We celebrated a friend’s birthday here, and it was exactly the kind of Saturday night you hope for—great energy, a perfect round table for our group of ladies, and an atmosphere that felt lively without being chaotic. The menu hit all my authentic Italian favorites. The carpaccio di manzo was fresh, the lobster ravioli came with a sauce so good I’m still thinking about it, and the absolute standout of the night was the rack of lamb—perfectly seasoned, tender, and YUM. The service was fantastic! Every server who came by was warm, fun, and clearly cared that we were having a great time. It made the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable from start to finish. Our drinks flowed effortlessly from Prosecco, to red wine, and, naturally, we wrapped things up with an espresso martini because the night was far from over. A solid five stars from me—excellent food, great atmosphere, I’d come back in a heartbeat.
My girlfriend and I went here after a Yelp event at the Museum of illusion. We were happily surprised at how cute this restaurant was, it had such a nice authentic Italian ambience. Also our servers was super tentative and very nice. I ordered the lobster ravioli and my friend ordered one of the spaghetti pasta dishes. The food was also wonderful. Definitely a great spot if your looking for Italian food in gaslamp.
Incredible experience. Authentic food, wine and desserts. The customer service was impeccable and the atmosphere took us back to our vacation in Rome! The decor was phenomenal. You feel as if you are in Italy and the flavors of the food paired with wine is an experience. Roberto was our server and he was a five star! Grazie Roberto!
We had a wonderful experience with the atmosphere and food. Our server Marcello was very professional and attentive and made the best recommendations for us. We greatly appreciate the service and will be back.
Food was very good! Atmosphere was great! Our server was Maria was excellent and we enjoyed our time here. The tiramisu was delicious and the pasta pepe was so creamy!
Being Locals, it’s nice when you’re treated with kindness and respect! This place is great! Food is tasty…I love the Carpacio! The Calamari was excellent and the Pizza Davola was cooked to perfection! Even better, the service! Calogero (aka Charlie) was so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He was very attentive and friendly!!! Ashley makes the best Aperol Spritz!!! Thank you so much!!!
One of the best Italian meals I’ve ever had! The pasta was perfectly seasoned, and the mushrooms inside were incredibly juicy and flavorful. The pizza was crispy and delicious, with everything seasoned just right, full of rich, balanced flavors. Our server, Alec, was super friendly and made sure we had an amazing dining experience. Overall, it turned into one of my favorite dining experiences ever. Highly recommend! 🍝🍕✨
My husband and I had dinner at Romanissimo and absolutely loved it! Our server, Maria, was a breath of fresh air — so friendly and enthusiastic, offering great recommendations from the menu that turned out to be just as delicious as she promised. We enjoyed it so much we went back again, and this time our server, Marcelo, was equally wonderful. The food was outstanding, the wine was delicious, and the service both times was truly magnificent.
In town for a short stay and the hotel concierge recommended this place. The restaurant was conveniently located nest our hotel and the ambiance was fabulous. Greeted immediately at the door and seated with no wait . Alec, our server was attentive, and knowledgeable about the choices and recommendations. Food was amazing and the dinner was topped off with a complimentary dessert ( it was my birthday). Whenever you are in the downtown San Diego area ( GasLamp), please visit Romanissimo. You won’t regret it!

This is such a good establishment, from the food to the atmosphere, to hospitality. Everything was amazing, my friend recommended we go here and it was wonderful. We’re very happy. The food was delicious! The atmosphere, the servers everything was so lovely. We will be back!

We wanted to try something new for dinner spot while in the Gaslamp district. Found this spot and it was great. Fabio our water was courteous and gave us great food recommendations. I had the lobster ravioli and my husband had the meat lasagna. Portions were just right. Highly recommend. Will come back again when in area.

Absolutely phenomenal! We started our night elsewhere and was severely disappointed before we came here. I've never left a more raving 5 star review for food before. We have talked about coming back to SD just for this place even, it's that good. The appetizer with honey, whipped ricotta, pear, and bruschetta was absolutely phenomenal to say the least. Oysters for her were incredible where she isn't sure she has ever had such quality before. Now for entrees, where we did the lasagna and the Pappardelle. I cannot speak highly enough about either of these dishes, seriously. Alec was our server, whom knocked it so far out of the park with his knowledgeable service, genuine kindness and professionalism that I couldn't fault a single thing if I tried. I've NEVER been more sure of someone embodying the heart of what service should be. Truly, thank you to everyone involved in making this such a memorable experience. Then, to top it off with a tiramisu that floored me, where I am a bit of a snob (I admit) - Further cannot speak highly enough. Thank you for helping me turn around my partners birthday and our entire night with such a blissful memory. We will be back, without a doubt.
Lovely little Italian restaurant with dishes that feel very authentic! I got the cheese wheel pasta and was thrilled when they came and mixed it up next to the table in a giant cheesewheel before plating it. It was creamy and so tasty. My husband got the salmon and enjoyed it as well. Shoutout to Fabio, our server! Very friendly and I think he is just as authentic Italian as the pasta 😉
The food was delicious and we definitely would come back. Ordered the meatball appetizer and carbonara. Excellent. The pizza bread with olive tapenade was fantastic. But the highlight was our server. Fabio was amazing and made awesome recommendations!! Well definitely be back!!
Mateo, our server was so friendly! Food was excellent. Loved the cheese wheel pasta. Service was very quick! Highly recommend.
Delicious food, excellent service (very nice waiter gave us free tiramisu), very Roman atmosphere.
Looking forward to going back. I’ve never had more delicious food. And the service was - let’s say more than pleasant - Ashley the bartender was present and professional. Matteo, the bartender and Maria were an added bonus. They all took care of me and made me feel like familia. Enjoy your experience!
In the Gaslamp area there's no shortage of good restaurants. But one has to choose whichever you personally would prefer. For me I look for the special parts of the menu where I normally do not have every day. Today was the cheese wheel pasta. This is a rich dish where you can share and have room for dessert. The pasta and oxtail meatballs is super comfort food that you can only experience. The service was perfect where your server doesn't need to keep checking on you. If you need your server, if the host sees you they will not hesitate to come by. The decor felt very Italian and you can feel and hear every one having a great time. Great food can do this when done right. And this they do.

The food was absolute amazing! We got the truffle pasta in a cheese wheel! Man such a fun experience as well to watch! Fabio was amazing as our host helped us so quickly! Appreciate fine Italian cuisine right in the heart of gas lamp love the people watching from the balcony area!

Food was delicious. We got the traditional carbonara (which is hard to find at most restaurants) and the beef short rib lasagna. We both got a glass of wine, and although the moscato wasn’t my favorite, they did an incredible job and switched it out for a Chardonnay. We finished off our dinner with a shot of limoncello which was thick and smooth. Thank you Francisco and team for incredible service.
Place feels a bit “lounge-y”. The paperdelle bolognese were good, but the oxtail risotto was mid. The risotto was not a risotto, but just some dry yellow rice… Overall still decent taste, but not great
The setup with inside and outside seating is great especially after 6pm. The floors were unusually slippery, be forewarned. Our servers were very good Ask for their bread the door, it was so fresh, light, with just enough crunch for the virgin olive oil. The cheese bowl pasta (w/chicken) was amazing! Not too parm salty, noodles al dente, sauces were just creamy perfection.🤌🏾 Ceasar salad was almost as good as in Mexico. The entrée that stole the show was the oxtail & risotto... I'll drive another 100 miles for that, 2 pieces wasn't enough it was so good. The oxtail meatball dish was ok, the other meats dominated the flavor although you could tell it was different, pasta was good. Overall a solid choice for Italian food.

The restaurant itself was so cute! I loved the decor for Valentine’s Day! However, you can tell they wanted to fill it up as much possible. It was very cramped and the small table did not have enough room for two people to dine. We were all cramped inside like a bunch of sardines haha, it was crowded but also kinda impressive how they made it work. Nonetheless, I give it 4 stars because for the price there are other Italian restaurants in the area that I’d recommend with more delicious food at this price. And no, the portions are not big like other people stated. It’s pretty small for the price
Unfortunately our experience was not that great. We just started our appetizers, next minute our entrees arrived. By the time we finished appetizers, entrees were already cold. The entire service felt rushed and overwhelming. Pasta, salmon, broccolini were overcooked, heavily sauced. Average quality of ingredients with average flavors.
We wanted to try something new near our hotel and found this restaurant that was only a 5 minute walk. The walk was nice but there are many bars nearby on the walk over so there was a lot of smoke. We joined the Yelp waitlist before walking so we did not have to wait for a table. As we brought our dog, we chose to sit outside on their patio. The patio is set up very nicely with lights and there is a heater light above the table so you don't feel cold at all. The vibes were nice, just a bit loud with some cars honking. The host was friendly and brought us to our table. We took a while to look over the menu since the options looked like a very formal dining with appetizers and entres. We eventually went with the eggplant appetizer to share and for the entres, we got the lampchops, grilled codfish, and lasagna. In the meantime we only got water to drink but the warm water we asked for took forever to be served. We also got some bread which was just alright. Later on they asked if we wanted more but it was an extra charge to refill. Our order took around 30 minutes or more to be served and the waiters didn't check on our tables that often- maybe because we didn't order that much and shared some of the dishes. The appetizer took a while to be served once we ordered and it was not bad, maybe because I am not a big fan of cheese. When the food came, they came all at once which was good. They were all plated nicely but the portion is just enough for probably one person to eat or at most two. The lampchops were seasoned pretty well but it was only two pieces and be warned that it isn't fully cooked if you are sensitive about that. The codfish was pretty good though- it was grilled crispy on the outside but not dry inside. The lasagna was not bad as well and the beef inside was seasoned well. Everything tasted authentic overall. Once done, we were given the dessert menu and we were full from the meal and a previous late lunch so we only ordered one tiramisu. They served this to us fast though. The tiramisu was also plated nicely and it was very good. It tasted better than the other tiramisu I have tried at other bakerys since it tasted more authentic. Overall, this place seems like an authentic Italian restuarant. It was more formal than I expected since Google said it was casual dining but the vibes were more formal. The food was not bad too but on the pricey end but I guess this is typical for an Italian place these days. The service was alright as the waiters came by slow to the patio and food was served a bit slow too. The waiter also stood by when we had the check so they could see the tip percentage. But I think this is a decent Italian spot to try in San Diego.

I had a pretty mixed experience at Romanissimo Cucina Italiana in downtown San Diego. The food itself was decent, lobster ravioli ($40)was good, but overall the visit didn’t really justify the high prices. Service was noticeably slow throughout the meal, and the experience felt a bit disorganized from start to finish. Our busser was great and she was better than our actual server. One thing that stood out was that they don’t box up your leftovers, which felt unusual for a restaurant at this price point, for appetizers, drinks, and entree it was $70 per person and we didn’t get dessert which was $19 for the tiramisu. Also, when I asked for a latte, the server said they could only make a cappuccino — even though they clearly had multiple cup sizes available — which came across as unnecessarily inflexible. On top of that, the atmosphere felt strangely uncomfortable and hard to place. The vibe just felt off, which made it difficult to relax and enjoy the evening. When I asked for a larger table they did not allow that. So when the table next to us left, we put our appetizers on the empty table next to us. And people just stared at us for reaching over the next table as our table was very small with all the entrees on it. It would have been nice if the server just added that table to our table so we had more space. But she didn’t. Not a terrible meal, but for the cost and the overall experience, and the high ratings on Google, I expected much better service than what we received. I will not go back. I’ve had better food and service at other Italian restaurants in South Park, little Italy and La jolla.
Very loud, but food was great! Server judges us, a young couple. Waitress was very short and rude to us. We felt rushed, and did not feed welcome at all. We didn’t order alcohol either.
