Great prices and delicious authentic tacos. Their adobada is al pastor, just like the best tacos in Tijuana. Great place. Only gripe would be for them to start carrying Bohemia!
TJ tacos, cheap drinks and lots of seating. This is a great spot to pre-game or wind down the night. Great music and margaritas. A great place to visit if you are in the Gaslamp. My favorite is the tacos al pastor. Pork marinated in a yummy pineapple sauce.
Great time everytime. Good food and even better drinks! Right downtown in the heart of things. Great place to be on the weekends with the fun nightlife Funky's comes alive!
Breakfast here was amazing. Chorizo and Eggs were phenomenal. I recommend adding a side of avocado and enjoying a mimosa with it
Great burritos. Lots of meat, so they are well worth the price considering it is in the Gas Lamp District of downtown San Diego. The fajitas I saw come out were huge & sizzling loud!
My friend and I rode our bikes over 20 miles under the summer heat to get there for breakfast (and a beer to cool down) then ride back home. It was well worth it! The service was good and they let us park our bike inside since there was available space.
Good Mexican food with a great atmosphere. We have the taco supreme and chicken quesadillas. Both were delicious. Add a Corona and you're all good.
Awesome tacos. Great location. This place rocks
Best Mexican in San Diego . Huge portions. . great locale
This experience was absolutely amazing! Freddy, Jorge and Chino made our day/ morning. We were trying to find a spot with good food, music and drinks and we found it! This place is awesome, staff is super helpful, nice and makes sure you’re taken care of. They also give you all the local tips. Highly recommend.

I really loved the crowd during the NCAA Championship football game! They were tons of fun and the waitress was excellent. She really made sure our group had a great time. We enjoyed beers, shots and food. I thought the drinks and the food was very reasonably priced. Their tacos were excellent as well!!!
Great service and food! The hostess, Alexia was so sweet and took care of us as soon as we walked up. She got a table outside prepared for us on the spot and served us chips and salsa and waters right away. Our waitress, Yesenia was also very kind and attentive! She recommended her favorite dishes and took care of us the entire time we were dining. We will definitely be back!!
Funky Garcia's is fun. When I am looking for a place to hang out low key... this is the place. They have great tasting food and the servers are cool. You can always be sure you are getting a fair pour on your drinks.
These negative reviews must be the competition . I recently visited Funkys on a visit from Texas, I was utterly impressed with the atmosphere and the food was excellent! I was greeted by the owner who was super friendly and asked how our drinks and food were. I was also impressed with how reasonably priced the food was. I will make it a point to visit this place again.

Great place to grab some drinks during happy hour. They have a great selection of Mexican beers on tap (Negra Modelo, Victoria among others). Carne asada fries are pretty good so are micheladas. They have a DJ on weekend nights also.
We went to watch a world cup soccer game the crowd was great bottle beers are cheap our waitress was attentive with a great attitude and a big smile all the time.my only request newer tv the large ones.but I understand this is not a sports bar.
Nachos appetizer are the best nachos I've ever had. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food! Fun place to eat.
Fun, tastes great, staff is pleasant. Gave us extra food just bcuz. Go on taco tuesday... It's cheap but good quality.
Gets a bit crowded but loove the atmosphere. If u like dancing on ledges this is a fun place to get a bit crazy. I always have a great time here.
My favorite thing to get here is the funky rolls, Those things blow my mind every time and its a shame I can't really find a good way to describe them. I only ever take my food to go, so I can't really comment on the service, but the food is always delicious.
In Gaslamp district. Nice casual late night option. Mexican food surpassed our expectations. The service was exceptional.
Good food and margarhitas, service was quick for a late lunch. Margaritas were pricey at 10 bucks but good, great vegetarian tacos!
Great burrito and and beer. Menu was a bit overpriced but not more then you would expect for the gas lamp district of San Diego. Huge plus
Are you telling me if I get on the bar and shake my rump you will give me a free shot? Oh it's Tequila.... Well either way I'm down! *Gets my coyote ugly on* The tacos may smell like those at Taco Bell, but the drinks are yummy and they have a happy hour errday that lasts til 11pm or was it midnight....by your 5th whiskey ginger at 5 fifty a pop you won't remember the time either. The music is great, the bartenders are fair, and the bathroom is adorable (kind of grungy). Great place to start your night and the flower ladies sell roses just in cases you want to finish on a romantic note.
Funky Garcia's is a bar and restaurant built in tribute to a Señor Funky Garcia, a mysterious figure whose avatar is a pudgy hung-over Mexican caricature. Yeah, it's a ridiculous theme, but the basis of my opinion on Funky Garcia's is not their slightly racist mascot. Due to its location in Gaslamp on Market Street between 4th and 5th, Funky's attracts a good amount of tourists. Of the locals who frequent here, I occasionally make friends, but the kind I want for my stories, not in my life. The atmosphere is bit dingy, but not disgusting -- except for the men's restroom, though I've seen worse. TVs play music videos in the evening, or occasionally sports. Usually the sound is not sync'd with the TVs. Good DJ on weekend nights spins a lot of older hip-hop. The staff working behind the bar, the doorstaff, and the bus staff are mostly friendly and service-oriented. I'm at Funky's frequently, and would say that some of the negative reviews on the people who work at this place are either grossly unfair or representative of unusual circumstances. Drinks are cheap for Gaslamp. As for their food, there is a lot of good value to be had. While some of Funky's menu is "poser Mexican," even by San Diego standards (mexican pizzas, fajitas, and nachos), everything I've had has been edible at minimum. I recommend the Tacos Al Pastor, Churros, and the TJ Dogs for late-night snacking. I stop in when I'm passing by, but I wouldn't make a special trip here. It is a reliable and affordable place to unwind if you are in the area.
One of the best deals for beer and food away from Comic Con. Just a few blocks away, worthwhile walk of viewing. Food pretty good, service quick, and prices leave you enough to buy some comic stuff on way back to Con!
Good food at a reasonable price, but I can't give them 5 Stars because $5 beer is not happy hour. That's normal hour and you're just making stuff up. At least the food is reasonably priced and good.
Great place, decent prices, and you just cannot beat Taco Tuesday at $2 street tacos (which were generously proportioned)
Great location! I really liked the salsa, the tacos had tons of flavor and the atmosphere was fun. Overall a decent little spot.
Amazing food, lots of it and a decent price. The happy hour drinks are good too!

The food is really good, the fajitas ARE. TO. DIE. FOR! The alcohol drinks seem to be a little light on the alcohol though, might want to ask for a bit extra when ordering, no kid's menu per se but if you can figure something out, they'll love the ambience, it's pretty.. funky 😂

Their happy hour has great prices for those looking to pregame before a night out on the town and good tasting Mexican food to fill up on. The staff is lively and engaging.
Came in there on a Friday night. Place was dead but the drinks were cheap and ample. Security guard frisked me but not the others in my party for some reason .good place to get pre parties at a low cost other than the items I mentioned above
This is the typical, Southern CA Mexican restaurant that you've eaten at 10,000 times before in your life. Have you ever eaten at El Torrito? Well then you've eaten the same exact food you'll find at this place. The decor is made to look intentionally seedy like a Tiajuana bar. The food is average. You've had it before. I guarantee it. That's the reason I give this place 3 stars. There's nothing wrong with it, but living in Los Angeles, I've eaten so much Mexican food to compare it too. This tastes like all the other cliche stuff I've eaten. Dejavu! Nothing special.
Food is good, a bit too salty sometimes and happy hour it's not worth it, cause it's $5 a beer
Good staff, but food isn't anything to die for. Gaslamp area. Being vegetarians, we ordered a Garcia Fries which is essentially fries, guac, pico de gallo, cream, and cheese. Very average. The free chips and salsa though were really good. I guess the main reason why people end up going here is the cheap booze and casual atmosphere. We went there to kill time before making our way to an Italian restaurant and the time we spent here was quite alright.
The food was good in taste, but the portion made up for the lack of service. The overall rating was based on the of service from our waitress, good thing there was 2 others to pick up her slack. I would still recommend this place for the overall value, and atmosphere of the restaurant. Enjoy I think you will.

$10 for a plain cheese quesadilla is steep, and my $9 Cadillac Margarita was weak. This place feels like an overpriced college bar. I will not return. Edit: Asked the bartender where the bathroom was, came back three minutes later and my half-full drink had already been cleared away. Terrible service.
Came in for Happy Hour. Drinks were good but the waitresss was incredibly rude the whole time. Attitude every time we asked for something and acted like we were an inconvenience. Not sure if it's because we were just ordering some drinks but it was a very uncomfortable experience.
Prices high for what you get. Not much on the menu. Seating very uncomfortable and slick. Not much to pick from on the menu. Staff got order wrong when I said we wanted to split the order(me and my small child), it was brought out on two plates but I was charged for two. Then they didn't act like they understood me when I pointed it out.

I've been here 3 times now and each time I've been disappointed. They're service is very poor. Literally waited 45 minutes for the bar tender because he kept skipping us even though I was waving him down and when we finally got him to help us I didnt even feel like purchasing anything anymore. Also we had someone in our group with a knee brace who needed to sit so she say on a bar stool out of everyone's way and she was told she couldn't sit.
avoid at all costs... when i asked for my bill i received a whopping 382 dollar bill... my wife and i asked for a print out so we could see where all this money was being ask for they walked away and avoided us for nearly 15 minutes and when i asked a little louder the female bartender came and asked what did i want , very rudely...i let them know theres been some sort of mistake on my bill and i needed a print out to see why the bill was high she could not look at me in the eyes from how hammered she was and so was the other bartender... seemed very fidgety and uneasy. kept cleaning his nostrils.. very weird. after arguing for more than half an uhh our a "manager" came over and made fun of us for not wanting to pay the bill.. at the end i let them know if anything...and me being generous...i would pay for the drinks we had..which would equal out to about 120 dollars... but no..they laughed and brought me another bill but this one for 191...ive had enough it was later and i was tired... i said ive had enough and said...run it and grabbed my wife and we left.... please do yourself a favor.. the place stinks and they have terrible service...and the bartenders seem to be on some "good stuff".... never again...
We went there on the 28th of October, weekend before Halloween. Sat for 10 min totally being ignored. People sitting after us getting service. One star is being nice.
My wife and I waited outside on the sidewalk for 10 minutes at 2pm on a Friday and didn't even get seated! (No wait not many people inside and no greeter, wait to be seated sign) They lost our business and most likely we won't go back just to wait and waste time standing on the sidewalk to be ignored again. We walked down to Micho's instead and not only was the pricing better but we were able to walk right in with no hassle and enjoy a fabulous lunch. Duces Funky Garcia's!
I was singled out tonight out of my group of 10 friends by an employee. Our waiter (short dude, darker skinned with glasses) asked for my Id when we were ordering food and drinks. I’ve never felt so DISCRIMINATED against in my life. I am 28 years old and don’t deserve to be singled out from all my friends just because I look young.. he was like “you...can I see your id” I was so embarrassed. Never coming here again!
Terrible, my friend and I wanted a couple of decent burritos for lunch, the menu seemed a bit pricey but I figured that it would be worth it, so wrong. My friend wanted some add-on items to their burrito and I wanted no sour cream, they proceeded to absolutely rip us off on the add-ons (adding fries to a bean and cheese should not cost $5) and the CA burrito is garbage, just meat, cheese, fries, and sour cream? $10? I thought the menu was a typo but nope, it's that bare bones. At that price and with nothing to go with the meat you'd think they'd get top quality carne but again, what a joke, half of it was fat and gristle, I got tired of spitting it out and just threw the last third away. What a waste of $30. On the bright side the waitress was nice and apologetic about the rip-off add-ons and another positive is that I got my food to go, the cantina was little more than a gross looking and smelling dive bar, I would not have wanted to spend any more time there than the two minutes it took to pay for my food and go. What an utter and miserable failure, sometimes it's nice when a place is this bad, there's no shadow of a doubt that I'll give them the chance to disappoint me again.
So hungry to have our plates mixed up and cold! Oh but, the dudes were taking shots Meantime the cooks messing up your orders! And they still charge you full service you’d figure at least a discount!
Terrible service! It took forever to bring drinks. Tacos are small and not tasty at all. They cannot split our check among 6 people. Moreover, the waiter said that margarita cots $5.50 but they changed $9 per drink. Not recommended
Terrible service. I’ve been at the bar for 5 minutes. No one has looked at me spoken to me welcomed me into the restaurant. Last time I was here 10 years ago. I stopped coming because a roach walked across the bar.
