chicken salad. My sister had a peach margarita and ended up ordering two, it was so good.
Casa de Reyes is the type of Mexican restaurant with both great atmosphere & service to match. I remember when nearly all Mexican restaurants had this old Mexican/Spanish colonial aesthetic. Located in the courtyard I’m reminded strongly of heritage, & thats something missing from modern Mexican restaurants. I ordered the Steak and Shrimp burrito with rice (Im not crazy about beans). The flavors were phenomenal & satisfied my Mexican pallet. The coffee was also perfect. Simple & good. I was reminded greatly of a Mexican cafe I grew up eating at as a child that no longer exists. To give me that comfort of memory thru food is a wonderful thing. Highly recommend Casa de Reyes.
You will walk up to the largest court area in Old Town. Greeted by some of the most amazingly sweet, kind and beautiful servers. Filled with plenty of shaded umbrella seating. The atmosphere is romantic and comfortable. I was alone and felt like I was the most welcomed person in the place. The food is absolutely fantastic. Delicious and enormous. The chips are fresh baked and served hot to the table with fresh Pico de gallo.
This place had a great atmosphere with live music on weekends. It was a bit crowded, so the service was a bit slow. But the food was really tasty! We only had to wait 10 minutes for a table on a Saturday evening, which was pretty cool. I really enjoyed the music and the vibe of the place. I’d definitely go back again!
Casa de Reyes is located in the courtyard of Old Town, near the stage and entertainment area. We visited during October when everything was decorated for Dia de los Muertos. The atmosphere was upbeat and the decor was very nice! The food itself was decent but pretty expensive. They do offer complimentary chips and salsa! The service we received here could have been better. Other than taking the order and bringing the check, our server never checked on us. We had to ask someone else for drink refills.
We thought the food was good. The service was also good. The atmosphere was excellent. I would love to come back here at night when it's most likely more lively with live music. My only complaint is the size portions are just too huge, and the menu options are limited.
We arrived and were seated immediately. The service was great and pleasant. I ordered the Mango Margarita, which was dangerously delicious and the crispy tacos with rice and beans. The heaters were on, the live band was playing and our food was delicious.
There's a lot to say about this place. The experience was okay; I wouldn't say it's the best. It feels overrated and more like a tourist spot. The service was lacking—our server hardly checked on us after the food arrived. The place is quite busy, so reservations are recommended. On the positive side, the atmosphere is really nice. The restaurant is surrounded by small shops, and they have live music and dancing. I enjoyed strolling through the different stores and seeing what they offered.
Fun place to visit with friends. It may not be the best Mexican food, and can be a bit pricey as it is a tourist trap, however once in awhile, it can be enjoyable... especially if there are events going on in Old Towne, live music, etc. The staff is very friendly and attentive, the cocktails are sometimes surprisingly strong for an establishment of this kind (that is a plus!!!), and the food (while not being the best you can find) is always fairly solid! You know what to expect. Not being presentedbwith surprises or disappointment is always a good thing! Overall no complaints. It can get really busy and a bit loud on weekends and event days, but there are also plenty times of day it is quieter and more relaxing. Follow it up with a walk through Old Towne and take in all the sights, entertainment and history. Great place to take any visitors/guests from out of town/state.
Very Spanish experience! The menus was in English with spanish mixed in. Right next door is some dancers and some Spanish music playing adding to the atmosphere. Very welcoming, food was amazing and filling (ate before I got a picture it was so good! 🤣) service was very formerly but took a bit to notice we were done. Warm welcoming and would definitely recommend to anyone who likes Mexican food, or wants to try something new or Evan is just a passer by 😂would come again.
Food was okay, but the service was lacking. We had to wait our entire meal for a refill on drinks and our server kept ignoring us. Pretty atmosphere. I would definitely consider coming here if it’s convenient and you’re hungry but not to go out of your way to stop in. Churros were good but she brought them with our lunch instead of after. Expensive as well. A lunch plate was $26-$30.
I was really looking forward to dining here based on the overwhelming positive reviews, but unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. The presentation of the restaurant and the dishes is definitely better than the actual service and food quality. I ordered the langosta and the molcajete. The molcajete portion was surprisingly small, and while the langosta looked oversized and impressive on presentation, there was minimal food inside. It felt like more focus was placed on appearance than on value and quality. The customer service also fell short. Although the manager and wait staff initially tried to make things right, we didn’t receive our soft drinks until the end of the meal, which added to the frustration. Overall, it just wasn’t the experience I was expecting. I truly wanted to enjoy this place, but it did not live up to the hype.even to pay out it took to long and didn’t even get my receipt
Today I decided to reward myself with a nice lunch out and I was going to go to OTMC, but my parking space ended up being closer toCasa de Reyes so I went there instead. I don't know if they have new owners or what, but the rolled tacos were SO hard I could not even bite them! And the food was so UNDERSEASONED. It wasn't worth biting them! Itvwas horrendously overpriced. $24.95 for 5 Rolled Chicken Tacos, NO rice, NO beans!!! I realltvdon't know what happened to the salsa that was served with the chips, but it had ZERO flavor! I was terribly disappointed because we've been eating there for years and we have had many co - worker reunions there, but I can guarantee you, that's the last time I will eat there. I will walk the extra mile to get to OTMC where I know the food will be good!
[ Edit to Review : Set to one star. Gave me horrible food poisoning. ] This place is definitely a hidden gem, which I can suggest to people to try, but I have some complaints and some very high marks to give. The conflicted nature of the experience is what makes me end up giving this place a lower score than it probably deserves. To start, the service was fantastic. Our waiter was very nice and helpful with the menus for the people at our table that were linguistically challenged by the Menus, and was on top of our table for the entire night. The area was a very cool experience. There are shops located around the perimeter of the restaurant and we ended up buying some items from the stores before sitting back down at our table to order. Everyone was in uniform, and while sometimes the uniforms seemed to be a bit closer to an offensive caricature of an authentic Spanish/Mexican Restaurant, similar to being on a Disney Ride or similiar, other times the designs, like with the buildings and architecture, was very cozy and nice to admire. To start off with the food, it was very expensive. This was the biggest sticking point and set my expectations of the meals to this high dining standard. When we got the food, starting with our dip -- it was cold. I was confused by this, as it was supposed to be a dip and went to grab the plate and was burned. I was not expecting this because our food was so cold and the plate was so hot -- this was an ongoing theme for everyone's dishes that night and made me wonder if they got it backwards and cooked the plates after running the food through the dishwashers. The flavors were actually bland too, with only the spiciness of the dishes being used to give the illusion of flavor. I used the provided limes to add the lime taste, but why hadn't my chef done that? Maybe a little salt and pepper or something? For the price, that's unacceptable. If I do decide to give this location another try, I will want to go during a more busy time when the kitchen is quickly prepping and pushing out food to ensure that it hits the table hot and I partly blame the reduced flavor on that point but it doesn't change how it ended up being served to me. I will tell people about my unfortunate experience when asked and suggest the same to them, or possibly going somewhere else.
