Wowowowow. My favourite omakase, and I've had many. I haven't felt this level of happiness and excitement in an omakase since my first one. This place knocks it out of the park and is tied for my favorite meal ever. The food is unparalleled and each dish is prepared with such care. The flavours are powerful but not overpowering. They melt in your melt and combine into such splendid experiences. The service is top-notch as well. I look forward to coming back many times.

I’ve tried just about every Omakase spot, big and small, in San Diego—and this one is by far my favorite and the most delicious yet! You need to book and pay in advance through the official website. Right now, it’s $225 for the meal, plus $45 gratuity and $20 tax. Reservations are available at either 5 pm or 8 pm. When you arrive, you can find street parking nearby. The restaurant opens promptly on the dot, and once you’re seated, you can order your drinks—then you’ll wait about 20 minutes before the meal officially starts. Food Review: The ingredients are super fresh and top-quality, and the menu changes with the seasons. The chef explains each dish before you try it. Most ingredients are sourced from Toyosu Market in Tokyo, Japan, as well as local suppliers right here in San Diego. The presentation is exquisite—every single dish looks like a work of art. The flavors strike a perfect balance of taste, texture, and aroma. Standout dishes include A5 wagyu beef served with seasonal vegetables and Japanese mackerel nigiri. My personal favorites this time were the smoked sashimi and A5 wagyu tartare puffs—they were absolutely amazing! Service: Three chefs work in perfect harmony, preparing the dishes right in front of you. There are also two servers standing by at all times, ready to hand you plates, clear away used ones, and refill your water. They’re incredibly attentive and thoughtful—you basically don’t have to lift a finger to handle any dishes yourself. They anticipate your needs before you even ask, making for a seamless dining experience. Case in point: if you step away to use the restroom, you’ll come back to find your napkin neatly refolded for you. Atmosphere: The vibe is elegant and cozy. It’s a high-end sister restaurant of Azuki Sushi, dedicated to showcasing the elegance and seasonality of kaiseki cuisine. There are only 10 seats in total, though they occasionally squeeze in one extra guest. All in all, it’s a really intimate spot. As a nice final touch, the staff sees you off at the door when you leave, and even gives you a little greeting card and a copy of the menu to take home as a souvenir. It boasts a solid 4.8-star rating on Yelp and has been around for three years now. If you’re a Japanese food lover, I highly recommend this place!

Dare you to find a better dining experience in San Diego. Best Omikase in San Diego County, regardless of what stars and mentions others may have. Incredible, knowledgeable staff; they know food, sake and wine. Food and service are spectacular. True artists delivering the best Omikase!

Very straightforward approach to omakase here at Kinme. Familiar ingredients, approachable things, delicate flavors. We had the summer menu which was highlighted by fresh lemon and wasabi. Various fish and clam dishes, some uni, wagyu, and a little bit of octopus accompanied miso this and dashi that, shiso and ginger made an appearance also as well as some corn. This salt, that pepper, some zest, every course was good and some were great. It was all very summertime. I enjoyed it!

A standout omakase experience—seasonal, thoughtful, and effortlessly elevated. From start to finish, the staff delivers a sense of warmth and polish that matches the precision of each dish. The Nigiri Toro Tower (yes, I’m making that a thing) was unforgettable—melt-in-your-mouth layers of indulgence that deserve their own fan club. Every course felt like a quiet celebration of flavor and craftsmanship. This meal was a gift, literally and figuratively—courtesy of my soon-to-be mother-in-law, whose taste in gifts is only rivaled by her generosity. Safe to say she now holds legendary status in my culinary memories. Whether you’re a seasoned omakase enthusiast or just looking for a special night out, Kinme is a standout. Quietly luxe, deeply satisfying, and absolutely worth savoring.

Amazing omakase. This is a gem for San Diego, especially in the city area. The quality and thoughtfulness in their menu and service is on par with some of the ones you may experience in places like NYC, but right here! 8 seats each seating time, the service was very enjoyable and not at all feeling rushed. The food were beautifully presented prior to plating and the aroma along with the “show” is all well worth the price tag (unlike some other “omakase” we’ve been tricked to before per social media) we especially appreciated that the owner /chef was right there being part of the service. Thank you for bringing a true experience and respect for Japanese culture and food to the city of San Deigo! We had the early summer 2025 menu and was very happy with every dish, the freshness of each ingredient used (including wasabi root) beautifully shines as we eat each piece per chef’s instruction. LOVED our experience, will be returning!

We went back in October, and our experience was impeccable. It was truly the best meal of my life. The staff were on top of everything, and the quality of the ingredients were excellent. I still think about the corn soup and ceremonial matcha at the end.

To start, this experience is going to cost you some money. Omakase along with wine/sake pairings is around $380 per person with tax and service fee (20%). You can skip the pairings and just order a glass of wine or sake but for me there wasn't much of a choice. I wanted to enjoy the experience in its entirety. For us this was a special occasion, my hubbys birthday, was worth every penny. There are only 10 seats so I was a little apprehensive having to belly up to a small bar elbow to elbow with strangers. Not the case at all. The bar is really long and seating space is quite generous with plenty of room between each of us. There were 2 other parties aside from us and all pretty much kept to themselves albeit a lively bunch. During the courses of the evening our chefs would introduce ingredients and preparations leading to an epic culinary journey. Setting hay on fire for the hay smoked salmon was quite dramatic and the result, will get to that later. Every step was thought out, methodic and precise. Expert level is the name of the game at Kinme. This includes the well synchronized wait staff, you'll be in very good hands. This is a 10 course tasting menu plus matcha tea at the end. Mind you, some courses like sashimi and sushi aren't like one piece but many, many, many pieces. I won't go into detail about everything we had but it's worth noting that their menu changes with the season. So the menu we had was towards the end of its run and a new menu will start soon. Looking at other menu posts the categories don't change much but the ingredients do. There were a few things that stood out and I can't stop thinking about them. First the hay smoked salmon in the sashimi course was mind blowing. Also in that course we were served an A5 Wagyu tartar puff. It warped me as it tasted like In-n-out burger but many steps above in flavor, texture and overall satisfaction. A5 Wagyu is something else. When leaving the chefs were outside to bid all of their guests farewell. We left full and extremely happy, what a truly memorable evening.

My girlfriend took me here for a surprise dinner date. Easily one of the best meals I’ve EVER had! Not only was the setting very intimate, the service was top notch… Now on to the food… Every single bite was an explosion of different complementing flavors. The quality of the fish was as good as it gets and the chefs focused on making sure each dish was a unique combination of complimenting flavors. 12/10 restaurant, easily the best sushi I’ve ever had (even better than the sushi I’ve had in Japan). I will 100% be coming back, totally worth the price!!

An experience. How it hasn't been rated by Michelin seems criminal. A well curated meal with enough food to fill you up without being bloated after. The food is delicate at first with flavor ramping up towards the end. The Wagu is almost too decadent. This is a hidden gem that has been open for two years. Reservations are required in advance and service took just under two and a half hours. This is not just a meal but a legitimate tour through food culture in SD. Food sourced locally and from across the Pacific gives an authentic dinner service along with local tastes. I will return to try the other seasonal menus which chef told us switch in May and July 4th. This is a perfect staycation spot to experience another culture of food service without traveling overseas.

Excellent service and omakase. The ambiance was very unique for a San Diego omakase experience— a darker room with a dramatic marble wall was the backdrop to the beautifully plated dishes. I loved the Japanese jazz music in the background. They are the one of the rare SD omakase restaurants willing to accommodate for my gluten intolerance. Will be back for more. Heads up, I don’t think they have any special treatments for birthdays. We got a HBD note on our way out. Street parking only. My only note… for a pricey omakase, I wish their uni was from Hokkaido or Santa Barbara. That being said, they did a great job with the San Diego uni.

@kinmesd delivered a memorable experience for us. From beginning to end I was in awe with the attention to detail, precision and heart they put into every bite. There was never a moment we weren’t taken care of by the chef’s assistants. It was beautiful to watch a group of people work together, harmoniously, and the reflection that had on the food. @kinmesd I will be thinking about this meal for a very long time. Thank you for making our anniversary dinner such a special experience.

This is hands down the best dining experience I’ve ever had. From start to finish (truly from the door opening to the greeting as we left) this was a beyond incredible evening. It’s been over a month since we were here and I still find myself talking about it all the time. First, the experience. Only 10 people per seating, plenty of staff taking care of you before you even know you need anything, and a beautiful, smooth transition between courses. Everything seems like it’s done with care and intention. Second, the taste. Incredible. Some of the best flavor combinations I’ve ever experienced and unforgettable dishes, especially the salmon and the wagu. Every plating was beautiful and added to the experience. And getting handed the nigiri as it was being made was just an incredible experience. Not a single thing wasn’t loved. If you’re in San Diego do yourself a favor and get a reservation here you simply won’t regret it. And for $175 a seating truly this is a deal for the quality (and quantity) of food and the experience. Loved receiving the full menu as we left. Made it truly an unforgettable experience door opening to door closing. I can’t wait to be back and try what other amazing things this incredible team puts together.

Went here with my wife on our anniversary and was delighted by one of the finest dining experiences we’ve ever had! She’s spent a good amount of time in Japan so is very tuned what makes for truly good Japanese food. Kinme really delivered! Every little detail was thoughtfully planned and executed down to the way they hand you the plates to the lighting in the space! The food is incredibly high quality and crafted in ways that bring out a burst of the natural flavors. So balanced and refined. The service was impeccable and really special because the place is so intimate and it’s timed seating. Just an incredible special experience. Can’t wait to go back again!

Words really can't describe how delicious everything was. Still processing it. This truly was a culinary experience where every course and piece was introduced to us personally by the chefs and you could see them working - meticulously - through every single piece. The quality of everything was extraordinary. The ambiance was calm and the service was all on point to the point of filling your cup even when it was half full. And when my friend dropped something, the waitress immediate grabbed it for her. Everything from the quality of the fish, to the very special and unique serve ware - from the little cups to the wood spoons and even the beautiful sake cup collection - was a feast for the eyes, nose as well as mouth. The meticulousness throughout every part of the experience shows just how detailed oriented and thoughtful the owner Shihomi was in creating a once in a lifetime experience for anyone who enters the door. The menu changes every season - if not even more. I'm definitely going back for more - and hopefully each season. My favorites were definitely the Mukozuke sashimi course. I got to taste flavors I've never tasted before - from the Hay-smoked Kin Salmon to all the other pieces included. The bite by bite of the Hanmono nigiri sushi course was a dream - from the least fatty tuna to the king of all tuna bellies. The course ended in an absolutely deciious date ice cream. The flavor and textures of the crushed meringue made the desert just the perfect amount of sweetness. And to top it off.. we got to experience the short version of a matcha tea ceremony while listening to calming music. As I said before... I'm definitely going back. And I highly recommend this experience if not at least once, if not more!

The food at this place is amazing, I have been to the other 1 star michelin sushi restaurants in san diego and LA. The quality of the ingredients and number of courses is worth the price point. It probably is my favorite omakase in san diego. I'm very impressed and would recommend!

What an epic experience! An evening at Kinme is pure art, grace and beauty! Shihomi Sakai Borillo has elevated the omakase concept to a new level. Her chefs prepare magic, and her staff is impeccable. I also appreciated the seamless pre-payment and email notifications. A class act from start to finish.

I came here by myself for dinner around New Year’s, and it turned out to be such a lovely experience. The food was amazing, and the atmosphere felt warm, elegant, and calm ,perfect for enjoying a quiet dinner alone. My server, Elizabeth, was incredibly sweet and kind. She made me feel comfortable right away and took such good care of me throughout the evening. She was attentive without being overwhelming, and our small conversations felt natural and genuinely pleasant. Dining alone can sometimes feel awkward, but she made it feel easy and relaxed. From the décor, to the service, to the overall vibe, everything came together beautifully. It was one of those nights where you simply enjoy good food, good energy, and your own company. I left feeling happy and well taken care of. I would absolutely come back again—and I’d love to be served by Elizabeth next time.

One of the best spots in San Diego. It's expensive but the service, atmosphere, and food are worth it. We've gone for our first official date as a couple and then again for our 1 year anniversary once married. Go for the experience amd treat yourself. Not your everyday spot. I normally rate: 1 star dont go 2 star average and would only go if really need or por service or very overpriced. 3 star above average. good rating for me. id go again. 4 star is great. lots of perks and bonuses 5 star is absolutely recommend and must go

My wife and I went for our anniversary and before we left, I read reviews that said you don't go to Mister A's for the food, you go for views and ambiance. But I will say that we both found the food amazing. The octopus appetizer was wonderful. The rack of lamb was perfection. The brussel sprouts and Mac and cheese were recommended and they definitely measured up. I personally found the prime rib to be a little salty but that can be subjective. I'm not a huge fan of sweets but the dessert was really good as well. Even the valet was quick and easy. After we paid online, we clicked to bring our car around before we left our table and our car was being pulled up when the elevator doors were opening. All in all, we will definitely go back for the views, ambiance, service, and the food.

I’ve been coming here for 20 years and I’ve never been disappointed. The food is simply phenomenal. The service is always of the highest quality. I’ll let the view speak for itself in the pictures below. Over the years I’ve had so many memorable and happy dinners here with my parents, and more recently with my husband. This place is very special and is one of my all-time favorite restaurants.

I’ve been to Mr. A’s more times than I can count—girls’ nights, romantic dinners with my husband, and most recently, a casual evening with my sister—and every single time it’s a flawless experience. The service is consistently top-notch, the food never disappoints, and the cocktails are always spot-on. The location and views are easily among the best in San Diego, which makes dining here feel special whether you’re celebrating or just indulging in a night out. On my latest visit, we shared the tuna “chips and dip,” the fig flatbread, and a round of dirty martinis—all delicious. In the past, I’ve enjoyed full dinners with steak and all the accompaniments, and the quality is always exceptional. Mr. A’s isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a San Diego institution and, in my opinion, one of the premier dining destinations in the city. I can’t wait to go back and try some of their seasonal happy hour specials.

A bespoke experience! I came here only to watch a pianist perform on a Wednesday night. I ordered one drink, which, given the name and prestige of the venue, wasn't that much more than any other cocktail bar. I enjoyed every moment at this incredible bar, which felt modern but also like a blast from the past. The views were nice but to be honest, where I was seated, at the cocktail bar, slightly limited. The staff was uniformly friendly and welcoming. I made sure to wear a black button-down, and felt that this was actually an important thing to be aware of.

Good, limited menu but something for everyone. Beautiful to watch the sunset and or watch planes landing from birds eye view. $40 corkage fee. One of the best cooked ribeyes but scallops were not the biggest or have the rich flavor.

Mister A's was 5 stars in every sense of the world. Evoking class and elegance the atmosphere was charming. The view of San Diego was one of kind. We'd talked about going for years but something always got in the way. Finally going it lived up to every expectation. We had the escargot, beef wellington, Duck, a side of truffle fries (which were delicious but we ended up taking home with us), pistachio cheesecake with Marion berry reduction, and a chocolate ganche. While everything was perfection, the cheese cake stole the show. The way the flavors and textures came together was next level. It was a great way to spend our anniversary. We're looking forward to going back!

Exquisite ambiance doesn't even begin to describe the atmosphere and experience. This is a place near and dear to my heart. My dad used to wine & dine my mom here when they met and he used to take us here for family dinners. The views are spectacular, but still eclipsed by the quality of the food. Every morsel was cooked to perfection. The service was my favorite part of all. We were well taken care of and attended to by the kindest gentleman. He really made it a fun experience with his witty banter. Hope to be seated with him again.

We went to Mister A's for an anniversary dinner and it was a wonderful time! The views outside are lovely, and we were so impressed with the professional and friendly service. We enjoyed every dish, with our favorites being the Dubai chocolate baked Alaska, pork belly appetizer, and caviar tater tots. We also got the cheese plate, braised short ribs, lobster mac and cheese, brussels sprouts, and duck breast. While it's definitely not a cheap meal, we both thought that between the consistently tasty dishes, laidback atmosphere, and beautiful view, it was beyond worth it and made our anniversary dinner feel special.

Dinner at Mister A’s was solid all around. We had a table outside with panoramic views—sunset, planes landing, full skyline. One of the best views in San Diego, no question. Started with martinis, then caviar to kick things off. The lamb was cooked perfectly—rich, flavorful, no frills. Mac and cheese was a strong side: creamy, sharp, exactly what it should be. Brought a couple bottles of wine and stayed through sundown, playing cards at the table. Service was sharp, pacing was tight, and nothing felt rushed. Shoutout to owner Ryan—he’s clearly focused on keeping the place grounded in its history while still elevating the experience. You can tell he cares about the legacy.

Had a wonderful dining experience at Mister A’s! The highlight of our evening was undoubtedly the impeccable service provided by Benjamin. He offered excellent recommendations and checked in just the right amount, making our experience smooth and enjoyable. We timed our reservation to catch the sunset, and it did not disappoint. Watching the sky shift colors while airplanes gracefully landed in the distance was such a unique and memorable touch—it truly sets this place apart from others. As for the food, it was beautifully presented and tasted just as good as it looked. While I found some items a touch saltier than my preference, it didn’t take away from the overall quality of the meal. The balance of the menu and freshness of ingredients really shone through. This is the perfect spot for a romantic date night, a celebration, or simply to treat yourself to a fine dining experience with a view. Highly recommend—especially if Benjamin is your server!

From the moment we stepped off the elevator at Mister A's, we were transported into a world of luxury. The waiting area was stunning, with a beautiful bar adorned with roses hanging from the ceiling, setting the perfect ambiance for a special evening. The staff greeted us with warm smiles and exceptional customer service right from the start. Our experience was made even more memorable by the attentive team assigned to us—one person was dedicated to refilling our water, another was always checking in on us, and a third brought our food. It truly felt like they went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, whether it was our first visit or not. The breathtaking view added to the charm of the evening, making it a perfect backdrop for our meal. Speaking of the food, it was simply delicious! Every dish we tried was a delight to the palate. Overall, our experience at Mister A's was nothing short of amazing. I can't recommend this place enough for anyone looking to enjoy a special meal with a view. We’ll definitely be back!

Amazing views, great service, phenomenal food, and believe it or not decently priced for the quality of cooking you’re getting. Highly recommend.

Ill preface with this, I’m a fairly hard grader. I felt the spring menu was a bit underwhelming but the quality of ingredients were still high. I eat sushi weekly and this certainly maintains high standards of fish and quality of all ingredients. The secondary accent ingredients / dishes often shined more than the mains and that was maybe due to the season. The wine and sake pairing was fairly weak and I recommend skipping out unless you really like sake (they say wine and sake but it’s one traditional wine and the rest sake)… The one pairing that seemed best fit was during the nigiri portion of the meal. There was also less notable delicacy type offerings such as no caviar and no uni in this menu, I typically can get mostly the same fish and meat selection for ~$100 less than what the menu comprised of but their service, presentation, and attention to detail helped compromise for it. Overall good experience, but still left a bit to be desired. Staff were nice and service was excellent, personally with the spring menu I felt the experience was close to maybe a single star Michelin equivalent dining.

Located a block away from balboa park so you can walk afterwards. They have a parking garage right below them, same building. They charge $2 per 15 minutes; with a max of $20. Mister As is on the 12 floor. Upon walking it’s the bar to the left or the dining area to the right. We went for lunch and they have jazz music playing until 1 by the bar. The bar had some holiday edition drinks. The waiter sat us by the window which was nice. We ordered shared pastries which came out to be 4 pretty big pastries— i wish we woukd have asked them to heat the pastries up more. We got steak and a burger. The food came out in a timely manner. The steak came with about 4 slices of potatoes and some greens. The burger came with truffle fries which were flavorful. What gave the burger extra flavor was the bacon. The macaroni and cheese was a side. The macaroni looked baked but the inside was gooey. It almost had the consistency of soup. The view is amazing— ask for a window seat. Depending on where you sit you can see Coronado bridge, downtown, or the airport. We told them it was our wedding anniversary but they didn’t do much or acknowledge it. Only the hostess said congratulations 🤷‍♀️

For starters I love a place that enforces a dress code. If you’re a hoodie and shorts guy I’m sure there is a Taco Bell in the area. The service was outstanding. Ben was great! The view is probably the best in SD. We started with cocktails. (Manhattan and Old Fashioned) They were expensive but delicious. I had the duck, my wife had the short ribs. They were both excellent. She also had the gazpacho and it was delicious. My Cesar salad was decent, not great. The only miss was the dessert. The pumpkin pecan cobbler was not good. We would definitely go back.

My son and I had high expectations to go along with the high price tag for an amazing dining experience and it fell well short. Elements were great but as a whole it lacked energy. The sake and wine paring was a bust as the amount of each pour was barely enough for a taste, let alone enjoying the pairing with the food. One and done!

I had my first time experience here as a local on 12/9/25. I went knowing the food was supposed to be excellent, the ambience wonderful, and the service/experience exceptional. I have been wanting to try the restaurant for some time but was left feeling my experience was subpar. Between two of us, we ordered two beef tenderloins with gorgonzola sauce, a salad, bread, side of Brussels sprouts, one beer, and one old fashioned. Our bill was $255 with tax and a 4% service charge. It’s a nice restaurant. Business casual or better is a must. Breakdown of stars (out of 5): - The beef tenderloin - 3/5 stars At $69.50 + $8 for the gorgonzola, that’s all you really get. You do get a small potato side that honestly tastes like a McDonalds hash brown. It was disappointing. - Sage Hill Garden Greens - 4.5/5 stars It was light and refreshing. We both really enjoyed it. - Baked epi baguette - 3/5 Bread is not complementary ($6.50). Ours came out not warm, but hard. We did like the butter and salt combo. The oil/vinegar had roasted garlic, which was a nice touch. - Crispy Brussels sprouts - 4/5 stars Smells amazing, not salty, but certainly oily. The bacon compliments the cider dressing well. - Pure Project citrus blond - 4/5 stars The beer is good, but go across the street to the actual brewery for it. Mark up is $2.50. - Burnt-orange old fashioned - 3/5 stars I asked my waiter for a recommendation between this drink and… wait, he didn’t even let me finish my sentence. He told me that the Mister A’s old fashioned is “the best in San Diego” and that I should “have it their way because I am having the Mister A’s experience” even though I am not the biggest fan of rye. At any rate, we were tired of waiting to order so I said fine. It was not the best, needed to rest with ice for a few minutes, but okay. It is too smokey for my taste. - Ambiance - 5/5 stars They really do have the best views of the city. We ate in the dining area but I very much recommend the patio (weather permitting). - Hosts - 5/5 stars They greet you as you come off the elevator with a smile. - Bussers - 5/5 stars To the lady who had the stunning long braid in a pony tail, you were so sweet to us. When we were so frustrated with our waiter she came up to refill our sparkling water and complemented on how well we looked. She engaged in a friendly conversation and turned our experience around a bit. Thank you!! - Waiter - 1/5 stars We had a guy that had longer hair (three inch pony tail, dark brown hair). When we asked for recommendations based on what we were aiming for he brushed us off saying “everything at Mister A’s is the best we have been around for 60 years.” Okay, that’s not what we asked you. He also was not receptive whatsoever about drink options. We were there at the restaurant for 2.5 hours. We ate and drank for maybe 1-1.25 of that. The rest was us waiting to take our orders and for the bill. I really felt like we were a burden to him yet he spoke in great length to the couple across from us. It absolutely sucked and was a shitty thing to experience on your birthday So, in summary (I know this is long all), is Mister A’s worth it? IDK. As a local, there are many places to go that have quality food and drinks and have exceptional service. Will I try it again? I guess so? I swear I will refuse if it is that waiter again though. I hear their bar area is wonderful, so maybe I’ll pass on the restaurant area and go there next. Will update here if I do!

I dined at this restaurant on the evening of May 31st at 8 PM and ordered the omakase. Unfortunately, I experienced severe vomiting around 3 AM that night. I had not consumed any other food that day, so I strongly suspect the cause was related to the meal. I promptly emailed the restaurant. They responded saying their food “checked out fine,” but offered no meaningful explanation or support regarding my physical reaction. After my follow-up email, I received no further reply, and my review on Google has also been ignored. For a high-end restaurant, this kind of aftercare is extremely disappointing. I am sharing my experience to raise awareness about potential food safety issues and the lack of accountability I encountered. If you care about food quality and responsible service, please think twice.
