Excellent casual Mexican food shop. I had the number one combo (taco, enchilada, rice and beans). My wife had the chicken soup. Both dishes we very very tasty. The red sauce on the enchilada was delicious as were the rice and beans. The taco was perfectly done. You won’t be disappointed here!!
I ordered from Rodrigos for my sons 4th birthday party. They were very helpful with deciding how much and what kind of food to get. The food was incredible and our guests raved about how delicious it was! What really makes this review 5 stars is they called the day of the party and clarified how many people we were having. Whoever I spoke with told me he thought I would probably have too much food and recommended I order some half trays instead of full trays. He was absolutely right and I so appreciated his honesty even when it meant they made less money. You can't buy integrity and great customer service these days which is why Rodrigo's will always be my first choice for my catering needs. Thank you Rodrigo!
So far I've had their carnitas burrito and a large bowl of their spicy chicken soup. Both were delicious and extremely satisfying. The service is also fantastic; both times I've been, staff has been super nice and accommodating. Recommending this place to all my friends!
Small little shop, friendly staff. I'm normally a taco guy, but was feeling something bigger. Got a chimichanga, and was NOT disappointed. The crispy tortilla was perfect, the chicken was tasty and moist, and it was not over or under cheesy. The red sauce was 🔥, highly recommended putting it on everything.
We’ve been eating at Rodrigo’s since the 90’s and to this day, it’s still one of my favorite taco shops. Prices have stayed very good in comparison to other taco shops and the food is still bomb. Bean and cheese burrito with 3 rolled tacos and i’m good for the day lol.
Our favorite place to eat for nearly 20 years. I love their rolled taco combo ---- rice and beans are delicious, and the sauces are so good (the green is amazing)! Friendly service and good food is just down the street from us. Que Bueno!
My family loves this place! Something for everybody. The chicken chimi is awesome, rice and beans and the Carne Asada. My absolute favorite is the chicken soup! It is the best, I go there sometimes just for that soup! The chicken enchiladas could use more red sauce but overall, we love this taco shop.
When I want a carne asada burrito and I’m in San Diego Rodrigos is my Go To Taco Shop. I’ve been coming here faithfully since I was in 8th grade…I’m now 41 and a retired veteran. When I was stationed in Hawaii I was so loyal I’d order 20 burritos while in SD on leave, freeze them and take them back to Hawaii in a cooler!! Great food great service and great prices. And a huge support of my MCHS Sundevils!!
A bit slow on service near closing time. But worth waiting for chicken soup which was great. Prices reasonable.
We were pleasantly surprised. Food was SO GOOD, portions were huge and prices were good. Service was great - friendly and fast. This will be our go-to taco shop from now on!
I am Mexican and love to cook my own food, but if I have to recommend the best Mexican food in San Diego, I always recommend Rodrigos. Alfredo and Jaime are amazing cooks, and are super nice too. They have the best carne asada in town, their Chile relleno plate is delicious, and there is nothing better than their chicken soup on a cold night. It’s not a fine dining atmosphere, but the food and service could not be finer, and the prices can’t be beat.
I LOVE the food!! Best Vibes and you're supporting a small family owned business!! Que Viva Cristo!!
Best Taco Shop in North County San Diego. I've been coming here since 1995 and Rodrigo's never disappoints. Been in the Army 19 years and this is always the first stop when I get off the plane when I'm home on leave. 5 rolled tacos or Carne Asada Burrito with Sour Cream and Cheese are my usual go to items!!
They have been there forever and the quality has always been great. Feels like a family shop and atmosphere is cozy. The burritos are great and they have fair prices for anything on the menu. I recommend the carne asada burrito or the carne fries.
Rodrigo's Taco Shop is our go-to taco shop when we visit family in PQ. Their salsa, especially the spicy on, is delicious and their carnitas are perfect - crispy on the outside and juicy/tender on the inside. Love Love Love this place and owners.
I've been going to this Taco shop over 20 years and it is my absolute favorite place in the world for Mexican food! If you're reading this review stop and go eat here! Even simple things like roll tacos they do the best.
Always good! You must try the amazing chicken soup! 1 order is enough to feed 3 people! We've been there many times since we moved nearby a few months ago. Our family and friends love the food so much that we just hired them to cater a lunch for our church. Can't wait!
I stopped going here after high school and went to a slightly closer taco shop knowing it wasn't as good. After many years I came to my senses and am visiting at least twice a week. This is a real family owned neighborhood taco shop and my life is literally better now that I'm visiting regularly Again. Salsas hot, green and red are both on point. Tortillas are exceptional, everything is great down to the beans. The only way it could be better is if they sold drugs.
San Diego has a lot of great taco shops. Rodrigo's is definitely one of the best. The tacos are so fresh it feels like they just picked the vegetables that morning and used the most fresh fish. The shrimp burritos are also amazing. They use an amazingly tasty sauce in it. I love this place. I happened to go there because my daughters take jiu jitsu a couple of doors down and I feel in love with it.
An Iconic Establishment within Rancho Penasquitos. I've been coming here for decades. They always provide delicious food at reasonable prices and served with a smile. My favorite item is always the carne asada chips. Once in a while, I'll switch it up with fries. Their sauces are on point. Just the right amount of flavor and heat, whether it's green or red. Though I've moved further away from here, I always make it a point to drive here for their delicious eats. There have been many taco shops that have come and gone over the years, I'm glad that Rodrigo's has managed to provide the neighborhood with a place to relax and enjoy a well prepared meal.
Everything we tried was fantastic. Expertly prepared, superb flavors, and generous portions. Friendly service, too. Everyone coming through the door after us ordered the chicken soup! Next time!
Very good food! We had tacos & burrito and we really liked it. Portions are big!

Love their food. Always served hot. Good variety and good service. Owners and staff very pleasant. OrderTake out often..
Absolutely delicious! The night we showed up, there was one guy taking orders and preparing all of the orders. I don't know if this is typical or just a short-staffed night, but the food was well worth the wait. We've had trouble finding good Mexican food with great flavors since moving to the San Diego area, and we're beyond pleased with this find. We will definitely be back!
This has been there since high school years! Food is well priced, tastes great, and owner is always friendly to us! Great Tacos!
This is my favorite burrito shack in San Diego. I always get the California burrito and add guac and pico. Tortillas are an underappreciated part of a great burrito, and the tortillas here are fantastic. I drive out of my way to go here.

not bad, having grown up in san diego, i'm a bit picky when it comes to my "mexican" food. wasn't disappointing when i went there, very decent flavor/spice to everything, and their salsas (hot sauces) were good. second time i went was half hour before closing, we were kind of craving sitting down right after we ate our food, but they said to go only, which isn't an issue, they were tired as well, and wanted to be able to go home at closing, can't blame them. but food was good (boyfriend was actually more impressed).
Good, standard neighborhood taco shop. California burrito slightly unusual, used boiled potatoes instead of fries, and had no sour cream or sauce.
Service was very pleasant, food was good! They have Mexican Dr. Pepper in glass bottles in the drinks cooler - Delicious! I deducted one star because I had asked for a chicken tostada, but it had beans only and no chicken. It was tasty but a bit expensive ($6.50) without the meat on it... I actually ordered several items everything was prepared fresh and everything tasted great!
I like to support small local businesses, this is a decent Mexican food place, chicken soup very flavorful beans and tortillas tasted like they were made from scratch. This isn't a 5 star place it's a mom n pop local hole in the wall the food is hot and fresh and on time when you call ahead.

O how the mighty have fallen. This place used to be the spot but between shrinkflation and the Cali burrito using roasted potatoes instead of French fries... Kinda not the same as it used to. The carne asada was still good and juicy though.
Convenient for our immediate needs. Good portions, very bland on the seasoning. Bathroom could use a good clean and air freshener. We sat under the TV and all we could hear was a show on Ancient Aliens ??? What was THAT all about?
Worst California burrito I’ve ever had. They use breakfast potatoes instead of fries & fill the inside with sour cream even if you ask for none. Their Aguas are from a Machine, not home made.

This is a small taco shop, with a regular menu and average prices. I got the cheese enchilada combo...the enchiladas are okay, but the beans and rice aren't that great. The rice was on the uncooked side and had no flavor, and the beans were very liquidy, making it hard to eat. However, the mild salsa is pretty good, but that alone isn't enough for a revisit.
Just picked up a California burrito. The only ingredients in the tortilla were meat, cheese, and potato. Not french fries, regular potatoes, which are a terrible substitute. There was no salsa fresca, no guacamole. It was also smaller than most burritos. 2 stars for the properly cooked meat. This was a big let down as it is supposed to be the good Mexican food place near me. Also the service was slow and unorganized. Not a great deal for a $6+ burrito.
I've always been disappointed with the taco shops around the PQ/ Carmel mountain area. And this is one the places that didn't satisfy. It's a small corner taco shop in a plaza and it was my first time trying this place out. My typical go-to is a carne asada burrito. After tax it's about $7 and some change. I judge a taco shop on how well they put together a staple of San Diego; carne asada burrito. First thought was, geez, I just placed an order and my burrito was ready within 3 mins. Not a good sign since I've had similar experiences at other places that make that quick burrito. Second is that the carne asada burrito was hefty; always a good sign since you know that they packed it with meat. Third, is the first couple bites and Rodrigo's didn't satisfy. Just like my other experiences at those other taco shops around the area with cooks making a burrito quick and not even grilling the meat. It's like they keep the meat in a tin and just heat the tortilla and put the meat on it along with the other ingredients. Those first couple bites you can tell, the meat is very dry and tough. The tortilla was super chewy. A real disappointment and sad that lots of the taco shops in the PQ/ Carmel Mountain area just looking for a quick buck on expensive burritos. I did like how the restaurant is clean, the cashier was friendly, and the delicious salsa bar. The salsa verde is probably one of the best I've tried with a nice vinegary green chili flavor. A solid 2 stars and it will be hard to come back here since they close early and a bad first experience.
The food didn't taste too bad but minutes after eating it didn't agree with my stomach...although the service was nice I won't be visiting there again.
Ordered carne asada fries. Really poor quality carne asada. Not tasty at all, terrible texture and no flavor.

Going here for over 20 years. Bean toastada is one of my favorites. I just got one with almost no beans...more water than beans and the tortilla tasted like it had gone bad, never had a toastada like that anywhere. I couldn't finish it, thinking about deleting positive raving reviews I left on other accounts. I'm not disappointed I'm offended. I'm thinking of throwing away the other items I ordered. Super bummed. What I just ate belonged in the trash. The taste in my mouth is heart breaking
Rodrigo must have given up on his dream to make great Carne Asada burritos. Paid $15 for Carne Jerky Burrito. Just because the burrito drips with juice doesn't mean the meat is moist. Literally Jerky. What a disapointment..... paying that kind of money for a skinny Jerky burrito will guarantee I never come back. Buy the good flap meat Rodrigo, try to remember when you first started your buisness and had a dream to make the best dam Mexican food possible.
I don't get these reviews. This place is not good. New on this side of town, normal go-to spot was Chili Peppers in Scripps Ranch. This was worse than taco bell. Ordered a California Burrito, it was small, it was all chunks of fried potatoes, no french fries, couldn't even find meat in the burrito. Maybe everyone in PQ doesn't know mexican food, or maybe they just aren't used to high quality mexican food. I'll make the drive across town to Chili Peppers.
The worst California burrito, no flavor. The meat horrible.
Ordered a Buritto & I kept noticing that something tasted off about it, I thought I was maybe trippin until my friend tried it too and we both realized that the cheese was rotten. I notified the worker who didn’t care at all. I don’t recommend this place to anyone, over or undercooking peoples food is understandable it happens but straight up serving rotten food is just negligence 🤮🤢
Honestly my camera is so good it makes this plate 100 times better better than it tastes. Meat is so old hard. Beans taste nasty, worse than canned ones. Dont go here if there is any other option. Save yourself and your money. There is no soap in the bathroom which looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a while.

Very greasey california burrito. Per the cashier the cali came with meat, fries, rice, and chesse. I never found a spec of rice. Worst cali burrito I have ever had. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Terrible service! Placed an online order here arrived before closing and the just canceled my order while I was standing in front of the door.
Bland food and more! If you want to be charged different prices than what's posted, this is your place...if you want a surprise 3% credit card fee, this is your place...and if you want burritos with tons of grease dripping out...c'mon down!! To top it off, tasteless food (rice, beans, etc) with no real flavor. Seriously, this was awful Mexican food...Chipotle is better and that isn't saying much...
First one in line, last one to recieve their food. Incredibly slow service. California burrito was the size of a glorified taquito. Anywhere else in the shopping plaza will be better to eat at.
I’ve driven here twice during normal operating hours (11am on a Tuesday and 3pm on a wednesday) and it’s just randomly closed. Ugh!
Call in to make an order. Totally told me different prices then when I got there. Burrito was so oily that it rip the paper it was wrap in. Burrito wasn't even wrapped properly it made a mess to eat. Plus didn't have any napkins. Sauce was bad don't recommend.
