This was our first time trying an all you can eat sushi restaurant at the Mira Mesa location. It was not a long wait on a Sunday, though very busy. We loved the service, friendliness, individual menu option and the great tasty food. We also enjoyed the knowledge of sushi choice and expertise Dominic recommended. He made sure to go out of his way to make our day even more special. The parking lot was full but it was not long finding one. The food is so delicious that we will be coming back again.
Review: Little Sakana – A Sushi Lover’s Paradise in San Diego 🍣 If you’re looking for a top-tier All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) sushi experience in San Diego, Little Sakana is an absolute must-visit. From the fresh cuts of fish to the creative specialty rolls and flavorful appetizers, this spot strikes the perfect balance between quality and quantity. Here is a breakdown of why this spot should be on your dining list: The Starters: Bold & Fresh We kicked things off with a variety of appetizers that set a high bar for the rest of the meal: * Garlic Edamame: Tossed in a savory, aromatic garlic sauce with plenty of crispy bits. It's addictive and way better than your standard salted version. * Seaweed & Cucumber Sunomono: The seaweed salad was vibrant and crunchy, while the cucumber salad provided a refreshing, vinegary palate cleanser between the richer rolls. * House Salad: Even the salad impressed with its thick, tangy ginger dressing and colorful beet curls. The Main Event: The Rolls & Nigiri The sushi here is where Little Sakana truly shines. The fish-to-rice ratio is excellent—a rarity in many AYCE spots. * Specialty Rolls: We tried several rolls topped with tempura crunch and eel sauce. The textures were spot on—crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth fresh on the inside. * The Jalapeño Heat: One standout was a roll topped with fresh tuna and serrano/jalapeño slices. It delivered a clean, sharp kick that complemented the richness of the fish perfectly. * The Classics: The Avocado and Cucumber rolls were tightly packed and used perfectly ripe produce. For nigiri fans, the Inari (tofu skin) was sweet, juicy, and a great vegetarian-friendly bite. Atmosphere & Value The pricing is very competitive for the quality you receive: * Lunch: $31.99 * Dinner/Weekends: $39.99 * Bonus: They even offer a Premium Sashimi add-on for $12.99 if you want to go all out. The 2-hour time limit is more than enough to explore the expansive menu. Whether you’re at the Mira Mesa or South Bay location, the service is prompt, ensuring your next round of rolls arrives before you even have a chance to get hungry again. > Pro Tip: Don’t sleep on the "Kitchen Appetizers." The baked green mussels and gyoza are fantastic additions to a heavy sushi rotation. > Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fresh, creative, and incredibly satisfying. Little Sakana remains one of the best value-for-money sushi spots in Southern California.
The best sushi I have ever had. The place is always jam packed with diners and its clear why. All of the fish was very fresh rolls and such were well made. Our waiter made often visits to the table and the orders came out in seconds. They have a good system at this place; you never have to wait long even for cooked rolls/ fish. Very friendly staff and cool atmosphere. The only thing I would recommend is that you sign up on the wait list online, especially if its a weekend night. The wait time was 1hr 15min. Although, we'll worth the wait if tou have to.
A great all you can eat sushi option - the fish is fresh and honestly big portions! For AYCE, the fish to rice ratio is great and if you wanted you can pay ~$12 more pp to do the sashimi option which we will do the next time! Service is fast and super nice! The restaurant itself is a bit chaotic and loud (of course) but again, loved the experience and will be back!
What a great place. We celebrated two Birthdays and everyone ordered all you can eat. Service is fantastic. You will get one waiter/waitress but you are serviced by many others as they bring fresh sushi to the table. The selection of fresh fish is incredible. Appetizers, soups, salads and for a little extra sashimi is included with selections from each catagory. . They do not fill you up on rice if you stick with Niguri or the handrolls... the restaurant is very clean and the atmosphere is festive in part because all around us are really enjoying themselves and because we felt the employees were enjoying themselves too. Truly a wonderful experience. Give this restaurant a try. If you like sushi this is definitely a winner.
Even after all these years, Little Sakana remains the best AYCE Sushi this side of the Mississippi! Delicious food, strong drinks and excellent service make it an ideal place to relax and enjoy fresh sashimi, nigiri, sushi and kitchen food. Price, value, selection- nobody even comes close!
We loved our food and had such a fun experience! I like that the portions are small so you can try lots of different things. Our waitress Katelyn was amazing and on top of everything, even on a busy Saturday. Some highlights for us were the Furikake Fries, Garlic Ponzu Nigiri, Volcano roll, and especially the Lemon roll, definitely a must try!
Every time we're in the area, this is our go-to place. Our favorite piece would have to be the ex-boyfriend. We had many nigiri pieces, like the sashimi salad, garlic ponzu salmon, and the umani oil salmon! For the rolls, we had the firecracker and it had rich flavors! Most of the time this place is busy, so you'll have to come earlier in the day to avoid wait time. The interior has beautiful art, you'll see them once you come in. They have both AYCE and regular menus, whichever one you prefer. I recommend this place to everyone, especially if you're in the area. Parking can be difficult at times because it's next to Vons and CVS, but it's worth being patient.
I was on vacation but I'm a huge fan of this sushi spot. Will 100% be returning. The quality of fish was some of the best I've had in a long time. Service was great. Despite being busy, they always got our food out relatively quickly. Our Server (Anne) was awesome and she deserves a raise!!! Wait was really long, but definitely worth it. We tried nearly all the rolls, but the albacore delight roll was the the best on the whole menu! (We are big backs and ordered like 12 of them)
First time visiting from out of town. I was solo, so seated pretty quickly. The place was rather busy, so it was apparent that it must be good...and it was. All you can eat for 38 bucks was a great value, and I left not only satisfied with the food quality, but satisfied with the service and amount of food I got for that price. Everything was fresh and I was astonished at just how quickly the food made it to my table. I will be returning when I'm back k in town and may even bring a friend or two with me. Make sure you get there early!
Dude, how can I even begin to characterize how amazing this restaurant is. This is by far THE BEST sushi restaurant I've ever visited in my entire life, no exaggeration! Here's why: • They have an all you can eat option! (And it's very reasonably priced ☺️) • The food is fresh and delicious • Service is VERY fast and friendly • The decor and ambiance are fun and modern • There are some great options on the menu, even non-sushi offerings • They offer half rolls (4 pieces) on many special rolls so you can try more items without filling up as quickly! • It's located in an area that's relatively close to most of SD county and there's plenty of parking If you're looking for a fantastic spot for some delicious sushi, please do yourself a favor and go to Little Sakana. You shan't regret it!
I was very skeptical about “all you can eat” as generally the quality of food is poor. NOT HERE AT Little Sakana! This is my second time here and everything that has been put on our table has been so delicious! My favorite is the Lotus Flower Roll! If you are reading this, it’s all you can eat on the menu…minus very little, in which you server will point out. Trying new things is the best place for it, so take a chance on something you might not order at other places, you will be pleasantly surprised as the food is so well prepared and delicious. The servers are prompt and great. Esther is our server both times we were here and she is so wonderful, and her colleagues are great as well. You generally will not be waiting long for your food, but understand this, word is getting out about Little Sakana and weekends can get really busy. Get on the waiting list and they will fit you in. It’s worth the wait.

Everything was very tasty. We went for lunch right when they opened, scan the QR code by the entrance to check in, it gets full pretty fast. Service was 10/10, someone always cleaning up empty plates and your server ready to take your order. Although the fish was very good, the rice portions could have been so much better especially for the price point. The portion of rice was almost the same size as the fish, almost overpowering the fish taste. First time trying this place, and although tasty, will not be coming back due to the portions of rice.
have avoided coming here for years because it always looks insanely busy but surprisingly did not take long to get a table! service was fast and our waiter repeatedly checked in on us which was great! food was good! not pictured is an assorted sashimi salad that was absolutely delicious i 100% recommend it!!!
Little Sakana in Mira Mesa is a solid choice when you’re craving all‑you‑can‑eat sushi without a long wait. The standout here is definitely the fast and efficient service—orders come out quickly, and the staff keeps things moving, which is great for an AYCE spot. As for the food, it’s good but not particularly memorable. The sushi is fresh enough and the menu has plenty of variety, but nothing really stands out as exceptional. It gets the job done if you’re hungry, but it’s not the type of place you go to for a special sushi experience. Overall, it's a dependable choice for a quick AYCE fix, especially if you value speed and consistency. The food is okay, the service is great, and you’ll leave full.
Great value AYCE but some sushi such as the tuna is not great quality. And they use a lot of rice and imitation crab in the rolls to fill you up. And unagi is limited to two pieces which defeats the purpose of AYCE. But I didnt get sick and food was decent enough. Will return. Service is speedy
08-19-2025 My son turned 25 years old. We asked him to pick a place to celebrate his bday; he chose this restaurant. We had the Premium All You Can Eat $31.99 lunch, ends at 3pm. Ordered: -1 Salmon Kama -1 Yellowtail Kama- had better flavor than Salmon Kama -2 Miso -1 Fried Takoyaki- mushy, not my cup of tea -1 Fried Calamari- piping hot yummy -4 Shrimp Bomb- taste like deep fried imitation crab with mayo -4 Shrimp Tempura- crunchy delicious -6 Eel- overwhelmed with sauce -3 Garlic Ponzu Salmon- fresh -3 Citrus Soy Salmon- fresh -3 Umami Oil Salmon- best of the 3 salmon -1 Lotus Flower -1 Spider -1 Dragon -1 Crispy Salmon Skin- too much sauce -3 Salmon -6 Yellowtail- one of my favorites -6 Spicy Scallop -3 Albacore -3 Ex-Boyfriend -3 Sweet Soy Salmon -1 Baked Green Mussel- per my party, “Not the best, not the worst!” -3 Yellowtail Jalapeño -3 Shrimp- nothing special -3 Sweet Soy Tuna -1 Sashimi Salad- refreshing Drinks: -Melona Twist $17 -Sapporo $7 Service: 4/5 Dom checked on us often. We enjoyed his service and pleasant demeanor. I mentioned to him we came to celebrate my son’s birthday; at the end of our meal, he and two other staff brought my son a cup of vanilla ice cream with a candle coupled with a “Happy Birthday” sign and wished my son a happy birthday. Nice touch! : ) Note: The $31.99 lunch doesn’t include chef’s special (only dinner), drinks and dessert are extra charge.
I had the all you can eat sushi. Pretty good sushi for the price. Good service and good portions. cool atmosphere.

Fresh AYCE sushi, what's not to like. The place is very WYSIWYG, which is perfect. It offered good value & ample parking. I'd go back!
Little Sakana is a typical looking Japanese restaurant in a strip mall where we stopped for lunch mainly for their spacious outdoor seating area. We got the sushi lunch specials which had a handful …
Food and experience were okay overall. Soon as we walked in the person greeting us wasn’t the nicest- there’s a way to say things to your customer so you don’t sound rude and aggressive. - Also - not sure if we had a server cause the girl who took our order said “your server is caught up with something so I’ll take your order for him” but then not sure if anyone claimed our table…. Or??? - The drink was diluted and disappointing. Got the cucumber cooler. Tasted too watered down. - Most of the rolls were good but there was no wow factor. - There is no dessert menu??? I thought for sure there’d at least be mochi ice cream 🤷🏻♀️ - The kitchen was very efficient- most of the rolls were coming out fast enough. Up until the last order. Got it after we had paid and were ready to leave.
Decent AYCE sushi in San Diego. I loved all of the sashimi and nigiri options. Be sure to join the waitlist! The servers also mixed up our orders a lot

I brought my family here for a birthday dinner. The entire party had already arrived and was waiting outside while I was parking. Despite this, the restaurant refused to seat my family because I was not physically at the hostess stand yet. The issue is that none of the policies the manager enforced are posted anywhere — not at the entrance, not at the hostess stand, and not online. There is no visible signage stating: • the full party must be present to be seated • a two-hour limit policy • that the last arriving guest will receive less dining time These rules were only mentioned after the situation escalated. The manager was rude and dismissive, asking me sarcastically if I had a “registration,” then accusing us of lying by claiming the hostess said only two people were present, when the entire group was clearly outside waiting together. By the time I arrived inside, we were suddenly told there were no tables available. When questioned, the manager said they were “waiting for more staff,” which makes no sense at 6:00 PM during dinner rush. If staffing limitations affect seating, that should also be communicated clearly and honestly. Because of this poor communication, unposted rules, and disrespectful treatment, my family was forced to leave and find another place for a birthday dinner. The celebration was completely ruined and very upsetting. Policies are fine — unposted, inconsistently enforced policies combined with rude management are not. If you are planning a birthday, family dinner, or group outing, I strongly recommend choosing another restaurant.
